Ryūzō, for the longest of times, has put his feelings, both on romance and sexual attraction, on the back wheel. It's not that he isn't interested in meeting or marrying someone. It's just that he doesn't know if he is fully ready for the new chapter in his life of marriage or being with someone. He's imagined it, but only sporadically. Takumi teases him that he is going to die alone at this rate. Ryūzō doesn't pay that much attention... sometimes.

In the slight chance he does get a crush, Ryūzō is a perfect gentleman about it. If he spots his crush in the school hallway or street, he'll purposely walk in their direction to greet them despite having to go a different direction. He'll carry textbooks or bags for them without a complaint, making a lot of the other females on campus (both teachers and students) swoon. And in between class time, he'd make his crush some tea or coffee for them to drink whilst grading papers. He'd also, surprisingly, smile more in her presence.

This behavior, unfortunately, wouldn't go unnoticed by some of the other students. Some students, those with a death wish, would tease the Languages professor, and he'd respond by giving them extra homework.

Takumi, unlike Ryūzō, is very upfront when it comes to liking someone. However, unlike the stoic and good-looking Languages professor, Takumi is absolutely horrendous when it comes to anything romantic. He'd like women to see that beneath all his muscles and warring instincts, lays a poet's soul and a deep sensitivity. The problem is that beneath all his muscles and warring instincts… there's actually not much else in that over-muscled size body of his.

However, it's not for lack of trying. And Takumi does try. Boy, does he try! However, as stated, he doesn't know what to do when it comes to romantic endeavors. If you've ever seen the cartoon, 'Johnny Bravo', that's typically how Takumi acts with most women. And despite his numerous times of striking out or getting slapped in the face, he cannot see exactly what it is that he's doing wrong.

However, if he likes the person, like really, really, really, likes them, he's going to make an effort to change himself. He's going to watch his overly-obnoxious flirting and is going to cease being loud and boastful. He'll try to remember to speak in a calm, passive voice and be more humble. He may even use Ryūzō as a reference, copying his mannerisms and trying to act more calm, cool and collected, which may or may not work out. All in all, it depends on luck to determine whether or not Takumi's crush notices.

Kotono, much like Takumi, isn't all that good when it comes to romantic encounters, which is ironic because she's been asked out more times than any other female teacher on campus combined, both by her fellow staff members and even by some of her students. However, she always refuses or denies them.

One of the reasons for this is because she knows that typically men only want one thing from her, and that's to get her in bed. She's had to punish many students that tried to get 'handsy' with her in the nurse's office. The second reason is because she doesn't want them finding out about her lifestyle, i.e., how she keeps her home. She is absolutely atrocious when it comes to housework, and should anyone besides Ryūzō find out, she'd die of embarrassment.

However, the main reason is because she doesn't want anything distracting her from her main goal, which is to find out what happened to her younger sister. Having a partner would just distract her from that. Until she's found out what became of her younger sibling, being with someone is not on her list of priorities.

Should Kotono do develop a crush, she is a lot more open with herself. She takes care of her appearance and tries to behave more... respectable of a woman her age. Though she isn't worried about partners right now, she is worried about not finding someone to be with later on down the line. She is only in her early 30s, but she is worried about what will become of her as she gets older. Will men still find her attractive or not? Who knows...

Coming home from the academy, Ryūzō Mizutori found a small package next to the door. Cautiously picking it up, the contents surprisingly felt light. Going inside, he opened it at his desk to find…

An ancient-looking book and scroll? There’s a letter attached too…

‘Greetings to you, Mr. Mizutori.

I’m really glad that this was published in time to give to you. Never went through so much effort before to give a present to someone, but hey I say this was pretty worth it.

About two years ago, me and my archaeology team found scrolls buried underneath the forest in Kyoto. That same area was said to be home to a royal family in the Heian period. Deciphering these scrolls have lead us to believe that they belonged to the heir of the family; it went into really deep detail about the duties he needed to do, his relationships with his parents and servants, the eventual downfall of his kingdom…

So why not make use of what we’ve deciphered and turn this into an autobiography? Since we were randomly thrust into this Secret Santa event, and you’re a language teacher, I figured this would make a cool gift for you. Don't you think it’s such an honor that you could read this book pre-release~?

Ah, but if you want to see what the ancient scrolls originally said, we’ve made a copy of those too. It’s on the scroll. Have fun reading~

Ryūzō had finished reading the letter before he took another look at the book and scroll that were delivered unto him by the archeologist. Truthfully, he had a love/hate relationship with most historians. While digging up the past for research in order to find out more about the way ancient civilizations lived their lives was a worthy cause, he had seen for himself too many times that most archeologists were little more than treasure hunters, using the guise of researchers as a way to line their own pockets. Many famous and ancient treasures from times past always had a way of turning up 'missing' whenever such "researchers" arrived on the scene.

