A photograph of a rural classroom in Viștea, Brașov County, Romania, taken at some point in the early 1940s. Maybe a mixed-age boys' natural sciences class?
No further information on reverse. From my personal collection.

"Souvenir - 1 Decem. 1913 / Alex. Al. Popescu Strejnicu / V Cl."
Alexandru Popescu-Strejnicu in the fifth grade, Ploiești, 1913
Pr. Alexandru Popescu-Strejnicu (1898–?) was an Orthodox priest who served as deacon of Catedrala Sf. Ioan Botezătorul in Ploiești, Romania between 1924 and 1937. After the Second World War, he was arrested as a political prisoner (for interwar membership in the National Peasants' Party) and imprisoned at Văcărești, later being transferred to a work colony at Capul Midia.
His biography was completely unknown to me until yesterday, when I acquired a collection of his personal and family photos — some others can be seen on my Flickr account.
