so i adore lost media, mostly because a lot of internet media i grew up with is now lost. i wanted to compile my own personal cases of lost media here in the hopes that someone else remembers them. maybe some of them could be found who knows :0
prepare yourselves for a loooooong post:
hoops and yoyo/hallmark ecards
ive discussed this one a lot, but a lot of hoops and yoyo media and ecards from hallmark are lost. a lot of the interactive ones are missing because hallmark took them down sometime in the early 2010s. ive gone on the wayback machine and took note of old ecards i remember watching, but i cannot access the videos. some are available on a flash player, i think the blue maximus flash player?, so some have been found. but there's still a lot missing.
pokemon figure adventures videos
back in the day, i loved watching plush/figure videos, most of which were just kids goofing around with a camera and their toys. when i first got into pokemon, i remember watching a channel featuring "episodes" of a kid playing with his pokemon figures. some of the episodes i remember included one pokemon hypnotizing another and another video where togepi goes wandering into the woods and meets a charizard (or another big pokemon). pokemon that were used often included abra, gligar, sandshrew, and aipom. i remember the beginning of the hypnotizing video starting with the pokemon talking to himself before turning to the camera and saying something along the lines of "greetings pokemon fans."
this one very well could be buried under hundreds of other similar videos but i honestly think it may have been deleted long ago.
beanie babies movie part 1 of 6
another toy video (and there will be more) was a beanie baby "movie" that was split into 6 parts. i don't remember the plot of the movie, only the first part and the first scene. it involved a goose beanie at a milk bar drunk on milk i believe. the bartender says "sir you're going to have to pay your tab now." the goose refuses and asks for another glass, to which the dog bartender says something about the goose being lactose intolerant. that's all i remember from it unfortunately.
missing strawberry516 videos
strawberry516 was a pretty big webkinz youtuber back in the day, or at least i thought so. she uploaded a video called "webkinz go to the doctor" which got over 1 million views. i actually remember it being one of the top search results for webkinz videos. she has since deleted her channel and with it dozens of videos.
monkeybartv
switching away from youtube, this is a lost hasbro website i remember visiting back in the day. if i remember correctly, hasbro's more popular brands (littlest pet shops, my little pony, etc) had their own websites, so i think this was for the less popular brands. i remember idog and maybe gi joe had games and videos? i remember one game was some sort of sound maker maybe? i distinctly remember something involving mustard with that game, but i don't remember what brand it was for. i barely see anyone talk about this, so if anyone else remembers it, let me know!
ill probably make a part 2 to this, because this only scratches the surface! let me know if you remember any of these or if you know where to find some of these!
check out what i found at the thrift store yesterday!
i already own the one donut a day cd but it's getting pretty old and i lost the case years ago. this one had the insert and the cd's in great condition. plus you never see hoops and yoyo stuff at thrift stores so i just had to get it
bro, these little guys were my childhood! im still a fan of them today since there’s a lot of lost media surrounding them and hallmark ecards. i had these plushies too and they were a highlight of my 4th christmas. i still have yoyo but my dog got to hoops :(
welcome to another episode of silver's merch mysteries!
remember those zoobles plush posts i made a few months ago? well i think i might turn it into a series on here, where i will post about obscure/unreleased merch that interests me.
today we have the mystery of the spacy brothers tamagotchi friends figure.
tamagotchi friends was a very short lived figure line for the very short lived tamagotchi friends release in the us. they were released in 2014 and only at toys r us. some figures came in playsets, some in single packs, and there was one(?) pack that had 5 characters in it. some characters are harder to find now than others, yumecantchi being the rarest in my opinion since i rarely see her go up for sale.
i loved this figure line and i got into the tamagotchi anime on the tail end of this release, meaning a lot of these figures were now super cheap because the line flopped in america. but one thing that i always thought was weird were the choices of characters they made figures of. main characters like memetchi and kuchipatchi didn't receive figures yet characters like harptchi got figures? very strange.
however, a while ago, i stumbled upon this image:
originally posted by tumblr user ashkeilolita in 2015, this image shows the collectors guide packaged with every tamagotchi friends release, with a few differences: kuchipatchi and spacytchi, two characters that did not receive figures, have figures shown on this guide. spacytchi replaces the character juilietchi and kuchipatchi replaces yumecantchi.
as i said before, this line did not do well in america and was forgotten about pretty quickly. so my first thought was "well, since this didn't do well, these are probably prototypes that were never released."
but do you see the set below spacytchi? the "dream school classmates" set?
that was released.
here's an ebay listing from last year that hasn't sold. and there's another on ebay from this year that also hasn't sold. (probably because they're both over 80 bucks....)
so if these released, what about kuchipatchi and spacytchi? i have yet to see any photos of spacytchi or kuchipatchi online. it could be possible that they released but have little to no documentation online.
while making this post, i also thought that it may be possible that this set released because they are just variants of already existing figures with different faces. (julietchi and himespetchi are the exact same figures). i also noticed that i have never seen the single pack for mametchi online anywhere, so that leads me to believe only this set was released.
and again while making this post i went back to the original post from ashkeilolita, and i found a comment from user auronsgirl saying the following:
Someone asked about these figures on the Tamagotchi Friends FB page.
And they said they were figures they were planning on releasing but no stores wanted to pick them up to sell them. So they won’t be getting made and sold at all now.
so... i guess that solves that mystery :(.
BUT, maybe there are unreleased figures out there? kuchipatchi has plenty of figures, but spacytchi only has one (a rare gashapon) and his brothers don't have any. it sucks these didn't end up releasing, but i can kinda see why. i would rather tamagotchi made new characters like these rather than rereleases but oh well.
what did yall think? i wanna do more of these so let me know if you have any ideas for things i should look into!
so despite hoops and yoyo being e-card characters, their knowledge of technology is very limited. they both still use flip phones, use :-) when emailing, send each other advice animal memes in the workplace, and have no knowledge of current technology. piddles does however and uses tiktok. she's trying to get the two accustomed to more modern tech, but yoyo isn't sure where the keyboard is on her iphone 14.
their knowledge of internet slang is also pretty limited. hoops likes to use "LOL" but that's about it. if you asked either of them what "drip" or "lowkey" meant, they'd have no idea what you're talking about. basically their internet slang dictionary goes until about 2012.
puck is a twitch streamer. i don't know why, it just fits. he's not that popular though.
