Hi Rina! I'm planning to apply for Ewha for the Spring Admissions and I was wondering if you knew any Australian student's studying at Ewha as a full time undergrad? I'm not sure on how to present my school reports because of our different system.. if not, My grades come in a booklet covering the classes i did in the semester, is it appropriate to send like 12 booklets in the mail..? I probs sound really dumb rn but thank you so much for making this blog tbh! it's helped out so much on apps!
I don’t know any Australian undergrads who arent Korean born & therefore go via the Korean System, so unfortunately I can’t help you with that part, I’m really sorry! I think sending that much material is a little much admin work for the department on one person, and would cost a lot for you to send. Maybe see if there’s some way you can narrow it down into a smaller document, or contact the admissions office separately to ask! Hope that helps! - Rina (영국여자/ Me&MySeoul) 🖤

Update on Life 🖤
So for some updates;
I’m currently in my fourth semester at ewha and it’s quite literally kicking my ass. I’ve never been this exhausted from classes and I know it’s only going to get harder and harder as I enter junior and senior year.
I’m considering ALL options in regards to graduation. If you ask, my simple answer is this; I don’t know as of yet. I would LOVE to do graduate school but if I did, it probably wouldn’t be at ewha if I’m honest with you guys. The schooling is great but it’s too costly for me, who will have to pay 100% of the graduate school costs alone...so I don’t know what’s gonna happen in two years time.
I met some amazing new people this year, and lost some not so amazing others. By that I mean, yes, you’ve guessed it, I broke up with my girlfriend. Whoop whoop here comes the awkward train 🚂
No, but really, it’s all good, and frankly it was my decision and it put me in a much better place. I appreciate the four months I spent with her, and knowing her for those six months was not a waste of my life at all, I completely stand behind that. But it’s off to better horizons in different directions for both of us now. So now if you’re curious, yes, I am in fact single again lmao (we’ll see how long that lasts this time guys)
As for my korean level...has it improved? I would say yes, but only slightly. I’m level three now according to the ewha system but I’ve been stuck there for almost a year now because I don’t have any time to study. I pushed myself all the way here but I’m still not doing enough, so I plan to work ten times harder because I should be fluent by now honestly.
Anyways, that was a little life update for you guys. I probably won’t post much this semester, I will try but it’s not gonna be amazing content like in my first year here (that wasn’t that amazing anyways lmao).
Anyways, until next time, 나중에 봐요~

Just an update guys on this post!:
Angel In Us and The Bridge no longer exist in 이대, they both shut down (with much sadness for the bridge)
I go back on my word about beansbin, I now officially hate it lol
Cafe Pera & Solid Works are still my ultimates, but I also highly recommend Holly’s Coffee, Coffee Bin, Gommi Cafe, The Coffee Shop Above ECC in Ewha, Cozy Caphe (created and ran by an ewha student) & Paek’s (an incredibly cheap coffee stand that I love)
I think I will make a more updated version of this sometime since I’ve been here almost two years now and my tastes have definitely changed in regards to the best restaurants, and coffee shops in the area!
~ The Top 5 Best Coffee Shops In Edae ( 이대) ~
Hi, hi! 여러분 안녕하세요~
My best friend back home actually told me she might be coming here in the next year, and wanted to know what restaurants are available around the 이대 area. As some of you may know, I’ve already written a post on this, so I told her to go look at it. After this, she said she was curious about coffee shops in 이대 that I liked and visited often. So I decided to make this post. Here is my top five coffee shops of 이대.
1) The Bridge Cafe
Tumblr media
I first went to this place with my close friend sayaka. This was right after we went to the Italian restaurant Buono ( in my last post). We wanted coffee on a cold autumn night, and we didn’t want to go home yet. This coffee shop sits on the second storey, right next door to the Italian restaurant.
The coffee shop is set up so that when you walk inside you have a bar table where the owner and his part-timer chill behind and make the drinks and desserts. The shop is set up into little seperated rooms, where you can sit on the floor, on a couch or chairs. The shop serves mostly different coffees and teas, but also has smoothies, soft drinks and alcohol like beer or sangria. The desserts are mostly waffles with a scoop of ice cream, and cakes like a gateau, rainbow cake or a Mille crepe. But I don’t recommend the desserts, they’re not very good. But I would continue going here with my best friend, Judy, and sayaka for many, many times as our chill out spot or study spot due to the private and nice atmosphere and how quiet it is. It’s perfect for close friends and couples, you can spend as long as you want there, it’s cosy and the drinks are pretty cheap ranging from $3-$5.
