Roman x Mencken Fic: The Cross We Bear
Kids, lets not forget Mencken is still a far-right dickhead nazi who speaks in dog-whistles.
And Roman is still the spoiled rich brat who tatooed tramp's face for fun and broke little boy's hearts.
It's a fanfic of two attractive yet unlikable-in-so-many-ways men who sorta find each other in the end. But I'm sure they'll later face bigger problems in their relationship with each other or the rest of the world.

Kakuhida Fanfic Appreciation Post
I'm relatively new to the fandom. It was really funny that I picked up the Naruto series years after I watched it for the first time in middle school. Orochimaru was the one and only mighty boss back then as I recalled hahaha and how times flies!
Then, you know, just three months into watching Naruto Shippuden, the next thing I know is that I already produced a 20k kakuhida fanfiction (and it even has a sequel that's still WIP)
Let me take some time here to appreciate all the remarkable writers on Ao3! Thank you guys for your lovely works! They indeed brought me tremendous amount of joy.

I love love Hardly Eternity which is so beautifully written and I read it about three times already. The fluffy ending and Hidan POV in the sequel are so amazing.
Lowering our Coffins is another classic I guess. The ending (no spoilers here) is so shockingly beautiful and just epic really.
Bound is just so short and sweet. I always love Kakuzu's monsters and them being with Hidan is just awwwwww
Is it life or art? seriously got me in love with AUs which I don't normally fancy. That is a true piece of work which deserves many kudos and comments. The fascinating adaptions of taking Akatsuki and other Naruto characters into the London Art world left me in awe. I love nothing more than fanfictions being able to simulate original plots in the canon from a fresh angle.
Talking about AU, I really want to highlight one hidden gem, Mad world. I still couldn't stop thinking about that dark humor old british sitcom-styled fic! It reminds me of "The young ones" where the remarkable duo of Rick Mayall and Ade Edmondson also portrayed a pair of whimsical complaining fanatic and his violent-loving partner/friend with anger issues.
Seriously, you guys may want to check both the fic and the sitcoms out if you're into that kind of thing.
Annnnnd, it's interesting to see how people from different cultural background would usually portrait kakuhida relationship. I'm not gonna say which is better because since we're all fanfiction writers, you should certainly know that although there is indeed good writing and bad writing, but there's never such thing as good idea and bad idea.
I do fancy seeing them as equals both emotionally and physically, instead of one clinging to another constantly for emotional support. They are both cold-hearted S Rank rogue ninjas in a turbulent world so I guess this idea makes some sense (that's not saying the other ways don't!)
I just love love how Tumblr usually portraits Hidan as the horny and audacious one and Kakuzu as the weary grownup who has to take Hidan seriously hahaha

Hidan fled from Akatsuki and Kakuzu all of a sudden with no signs shown before. And Kakuzu had to hunt him down and sort him out (I mean destroy) under Pein's order. It was not a pleasant journey since he lost four hearts. But you got to see Hidan's family who are running a hot spring hotel and found out something about Kakuzu's past as well. There's lot of flashbacks about their time spent together when in Akatsuki. And Hidan turned into a geisha briefly by Kakuzu for camouflage haha
It's in Chinese so you're warned. I don't usually have the energy to write fics longer than 10k in English or other language that's not my mother tone.

Mario & Luigi Meta
Hi Tumblr, I’m back! (with more grandpa pairings of course)
In the past year, a lot has happened. It’s not been easy. But still, I can always return to my spiritual healing station, Tumblr.
So here I present you
Cardinal Assente and Don Cavallo
(sorry about the dual subtitles but that’s the best torrent I could find at the moment)
The following is a little bit of meta about this pairing so if you’re interested, read on!
First, the names.
Mario & Luigi
I’m not familiar with the super Mario game since I was too young when it was quite popular. So I actually came across this “possible” reference when searching for anything about this pairing in google.
And here’s what that came up.

