Alright, to whoever’s listening, I’m gonna call it quits for Tumblr. I doubt the censorship issue is going to get any better, and I’m finding that, of all the sites I share art on, this is the one showing the least amount of results for feedback. If anybody wants to keep up with my stuff, check out any of the links below, where I’ll be continuing to post my work. This is pretty much the only reason why I won’t be deleting the page altogether, so that there’s something to redirect anybody who’s curious. Catch you all on greener pastures.

Inspired by "Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse", here is a similar concept using many of the Sonics we've come to know through the years, including:

Modern Sonic: Sporting that same sleek look since '98, he's a bit weathered, but he keeps truckin', taking the cheers and jeers as they come, and never looking back. He's had a roller coaster of a life, but he wouldn't have it any other way!

(Based on: Modern Sonic (SA1-present), Archie, IDW, Sonic X.)

Classic Sonic: The happy-go-lucky dude with the 'tude, his adventures are just beginning, though it looks like his future might not be quite what he's expecting anymore. He's not much of a talker, but he doesn't need words to let you know he has your back.

(Based on: Classic Sonic (Sonic 1 - S3&K), Sonic Mania, OVA)

Toon Sonic: On weekdays he has all sorts of wacky adventures, but on Saturdays, he gets a bit serious. Occasionally he breaks out the guitar for a jam session, but typically he prefers to juice instead!

(Based on: AoStH, SatAM, Underground)

Boom Sonic: Despite the odds against him, he faces them all with unflinching snark and a one-liner you'll probably find yourself quoting later (and he'll know it). He'd rather take things easy than deal with yet another new threat each week, even if they do tend to rarely last more than ten minutes against him.

Sonic-Man: He's the supersonic hero who saves princesses and other girls in trouble! Though not quite sure how he got here, he nonetheless rises to the challenge to show that he's a good a Sonic as any!

(Based on: Sonic-Man (Sonic 06), obviously.)

Sanic: A sort of odd fellow who seems to be determined to constantly state his need for going fast. Though a bit unnerving, he seems friendly enough, offering everyone a rather tasty, if malformed, ice cream bar.

Metal Sonic: Sonic's eternal doppelganger, he's either annoyed at the presence of multiple versions of his nemesis, or overjoyed at being given the chance to defeat them all. And he might not be the only unfriendly face awaiting our gallery of blue blurs...

Sega Hardlight is currently having a contest over on their Sonic Forces Speed Battle server, where the object is to come up with a new character and give them stats and all that good stuff. So here's Atropa the Cassowary, an infamous assassin, mostly known under her codename of "Nightshade", due to leaving the flowers on her targets as a calling card. She can deliver powerful kicks that take down most in a single strike, sparking up a static surge to paralyze tougher foes.

Oh hey, it finally happened. Guessing elephant-man nips are too hot for the Tumblr nazis to handle.

Just donated the first instalment of money made from the zine to Milton Knight; £188.50 or $229.47 USD! He’s very pleased with the zine, and I want to thank everyone who’s bought a copy so far! 

Another "Marvemon" from Earth-82865, the Fighting/Steel type Pulverine!

 Incredibly tenacious, they take on foes of all sizes with their nearly-indestructible claws, and seemingly recover from almost any injury. For some reason, they're not very friendly with Duslops.

Several months ago, a fanzine was put together by @notanothersonicblog that focused on the two 90s Sonic cartoons, "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog", and the Saturday-morning show simply titled "Sonic the Hedgehog" (known by many fans as SatAM), with proceeds going to Milton Knight, one of the animators for these cartoons, who had some hard times a while back. The fanzine has been on sale for a while now, and you can purchase it yourself here: https://gumroad.com/l/iYqtU Once again, I decided to do a pic based on AoStH, imagining if it was a 90s anime series.

Seeing as how I finished 99% of this before midnight, I'm still counting this as my final pic of 2018.

Did an attempt at the live-action movie version of Sonic, based on the leaked mock-up poster.  I honestly like this a lot more than what’s being implied with the actual released posters, since Sonic at least still looks a bit cartoony and “cute”. No idea where things may have changed, but I guess we’ll see what the movie actually holds in store...

Part of me seethes with rage that this thing I threw together in five minutes has gotten more attention on Twitter than the entirety of my artwork combined. You’re lucky you’re adorable, Amy.

Bound the Iguana, Leap’s big sister. Had plans for her for a while, but only now did I finally get to where I feel she has a good jumping-off point with her design. Basically clicked when I decided to make her “hairstyle” be the exact opposite of Leap’s.

Fuck off with that nonsense @staff You can’t say you’re encouraging creative expression and then turn right around and slam down censorship on everybody. This isn’t a website for children, so piss off with your claims that this is protecting anyone. And before anybody tries to claim I’m mad that porn isn’t allowed on here or something, I’m stating this because it’s not going to end with the ban of adult content.  Censorship never does; even Twitter has the common sense to let users dictate whether or not they themselves can see explicit material rather than having someone else decide for them.

A better, more positive Tumblr

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).  

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.