Tumblr media
2) Angel-In-Us
Tumblr media
This coffee shop is directly across from the main gate, as you can see from the picture above, and it is pretty well known by exchange students. Why? Because once you get the wifi from here, you can use it in 이대 for miles ( ㅋㅋㅋㅋ)
This coffee shop is on the second and third floor of this building, with a Chinese bubble tea and an Auntie Ans Pretzel Shop below. It has two people seats on the first floor with a bar to order at, and a table with stools against the window. Up the stairs are more seats, where it is easier to study at with friends or by yourself, as this is a quiet study area. You will also find both toilets up the stairs.
The drinks are kinda pricey, with a regular ice tea costing $5, so I don’t usually go here. But the ice tea is pretty good, and it’s a good place to do your language exchange or tutoring work at. They also serve sandwiches, salads, and sweet Asian style French toast. But I do love there gingerbread & toffee winter seasonal frappe~
Tumblr media
3) BeansBin Cafe
Tumblr media
This cafe is situated directly underneath the philstay I stayed at when I first arrived in Korea, so it’s kinda nostalgic. It’s two stories above the Korean braised chicken restaurant, one storey above street level.
They are a brand cafe, just like Angel-In-Us, but has a small and warm feel to the place. There are booths, chairs and couches to sit at with your loved one or your friends, and due to it being right next to ewha, many girls study here due to the cheaper coffee than Angel-In-Us. The coffee and tea’s are around $4 and they have varied specialty drinks. They are most famous for their waffles with fruit and cream, with half being $5 and a full around $10, and you usually shared one between two or three people. They also serve 빙수, a Korean shaved ice with ice cream and fruit, in the summer. There is a 10% discount for this BeansBin when you stay in the Philstay up the stairs.
Tumblr media
4) Cafe Pera
Tumblr media
Cafe Pera is a themed cafe situated on the right by the main gate, in a alley way behind the famous ewha flower wall. It is situated on the top floor of the building and next to the IVY Goshiwon that many ewha exchange students stay in. This coffee shop is a Victorian Alice In Wonderland style cafe. The cafe has seats for two or more people and a bar to order at, with a variety of full sized cakes which are cut into slices when ordered. The drinks are stereotypical coffee and tea, with high prices due to the theme. The drinks vary between $4-$7
The cakes from here are absolutely amazing and that’s why I added this into my list. If it wasn’t for the cake and the view of ewha during the good weather, I wouldn’t have included this in the list. During the hot weather, it is the perfect cafe to go to the terrace with a slice of fruity cake and an ice tea.
Tumblr media
5) Solid Works
Tumblr media
What can I say about this place? This coffee shop is so underrated in so many ways. Firstly, not many foreigners know about this place as the couple that runs the place don’t speak amazing English. Plus the shop is actually in a back alley, behind the Étude House in 이대. This is famous within the ewha Korean students, and it has amazing ice cream. The ice tea and vanilla latte here are cheap as a large one is $3.50-$4 and it’s really good, not too sugary like the brand shops like Holly’s Coffee is in Korea.
The ice cream here is unique, delicious and cheap, with three huge scoops around $4. I highly recommend this place, its aethuctically pleasing, small and not over crowded, good for Instagram pictures, and serves all round good products. Also I recommend the 쌀 (sal) flavour, 망고 ( mango) flavour and the 인토셀라 ( interstellar) flavour.

Hi, me again lol Regarding cellphones, is better to get a monthly plan or a phone contract? And would you have to sort out your phone at the airport or can you do it during orientation?
Nobody will do your phone contract for you. You have to do it on your own. If you do the research when you arrive and discover which is the cheapest and best option for you, then go for it. I’m not sure which to suggest, I just use a monthly top up plan because what it includes is cheapest and simplistic, and easy to freeze if I want to go abroad or don’t have the money that month.

