Shadowheart, unblinking, staring at Tav across the campfire because everyone knows they snuck off with Astarion after the tiefling party last night: does fucking a vampire count as necrophilia?
Everyone: *freezes*
Gale: *drops his big spoon into the breakfast pot, spattering some on Lae’zel*
Wyll: *startled coughing fit*
Halsin: *genuinely considering the question*
Karlach: *whispering to Wyll* what is necrophilia? does that mean, like, a thing about necks, or, what…?
Tav: I…I think I need to go lie down.
Astarion, returning from his morning hunt a few moments later, emerging from the woods and taking in the strained camp-mosphere: why is everyone being weird? who died?
Lae’zel, still angrily cleaning herself off: you
Gale: *drops his spoon again, seconds after successfully fishing it out the first time*

enough reclaiming slurs, I think in 2023 we should reclaim nascar. they banned the confederate flag on all properties & their stance on lgbtq+ isn’t just performative bc in 2013 they fined a driver 10k for using a homophobic slur, condemned indiana in a statement for an anti lgbt law, and partnered w carolina’s lgbt+ chamber of conference in 2022. nascar was founded by anti-cop moonshiners/bootleggers who drove suped-up fords to out-run the police. #yaaascar

So, I have been musing about how Lorroakan mocked Gale for losing his status as Mystra's chosen and I just can't ignore that there is high possibility of Gale being judged or looked down by his peers even when he returns after saving baldurs gate to becomes a professor.
He had a great fall from grace and even though he was able to earn back Mystra's forgiveness, He wasn't really the same as he was in his prime and he now lacks Mystra's buffs that he had when he was chosen.
After everything though, Gale might not be a wizard as powerful as he before but he now is a better wizard.
Gale doesn't rely on his most powerful spells to fix everything.
He thinks on his feet. Rather than using a spell slot to defend himself from an attacker that got too close.
Gale just throat punches the attacker

Do you happen to know the origin of the fantasy trope in which a deity's power directly corresponds to the number of their believers / the strength of their believers' faith?
I only know it from places like Discworld and DnD that I'm fairly confident are referencing some earlier source, but outside of Tinkerbell in Peter Pan, I can't think of of any specific work it might've come from, 20th-c fantasy really not being my wheelhouse.
Thank you!
That's an interesting question. In terms of immediate sources, I suspect, but cannot prove, that the trope's early appearances in both Dungeons & Dragons and Discworld are most immediately influenced by the oeuvre of Harlan Ellison – his best-known work on the topic, the short story collection Deathbird Stories, was published in 1975, which places it very slightly into the post-D&D era, though most of the stories it contains were published individually earlier – but Ellison certainly isn't the trope's originator. L Sprague de Camp and Fritz Leiber also play with the idea in various forms, as does Roger Zelazny, though only Zelazny's earliest work is properly pre-D&D.
Hm. Off the top of my head, the earliest piece of fantasy fiction I can think of that makes substantial use of the trope in its recognisably modern form is A E van Vogt's The Book of Ptath; it was first serialised in 1943, though no collected edition was published until 1947. I'm confident that someone who's more versed in early 20th Century speculative fiction than I am could push it back even earlier, though. Maybe one of this blog's better-read followers will chime in!
(Non-experts are welcome to offer examples as well, of course, but please double-check the publication date and make sure the work you have in mind was actually published prior to 1974.)

My special princess Cyrus, a Black Sea kraina koldun I’m playing in a Constantinople game 💙
[ID: A half-body digital sketch of Cyrus, a man in his 20s with light brown skin and mid-length curly black hair. He has bright blue eyes and faded scars across his nose and lip. Cyrus wears a blue tunic with a darker cloak atop it, which is patterned with gold diamond shapes. He wears golden jewelry adorned with pearls, and behind him is an abstract background mimicking the sea.]

Literally went from:
“Why would I ever trust the word of an Oathbreaker?”
“It’s unwise to trust a bloody Sharran”
To:
“Why hello, Lover, that sounded more debonaire in my head, I admit”
“I am yours, my Heart”
.
.
.
.
Aaaand I’m finally in Act 3 (fucking finally) with my Oathbreaker Paladin Durge run. I can only wish I’m talented enough of a writer to write a fic for these two I swear-

It's funny because in history forums there's a meme (which I have adopted in reverse) that Nothing Ever Happens In South America because first world historians and history buffs simply don't care about South America, so for Paradox devs there might as well been a Empire of Paraguay between 1939 and 1944 or so and they just have forgotten about it.

it frustrates me to see people saying modern Gale would be an AI bro. Modern Gale would hate AI because there is no soul in it, no creativity; it is attempting to 'solve' art with math and he would find that stifling and depressing.
GORTASH IS THE AI BRO stop robbing him of his title. He would be blackmailing people with ai-cloned voices and likenesses, living his best life.

So, we all love Gale’s mirror image/simulacrum, and how the ‘certain measure of Gale’s personality’ that he retains is Gale’s sweet, dorky charm…but is Gale himself aware of this?
I don’t believe we ever see Gale actually interact with his mirror image, as it always appears as a replacement when Gale is elsewhere.
It’s possible Gale has always just assumed he’s created this 100% straightforward, serious mirror image who radiates scholarly intelligence…because surely, that’s the aspect of his personality that it would pull from, right?
Imagine if one night, after Gale and Tav are married and living in Waterdeep, they start reminiscing about their romance. Tav brings up their first night together, and mentions how surprised they were to see Gale’s mirror image standing in his place at camp.
Gale is pleased, and says with a gentle laugh that he hopes Tav wasn’t too intimidated by his simulacrum’s stoic nature.
To which Tav responds oh no, not at all! They loved how adorable he was, and they still remember the cute pose he did to represent Gale’s personality!
Gale (perplexed): …darling, whatever do you mean? What pose…?
Cue Tav, perfectly miming this:
