Carice returned the shake with a firm one, a grin still planted on her face, “Alright, L! I thought you were a plumber,” she remarked, “As for things getting tough…” she placed her hands back onto her hips and tilted her head to one side with a sigh, “Yeah. Who knew individual Inklings could be so troublesome.”
The Octoling grinned, however, “But! Not to worry, we’re still working hard to keep you all protected!” she flexed one arm, as if trying to hammer in a vote of confidence.
Following L to the door, she peered inside before stepping through the door, “I’m sure it’s fine,” Carice went on to say, “If they want me gone, they can just kick me out, I guess.” she shrugged.
She looked around the lobby, arms folded over her chest. Eyes landing on the receptionist to the left, she glanced back to L, “Guess we should sign in!” she reached for her belt and pulled her own ID card out, which was attached to an extending lanyard. She showed it to the receptionist, “Carice Nguyen, Commander of fleet 280. I was allowed here to observe.”
The receptionist nodded, and punched in her info into their computer, “Thank you,” they said coolly, “And you?” they turned their yellow and purple eyes to L.
“Well, I hope we don’t have anyone interrupt us while we’re here, I feel like something else could happen at any moment,” L said with a weak laugh, only half joking. All the conflict these past few years was worrying him for sure. “But at least you’ll be there to help us with that.”
When L walked into the building, he noticed it was definitely a change. Unlike the places he usually worked at, which was mainly homes, this building was a lot bigger and more robust. It made sense, This was a government facility and they needed a bigger and more spacious workplace, but the change was still a bit jarring. In fact, it was even a bit intimidating. Like he’d be in big trouble if he even did one small thing wrong.
As L walked up to the front desk, he took his card out and got it ready, knowing he’d need it. Unlike Carice’s he simply had it in his pocket. Soon, the receptionist asked who he was, and it took him out of his thoughts. He quickly handed his ID over, “Oh- L Moneta, I’m here for the experiment in room 127.”
Despite his odd reaction, his card and his reasoning seemed very real.

The cats that were once very friendly and relaxed had now turned pitch black and were hostile to anything that came near them. Was this The Beast’s doing or the Ink’s doing? Honestly it could be both,but that wasn’t the thing to focus on right now as there was a 25ft tall angry Koopa standing in the lake as if it was a puddle to him.
He lets out another snarl,the flames from inside him burning out as he did before he slowly straightened his back up,threw his head back slightly and let out a thunderous roar that shook all of Lake Lapcat for a few seconds before the bright white eyes stare down at where Luigi was again.
The Beast inhaled some air for a moment as Luigi started to run in the opposite direction and soon let out a large line of flame towards where he guessed Luigi would have run too. Did he miss or try to predict to hit him?
Nope turns out that was part of his plan as he slowly starts to move his attack towards where Luigi was. The flame destroying anything that was in it’s path as The Beast tries to hit the other with his attack.
It didn’t take long in Luigi’s escape for him to find where the land ended and the ocean began. He wasted no time jumping in and frantically swimming, though he wasn’t as fast than when he was on land.
He didn't even notice the fire until he could feel the heat coming close, he was just that focused. Just as it was about to burn him to a crisp, Luigi dove down as deep into the water as his tired legs could. Though, the adrenaline from his fear was helping out here.
The ink, the giant beast, the unknown of where he was... it was all making him absolutely dread it all. It was too much to handle on his own, but there was nothing he could do! He just had to get out...

The beast just slowly spun around as he slowly woke up,his spikes getting more red at the tips as time went on. He was also slowly raising up in the air with a thin line of goop holding him up as he continues to spin round.
It wasn’t long before The Beast was fully awoken at this point,the shell spinning fast now as a sudden rainstorm followed it. Was this the beast’s doing? Probably,but it seemed to bring a feeling of dread throughout the whole of Lake Lapcat. The cats that were located around the area dreading what was coming next as they hid,knowing that soon they’ll just be attacking anything in sight soon anyway.
In one quick movement,The Beast had shot up into the sky and in a flash of light had emerged from his shell,the light soon spreading all over Lake Lapcat as The Beast causes the bright sunshine to instantly vanish and cover the lake in dark clouds as he falls down to the ground,landing on his hands and feet as he takes a few breaths before slowly standing upright,a low growl escaping him as pure rage fills him.
He just stood there for a few seconds,the rain falling onto him but not washing a single bit of the ink off him. After letting out yet another growl,The Beast’s head turns towards the direction Luigi was in and just stared for a few seconds before jumping over a large distance of the lake to be closer to where the green hero was.
Luigi started to run towards a patch of land where all the cats were, constantly looking all around to see if there was anything he could do. He could see that shell slowly rise up and spin, and so he was rushing to do literally anything before things turned disastrous.
Even then, that didn't seem to work, as he soon felt the place grow gloomy and rainy. The storm only made him feel even worse, making him consider finding a hiding spot like the cats were. It didn't take him long to decide that either, as the storm around him grew worse. The only problem was, there was nowhere he could see that was a good spot.
Still, he ran around the place in a panic to find something, anything that could help him. The fear he felt all over his body was getting worryingly bad, almost like something dreadful was about to happen.
And it did! Luigi jumped practically two feet in the air when the beast jumped and landed. The little sliver of hope he had instantly vanished, much like the light around the place. One look up at the monster confirmed his hitch, this was Bowser! What happened to him? A small part of him was worried, but most of him was absolutely terrified. His heart was racing, his limbs were shaking, and he even felt a little queasy.
Luigi booked it from here, his only objective was to get away. But he only took a few steps before the beast landed right in front of him! He screamed and jumped even higher, falling right after. It didn't take long before he was up again, running as fast as he could in the opposite direction, not even looking back now.