Hi! Regarding curfew, is it only weekdays or is the 12am curfew for the entire week?
The 12am till 5am curfew is all week, not just weekdays. There is also no bus on Sunday’s so you must prepare for that, and that the last bus is at 11:40!

Wow, this post must be pretty old but here’s some updates for you guys:
International degree seeking foreign students are more likely to be put in EHouse ( the newly built dormitory made in 2016) or Hanwoori. There’s also Hanwoori D which was made in 2017 which you can apply for and the graduate dorms are now known as the exchange student dorms.
[2016-1] Week 2 - Housing at Ewha
Tumblr media
(^Picture of the view from Hanwoori dorm)
Hey guys!
I’m back with another post on housing at Ewha. The last two or so posts I made can be seen here and here! (And here’s an extra on food at Hanwoori :O)
To add to these posts, I wanted to provide an update to the housing situation at Ewha.
When you’re admitted to Ewha, as mentioned in this post I linked before (pretty important info!!), you’ll be put into the international, graduate, or Hanwoori dorm. The prices I mentioned for Hanwoori are actually incorrect in the linked post - it’s actually only around 870,000KRW a term, or approximately 747 USD. The graduate dorms are much more expensive, and cost a few hundred over 1k USD per term.
So onto some of the more important topics:
1. Where will I be put into when I arrive at Ewha?
If you’re a degree-seeking International Student, you will most likely be placed in the Hanwoori Dorms, and you should have guaranteed housing for the duration that you’re here. If there’s overflow at Hanwoori (which seems to happen more during fall term), you could be placed into the graduate dorms instead.
If you’re a study abroad/summer program international student, then you’ll be placed in the International dorms!
2.  How much does housing cost?
So as I explained briefly above, graduate/international dorms cost ~1.2k USD per term. They’re located much closer to the main entrance of campus, and were built more recently than Hanwoori (hence more expensive).
Hanwoori costs around 750 USD a term, not including meal plans (~3 to 4k KRW per meal, sold at 30/month, 40/month, or 50/month!
3. What do you eat when you’re in dorms?
The graduate/international dorms don’t have cafeterias, so students usually opt to eat out, cook inside the dorms, or go next door to the student cafeteria in the Human Ecology building.
Hanwoori dorm has a cafeteria inside it, which is open every day for certain hours for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Also a lot of students like to order food together - chicken, fast food, chinese, etc :)
4. So….. Curfews??
Luckily, the international and graduate dorms have no curfew! :D
Hanwoori dorms, however, have a curfew from 12 to 5am. If you come in the dorms during this time, you’ll get 3 demerit points for coming in late. If you accumulate 10 points overall, you are subject to eviction from the dorm :(
5. What if I don’t want to be placed in dorms?
If you don’t want to be placed in dorms, you can just not apply and look for housing elsewhere. I’ve had fellow friends who found communal housing off campus for extremely cheap. Finding alternate housing is generally fairly difficult when you’re abroad, so I suggest at least living in dorms first, for at least the first term, then think about looking elsewhere after adjusting to Korea/Ewha and gaining more information from people around you!
I hope this post helps :D Feel free to shoot me any questions you might have!

I want to ask you two questions for the Q&A! 1)) how is your korean now that you’ve been at ewha a while and 2)) what is dating like for you at an all female university? Love you, keep up the tumblr 🧡 화이팅!
Thank you for asking! Sorry it took me so long to reply though, but here’s your answers:1) I think it’s pretty decent now, and I’m currently revising level two while working on level three so I feel at least comfortable in my korean ability but I still strive to do better everyday. If anybody ever wants study tips, I’m happy to make a post on it ( and my beautiful notes 💓)2) Dating at ewha isn’t hard really. I’m bisexual so for me I have choices at Ewha or outside of Ewha ( my current relationship is with a female who attends ewha too so there’s a good example). If you’re straight, don’t worry, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, 연대 ( Yonsei University) is right across the street from us ( literally) and 서강대 ( Sogang University) is a five minute walk from our front gate so there’s plenty of Male booty for you to get if you’re hetero. And a good way to achieve this is to join a club that associates with other universities clubs, like mine, EDiS ( the DiS debating society, JOIN US THIS SPRING GUYS) I hope I answered your questions alright,Until next time, 나중에 봐요~- Rina 🖤 (Me&MySeoul/영국여자)

I am curious about you personally. We know everything but friends and relationships. What I want to know is who you consider your closest friend and some more, do you have a boyfriend? Are you single? What is your view of the LGBT community while attending ewha?
