Note

Can you explain the difference between sandman universe and sandman universe classics? Is it just what is currently canonical and what is not?

I will assume "sandman universe classics" refers to the 10 collected editions of the comics and "sandman universe" is anything with a Sandman character or Sandman brand.

The general consensus in fandom is a story with Sandman characters and written by Neil Gaiman is the canon that really matters. Published material with Sandman characters and authored by people who aren't Neil Gaiman would be considered as official fanfic or DC canon if you want to be technical.

I collected the sandman comics 1-10 in the 1-10 format as I started collecting before the show came out - are there any comics I’m missing that are in the versions of the books collected 1-4? Or the other way around?

Vol. 1 - #1-8 Vol. 2 - #9-16 Vol. 3 - #17-20 Vol. 4 - #21-28

If your copy of The Sandman has #1-28 then you're fine.
