Hi everyone.
If you’ve decided to come back to my profile, you may have noticed that I’ve been pretty inactive. I wanna apologize for opening my asks and then not answering them. Some ridiculously bad timing happening as soon as i did and i have been drowning in stress. I’m not gonna get into that, maybe later, but as of now i wanna say sorry.
So about asks and such, im gonna close my ask box. I do plan on writting for asks and some other stuff but thats it. I also am not all that into atsv anymore. This is a hyperfixation after all, i switch interest often. My current interest is kinda immature so i doubt im gonna post anything about out of pure embarrassment. But yeah.

How to write a cane user character
(Written by a cane user)
A few months ago, I wrote a small guide on good disabled characters and why they were good that gathered quite the attention, and I thought that doing another more specific guide this time would be interesting for writers or just people that are curious ! This guide will include general informations, some things to do, some things to avoid and some ideas that might revolve cane users's lives.
Things to know about cane users
Cane users are pretty diverse, and putting us in little boxes usually isn't the best idea if you want to make a character that has substance and isn't just "the disabled one". Here some infos about cane users that might be helpful knowledge !
Canes don't have ages. Most cane users in media are portrayed to be old, but truly, anyone can have the need to wield a cane ! I've been using mine ever since I was 17.
Can users can have a large variety of problems for their canes. Some canes are used to avoid pain from effort. Some canes are used for balance purposes. Some canes are to make walking less exhausting (works the same as walking sticks !) And sometimes, it's multiple problems at once.
Not everyone needs their cane 24/7. Some always need it, some can make small efforts without it but overall often need it, and some people, like me, can spend quite a lot of time without it. I almost never use my cane in my house, and mostly take it outside !
People with canes can run. We're not necessarily slow, I'm even faster than a lot of my friends.
Not using a cane can come with consequences, but not always. Some people might be able to walk without a cane but then suffer horrible consequences, but for others, canes are just a commodity for specific occasions.
Canes don't have to be looked down upon. Look at some characters with canes that look cool as hell ! Arsène Lupin, Roguefort Cookie, Brook ... Their canes serve their style !
We can be pretty healthy. Some people can have canes just because they were born with a bent leg and that's it. Our cane doesn't define our health status.
Canes aren't a curse. Think of them as something positive. It's a tool to make our lives better. You don't see someone sitting on a chair and think "awh, it's sad that they need a chair". It's more something like "hey it's cool that this chair is here so they can sit down"
Things to do
Make them use their cane. And when I mean use, I mean that canes are just funky long sticks usually made out of metal. Have fun with it ! Let them use it as a weapon ! Trust me, one hit in the knees with a cane and you're DOWN. Use it to reach stuff that's too high for everyone ! Have fun. Be creative.
Let them decorate their cane. It's an extension of their body ! You usually put on clothes that you like, don't you ? It's the same for a cane. If they like cutesy stuff, let them paint in it pastel colors ! If they like a more flashy style, add some stickers on it ! If they're a fancy person, give them a beautiful crafted cane with jewels on it !
You can make them a little shy or uneasy about their cane. Some people don't feel worthy of confident enough to wield one. It's not rare to see people think they're "not disabled enough to do so"
But on the other hand, you can do the complete opposite !! Make them proud of that cane ! Make them act like they're feeling pretty and more confident with it ! One thing i like to think about with my own cane is that I look like a cool gentleman. That boosted my confidence immensely.
Things to avoid
Don't make it their whole world. And by that, I do not mean that their cane shouldn't be a defining trait of their personality. Think of Toph from ATLA. She is blind, and you usually can't think of her character without describing her as blind. However, that isn't her entire personality trait. Make cane users have a goal in life, friends who enjoy them for who they are and not just pity them, have fun ... Don't just make them the disabled one.
Don't try to make the character's life just a plain disaster unless it's the focus of your story and you really know what you're talking about. Having a character who's always in pain, who feels bad about relying on their cane and/or who's angry at the entire world for being disabled is a REALLY tricky subject to use if you don't want them to be either a mass of unhappiness and angst for no good reason or some inspirational porn of the character who inside is deeply tortured but outside keeps up a facade because they shouldn't cry to avoid making others uneasy.
Do not, and I repeat, do NOT try to heal them, especially in a magical way. Bad idea. A lot of disabled people's goal isn't to be healed. It's to live a normal life. Making it so the ultimate goal for them is to be healed makes it as if they were worthless as long as they were disabled. Making their situation better physically or mentally is one thing. Curing them completely is really bad. "But some disabled folks want to be cured !" True, true. But if you are able bodied, I'm not sure if you can have the right mind to understand all of the complex details about this situation that leads to someone's life choices and the end result may look like you think the only thing that can make disabled people happy is being freed from their condition. I think it's best to just avoid it altogether. If you need a more nuanced idea, try to give them a solution that still has a few downs ! For exemple, a prosthetic that feels like a real arm, acts like a real arm and basically replaces it perfectly is a full cure. But a prosthetic that takes time to adjust to, needs repairs sometimes and doesn't look 100% like an arm can be a better narrative choice
Smaller thing, but don't make the handle uneasy to wield if you draw the character design. You can decorate most of the cane, but if you have chunky spiky decorations on the place you're supposed to clench your hand over, you're gonna hurt yourself. I've seen quite a lot of jewel handles or sculpted metal handles and usually their not good. If it's detailed metal, your hand will end up cramped in little parts and it can hurt. If it's a jewel, it's so easy for it to slip out of your hand it's unpractical.
