Missing (2023)
Tumblr media
Have you watched Searching (2018)? Directed by the same director, this one is an anthology series with the same premise but offers a different and more complex story.
June Allen is looking for her missing mom, Grace Allen, then turns out along the investigation, some new findings lead her (and us) to different suspects, points, and conclusions.
The writing is undoubtedly genius. As a mystery and thriller movie enthusiast, I can say that this one is really hard to predict. The ending is the only key that unlocked what’s truly going on.
Well, I will definitely recommend this to all fellas who’s looking for a mystery movie. If you guys have any plans to watch, happy guessing! 😉📺

Women Talking (2022)
dir. Sarah Polley
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As in the title, we can say, the film presents the story of women talking in a discussion forum, weighing their actions in order to have a better worth-living life. Whether it is by staying or leaving.
Here are couple of things I try to highlight from this film:
The plot is simple. The set is mostly taken in one place, but I didn’t find the film boring at all. In less then two hours there’s no wasteful scene, there’s no plot hole either. Every scene tells something useful about the story ✨
The conflict is clear: sexual assault. Attackers (men) keep coming like a nightmare for the women. It's not easy for women — who live in the religious community — to be brave. And somehow in this story they did. That's what made the film has a powerful story, and thanks to Miriam Toews for writing the book so this film exists 🫶🏼
Rooney Mara in blonde is something. Her character, Ona, is very calm and wise. How she thinks and speaks her mind is so admirable 👱🏻‍♀️
Claire Foy's acting is so excellent. The anger is sensibly raging, the tense she created makes the film's turbulence feel real.
Well, to be fair, all of the cast deserve a clap for the role they brought very well 👏
The shooting technique was a well-done job. The details and the landscape portrayed in a good picture make this film even more cinematic and interesting 🎥
And the dialogues, they are genius. Like they were being stitched carefully word by word. I think this is why I didn't feel bored at all while watching this film.
I love to listen to what they're saying because every word matters. Like a speech or a debate, some good quotes were coming out and, of course, there were interruptions that made the chit chat so alive 🌱
Don’t forget about the costume. It is exactly the most iconic part of this film. Even if the story’s events took place in the present time, due to the isolated life they have from modern civilization, the dress they wore looks so classic in black and other dark colors with one typical form, and I found it beautiful.
Lastly, even if the rating is good, I don't hear much about this film. I think this film is so underrated (among all of Oscars' Best Picture nominees) and more people need to know how awesome this film is. I call it: the real cinema 🎞️
“Does entering the kingdom of heaven mean nothing to any of you?”
“Surely there must be something worth living for in this life, not only in the next.”

Boo, Bitch (2022)
Tumblr media
Just watched Boo, Bitch and I think this is one of the crunchiest TV mini series I've ever watched. Want to know why? Here's the highlights:
It is a teenage drama series but it's much more than romance, mean girls, and other highschool typical movie stuff.
The concept of the story is out of the cube and fresh. How could a ghost has a body and people can see it? 🤔
The twist is really mind-blowing, and after it revealed you will start to wonder why you didn't realize it all this time 🤯
Gia is really a best friend material. Moreover, her character is so cool. Zoe Colleti makes a perfect cast for the role. She lights up the cheer and chill vibe of this series 🤙
I like the kind of friendship between Gia and Erika. It is fun to have a friend that grow up together, share the same slang terms and make the conversation hits different 💥
The writing is genius. The crew, the cast, the cinematic, etc. are all good 👊
I also like when they named almost all of the boys' character by Jake. I mean, in real life, it is very possible to have classmates that their first name is just like yours.
The drama queen, Riley, is also quite lovely. I don't know, maybe because she's not that bitch bad, or because the protagonist herself had done something more bitch terrible, kind of 🧐
Last, the ending that made me cry a pool couldn't help me to not to captured how wholesome this series was through this review post 🤧

Only Murders in The Building (2021-now)
Tumblr media
This series is a genius fun-comedy-mystery!
I have to admit that the begining of the first season is kind of flop; long-winded plot with nothing to show. But if you keep watching, you'll get into the hidden exitement point in predicting the murderer of Tim Kono.
For me, it's start from the fourth episode. I really enjoy the series after the Tye-Dye guy appears. It is certain and will always be the best part of a mystery story when one by one of the suspects comes and leaves.
I'm on the second season now and it all goes swift. But at the fourth episode of this season, the dynamic is less. I thought the plot will be the same but turns out it's not. The suspects is drifting away, no certain clue until the ninth episode.
But you know what? The last episode of the second season is nailed! The murderer is completely unpredictable. So even if the investigation development in the midst of the season seems like going nowhere, I still quite love this series. The ending pays it off.

One for the Road (2021)
A phrase - final drink before leaving for home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a heartwarming and extraordinary film! GDH is back working on a successful film that presents an interesting story. This time tells the journey of two friends in order to realize one’s last wish.
As the title suggests, there are many drinks featured in this film and each one has a deep personal philosophical meaning. The back and forth plot that runs fast makes this film serve a compact and rich story.
Not to mention, the shooting techniques explore various unique angles. The cinematography of Thailand's urban landscapes and causeways, nevertheless, does not miss to intensify the aesthetics of this film.
The dialogues presented are also very good with a little humor and meaning that is easy to interpret. The bromance between the two protagonists makes this film feel more fluid and less boring.
Should be noted, Natara Nopparatayapon really deserves appreciation for his totality in playing Aood, who has to explore the character of a sick person, and also, his effort to gain such a very thin body 🙌
I thought, this film is supposed to be very sad, like the other story of someone with a disease that doesn't have a long life. But, seems that it is not something that the director wants to be highlighted in this film.
Nattawut Poonpiriya packs this film with a presentation of an interesting journey and a past-memory trip that is full of emotional turmoil. The farewell between these two friends is also presented metaphorically in the closing scene.
With a slow rhythm, easy tone, and deep lyrics, Nobody Knows becomes the perfect soundtrack to accompany the closing scene and add a touch of emotion at the end of the film.
What a time,
what a time,
what a time to be alive 🎶
I think this movie is going to be my favorite thai movie of all time. What about you?

Comparing the Multiverse Story between Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Everything Everywhere All at Once
s c r o l l t o r e a d 👇
THE VERSE-JUMP
For Marvel fans, you must be already familiar with the multiverse concept in the MCU, where the verse-jump can be done by moving our body from one to another through Teleportation. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we are also acknowledged with Dreamwalking, the dark magic power that enables us to hijack the state of mind of our variant/doppelgänger in the other universe and control everything from our current universe. The verse-jump itself is done by the uncontrollably superpower of a girl named America and triggered by the fear she felt.
While in the Everything Everywhere All at Once, the verse-jump is supported by the technology that was found by people of Alpha-verse, the first and origin universe before all the branches were created. The technology enable us to do something like Dreamwalking, hijacking the consciousness of our others, and it is also possible for us to keep switching the state of mind until we find the right doppelgänger that we want. The trigger to do the verse-jump is by doing anything that is weird, then press the green button in the tools of the technology.
THE DOPPLEGÄNGER
By focusing it on the main character, it is shown in the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that variants of Stephen Strange always be Doctor Strange with the similar capabilities in all the universes he's entered. But only, the paths aren't always the same, which leads to the different fate of each variant of him in the other universes.
While in the Everything Everywhere All at Once, Evelyn Wang is shown having variated expertise and occupation in almost all the universes she's experiencing. It's known that the branches were created due to every different life decision someone takes. That's why in different universes, she might not be a laundrette owner as she is in her natural universe.
THE UNIVERSES
It's never really mentioned in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness about how the branches were created. But if we refer to the Loki series, the multiverse already exists naturally, and the timeline of each could make a new branch of the universe if someone makes a change in the past or future timeline.
In the Everything Everywhere All at Once, it explains clearly about how the branches were created as I mentioned earlier; any different possibilities of life decisions. Besides that, the movie also showed the cause of some branches creation that gives us a lucid perspective to understand the whole story.
--
So, after peeling these films, we can say that there are differences in the concept of multiverse creation that lead us to another different approach and story. Both have their own way to wrap the 'multiverse' in delicious and signature taste; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its mystical and high-tension, and Everything Everywhere All at Once with its absurdist and complexity.

Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can you imagine if you're experiencing everything, everywhere, of all versions of you, at the same time? I know, the multiverse story in this movie is really achieving its highest level of madness.
Besides the neat editing and pleasant cinematography, this is truly the coolest Michelle Yeoh's acting I've ever seen. Not only she, the other characters' acting is also on point.
Even if it runs in an absurdist way, the family's drama doesn't fail to touch. Just like the title, all at once, makes this movie full of action and emotion that you'll find in a sit of watch.

"I am The Vengeance"
Robert Pattinson shows a pityful orphan-man in sincerity and silence, who's tired of the dark side of Gotham city that keeps many secrets, including the reality of his parents.
I have never watched other Batman movies yet, but I really enjoy the mystery game they played.
Bruce Wayne really is the miserable rich-heir. Rob showed the natural emotion and brought the movie to the right dose of what a crime mystery film should be like, how the character should be act.
🚶‍♀️on my way to watch The Dark Knight series.

Every time I watch a movie, the story is always going to be the most important thing. "What's the main character's goals?", "What's the movie trying to tell?", "Is everything connected?", "Is the message well-explained?".
Other things like film editing, sound, costume, etc., are just amusement, plus points that make the movie better. But the script writing, it is like the heart of a film that once it fails, even the coolest edits can't redeem.

Till We Meet Again (2021)
A critic review.
Tumblr media
source: mydramalist.com
Have you heard about this newest Giddens Ko's movie? Bringing the genre of fantasy, comedy, and romance together make this film looks interesting to watch. But, in the middle of the hype, I want to share some critics that might be useful to manage your expectation.
Generally, the movie tells the journey of Ah-Lun’s afterlife, where he meets a pink-haired girl who both work on duty as the God of Love to tie a love string from a person to another. This movie brings together the Chinese's mythology like reincarnation as the key topic of the story.
The color grading and cinematography is clearly nifty, so fantasy. But there’s some parts such as fighting scenes that are intentionally not shown vividly, covered up by the dark lighting and ornament wreckage that somehow distract the audience’s viewpoint.
In terms of story, I really enjoy the part of how it starts and how it ends. But, that's it. The cute yet pathetic love story of Ah-Lun and Xiao Mi, his in-life girlfriend, which takes the most proportion of the movie is not really the official poster representative 😔
We also need the story of Pinky, to be fair. Seeing things from her perspectives and flashback memories. Pinky's scene that is less than Xiao Mi grows a question in my head; is it the poster that should’ve been changed, or the storyline that has to be more elaborate?
However, the movie is still good from the fresh concept and the appealing visual, but I think there are lots of things that the director wants to include in this story, and 128 minutes is not enough to sum it all up in a compact and suitable movie plot.

Death on The Nile (2022)
Tumblr media
Hercule Poirot’s journey in solving a murder mystery still continues. This time take a set in Egypt with a case that is more seasoned with romance spices. I thought the main conflict was about a basic affair, but then turns out that it’s way more complicated.
When I about to watch this film, I have already lower my expectation due to so many negative reviews about the film that compare it to the unpredictable and exceptional predecessor, Murder on the Orient Express, by the same director.
It's not a bad idea either. In the end, I was amazed by the film--about how the storyline makes us revolve in the death mystery inside the S. S. Karnak. The drama capacity that is more than the previous one makes this film less stressful.
Just like when in the orient express, the interrogation scenes are the most exciting parts, where every suspects’ cards are one by one revealed that they have a potential motive to be the murderer, but also have a strong alibi to cover.
Sadly, the visual effect that is noticeable reduces the natural portrayal of the film. If only the CGI is well-concepted with a proper budget and professional team, the film will also be equipped by the beautiful cinematography of the ancient Egyptian landscape.
Besides that, the lack of grief emotion shown by the characters make the death case means less. More, the boat’s passengers are all family and friends of the victim that should have to feel a bit of sympathy and vigilant of the murder case that happened.
But, overall, I like this sequel. Even if the mystery vibe isn't that intense, the story they served is still delicate to taste. They made the culprit readable, but also gave us the attractive drama to be distracted for at least until Poirot announces the final analysis of the case.
A little advice from me before you watch this film; just enjoy the show without thinking too hard to find the murderer first. It will ruin the whole drama plot that has been arranged in such a way to affix the punchline in the end of the story.
That's all I want to say. Before I end this review, not to forget mentioning Emma Mackey's appearance that is so gorgeous. I mean, look at her.
Tumblr media
I can’t even get over how she succeeded in balancing Gal Gadot’s stunning performance in this film 👗💄✨

