You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

i've seen some posts floating around about people being confused as to what classifies as robotfucking and to what degree so i decided to take a crack at it and made this chart inspired by the infamous furry chart

If a worker who isn't the owner says ANYTHING similar to "I'm not really supposed to do this but-" and then does something that helps you, under no circumstances inform the business, including through reviews. You tell them that the worker was polite, professional, the very model of customer service and why you like to go there. You do not breathe a word of the rulebreaking.

Idea. Villain x hero (enemies to lovers, naturally) where the villain gets amnesia of some variety and the hero takes care of them. The villain eventually gets their memories back but instead of "aha actually I'm evil again and hate you" it's a bittersweet moment where the hero comes home, sees the villain frozen stuff and staring at them, crying and just whispers, "how could I have ever hurt you". Antihero mayhaps

So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????

I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.

Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

I wanna join the "disabled people who make art" anecdotes. I have epilepsy and EDS. My joints suck and when I'm in pain, I'm stressed out which triggers the seizures. I'm a digital artist. I use my phone because it allows me to adjust frequently but I used to be forced to sit at a computer for hours. Which, at that age, was fine. If I tried to do that now? It would make my bad joints Even Worse during my bad days. I draw through my bad days because of a silly phone app. It provides a distraction despite the fact that I will probably have 3-6 absence seizures over the course of the day. I do not use AI. I also write! Both of the "either learn how to adjust yourself frequently or be stuck in the same position" problems. Fuck AI. Genuinely. Fuck. AI. I'm disabled and don't need (or want!) to steal art from other artists, some of which might also be disabled like I am or even worse!!