Let me try to imagine the creating process of tnp looks like
Paolo: Guys, we need someone to pair with our lovely Mario Assente.
One of the writers in his late 40s: Hmmmmm, I always have this one name in the back of my mind that comes with Mario. I don’t know why but could we name him Luigi?
Paolo: That sounds good. But what about the last name then? It needs to give out a strong sense of intimidation.
One of the writers: How about Cavallo?
Seriously, that’s a good name to be given to Luigi Cavallo.
I don’t speak Italian so I really don’t know if that’s true.
Okay, then we can start with their first encounter in the first episode.
When Cavallo appeared into the bamboo forest and handing out Voiello’s health report, guess who fell a little bit distracted at first glance.
Maurizio is such a good actor. His eyes were following Cavallo as he was moving around, dispatching papers.
Okay, to me, Assente definitely looks like someone who’s easily to fall in love with somebody. He has too much going on in his mind at all times and probably a lot of that concerns love.
luckily, I don’t think he’s someone who would go in very deep and be stuck in it after it doesn’t work out. We’ll talk more about that later.
So, that’s a love at first sight, or definitely attraction at first sight.
I have to go back for a rewatch to see that. This whole series is really subtle in its own way and I love that!
Next, a question first, when and especially why did Cavallo decide to exploit this small “weakness” in Assente?
The answer, I guess, would have to be given by Voiello, Cavallo’s employer.
In Sir John’s castle, at dinner time, Assente remarked that Sir John was beginning to sound like a pope, then Sir john make a complimentary comeback, towards Assente.
That’s when Voiello knows he has to watch out for Assente, who has always been in his team this whole time the pope election going on.
Then we can fill in the gap. Under Voiello’s instruction, Cavallo went on a secret mission of “seducing Assente” just like those ones with spying on the nuns.
Oh he’s really great on those. Who wouldn’t want a right hand man like Cavallo?
And I think he’s really enjoying it.
Let’s see what happened in the following episode.
When the nuns first came to Cavallo about getting the 200 euro grant, Cavallo rushed into the room with two opera tickets in hand, looking extremely happy.
Mind you, although he’s indeed a cheerful dude in his own creepy way, he doesn’t always look this happy genuinely.
He has two tickets. And after several rewatch, I don’t think he has in mind that those are to bribe the two sisters in the first place. It’s just talking you know.
Why?
Watch closer.
He put those tickets down on his table, instead of giving those to the sisters like he was offering.
Of course he already decided what to do with those.
How could i miss that during the first watch!
It could be that I wasn’t familiar with Assente’s first name at first.
I thought he was just talking to a friend.
If only I knew he was asking Assente out on a date!
So what can we tell from this short message he left for Assente?
One, they’re on a first name basis now.
No one, except Cavallo, calls Assente by his first name.
And that’s a big DING DONG!
Second, Cavallo decided that they could go for pizza after it.
Not a fancy dinner, no, just pizza.
What do most romance experts tell you about first date?
Don’t take your girl to a pizza joint.
So what could we deduce from that?
Eating pizza is very relaxed, informal, often shared by friends.
So I think it’s safe to guess that at this point, only at the beginning of episode three, probably just a week or so after Assente seeing Cavallo in the bamboo forest, Cavallo had been quite successful at seducing Assente.
And it occurs to me that Assente is someone who can seem, and most importantly, feel a sense of superiority, which means that he has little chances to associate himself with people that may possess a lower position than himself, i.e. a priest who is the secretary of the state’s personal secretary.
Applauds goes to Cavallo.
How could he manage to get Congregation for the Clergy into having pizza dinner with him?
That’s amazing.
Before we go to another episode, I’d like to point out real quick that Cavallo, or his boss Voiello, is really good at monitoring everybody.
So when Cavallo was waiting for his employer before pope’s meeting, he was looking at his phone, a video probably, that a child singing “happy birthday to me”.
At that moment, I first thought, oh no, does Cavallo have a child and it’s his birthday today?
Then I realized that, it’s actually from the birthday party of Pius, Ester’s boy.
Ha, she’d not forgotten or abandoned, poor Ester.
Okay, next thing we know, Voiello’s hunch is right, Assente took his place very soon later.
And we see this famous scene.
That’s when Assente ordered the police to get rid of the boy living in the tool shed. And Cavallo came up, asking, “what’s it like to feel nothing?”
So what should Assente feel?
First, of course, human compassion, towards the refugee boy.
Assente’s obviously not feeling that.
He hates children and refugees. That’s the biggest flaw of this character. He’s even more vain and self-centered than Sir John, who claimed that he can only relate to the sufferings from those around him.
Cavallo told Assente Voiello’s attitude towards this situation (letting the boy live there) and he in contrary, doesn’t care.
And that comes the second point, Assente did feel something, that’s why he could be intimidated by Cavallo.
Hmmmmm, that something is rather dangerous.
So it all leads to
A question, is this their first kiss?
I really can’t tell.
Just a guess, I think it’s not, judged from Gut’s line “are you?”. But I don’t think they’re in a sweet relationship at this point either.
Assente is “still a little bit in love with Gut”.
He’s lonely, and hurt, and has this rage/sorrow that his love is not returned.
Gut would rather go for a “toyboy” than himself.
Jealousy is eating him up.
Remember when he saw Gut put his hand on Sir John’s shoulder while smoking in the rain.
Poor Assente.
Cavallo, though out of no good intention, became his hope and the source of warmth.
Hell, if I were Assente, I’d do exactly the same thing.
Assente, of course, still doesn’t see Cavallo as a proper lover. He must think he’s too good for this priest.
It’s just a fling, he thinks, it’s just a painkiller.
Well, Assente used Cavallo just as Cavallo used him.
What a toxic relationship!
Then we come to our final point today.
Okay, “unseemly somersault”
I really love the Chinese translation here. It literally translates “somersault”, which I suspect is 69.
My god, Cavallo would go this far to accomplish a mission for his master. Who wouldn’t want a right hand man like him.
So I’m afraid, during this scene, Cavallo shows no mercy or sympathy towards his ex lover.
Assente probably thought they had something.
But his not-that-surprised face shows that it’s possible that he won’t miss this relationship very much.
After all, if you’re in Vatican (not for sightseeing of course), you should be prepared for backstabbing.
Well, that’s it. We’re quite finished.
I’d really love to read some good fanfics to fill in those gaps that we were not shown. Like how Cavallo made his first attempt. How Assente reacted at the first place. What both of them would do after this unpleasant farewell.

