I ordered a kit for ear stretching. So that's a thing.

I have, in addition to my conch, an industrial, septum, and lobe piercings. The conch was more painful than the two I can remember- which would be septum and industrial. I’d rate it at an 8 out of 10. (while my septum would be like a 3/10 and the industrial a 5/10) The initial pain faded pretty quickly (within an hour or two), and I have been able to touch the area around the piercing without pain. The actual piercing and hole hurt, however, and there is swelling.

On the actual process of piercing- this is where your results may vary. My piercer asked if I’d prefer to be pierced with a barbell or a ring (I opted for a barbell because I figured that would be better jewelry for me in the long run) as well as told me the variety of things I could shove in the hole. I am pierced at a 14g- which is the same as my industrial. I was told that this gauge was pretty standard for the conch piercing. She cleaned and marked the area, as you expect, I okayed it... and then she checked for blood vessels. Typically, expect blood. Everyone will tell you there was blood. Expect blood- even if your piercer tells you what mine did to me. Turns out I don’t have blood vessels running through that part of my ear but a mole I had removed had its own blood supply. So no blood. Go me. Does make cleaning it seem very weird as there’s no crusty to get rid of. Given, my body is weird and my ears tend to be a pain to clean or just generally live with, so we’ll not discuss this in depth- your mileage may vary.

Pierced on April 22, 2017.

I was told to wait 6-8 weeks before changing jewelry (approx. June 3-17, 2017). I was told it will take 3 months to a year to heal (approx. July 2017- April 2018). Your piercer may give you a different time frame on this. Always listen to your piercer. Always go to a reputable piercer. Do not pierce yourself or other people unless you are qualified and always make sure you are being pierced with sterilized needles and jewelry.

Jewelry I was pierced with: 14g curved barbell.

ETA: I forgot to mention that it hurt twice during the piercing process. Once when the needle went through and then worse when the jewelry went in.

Overall: Hurt like hell. Looks really neat. I want it in my right ear, too. Would not actively recommend to anyone as a first piercing.