FRESH (2022)
Tumblr media
Wondering you spent your entire life waiting for a white-horse prince and once you find him, you discover a fact that he has an unusual appetite that could endanger your life. Dreadful, right? Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan, this newly released movie succeeded in attracting people by the scene clip of their blank-stare dancing.
Tumblr media
What I underline from this movie are mostly about the concept, storyline, and the characters that are genuine and strong. Not gonna lie, the concept is just as fresh as the title. With the Comedy-Thriller as its official genre, the movie that also served a piece of romantical story between its leads makes the attractiveness increased.
The genre's proportion is convenient and well-blended. Unlike the forced comedy, or excessive thriller, or clingy love story. This is what makes the storyline of the movie catchy to watch. I admit that Mimi Cave and the team have done a great job in creating this movie with precise deliberation and set up.
For me, the thriller in this movie isn’t too gore. This movie does not directly show scenes of body organs cutting or something with a lot of blood, but more to the concept approach that explains "psycho" behavior to the audience, such as "I cutted her finger", instead of showing that finger cutting scene.
Daisy’s really good acting makes us feel the fear that Noa felt when dealing with Steve. Other than that, Sebastian who played Steve, the psycho character with a coveted and humorous personality, is really expressive in playing his role nicely. Not only the lead characters, but the supporting characters are also good at handling their job.
That's all my review about this movie. If you haven't watch it, I highly recommended this to be listed in your twenty twenty-two movie to watch. Happy watching! 😉🎬

