A theory I've had for a while that I feel like I should share
Many people think that the end of Alan Wake III will end with him making his perfect story, much like how the real Tom Zane wrote his "master poem" and went with Barbara to live in the paradise that is the Light Place. Some people theorize that Alan will go to this place with Alice. They will finally be free of the horrors that have plagued them for 13 years.
Following the trend of the ending line in the two previous games, I think I know what will be the final line in the third game.
It's not a lake, it's an ocean.
It's not a loop, it's a spiral.
It's not the end, it's the beginning.
I may be completely wrong but I feel like it would be super cool and make the most sense for that to be the final line, even if the Light Place theory isn't correct.

A small little detail that I love that isn't talked about enough is that in AW1 when Alan is yelling and pissed off at Alice, he stops and turns away when the lights flicker because he knows Alice will already be freaked out enough. Even though his temper is rising, he stops and waits for the lights to come back on to continue. You can tell that even when he's mad he still cares about her. And I just love that

GOTG 3 SPOILERS
I don’t think anyone has pointed this out yet but the soundtrack playing in Vol 3 when the Guardians all stood in a circle and announced that they were going their separate ways and Rocket was named captain was the exact same soundtrack that played in Vol 1 when Peter gave his 12% plan loser speech and Rocket said they were a bunch of jackasses standing in a circle.
It’s a parallel of the moment the team officially united to when they officially split.

GOTG 3 SPOILERS
It’s so important to me how they included Dog Days in Volume 3.
The soundtrack across all the movies has always been super nostalgic older songs. This was reflective of the Guardians themselves. They were all stuck thinking about their older days. About their pasts. They all had something that they couldn’t let go of and couldn’t move on from. It trapped all of them in pain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Dog Days is a pivotal moment. It’s a modern song. Across the movies, each of the Guardians have been healing from their pasts and learning how to move on and live their lives. They’ve accepted what has happened to them, but they now understand that it does not define them. They can finally stop letting other people and events have control over their lives. This is their own story. No one else’s. And they get to decide how that story goes and what they want their life to be.
The soundtracks are reflective of this. They go up by a decade each movie.
Everyone going their separate ways in the end to pursue their own lives was the final step in that process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Furthermore, the fact that Rocket is the one to put on the song means even more. He’s arguably the one most hurt and affected by his past. He couldn’t let go like the others could. He refused to open up about it to anyone, believing he deserved to stay trapped in that pain. But this movie is all about him learning how to move on and live again. He doesn’t have to forget about what happened, but he doesn’t have to continually punish himself for it. Him playing this song shows that the last of the Guardians are finally ready to embrace change.
Tumblr media
He’s done running. They all are.
The way everyone in the theater gasped when I saw it and that song came on proves how pivotal of a moment that is.
The dog days are finally over.

Can’t stop thinking about how guilty Hunter probably feels over Flapjack’s death.
He promised to protect him, and in the end he killed him with his own hands.
Flapjack saw the face of his best friend, but it wasn’t him.
Hunter probably felt as Belos crushed Flapjack. That feeling definitely isn’t something that goes away. He probably thinks about it and remembers that feeling of Flapjack in his own hand from time to time and it makes him feel sick to his stomach.
That guilt of feeling partially like he’s responsible and he’s the one that killed him is definitely something that takes a while for him to work through.

Can’t stop thinking about this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Floor and Teefs were begging Rocket to leave. But, he was too distraught and consumed by grief over Lylla to listen. Floor and Teefs died because of that. And that’s something Rocket has blamed himself over for a very long time.

I feel like Tumblr would enjoy this
This is why a friend and I can’t be trusted with Photoshop in our Digital Design lab
We made this a few months ago, yes that is Elizabeth Holmes
We named her Elizabelos Witteholmes
The funniest thing is that we didn't do anything to the eyes, skin color, or hair color
She just already had that crazed look with piercing blue eyes
(We didn’t make the Darius)
The entire time we just kept quoting “Hunter, why are you hurting me??”
(Had to edit all the videos we made into one thing, if anyone wants one of the clips separately lemme know!)

Thinking about how similar Luz and Hunter’s deaths are.
Both were in the middle of doing something that made them happy when Belos showed up out of nowhere to ruin it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both deaths were at the hands of Belos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both in a cosplay of a character they loved.
Tumblr media
Both in a realm that wasn’t their own.
Tumblr media
Both involved giving “Belos”, while using someone else’s body, a hug while trying to get through to someone else. Luz was trying to reach Hunter. Collector was trying to reach the good in Belos, back when he used to be just Philip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both sacrificed themselves to protect the ones that they loved. Those who they mutually had once seen as their enemy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both cared more about making sure that everyone else was okay over themself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both began to helplessly sink in liquid before being pulled out.
Tumblr media
There was a reassurance to another about doing something good.
Tumblr media
There was someone who willingly laid their life down to bring them back. Someone who had been around centuries and had see all of the awful things Belos had done. Someone who was dying anyway and wanted to use their last and final act to protect the ones that they loved. Bringing back someone with the very wild magic that Belos sought to destroy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once revived, both Luz and Hunter, who were originally powerless, gained magic from this sacrifice. They even got a new form/look too (with longer hair and a hair strand).
Tumblr media
And of course…the light orbs and green accents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I swear Luz and Hunter are the best siblings ever and I adore their parallels.

