On the eve of battle, he had decided, a morsel of hope was the most fitting gift he could think of offering the newlyweds.”

I finally lore dumped about the Couslands and life in Highever right before, uh, you know what.

There's a spot on the cliffside near Castle Cousland where Aedan would always go to take a break in-between his classes and training. A large walnut tree was able to grow there, shielded from the wind by the castle walls. Aedan would rest his back against the trunk and read a book, nap, or watch the sea. He would always go there when he needed some alone time. The tree unfortunately burned down during Howe's attack. Aedan also loved the chapel, the deck of his mother's ship, and the quiet of the Cousland family crypt, which is a long tunnel carved into the cliffside with tall windows gazing at the Waking.

For Fergus, his safe place would definitely be his father's study. The room is full of books, art, and parchments, and whenever Fergus needed some information or advice he'd come look for his father's counsel there. When he became old enough, Bryce would pour them glasses of his favorite apple brandy and they'd have long talks by the fire. After the Blight, whenever Fergus needs a moment he can be found taking it there, on that same chair by the fireside he used to sit on as a child :')