Oh well, thank you for asking I think? I’m not quite sure if my personality fully comes across when I post things like this online, but I’m trying a little harder recently to be more of myself with you guys. Friendships and relationships? Well obviously I want to keep some things private but as for friendships, I have my dear best friends and close friends, and I’ve recently made even more friends who are fully time at my uni this year, which I’m extremely thankful for, as well as root out the bad friendships with toxic people and just live life better than before. Do I have a boyfriend/Am I single? Neither actually, I have a GIRLFRIEND. As some of you may know, I’m bisexual, and I fall under of more of a homoromantic stance than a heteroromantic stance so in easy terms; I’m more gay than straight even though I’m bisexual. I won’t be giving out details but for now, yes, I’m in a relationship. My opinion of LGBTQ+ at Ewha? Well, it’s pretty ok I think, especially compared to other universities. I think the community is good, we have a lot to support ( but of course it could be better) and our online community in 에타 ( our online page for ewha) is really flourishing and everyday there’s hundreds of posts so it’s great. Plus I have a good circle of friends who are also in the queer community themselves or are educated and support the queer community so I feel pretty comfortable at ewha and think most queer girls do too. Though I will say after this semesters study on Transgender’s at ewha and the opinions of students there on the idea of that, I would say we’re still severely lacking in that area of education, for korean students especially

Korea’s Most Popular Snacks
Ok, so the first thing I want to clarify to you all is this; THIS BLOG POST IS BASED ON MINE AND THE OPINIONS OF MY FRIENDS THAT I ASKED FOR RESEARCH. Over the past ten days I’ve been going to different convenience stores and supermarkets at the end of each day to see which products where mostly gone therefore indicating popularity, as well as surveying my friends choices and my own personal opinion on korean snacks ( my preferences). So if you don’t agree with some of the things in here, I’m sorry but thank u, next.
Anyways, let’s get started then~
Tumblr media
Snacks in Korea are so different from what you’re probably used to. Unless you grew up in Korea or Japan, you’re not gonna be used to the taste of these sweets/ ice creams/ chips. I’ve found some of the weirdest things in Korea regarding snacks and everything I was used to back home doesn’t really exist here. I can sort of understand some people losing interest in snacks once they’ve lived in Korea a while due to the fact that maybe they lost interest while not eating them in Korea because they didn’t like the taste compared to back home in their own countries, I can relate to that.
Though you can get things like haribo’s or pringles here, it’s imported usually and higher priced that what foreigners are used to, so I don’t typically buy them, nor do Koreans that often too.
So here’s my top ten gathered list of the most popular KOREAN snacks:
1) ChocoPie ( 초코파이)
Tumblr media
Chocopie is basically just a dry cake covered with chocolate with marshmallow cream in the middle. Personally I don’t like it, but Koreans seem to as it’s pretty popular and a lot of my foreigner friends do too ( though I personally don’t like korean chocolate cause it tastes like rubber to me so this is covered in it and it’s also too dry to me). It’s pretty popular, and there’s the on going debate on whether to eat Lotte’s chocopie or Orion’s Chocopie, but so far I’ve gathered that Orion is more popular in my friendship group so I added a picture of it here~
2) 돼지바
Tumblr media
돼지바 basically translates to Pig Bar but it’s not what it sounds like. It’s basically an ice cream lolly covered in peanut chocolate with a strawberry centre. I actually don’t hate it, but I’m not a huge fan either. It’s pretty popular with middle school and high school kids though, and it’s produced by Lotte as a lot of korean snacks are.
3) 초코송이
Tumblr media
초코송이 is another chocolate snack that’s like pocky/빼빼로 in taste, but is shaped like a mushroom and really popular with elementary students ( but sometimes I eat it too!)