The beast had no idea how long he was even here for,could have been hours,days,weeks even months for all he knew! All he knew that he had covered the whole islands in the black goop and had planned on moving further to spread it even wider. The beast only managed to get some goop in the Mushroom Kingdom,not as much as he would like but enough to cause a ruckus and hopefully infest some of the locals.
He was currently resting in his usual position in the middle of Lake Lapcat. He had made sure all the lighthouses were covered in the black goop before resting and that the shines that helped them light up were hidden. He didn’t want any of the locals stopping him when he awakens now does he?
The beast didn’t know how long he had rested for till he felt a presence in the lake,his eyes snapping open the moment Luigi landed on the ground as a low rumble of a growl escaped him as he shook in his shell for a moment,slowly starting to rise from under the puddle of goop he was resting in.
It took him a few moments before the upper half of his shell was fully out of the goop and spinning around slowly. It was going to take The Beast another minute or so before he had fully awakened from his slumber,but rest assured……He knew were exactly Luigi was
After a moment, Luigi took a look around the area as he cooled down. The islands he seemed to be around were nothing he's seen before, and they were all covered by that same goop he saw back at home. If he could guess, this was where it came from. Maybe he could try and stop it? This sort of thing was practically his second job at this point. He sure wished Mario was here right now...
He only had a minute or so to reminisce until he saw something from the corner of his eye, and he swiftly looked over. When be did, he swore his heart sank down even farther than it already was. That menacingly large shell, those spikes around it, was that... Bowser? Was that his shell covered in all that ink? It wouldn't have been a surprise if Bowser was the one who caused all of this. He bet that the Koopa would do something like this if he got the chance. Luigi just really, really hoped that wasn't the case.
The thought woke him up right away, giving him the energy to finally stand. His lower half ached from the rough landing, but this was no time to worry about his pain. He started to walk forward farther into the island. It was nothing but a limp at first, but be soon got up to speed. While he did, he looked at that shell every minute or so, desperately hoping that it didn't move closer.

Smiling, Carice placed one hand on her hip, “Oh, nice! I had thought that the volunteer had already gotten here or something, and I managed to miss it, with training going on a bit longer than I thought.” she mused, “Glad to meet you, though!” she offered him a hand, “My name’s Carice.”
When asked about work, she shook her head, “Nah, I’m a commander in the army. I’ve been curious about this project since they started talking about it, and I guess since I have a decent position, they let me come and observe.” she chuckled a little, shrugging her shoulders, “Or they just want me here for extra protection. Could go either way these days.” her tone came with an air of exhaustion, that of having to deal with one too many Squidbeak agents.
Brown eyes following after the other’s, Carice soon turned her sights towards the building, “We could probably head in, though. If you’d like.” she turned back towards L, “Even if I don’t work here, I’m sure they’d at least let their volunteer in.”
“No, no, I actually think I'm early,” he looked down to check a watch he had, before nodding. Definitely early. “I'm L, just L. Nice to meet you.” He held a pretty large hand out a hand as well and shook hers.
“I don't know much about the army, I'm just a plumber, but I hear things are getting tough.” He nodded, before turning to the building as well. The card was taken out again as he looked for a scanner. Though it took a few moments, he found it and scanned it in.
Once the door unlocked, he opened it up and held it behind her, “If they let you come, then come on in.”