Thinking about how we’ve never once seen Hunter fighting at full strength and power in toh.
You need to remember this dude has been trained his entire life to serve as an elite soldier under the emperor. Belos wouldn’t have made him his right hand man and eventual coven head after Lilith left if he wasn’t capable of handling himself, anyone who might seek to harm the emperor or anyone else of importance, dangerous monsters and demons, and capturing powerful wild witches.
Tumblr media
I mean, think about all the specifics of his job and training that he’s mentioned. He had to have been really freaking tough and talented to have been able to make it through all that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we never once get to see what he’s truly capable of.
In Seperate Tides, Hunter doesn’t see Luz or Eda as any sort of threat. He knows they’re both powerless. He’s clearly relaxed and toying with them. He’s confident that he has the upper hand and isn’t worrying about having to handle a couple of troublesome criminals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hunting Palismen takes place late at night. He was expecting this to be a quick and easy in and out mission. It’s understandable that he would be tired this late. And again, you have to remember that he still doesn’t view Luz as any sort of threat. He’s annoyed by her and gets caught off guard because he wasn’t expecting her to be any sort of challenge to handle.
Tumblr media
Plus he was just in a crash and doesn’t even have his staff the majority of the episode, but is still able to easily keep up with Luz. And he willingly goes along with her afterwards so that he can get the palismen quicker and then dispose of Luz.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time he fights Kiki, he’s been running around all night and clearly just wants this mission to be over with. Kiki has been shown to be a pretty powerful person fighting wise, and even though she’s barely conscious, Hunter bests her fairly quickly. It wasn’t something that was really that hard for him.
Tumblr media
Then comes to Eclipse Lake. By the time he and Amity fight, he’s exhausted, just had a mental breakdown, and fighting on an unfamiliar staff. Mental breakdowns like this leave people feeling super drained and burnt out, but he still gives Amity a pretty good run for her money.
Tumblr media
I believe he would have easily won if not for the events in the episode leading up to the fight. I mean, he was literally just involved in a mine cart chase before he got to the lake.
Tumblr media
In Any Sport in a Storm, other characters clearly point out the fact that he’s very talented at what he does. But he doesn’t exert full effort. He’s trying to recruit teens and play a sport.
Tumblr media
In Labyrinth Runners, he’s dealing with the impacts and trauma from Hollow Mind. This dude has just learned that everything he thought he ever knew was a complete lie. He knows the man he once saw as his uncle wants him dead. He’s terrified. All he ever had to do before was follow orders, but now it’s up to him to make decisions and he has no idea what to do, where to go, or who to turn to. All he knows is that he has to stay as far away from Belos as possible.
Tumblr media
All of this is clearly mentally and physically draining him. But even at this weak point, he’s able to push through and get to Gus when several other scouts and a literal coven head could not.
Tumblr media
Again in Clouds On the Horizon, he’s still terrified and dealing with everything that happened. He’s still not in a good head space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In King’s Tide, he’s been in yet another crash and is being effected by the draining spell. But he’s still able to push through and fight Belos, holding up fairly well, when everyone else with a sigil can barely even move.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn’t even him fighting in Thanks to Them. That was just Belos using his body. But still, an argument can be made. He’s able to push through Belos’s possession after being rusty on fighting and all of his training for literal months. Belos was clearly trying to hurt Hunter when possessing him and didn’t care whether he lived or died. Hunter pushes through in minutes.
Tumblr media
When Belos possessed Raine, he didn’t want to hurt them. He needed a body and to sustain Raine as long as he could. Raine has been trapped as a puppet, but they haven’t been conscious for months. If they were freed from puppet form, then they’d still be as used to fighting as before they were enslaved into a dreamless sleep.
Tumblr media
Belos even comments on how powerful Raine is, but it still takes them a lot longer to push through his control than Hunter did. They did also have to push through Collector’s, but there’s still a point to be made.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In For the Future, again Hunter is still rusty, in painful grief, having to deal with all of his worst traumas coming back, and now has no magic at all. He figures out he’s able to use it later on, but it’s only ever that one spell.
Tumblr media
This brings me back to my main point. In all of these instances, Hunter has either been tired, burnt out, in mental distress, just previously dealing with another physically taxing event, not really trying or having to use effort, rusty from lack of practice, using unfamiliar magic, or a combination of those. I believe that if we ever got to see him fight in his prime—with a staff and magic that he was used to, in a mostly stable emotional state, physically rested or not just previously having to deal with another taxing event, and with all of his training in tact and not out of practice—then we would see just how powerful and terrifying of a foe he could have really been.