Ahhhh you’re the best! I’m just so excited/surprised to find out there’s a fan fiction on Family Braun. I’ve rewatched the web series for like ten times this week. It’s amazing and your fic is just wonderful! I’m currently half way through it and I just can’t stop! Well, I may need a couple more hours to finish it since my German had sunk to the level of “Ich spreche kein Deutsch” long time ago.

Emmys Jarllan thoughts (with afterparty photos)
Now I almost can get over the fact that Jon Hamm gave out the best limited series award to Chernobyl. I just want to quickly get a few things out of my head. I’m not gonna use any tags since it’s just some rants that may not seem very appropriate for a broad audience
(Yeah, I'm talking about Jarllan. It’s gonna be very very very RPF from here so probably if you don’t like it. You shouldn't read it. Although I don’t really ship real people, just their characters. Just in case, if you have doubts, probably don’t proceed.)
Okay, first, Jon Hamm gave out the award ahhhhhhhhh and he hugged Jared ahhhhhh. It’s just, I can’t believe it!!! Like, did someone hear my wishes or see my stuff or what? Of all people to give out award to Jared/Stellan/Chernobyl, they chose Jon Hamm, who was literally the one and only non-Jarllan character I squeezed into those ideas. Yeah, I'm talking about shipping, girl! He’s the only character I put in between Jarllan. I mean Moran. I mean Moran/Moriarty.
I can’t tell you guys the ecstasy I'm feeling right now.
Okay, calm down, you’re a grown woman.
Now, some thoughts about tonight’s Jarllan.

Fact, including Emily, all three of them didn't win. It’s great that Chernobyl won best director/writer/best limited series. I guess those judges said, ah well, you can’t have all.
So clearly Jared and Stellan were bit disappointed. Well, they must be happy but not winning kinda sucks for anyone really.
We see Stellan pat Jared’s back before they got up and waited for the crew who were all sitting at the back.
They just stood there. Zero interaction. See for yourself.
They had literally no interaction with each other after they got up. And when they were about to get on the stage, we saw this
Jared and Stellan were keeping a distance. Or at least Stellan was trying to.
Again, I'm not shipping real people, I'm not implying anything, I just say what I see and maybe TJCL and shipping evenstan kinda messed up my head.
But, just see for yourself, Stellan found himself right after Jared. He could just step up and follow Jared to the stage right behind him. But he tried to put Johan between him and Jared. (from another perspective, Stellan is just this super modest Swede. When he and Johan were basically walking side by side, he’d want Johan to come before him. That’s why Johan realized this and they just held hands.)
On the stage, we saw this.
Jared was standing a bit far from Craig/Johan/Stellan at first. Then he slowly moved to Johan’s left.
You can really feel he’s very upset, just look at that face. Johan was hugging him and tightening the grip to cheer him up.
This just got me a bit sad.
For two co-stars in a show, I'd expect to see more interactions. But I understand why theirs just ceased after Stellan patting Jared’s back before they got up. If you realize someone’s upset, sometimes it’s best to leave him be.
Jared didn't return Stellan’s warm greetings. Before this, Stellan was all very focusing on Jared and even didn't acknowledge his own wife. I don’t know how to make gifs so again, go see the video. Megan first turned to her husband who then didn't turned back to greet her. Stellan was looking at Jared this whole time, didn't even look away. (Jared kissing his wife while the Skarsgard couple seemed not to even share a smile )
Then the patting.
After like 10th rewatch, just a shot in the dark, but I have this feeling that Stellan already knew Jared’s a bit upset after he didn't win, hence the patting on the back to comfort Jared.
But Jared was just very upset to greet him back. So Stellan just left him be.
Well, I don’t really have any conclusions at this point.
Congrats to Chernobyl team and Jared&Stellan. Y’all did great. Although the Emmy is not just any award, you’ve already won over the audience.
PS: I love the afterparty photos ahhhhhh I’m glad they stand together this whole time
(If we or I am being very presumptuous and all psychiatric now, I'd say Jared’s posture, clasping his hands before his stomach, is a very protective one. He's bit disappointed and sad and insecure and Stellan is invading his personal space. He’s all tensed up. Well, if there’s any conclusions, Jarllan is definitely not real. It just lives in my imagination and that’s good to me.)
Or is it?
I’d imagine Stellan came to Jared after the Emmy’s over and being all warm and supportive and now Jared seemed to overcome the upset feelings, these two buddies are just glued together.