4) 빼빼로
Tumblr media
빼빼로 a.k.a pepero is extremely popular in South Korea. It’s the korean version of Pocky and comes in so many varieties of flavour that’s it’s crazy to keep up with ( even having seasonal flavours, like candy cane for Christmas or pumpkin for Halloween). 빼빼로 is so popular in Korea that they even made 빼빼로데이 ( Pepero Day) which is like another Valentine’s Day but instead of chocolates or flowers you exchange 빼빼로 with your lover or friends with a cute message on it as a sign of your love for them. It’s gotten bigger and bigger over the years and I’ve even participated two years in a row now, this year with my lover too ( ahhhhhh)
5) 허니버터칩
Tumblr media
Honey Butter Chip is exactly what it sounds like, it’s chips that taste like honey butter. Maybe that’s totally weird sounding to you guys, and it was for me at first, but then I finally tried them, and wow it changed my world, and sometimes I even find myself craving them. I always see my korean friends eating them and they’re pretty popular too, even having seasonal flavours added to it like 빼빼로 does.
6) 바나나맛 우유
Tumblr media
So ok, let me explain THIS.
This is probably the most popular snack in Korea. I’m literally not joking. 바나나맛 우유 is basically just banana milk in a little cute container, but Korean’s go nuts for this shit, and have all different flavours too like strawberry ( I prefer that one), coffee, orange, honey, etc. But banana is by far the favourite and by the end of the working day at 7/11 or CU25 the banana milks are always almost gone. A lot of people like to drink them in the morning to wake themselves up with the sugar instead of coffee or tea, or after eating spicy food you drink these. Many you want to sober up after drinking, or you can give it to your child as dressed after dinner. It’s used in all these ways and more and is, without a doubt, the most popular item on this list.
7) 김 ( Seaweed)
Tumblr media
So, you’re probably thinking “ what the actual fuck?” Well my child, let me explain. Seaweed is actually a huge rage in eastern countries of Asia, especially japan and Korea. They dry the seaweed and put it into little packs to eat as a snack. It’s pretty good, and I watch a lot of my friends eat it with microwave rice and pre packaged 김치 as a afternoon snack between classes.
8) 라면 ( Ramen)
Tumblr media
Ramen is so fucking popular in Korea, this shit is legit crazy. In Britain, we have like two types of ramen but here it’s like they have two hundred types and there’s always more coming out. The stand out ones that most people eat are usually 진라면, 불닭볶음면, 새우탕 & 신라면. If you go to a convenience store here, you’ll often see business men or high schoolers/ college students eating ramen with 김치, rice, 김, other side dishes and 바나나맛 우유 as a cheap snack during their off times.
9) 오징어 땅콩
Tumblr media
오징어 땅콩 are squid flavoured peanut ball chips that people typically eat alongside alcohol when at a party/ bar/ or at 노래방 ( karaoke room). It’s not typically just eaten along but it’s pretty popular for drinking and it’s not usually eaten by the younger generation but more college students and businessmen. Same can be said for the chips 새우깡
10) 포카칩
포카칩 is another type of chips that are famous in Korea, and they come in all different flavours like plain, onion, etc.
If you’d like more posts on korean snacks, or maybe you just want me to make one devoted to korean ice creams or drinks or anything else, let me know and I’ll be happy to do it.
Until next time, 나중에 봐요~

What Is My Life?
Hello fellow ladies, gentlemen, and all other identifications,
I’m back... a few weeks have passed and I’m still the ultimate trash at posting, I know, I’m sorry, I’ll escort myself out *gets into trash can and closes lid*...
*SUDDENLY BURSTS BACK OUT OF BIN*
JUST KIDDING IM BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER.... maybe.... perhaps.... we’ll see.
But anyways, how is everyone’s lives? My is currently soul draining as I enjoy the wonders of midterms again this third semester of mine... it truly never gets any easier than this, in fact it feels harder than before and I can see the eye bags increasing.
Not only that but my oh so magical biological parents are pressuring me to transfer to a cheaper university that ewha all so that they can save like $300 a year... but I honestly don’t know what to do... should I force them to let me stay? Or just let it all go and apply to somewhere else that’s high second tier?
