Welcome Westward Sub-stories
Aka things I plan to write because if I don't list them out now I will forget
In no particular order:
Silverado Novelization
Post-Silverado recovery fic, or as I like to call it, The Trials and Tribulations of Tyree Ekker
Rawhide but with Emmett and Jake as part of the crew
Wanted: Dead or Alive but Ronnie, Gio, and Joey show up sometimes
The 1960 Mag 7 except it's not 7 and may or may not include Harmonica [no relation to Gio]
The 1998 Mag 7 except Bobby is the sheriff of Four Corners and Book and Josiah are the same person now
A Fistful of Dollars novelization but with my version of Joey
Silverado sequel but scenes are just stolen from Once Upon a Time in the West and characters are just stolen from The Quick and the Dead
Supernatural Winchester drama but Adam's the abandoned one this time
The 2016 Mag 7 except no one dies
Two Mules for Sister Sara except Dominique is somehow involved and oh shit Dominique is involved
Six of Crows but make it Wild West San Francisco
Blood feud between the Yates and someone else
Hell's Coming With Me except it's a prequel to the 1998 Mag 7
Rustlers' Rhapsody except Rex gets therapy
Aury and Luke Start-Shit-Get-Hit shenanigans
Sebastian-Abby romance but this time he's not an Illuminati assassin and she's not a witch
Elias blowing shit up
Quigley Down Under but actually Quigley Up Above
The Maverick Family Reunion [and a very baffled Ezra]
Hang 'Em High but Joey pops out of the goddamn woodwork
High Plains Drifter but Outlaw Josey Wales [aka Jim Yates: A Revenge Story]
Simon Morgan Victorian Medical Drama
Bobby-Elena romance but he's the sheriff and also her brother's a wanted felon
Basil-Dani romance but with less cosmic horror and dreaming of elder gods

Okay so
I originally had the Silverado hyperfixation in April of 2023, and phased out of it later that month for a different special interest, but in January someone pointed out that Silverado was on Netflix and then the whole project just...spiralled out of control.
[Anyone who sees this can go to my main blog [skylarynn-grey] and see the absolute deluge of various western media]
Anyways, the original Silverado project was going to encompass the plot of Silverado, and then a sequel with story elements from Once Upon a Time in the West and characters from The Quick and the Dead, with a sprinkling of characters from other westerns I like for flavor, but it is so much bigger than that now.
I will probably be making a master post for links to the various rants and such I will be writing. [There's so many characters]

The Rattlesnake Rant
Aka why this blog is named what it is
So in Silverado, we see a lot of gunfighting, and each of the four main protagonists has a different style - Jake dual wields his shiny nickel-plated pistols and Mal likes to snipe with his Henry rifle, for example.
However, each character also has their own moral code, and today we’re discussing Jake’s.
There was a concept in the old west known as the “Rattlesnake Code”, stating that a true cowboy ‘never shot an unarmed or unwarned enemy’, also known as ‘always warn before you strike’. As we watch Silverado, we see that Jake very strictly adheres to this code; in his introductory scene, where he explains how he got into jail, he mentions that he only started shooting at the men he injured and killed respectively after they tried to shoot him in the back [unwarned]. [Also this is actually a whole big thing about Jake almost getting shot in the back that I’ll cover later]. Jake, by contrast, always fights in instances of self-defense/all-out gunfights [like in Turley or at McKendrick’s ranch], and he always ensures his opponents are warned. He makes a point of it.
At McKendrick’s ranch, he first takes out Scruffy by swinging down from the rafters and kicking him, but Jake does so with a loud whoop that alerts Scruffy to his presence before he knocks him to the hay.
Right after this, Jake times the dropping of a bag of sand to warn two opponents he’s snuck up behind, so they turn around before he shoots them.
Most obviously, during his final showdown in the film, Jake shouts “Hey!” before shooting Tyree and Deputy Kyle, giving them time to turn so he doesn’t shoot them in the back.
Jake holds to the Rattlesnake Code.