He recalled one such mission during his time as an assassin where he was put in charge of a convoy that was guarding some valuable and priceless treasures dug up in Egypt that were to be shipped here to Japan to showcase in one of Tokyo's museums. Unfortunately, the curator was worried that the treasures wouldn't make it to the museum, so he was asked to safeguard them. Imagine everyone's surprise when the treasures were actually being stolen and shipped somewhere by the head archeologist, himself. But thanks to Ryūzō, the thief was captured and the treasures were safely delivered to their destination.

Looking down at the scroll once more, the English languages teacher disappeared into one of the room in his house before coming back with some black ink paint and a paint brush. Sitting down at his living room table, with his dogs crowded around him to observe him, the professor followed the advice of the archeologist of Enoshima and began the slow, but fulfilling task of writing out the life of the man known as Ryūzō Mizutori...

Takumi blinked at the box upon receiving it, not really expecting any packages. But upon opening it and finding some a pair of brand-new kendo sticks, his mouth fell open and his eyes grew wide childlike delight. Picking up one of them, he felt it in his hand and smiled brightly. Testing it, he gave both several good swings and was happy with the weight and feel of them. As he packed both in his box, he only one thought left:

"You and my students are going to get along quite well!"

Kotono yawned as she sluggishly walked towards the door, the doorbell had rang not too long ago and luckily the science teacher was already up, it was good thing to because no doubt she would’ve slept through the doorbell ringing. Though she couldn’t help but be slightly annoyed, who exactly was it that would bother her during this time? Takumi had plans and Ryuzo usually wanted to be alone at this time and she couldn’t think of anyone else who would visit her so naturally she was a bit curious.

Opening the door, the bespectacled woman was greeted with a neatly wrapped gift on ground, raising a brow, she bent down and grabbed it before heading back inside and closing the door to keep any more of the nice warm heat of her house from escaping. Setting the gift on the table, she retrieved a pair of scissors to open up the box, after removing the confetti and decorative paper inside, the teacher was greeted with two mugs with science puns printed on them.

Along with the mugs, there was a Christmas card with writing inside it.

‘Merry Christmas, Kotono-san!

How are you? I hope you’re doing well! Your students aren’t giving you a hard time are they? Anyways, I hope you like your gift, I was pleasantly surprised when I got your name for the Secret Santa! To be honest, I was having a hard time figuring out what to get you, you’re a hard person to buy for haha! I know it’s not much but I hope you at least got a laugh out of it, we should get together and catch up sometime, I would love to hear what you’ve been up to! Best wishes, dear friend

Kotono looked at the mugs that Sayaka had gifted her and the Physics professor couldn't help but laugh out loud at the mugs she had received. Oh, Sayaka; she was such a card! Kotono was glad to see that her friend had loosened up a lot since she left Chuohku. She had her moments of fun, but like most things, Chuohku had a way of sucking the life and joy out of a person. Thankfully, leaving seemed to bring Sayaka back to life. Despite how prudish she appeared, Kotono enjoyed going out drinking with her; she was always more fun that way!

Looking at the mugs and feeling it was still early enough to have some morning joe, Kotono prepared to pour some coffee inside one of them, but looked as she was currently out, making her frown. She then realized something and quickly grabbed her house phone. Who was she calling exactly? Well...

"Hey Ryu, you busy right now?

It seems like most schools in Japan don’t really count Christmas as a holiday…

Most students are actually happy when Christmas comes around in the Academy for two reasons. One, because it means they got half a day off from studies and class. And two, because the Languages studies professor, Ryūzō Mizutori, actually doesn't assign them any unnecessary work or tests, surprisingly. Ryūzō doesn't bother assigning any work because he's usually too wrapped in his thoughts about the holidays to care right now. His Christmas mornings are pretty tame and quiet because he doesn't do much celebrating. He prefers to dress up in a warm sweater, get a nice hot cup of tea, lie down in his living room with his dogs and just think about his past. He will also wish Takumi and Kotono a 'happy Christmas' before the day is over with.

Takumi, unfortunately, doesn't change his teaching methods even with Christmas coming up. He will still force his students outside (in the blistering cold, mind you), and have them work out. After the school day is over, he'll head to a nearby store and buy both Ryūzō and Kotono a Christmas gift. After that, he'll dress to the nines and go out for a night on the town on Christmas Eve to celebrate. On Christmas morning, he, surprisingly, just spends his day relaxing, playing video games or sleeping. ...Yes, surprisingly enough, Christmas is the one day out of the year that Takumi doesn't do anything.

Like Ryūzō, students are also happy about Professor Kotono, because more often than not, she almost always cancels class a few days before the holidays. She consider them her own 'mini-vacation'. She'll spend her time, getting drunk, prank-calling her friends and just being her usual self. On Christmas morning, she'll spend her day sleeping off the hangover she got the night before, while Ryūzō will come by and check up on her, whilst also cleaning up the mess she made in her apartment.
