I can’t even say what it does to my heart to have just read Chanel Miller’s memoir—formerly known as Emily Doe in the Stanford assault case— and to really understand the lengths of how brutal the entire court process was, to see in the news that an Illinois judge has finally been removed from the bench for reversing his guilty verdict in a sexual assault case(2022) in consideration of the sentencing. It has been almost a decade and we are still seeing these situations play out. Thankfully, in both of these cases, the judges were removed afterwards, but it is not restitution for the added trauma the survivor now has to live with.
