“When I was a kid, we were taught something at school about witnessing something unfair. It was that even being a bystander and watching - condoning - behaviour is just as bad as committing the act.” Dabi smiled, an ugly thing.
Tumblr media
“Their inaction is a crime.” Did he want to start a fight now? No, no, pros would be along soon.
He was going to be seeing that smile in his nightmares. Right alongside Shigaraki’s and the girl that really wanted to stab him. Why couldn’t villains have nice gentle smiles? Not the right time to be thinking about it.
“You think people deserve to suffer because the world isn’t fair?” At least he could understand this a little. The world isn’t fair and he could understand the anger someone could feel over it.
Tumblr media
“And you... Do you really, truly, believe this is how you fix that? That your methods will be justified when the dust settles?”

“Ah - so that’s it. You make up some scapegoates so you can justify your believes. What would a brat like you even know about the goals of villains? Money? Infamy?? Don’t make me laugh!”
As soon as the first lightnings crackled across Deku’s body, Shigaraki added another two fingers to the wall, narrowing his eyes in warning. “Don’t do anything stupid now.” He hissed, body tense until the hero in training calmed down again.
“You’re not changing the world. All you do is follow the herd. You’re just a cog in a machine fulfilling its function. Ever since the first quirks were discovered, there has never been a single incident were true change was accomplished for the better. Otherwise… –”
Tumblr media
“I wouldn’t be here now.”
Heart pounding with adrenaline from fear and rage Deku grit his teeth so hard his jaw began to ache. Listening to the villain was like nails on a chalkboard. This warped sense of thinking they knew everything about how heroes operate, that they saw everything so clear and everyone else was just wilfully blind.
It was a disgusting kind of arrogance and condescension that got under your skin and wormed its way into your brain.
“So you’re saying, its this world and the heroes fault you’re a villain? That they made you into who you are?...” Deku squinted, trying to understand, really trying to see the point the villain wanted to make.
He claimed heroes justified their beliefs with scapegoats but wasn’t he doing the exact same thing? Heroes are flawed so it doesn’t matter what I do to kill them? It doesn’t matter who gets hurt so long as I do what I think is right?? Its the heroes fault I do these awful things so I’m not to blame???
Tumblr media
What the fuck is wrong with this guy?
Cautiously Deku swallowed.
“Lets say... There are no heroes anymore. What then? What do you see the future as?”
Please. Please say something he can see some sense in.

It was almost a little worrying how much this first year admired All Might.  He should already know that no hero lasts forever, right? … How would Izuku react if All Might kicked the bucket?
… Anyway, that wasn’t really for Amajiki to be concerned about right now.  He lifted an arm halfheartedly to point at the ice cream stand.
“ It’s too hot out. .. I wanted something to cool off. ” In reality, it was little more than a mild day.  Even with the wool cardigan the teen wore, he couldn’t have been that warm.  Tamaki simply preferred the rain.
“ … They have really good Green Tea ice cream, so.. ”
“Oh I’ll have to try it sometime.” Smiling Deku stood there for a few seconds, content and comfortable until he realised his response didn’t really continue the conversation. This would probably a natural stopping point where they said their goodbyes and parted ways right?
“I, um, I hope you enjoy it. I’ll see you at school!” Awkwardly he gave a small wave and a polite head nod before turning on his heel and walking away. This was Tamaki senpai’s free time after all, it'd be rude to monopolise him and disturb his plans.
Despite reasoning himself out of it however, Deku felt his feet turn and sheepishly shuffle back to the older hero.
Tumblr media
“Actually... if it’s not too much trouble I’d really like to talk to you about some things please.”

“Oh, your naivety is almost cute.”
Tumblr media
He supposed expecting a UA student to see the comparison was a bit of a reach. They started the brainwashing early, especially in their child soldiers.
“What you’re told the heroes do and what they actually do are very different things. You’d be amazed what crimes you’ll be allowed to get away with once they give you that shiny license.”
Deku’s glare hardened at the response. He knew it was all just a mind game. Even if Dabi’s words held any truth, just entertaining the idea that a villain's words were true and casting doubt on heroes was a win for them.
“And that’s how you tell yourself you’re in the right. Because good and evil isn’t black and white?”
Tumblr media
"What about the people who aren’t heroes that live in fear for their families and lives everyday because of villains? Are they guilty of something?”
They couldn’t have been talking for more than a minute but every second felt like a century. Someone please notice his absence soon.

