Kinda my own interpretation so sorry if it seems incorrect by any sort but anyways
Y'know what I've been thinking about for now? How of all the characters interactions with her, kyo actually had the most equal and balanced ones with tohru- they mutually help each other, while with others, the help comes mostly from tohru's side.
There are cases where the zodiacs talk and sigh about what a great person tohru is, and is the shoulder for them to cry.
and how she never asks for anything in return or for help(either cuz she doesn't want to burden them, or they just don't notice), and are sad when they can't do anything for her. Or they lash out in anger at a person who hurts her (uo&Hana towards the fangirls, Rin towards kagura, Yuki towards tohru's relative), however,(except for uo) they didn't go towards tohru herself.-they just talk from the distance, but they don't act (no act of comfort towards tohru in her harsh situation, but more of anger towards what made her have an issue), they simply express concern and all.... While kyo....
Kyo though? After tohru listened to his problems,accepted him and loves him, he recognizes her pain, tells her it's ok to stand for her own and "be more selfish",felt guilt about hurting her ,was the only one to notice when she isn't her usual self , ,and listened to her when she was upset about her mom and dad, hugging her- with a blanket but still offering her the comfort she needed. Also was tortured facing his biggest issues,like his "dad" to overcome his guilt,love himself and become the person he believes she deserves.
Actions speak louder than words. And there's a lot more power put into actions of comforting the victim than acts of revenge.
Also: notice how haru and momiji talked about kisa's bullying, or the mabudachi's thoughts of Yuki's suffering of mental abuse(with ayame coming to visit after akito came to their school), but none gave a shit about what kyo went through bc he's the cat, they all had each other-and tohru as their shoulder to cry. but kyo only had tohru.
