I have daydream characters who are either of those. My main antagonist is a small little guy who's originally a very significant childhood icon in animation history. The deuteragonist who'd do almost anything for the protagonist can turn into a big scary monster and acts really wholesome around him even in that state.

Bonus art commentary:
So the mask is originally meant to be white like how I imagined it in my head and daydreams involving masks. White masks are supposed to represent good guys/heroes while villain actors get purple masks. Though, the green also looks nice here because it helps the subject "pop" some more in the dull background.
The mask's design is ripped off inspired by Autodale's mask design. For those who don't know, Autodale is an indie animated series by the YouTuber Dead Sound. It's very good, please check it out, I highly recommend it. I think it was one of my world building fuels back then. Not exactly in a "taking inspiration from it" way, but like as a motivation to world build in general. Like, hey, some guy on the internet made this cool ass world, I wanna do that too! So I went and did. The world building did change over the years.
But we're straying too far from the subject. I just wanna talk about how I was inspired by the mask design. Whenever I imagine masks in a daydream MV, they look pretty similar to Autodale's masks, moreso with the hero ones. The villain masks are basically that design but make them purple and give them a pair of horns. You get the picture.
As for the shading, I was trying to dull Sponge in anyway I can to match the gloomy mood. But apparently my color theory skills are still not perfect for this sort of thing. So what I did is use an Airbrush in a darker color and reduce the opacity. It's not as satisfying, but it's good enough.
Also, I had to rush the art because April Fools was approaching during the making of this piece and I want to work on the Bug Facts meme as a personal April Fool's art project. The meme art project may have fell flat face first on two to three social media platforms, but it was worth it.
Hope you have fun seeing this angsty SpongeBob painting and alright with the in paracosm/fanfic lore around it.

Here's another art work of Spunch. This time it's official. Like, official to the Screen Universe lore.
In the story line, his show declined in writing and so the internet realm classified the early and later era as "Old and New" SpongeBob. The former being loved and missed dearly by the internet, and the latter being, eeerrr, overdramatic and despised by the Internet Realm.
Of course, both "SpongeBobs" are played by the same eldritch bearer, from the start until the present day. But... The internet realm doesn't know that.
A particular mouse king wants the sponge lord dead for a mysterious reason. But it is against the law to kill another mascot with his own hands outside of war. So he took matters to another direction. He tried to drive him to suicide.
Think about it. It'd technically not be his fault if the victim does it with his own hands.
To pull this off, Mouse King cast illusion spells to speed up SpongeBob's depression process. One of them is making him see manifestations of the two personas the Internet Realm imposes. Both to make him feel guilty about "making his show shit and never be good enough ever again" and feel horrible about himself.
Shadow ink demon represent "new SpongeBob", which makes the bearer guilty of "turning his show into what it become" and to remind him of his failures/being guilty for receiving the Weblings' abuse.
The light thing represents "Old SpongeBob" and what it could have been if the bearer "wasn't a failure" or what successes he could've yield.
Of course, the mouse king wants to use the sponge lord's body for nefarious purposes
Tldr: Mickey wanted SpongeBob's corpse for a ritual spell experiment. So he tried driving SpongeBob to suicide by guilt tripping him into thinking his show's temporary downfall amongst other horrible things happening to him was his fault (and because killing him personally is super illegal). Almost succeeds, but failed.

Ludwig Von Drake and Horace Horsecollar!!!
Both of them left the Waltian Cult, the main antagonistic organisation of the Screen Universe paracosm. The latter tried to leave both the cult and a toxic relationship with Clarabelle all together, and was helped by the former. Ludwig stayed a bit longer because he believed that he could destroy the cult from the inside out and turn the Kingdom back to normal. However, due to circumstances, he had to leave eventually too.

SpongeBob when 90's-early 2000's Nicktoons... Bro got Survivor's Guilt because he believed that it was his fault that his show caused their shows to discontinue and had their immortality taken away this way. Even though none of it is his fault. He gets new friends of course, but it still didn't change the fact that a lot of the past ones did die one way or another.
I hope everyone with a para who has oulived everyone they care about has as amazing day 🩵🩵
(I was actually healing for a bit and stopped daydreaming as much and my one sole para that I still needed was everything to me hehe)