He watched Midoriya for a few moments, getting completely worked up again. Sometimes it was simply too easy but for once Tomura wanted him to LISTEN and be aware of what he had to say. The threat that had followed was only read between the lines. Yet it was a threat nonetheless.
“I told you the last time we met - that I have decided to kill you.      Yet you continue to try and stay in my way. Just tell me – “
Tumblr media
“Just what does being a hero exactly mean to you? Is it worth putting your mother’s life at risk?” One of his hands came slipping out of his pockets as he tapped his pointer finger against the wall, gaze directed at the street lamp on the side of the house. A single moth was fluttering around the light bulb, trying desperately to get to the source of the light.
“Because just as much as you don’t understand me,    I can’t understand you and your warped sense of justice.”
Deku blinked despite the tension. The question caught him off guard and he briefly wondered what disturbing mind game would be instigated from the answer he gave. He didn’t wonder long mind you, not wanting to test the villain’s patience and answered as calmly and clearly as his voice could manage.
“Being a hero means giving hope. Hope for those who have found none in a world that is unfair. To be...” He swallowed and took a deep breath.
“My mother... could die tomorrow because of you and you wouldn’t have even known she existed. You, or some other villain. When she’s shopping in the city or sleeping or just living her life like she is this very second. Like so many others living peaceful lives and doing their best to live together. Like the people whose lives have already been lost. Taken by villains who don’t blink twice at killing and hurting others to further their goals!”
His voice was raising as a crackle of energy ran through him.
Tumblr media
“Because the world is already cruel and villains choose to increase that cruelty for money or infamy or, or- or because they think its all some stupid game?!”
Deku caught himself yelling, breathing hard and squeezing his fists in rage. Even now, Shigaraki was using his mother’s life like a pawn as though her life was nothing more than that. It was so infuriating but this was not a time to fight. He needed to calm down and after several shaky inhales the sparks of energy faded from his body.
“Being a hero, to me, means changing the world for the better.“

The nerve of this kid was astounding, but then the pro heroes had a tendency to beat the sense out of kids, didn’t they? It wasn’t a surprise, not really. This kind of foolhardy behaviour was rewarded. Like training dogs, the kids were taught that self-sacrifice was good.
“Canon-fodder. Padding, for the bigger fights.” He took a step closer, one hand in his pocket as though Deku posed no threat to him.
Tumblr media
“Kind of how the heroes treat you kids, right?”
Deku’s foot slid back, fists balling and a prepared stance taken at Dabi’s approach. He couldn’t fight but he was ready to retreat if things escalated. For now he’d do his best not to let himself be goaded by the villain’s twisted logic.
“Wrong. Hero’s do their utmost to reduce the number of casualties and collateral damage. They don’t abandon their team mates either.”
Tumblr media
“Or call another person’s life ‘canon-fodder’....How could you possibly think it’s the same? “ He couldn’t understand villains who justified their actions like this.

“You were kind of spaced out today. Are you feeling ok?”
The question is posed alongside the offer of a soda can and a concerned expression. Deku had tried to ignore his worry throughout the day to respect his friend’s privacy but having found himself unable to sleep with it plaguing his mind, sought him out in the cool night air.
Tumblr media
“You don’t have to tell me but... I’m here if you do.”

To be recognised and called out to on his day off… a nightmare.  Amajiki never cared for his appearance, so usually his dark-coloured pants and woollen jumpers went unnoticed.  Apparently he was having an unlucky day.  He was just thankful the familiar voice was that of someone tolerable.
“ .. Midoriya, hey.  … Are you stocking up for an apocalypse or something? ”
“Eh? O-OH! RIGHT.NO.UM-!”
Tumblr media
“I was just making up for lost time! Ha,ha...”
Yeeeeah probably should have thought about his current appearance before calling out. Its not like people in school didn’t know he was an All Might fan nor did he try to hide it but even he could tell this looked excessive.
Bashfully manoeuvring the mass of bags to one hand he rubbed the back of his neck and frantically searched for a change in topic.
“S-So what brings you to this part of the city senpai?! Are you shopping or..?”