OSCARS 2022: Best Picture Nominees Mini Reviews
The Oscars is about to come. As the most awaited event, the Best Picture category never lagged behind in being the most anticipated of all. There are ten films that are nominated in this category at the 94th Academy Awards.
To sum up, here’s the mini reviews that will help you choose what movie to wrap. Don't worry! It won't take too long. I stitched it as simply as it can without any spoiler so you can make it fast. Ready?
Tumblr media
1. Don't Look Up
I love how they put sci-fi together with politics and tech business in welcoming the fall of Dibiasky Comet. How could a disaster story feel more irritating than scary?
The satire is legit and fresh, moreover, it's related to how the regime rules and ignores everything for their personal intention—that most times out of our reach.
Nothing's wrong in putting a lot of superstars in the same movie. Even if this movie does not have a good review on most sites, the storyline is still understandable, light, and gratifying to follow.
2. CODA
If you're looking for a less-drama movie with a clear and neat plot that makes the audience know what the movie is all about, I think you must watch CODA.
As a child of deaf adults, Ruby shows the struggle in being someone with a blessed talent that can't be enjoyed by her family, which is so dilemmatic in the depiction.
I think the movie is all-in-package. There are fun, sad, and at the end, we know, everything about family seems mellow and touched. Plus, the chemical bond they have feels so real. Just make sure you have your tissues before the streaming tears precede.
3. The Power of The Dog
The conflict served in an elegant way and most of it shows in concise dialogues with simple actions. Phil Burbank as the main character is described as a woeful antagonist with his loneliness and cruelty.
The plot that walks slowly looks like it wants to stick us in the well-prepared vintage scenery with the psychological approach that are kept in certain scenes of the movie.
This movie has a very implicit message that you might not find in one shot watching. It's truly hidden behind the incredible writing of its writer, and I was impressed that it executed well.
4. Nightmare Alley
A psychological thriller with a tragic story is really an irony that makes you want to skip the rest of it. Want to play with your heartbeat? Nightmare Alley is as if really made for it.
The journey of Stanton in burying his past life in a carnival that changes his life, guarantees a brighter future with his new honed skill, is interesting yet thrilling to watch.
The story is long but the plot is quite neat. The dark cinematography of the movie keeps us wondering what Stan's life is going to be in his next "promising" journey.
5. West Side Story
The conflict between Puerto Rican and American white gangster in New York City showed in a pleasant way. The dancing and the singing performed in the movie is really appealing.
The plot, the music, the scene of the movie looks more like a theater performance, things happen and go in a fast transition of emotions and background.
If you like to watch movies for entertainment, I think this exhilarating movie is good to go. The background sound wins the battle against the mess. I also call it enjoyable-chaos cinematic, where the pain still manages to look pretty.
6. Belfast
Belfast is really just a simple and warm historical story of the city back in the 60's. The black and white effect makes the movie feel more real and suit the time background.
The intrigue between Protestant and Catholic in Belfast served good on the table. The simple jokes that took part in some scenes are really amusing, one of the best parts for me.
The story centralizes in a lovely boy, Buddy, with his childhood events in the city where everyone knows each other, but the chaotic situation makes his family plan to leave for a better living.
7. Licorice Pizza
Don't ever expect any pizza in the movie. It's just a philosophical name that resembles a vinyl record that evokes childhood memories of California back in the 70’s. Damn! I spoiled it.
This movie serves a controversial love story with a huge gap year between the two protagonists. But don't worry! The perky vintage plot makes the story tell more than that 'romance thing' only.
This is not really my type of movie, but the journey and everything they've been through is actually enjoyable to watch. I love to see the characters' bond development from the start to the end of the story.
8. King Richard
This is a based-on-true-story movie adaptation in tennis sport civilization, Venus and Serena Williams. I think Will Smith succeeded in making the audience get pissed off of a stubborn and super ambitious father, Richard Williams.
I really love the emotional turmoil that served in an exact composition with the context. It keeps making us–who never know about their story, get curious about what would happen next.
Although I don’t like some parts of the events and the characters–the part from the true story that I think is not worth emulating, the exciting plot that drives this whole movie is really a masterpiece.
9. Dune
I don’t really know how to write a review of an unfinished movie, but I think the movie tells a fresh story that makes the sequel worth the wait.
The visual effect and cinematography is without a doubt. All good and fascinating, perfect to pamper the eyes with a storyline that feels very new.
The plot that runs so slow makes it a little tiring, but I think it was intentional so the audience doesn't need to feel rushed to understand the whole thing and gives them enough space to digest while enjoying the wondrous scenery.
10. Drive My Car
Another one more slow plot story, Drive My Car, a drama-road movie full of philosophical action and conversation typical Japanese literature that is appealing and pacifying to watch.
The relationship between Kafuku-san, an aging widowed actor, with a 20-year-old girl who acts as his chauffeur during the theater rehearsal is the main point that this movie tries to tell.
The theater rehearsal is actually my favorite part, where there comes new characters and the simple conflicts that somehow just help break the lonely tone inside the screen.
That’s all about the mini reviews. I have my most and least favorites of course, but I tried to keep the list neutral. I hope it could be your best guide to watch those nominees, and whoever wins, I know it’s the one who deserves.
I believe that good or bad a movie is based on the personal experience of those who watch. It can’t be generalized, specifically, when everybody has their own type of movie.
Want to hear some advice? Never use a movie rating as a shortcut parameter for your watching decision, or you might not find your own hidden stones that someday you’ll call them “my movies” for no reason.
The 94th Academy Awards will air Sunday, March 27. See you in the next reviews 👋