Reports were coming in about a mysterious black goop showing up around the Mushroom Kingdom. It was one of the most concerning issues they had in a while, so Mario and Luigi were sent out to investigate. While Mario was at home, Luigi just happened to be taking a walk in the same area, so he arrived way earlier. Luckily, the inky goop was far away from any town, with nobody getting hurt yet, but that didn't mean it couldn't get worse. They've had less puzzling incidents turn sour before.
It didn't take long for Luigi to come across a big puddle of the stuff out in a field. With how dark it looked, he first thought it was oil. But why would there be oil around these parts? He hadn't heard of the kingdom running off oil for years! It only made him even more concerned...
Though, when he decided to duck down and take a closer look, it certainly didn't seem like oil. It didn't have that smell, nor did it look the part. It also seemed like it was... moving? Almost like it was alive, moving around as if it was flowing somewhere.
The whole thing made his heart sink to the pit of his stomach, as of there was an aura around it that just made him feel uncomfortable. Before he could really hone in on that, however, the goop moved under him, and he fell in much deeper than it looked! With a yelp, Luigi tried to swim out, but soon he was somehow falling through the air!
He must've fallen for a minute before he abruptly landed on the grass. While he fortunately landed on his bottom, the fall left him pooped, and he had to sit back and adjust before even looking around.

What had just happened? A strangely-dressed– not that the giant would know of such things as how humans normally dressed, but nevertheless the clothing did not resemble that which he was accustomed to seeing upon humans– fellow had fallen from the sky, and, Goddess be praised, he had been around to catch him. He shivered to think what may have happened to the poor fellow had he fallen any further.
He carefully placed the (relatively) little fellow on the ground, and remained knelt there. The birds, they seemed to like him, at least; they weren’t squawking at him in warning. That meant he mustn’t be evil, right…?
“… Thou art–” he shook his head; that was far too informal, “You are… being alright now, and… that is what mattering, hrm?”
Luigi was very rattled from all this, that was clear. Accidentally tripping and falling off a cliff, fearing for his life as he fell, only to be caught by an actual giant... It was a lot to take in. He probably should've been more grateful than he was at the moment, but his head was swarming with confusion and anxiety.
Still, he gave a smile as he was set down, as fake and nervous as it looked.
“Erm, yeah, thanks.” It took a lot to look up at the giant, even having to tip-toe a little, but he did so anyways. “I don’t think I’d be here if you didn’t catch me...”

I've been thinking about this lately... There's that shadow Lu.igi in Bow.ser's Fury, right? What if instead of that being just something created with the goop throughout the game, Lu.igi ended up getting roped into this? He's pretty gulible, so he could probably be tricked into this easily.
And so he gets roped into it, gets infected with the same goop Bow.ser did, and it's more of an incentive for Ma.rio to team up with Jr.
But I don't know, just thinking.

Carice had arrived at the same dome, however she had been there for a few minutes longer. Being so involved with the army, it was only natural for her to be intrigued by such an experiment as this; making a living creature entirely out of ink? The possibilities were endless here, especially when it came to crafting more soldiers.
With her position in the army, Carice was allowed to enter the facility and observe the goings-on. It took a bit of work, but she felt it would have been worth it if it allowed her to potentially understand how these soldiers could work. All the better to be able to lead them into combat, should they be viable!
The Octoling stood around in the entrance, stretching her arms and legs now and again. She didn’t really understand all this scientific stuff, but she did have a decent interest in it. After all, it was what kept their society running! The least she could do is support it.
However, she was getting bored just standing around and waiting. She supposed she could sit, but she didn’t like being idle for too long… Thankfully, someone else had entered, finally! She turned to the other Octoling, giving a smile and a wave.
“Hey, you work here?” Carice asked. She paused, “Huh, wait… I think I’ve seen you around before… Didn’t you fix the piping in my barracks a couple weeks ago?” seemed like she remembered faces quite well.
When he arrived, L was glad to see someone else there, hopefully to take him in. While he didn’t quite recall seeing her before, she looked like she worked there. It was a relief, to say the least, curbing the anxiety he felt about this quite a bit.
“No, I don’t work here. I’m here for the experiment, I’m a volunteer.” The Octoling sifted through his pockets for a moment before he pulled out a card he was given when he was accepted. It had his picture and his info, and showed he had permission to be in the premises. He put it away soon after.
“Do you work here? I don’t think there’s anyone else coming...” L took a quick look around to see if anyone else was around, and he thought about if anyone else was volunteering... but he swore it was a one person only deal.

If he had no plan, then that must mean he knew what he was doing. It must mean he had plenty of experience. Didn’t it?
“Mind telling me about that contraption you’ve got there?” she pointed to the red Poltergeist upon his back, “It seems awfully–” she hesitated, trying to find the right words. “… intricate. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“Usually I don’t have the time...” he admitted with a shaky laugh. “I’m just thrown into these things, so not really.”
It was true he had experience, but only because he was forced into this thrice before. His skill had nothing to do with things like practice, he was just sort of forced to learn. Usually that learning happened when his brother was kidnapped, unfortunately.
When she asked, he pointed to the Poltergust, “Oh, this? It’s the Poltergust, there’s only three of these. It’s a ghost catcher, actually, it sucks them up.”
