What makes a successful opposites attract relationship and characters?
Hi writers. I would like to hear from you all what makes an opposites attract main character duo to eventual relationship engaging to you guys not just as writers but readers, outside of simply balancing out eachother's weaknesses.
I am working on a project and would love some advice on making an eventual slow burn ship work between my two characters. Their completely different personalities will bring different perspectives to the worldbuilding and that their relationship will emerge once they learn to trust one another. I will put some more information below the 'read more' cutoff but would be grateful for any general tips and advice.
I'm still fleshing out the characters at the moment but I've written down their qualities and that of the story below. I believe this couple would benefit the story as the two learn to rely on one another and learn to understand eachother's way of thinking. It would also serve as an interesting dynamic.
Genre: Survival, Sci-Fi, Horror
Character A: Stoic, logical, somewhat distant, goal oreintated, protective, perfectionist
Character B: Empathetic, optimistic, tries to see the best in others, impulsive
Relationship benefits:
• B realises under A's stoic exterior he deepl cares about those around him, he is hesitant to express it
• B encourages a nihilistic A that he can make a positive difference in the world
• A helps to ground B when she gets stressed. B is the first to talk to A when he cracks under the pressure
Potiential Relationship Hurdles:
both characters have their own personal issues outside the relationship that impact not only their future partner and eventual relationship but their other friends and family. Characters will learn to grow from their issues
• A is uncomfortable emotional vulnerability seeing it as a weakness
• B is a people pleaser, she feels her achievements will never be that of the rest of her family
• A is often seen by others as distant or uncaring, this leads to him trying to make the 'logical decision' no matter how others feel.
• B often makes assumptions and reacts badly to any criticism or words she recieves

More information on the Po3 AU which I'll be calling Power of the Sun. The clans will be slightly different in this AU, I want to keep the culture the clans had in the old forest.
The Clans' Spirituality:
The clans keep some of their rituals from the old forest such as apprentices visiting the Moonpool before they become warriors.
Legends such as LionClan and TigerClan are still used in nursery tales. Places in the Old Forest such as Snakerocks have also become legend.
Most omens and messages from StarClan are found in the sky, some of the more superstitious cats believe that rain was the 'tears of StarClan'
Prophcies and omens are more talked about in general within a clan. However knowlege about other clan's prophcies are secret or discussed between medicine cats only. During the gathering when Hollyleaf announces her parentage she also announces the the prophcey she is part of.
Cats believe in the Place of No Stars (Dark Forest) for as long as they have believed in StarClan (Silverpelt). Clan cats have a great fear of becoming 'no stars' and honour StarClan to avoid being rejected from Silverpelt after death as well as carrying out purification rituals. A common insult is to threaten a cat to be pulled into the Place of No Stars. More troublesome cats may even make offerings to the Place of No Stars to bring misfortune onto another cat.
Clan Relations
Relations between the clans have changed after the Great Journey, it is more acceptible for cats to socialise with other clans during gatherings
A lot of border skirmishes as borders around the lake are being established.
Instead of a battle a cat from one clan can challenge one from another to a duel on behalf of their clan.
Clan Traditions/Structure
When making important decisions a leader would often consult an unofficial council (deputy, medicine cat, senior warriora, elders). Leaders may also travel to the MoonPool to seek advice from their ancestors
The clan is quite divided, there is a distinct group of "senior warriors" who remember the old forest and the first generation of cats who have no memory of it.
A leader may take over an apprentice's training if they want to prepare that cat for a future leadership position (e.g Firestar decides to co-mentor Hollypaw with Brackenfur to prepare her for the prophcey and to suceed him and Brambleclaw in leadership one day)
ThunderClan apprentices are encouraged to be honourable, a part of their apprenticeship is being able to recite the warrior code and how to appropiately thank StarClan before becoming warriors. They are also encouraged to be brave and fearless through competitions with their denmates

Power of Three AU where instead of fighting against the Dark Forest Hollyleaf turns against her brothers and allies with Sol.
Sol was SkyClan's ex-medicine cat and Echosong's apprentice who got exiled after he started influencing the clan through false omens. He travelled, training under Midnight and founded the Sun Troupe, a group of cats learning about prophcies and omens by travelling around different tribes and communities to understand different cats' ways of life.
He travels to the clans and manipulates ShadowClan. He starts to influence Hollypaw, a very impressionable ThunderClan apprentice (who is being mentored by Firestar himself in hope that she would suceed him one day).

PMD ocs!!
Mars
Mars is exiled from a noble family after evolving into a Gardeviour instead of Gallade. He was next in line to inherit his father's Galladite and since he can't use it he can't become their next leader. The Dusk Stone he wore since birth was sabotaged by his brother. His memory is damaged and he's struggling to adjust to the outside world.
Amber
Amber is a mercenary who set off on a quest to find a Lopbunnite to give it to her little sister, a Buneary so one day she would be able to defend their villiage from raiders.

Random Headcanon incoming!!:
So its never actually known how Thrushpelt dies, but...
We know that ThunderClan is always at war with RiverClan. During a battle on SunningRocks Thrushpelt has just chased away an apprentice and whirls around to meet the claws of another RiverClan cat.
His chest is sliced open and he collaspes to the ground, as the blood pools around him there's a faint memory. A grey tom-kit. The ThunderClan nursery. The last thing he sees is Stonekit- no, Stonefur, facing away, dissapearing into the distance as the noise of the battle and the river ebbs away.