We’ll have to wait and see after this next semester comes towards its end, but for now I’ll rack my brain and be utterly depressed about it all until then 😭
I met somebody though, a super funny girl who goes to ewha and I exchange letters with in secret ( not so secret anymore lmao), but anyways my gay lil heart is fluttering every moment RIP.
And my gay lil heart is still broken even now yay once again RIP ( my roommate has rubbed off on me)
But besides the point- what do you guys wanna know about korea? Let me know, and I’ll make as many posts as I can about it for you guys. Comment below or message me, I wanna start making more content that’s interesting for you guys~
Until then, 나중에 봐요~

Tumblr media
Hey guys, it’s me, ya boi I’m back after forever, I’m sorry, I know, Ive been meaning to do more posts, but a lot has happened in my life and I needed time to process it fully; a lot of private and deep things that have left me discovering a lot about myself this summer. But one thing I thought I should mention to you guys, which I realised recently that I hadn’t really talked about much until recently is that I’m Bi. I had a lot of messages flooding in asking me about it. Things like how I came out exactly, how did I know, have I dated females, etc. I guess to answer a few, I never particularly cared my whole life about the sex of my lover. I had been pounded over and over by misogynistic, racist and homophobic family members all throughout my life, but it didn’t prevent me from viewing the world my own way by indulging myself further by myself. I had gone through high school, for the most part, crushing on males, because honestly, no-body at my high school that identified as female was my type. It wasn’t a “ I’m being hetero because I feel pressured by my high school peers”, it was just how it was, and it was stupid silly crushes for the most part. I completely forgot about my love life during my last two years of high school anyways, focusing on grades and my future instead at that time. When I came to Korea at first, I hoe’d around a little to begin with, mostly simplistic kissing someone in the club, and it was never really just one gender to specify. Nobody really cared to ask me my sexuality so it never came up, until one day I was pulling a lassie in a club and my friend just stood there like a mum watching her child take a shot for the first time. After much conversation with said friend, I decided it would be better to be open about it. With my friends, and strangers, I have never been scared to show my sexuality. And as for my family, I didn’t feel the need to explain to them due to multiple reasons as I felt I didn’t care enough to anyways. So when my friend told me she wished I had shared that with her as it would’ve made her feel I cared about her more as a close friend, I realised that it may be important to close friends in the future to tell them. So to sum it up, I never really had a ‘coming out’ moment, and most of my friends except for one person have supported me as I am so I’m pretty lucky I guess? I don’t walk around screaming IM BI EVERYBODY but I also don’t deny anything either... plus I lowkey dress like a lesbian soccer mum a lot so it protrudes a lot of the time. As for when I first knew I liked both genders. Idk, I at first never cared for appearances and just grew up crushing on both genders, but when I was maybe fifteen (?) I found myself attracted to both female and male bodies, not just for the persons personality, so I strongly identify as Bi. As for yourself, if you are curious about whether or not you like the same gender or maybe you want to know if it’s more just liking personalities, I always tell my friends it’s like this. If you can have sex with the same gender for the body and enjoy it, be engaged, while still liking the opposite genders body and also enjoy it sexually, then you’re likely to be bi. If it’s more on a personality of your lover and not gender, it’s not bisexuality usually. So think about that. ( but of course, it’s not all about sex) Someone asked if I’d had sex/ dated females and IM SORRY I DIDNT ANSWER YOU I JUST WANTED TO DO IT LIKE THIS FIRST! But as for private reasons, I won’t go into detail, but yes and yes. Nothing more to add. I’ll say this: I’ve had two serious relationships in my life and both were male. It’s not that I’m choosing not to have a female lover, I just haven’t found the right person yet. Someone else asked what it’s like being bi in South Korea. Personally, because I live in Seoul, I have many opportunities to express myself at pride, or even just at a queer bar, but also keep in mind that I’m Bi, so I have plenty to choose from. I don’t necessarily have to go to a queer bar just to find someone within my interest group. And you’ll find the queer pool of people here isn’t as small as you may think. Seriously. Even I was surprised. I guess this is a good way to answer a few of your questions? If you have anymore, let me know~ Until next time, 나중에 봐요~ 리나 🖤 (그리고 지금 난 플러팅 해용 ㅎㅎㅎ)
