Watch Me: Our Kind Of People
Lee Daniels is back bringing black shows to Fox after Empire and Star were canceled. This show has nothing to do with the music industry, and focuses on a woman who has to go up against the black elite while uncovering her own family secrets.
Angela Vaughn (palyed. byYaya DaCosta) is a single mother who runs her own black hair care comapny. Angela has neglected her daughter to focus on her dreams, so they have a strained relationship. Angela packs up her aunt and daughter to move to Martha’s Vineyard to learn more about her dead mother’s past, which leads Angela to discover the truth about her paternity.
Aunt Piggy (played by Debbi Morgan) is Angela’s sassy aunt who has her own dark secrets she’s keeping from Angela. Nikki Vaughn (played by Alana Bright) is Angela’s teenage daughter. Nikki is still mourning her grandmother, while also trying to get closer to her mother. Nikki was kicked out of school for fighting, so Angela wants to provide a fresh start for her daughter. Nikki is dealing with fitting in the the black snobs just like her mother.
Angela quickly becomes enemies with Leah Franklin-Dupont (played by Nadine Ellis). Leah is the most powerful woman in town and everyone bows down to her. So Leah feels threatened by Angela’s arrival, especially after learning that they’re related.
Teddy Franklin (played by Joe Morton) is Leah’s father, and the most powerful man in town. Leah wants to usurp her father’s thrown and take his company, but Teddy refuses to go down without a fight. Teddy’s secrets are what leads to Leah and Angela learning they’re connected.
Leah is married to Raymond Dupont (played by Morris Chestnut). They’re the picture perfect, rich, successful, and powerful black couple. They’re marriage definitely isn’t as perfect as others may believe.
Quincy Dupont (played by Kyle Bary) and Lauren Dupont (played by Rhyon Nicole Brown) are Leah and Raymond’s children. Raymond is grooming Quincy to be the next him, and Leah is grooming Lauren to be the next her. Leah does find it difficult to accept her daughter is a lesbian.
Tyrique Chapman (played by Lance Gross) is a contractor that quickly catches Angela’s eye and helps her adjust to her new home.

I finished the Entertainment District arc of DemonSlayer yesterday--one of two shows I finished. I wanted more from the finale, but can’t complain since, as always, the ART was 🤌--quite detailed.

Just finished watching "Our Kind of People" yesterday. It captured and retained my attention from Pilot to Finale. LOVED IT. How am I just now learning about this show? I blame FOX for not advertising this show more. Definitely recommend it.

It’s Black History Month and Ridloff totally made history while in Eternals. Loved how much diversity was in the film; I was quite pleased about them having Ridloff in this film and glad they showed ASL being used.