Shigaraki remained silent for a few moments, thinking. His gaze was set on the window of the living room. He had seen a woman pass it a few times - clearly the little hero’s mother. From here on out, Shigaraki was setting the game, deciding the rules and giving out the cards. Who would have thought that U.A would be so careless with their data..
“Oh? … But your mother went through all the trouble to prepare dinner.                       You wouldn’t want to be late.”
Tumblr media
No way he would give this brat any peace of mind. The closer they were to his house,  the more docile he was going to be. Using his quirk so close by was dangerous, after all.
“She has been staring at the clock every ten minutes –    you sure make her worry a lot, don’t you? I’m going to keep this short anyway.”
He motioned for Deku to follow as he simply walked to the side of the house, a narrow dark spot between the neighboring buildings with only bedroom windows pointing towards them. The kitchen was right behind the wall Shigaraki was leaned against.
Hearing the villain talk about his mother so casually made him feel sick. A heavy cold weight in the stomach and lodged clump of heat in his throat kind of sick. Just like before Shigaraki held all the control and with a squeeze of his fists Deku obediently followed.
The young hero physically tensed as the villain rested against the wall, a deep feeling of dread and rage swelling up he had to strain to keep down.So much was racing through his mind and he needed a level head.
If the league of Villains had his home address then how many other students did they have? Were his classmates in the same position he was right now? Would a hero notice someone else’s home and make the connection?
He was sweating despite the cold night air. His gaze fixed on the hands in Shigaraki’s pockets.

How annoying.
Tumblr media
They’d been nothing. Worthless pawns in a grand plan that he didn’t care to know all the details of. But their little gang had just been recruited and they’d been caught by fucking students.
He hadn’t expected the irritated sigh to be heard, but Deku turned and Dabi weighed up his options. After a good 10 count, when Deku started to turn back around, he decided that Bakugo was far enough away for a little chat.
“Couldn’t resist showing off, hm?”
Dismissing the noise as his imagination Deku made a note to get some proper sleep tonight. A thought that was interrupted by the raspy voice and the taunting question it posed.
Snapping back around Deku frantically scanned for where the voice originated from. A voice he recognised from the night Bakugo had been taken.
“While performance for the sake of entertainment is a factor in the execution of a villain's capture, to ease the fears of the public and gain popularity, it’s not what happened here.”
Tumblr media
He couldn’t take this threat level alone but if he stalled for long enough Kaa-chan or Todoroki would come looking.
“Is the League of Villains recruiting petty thieves and arsonists for their plans now?”

He had his hands in his pockets, looking over towards the building. Tomura did not really expect to run into the brat himself but he wasn’t bothered by it either. It was in the middle of the night and if he wanted, he could just turn this friendly neighborhood into dust - the kid was probably aware.
“I went on a walk and decided to check on the                           —  place of All Might’s biggest fan.”
This wasn’t fair. It was never fair with villains but this was another level of unfair. His mother was inside, folding laundry or making tea completely oblivious to the immediate danger she was in. That they all were in.
Taking a steady breath Deku’s gaze flicked around the villain searching for others but saw none. Shigaraki was alone.
“Is this another ‘friendly’ chat?” Last time the villain said their next meeting would be terminal, but given how he treated this all as a game it wouldn’t be surprising if he changed his tactics at the drop of a dime. Unpredictable villains were the most dangerous.
“Not here.” There was a park near here he played with the other neighbourhood kids in years ago. At this time of night it would be deserted. Less likely for someone to hear them and look out their window curious.
“Please.”
Tumblr media
Begging felt wrong but he’d sooner lose his head to a psychopath than lose his mother to pride.

It was rare Deku had a day off training, even rarer his friends were all busy at the same time. What started as a simple stroll into town evolved into catching up with all the new trends and hero merchandise in stores.
So here he was, laden with bags upon bags of the latest All Might collectables when he saw a familiar face making themselves as invisible as possible in line for a Mt.Lady ice-cream cone.
“Good afternoon Tamaki senpai!”

“West side secured, the villains have been neutralised and we’re bringing them in now for-AAAAH! KAA-CHAN YOU CAN’T JUST THROW THEM LIKE THAT?!”
Being told to fuck off Deku held in a sigh and hung back for a moment, deciding it best to let Bakugo bring the criminals to the police and give him a little space. Once he was out of earshot Deku let the breath out and began to follow but paused.
“...Hello?”
Tumblr media
Was he hearing things?