List of tropes/ideas of scenes/details about canes to help you write new situations !
If you walk with a cane during winter, you can't put your hand in your jacket to get warm and there's a high chance your hand will get freezing. So after a long walk, you get an excuse for another character to hold their hand and warm them up.
If the handle is metallic, you get the opposite problem during summer. You can burn yourself so easy ! Easy accident if you want someone to help and get closer to the disabled person without it necessarily involving their disability.
Canes are SUPER useful when you're walking upon heights. They make things really easy, just like hiking poles on mountains ! I live on volcanoes and whenever we clim on a harsh slope, I'm always the first to get up there. Good moment for your character to get a boost of confidence if they get all the way up somewhere before their friends !
The first time using your cane feels magical. If you have chronic pains, it makes you feel like your pain disapear. If you can't walk right, it feels like everything is suddenly alright. The moment where a character chooses to wield a cane can be huge for character development. It's a moment of fear because of the impact a cane has on their appearance, but also a moment of confidence and relief.
Canes fall. All the time. And after a while, it becomes fucking comical. Trust me, putting a cane against the wall, seeing it fall and doing it three times again in a row while it doesn't want to stay up makes you embarrassed but also makes you want to laugh because of how stupid it looks.
When you get a cane, you stop being invisible. When you walk outside, generally speaking, people don't look at you. They don't care about you. But when you get a cane, people start to stare at you for no other reasons that you have a cane. Half of them are just curious, especially if you're young. The other half has a very specific look. The "oh, you poor thing" look. Which is, trust me, particularly awful to get, especially when you're just existing and doing nothing special. How does your character react to this ? How do they feel about it ?
I believe that is all I had in mind. I may add some more details in the future if I get other ideas, but this should already be a good start. I would be thrilled to answer questions if you have some, either in my askbox or through DMs.

how to write good (?) indians/indian-origin/non-residential-indians! (as an indian)
kinda decided to write this since pavitr is pretty popular in the spiderverse fandom, and he deserves his indian-ness bc he is so cute let me know if you feel like i missed stuff out!
first thing to note is that india is not just a country, it is a fricking subcontinent 💀we're now the most populated country in the world.
we have 28 states, each with their own state government, and 8 union territories, which are kinda like mini states except they're too small to be called states, so they come under the central government (consider them the plutos of india). each state has a different culture, and while a few things overlap, don't expect everything to!
second thing to note is that since every state is different, every district and subsequent city/town/village will have its own culture/traditions based off of the local history and/or mythology.
there's going to be your overall state history, and then there's the district and city and town and village history, which are all pretty important. taking pavitr as an example, since he lives in mumbattan or mumbai, which irl is the financial capital of india, he'd know the state and city history but also the history of the town he's actually from. maybe not in detail though, there's a lot of stuff going on.
third and final thing to note is that none of the states speak the same language. languages do overlap based on where the state is (north/south/east/west), but each state has its own native language, and that language is often prioritised. also, even in the state, each district, city, town, and village have their own dialects and slang.
for example, i speak telugu at home, the native language of andhra pradesh and telangana (they speak two different dialects of telugu, my dialect is from andhra pradesh), but i live in tamil nadu, and am therefore expected to know and speak tamil (i do not speak it well. it is very tough.) i also speak hindi, since that was my second language in school, and a bit of french, since that was my third language. because of hindi and telugu, I do understand a bit of marathi (since a few verbs and words overlap from both languages) and since I used to visit relatives in punjab, I do understand a bit of punjabi. that's a lot, I'm sorry 💀
now that we've gotten the history-geography-culture-and-tradition stuff out of the way...
how do you write good indians?
since we're a pretty complicated people (inter-state/mixed-religion marriages happen too), there's no one way to define us as a people. chances are that if you write an indian guy living in the u.s. who's in his mid-forties and really hates the smell of tandoori chicken, there'd actually be a guy like that irl.
here's some stuff I've seen around me though!
we as people are actually pretty influenced by (or rely on) family and the people around us.
word of mouth goes so fucking hard in our communities.
we do well in large groups, although we also do have introverts who prefer to be left alone (again, we're people).
most of us are actually multilingual (refer point 3 i made) and we tend to mix and match languages depending on what kind of friend group we're with. here's an example of a chat i had on whatsapp (typed out because you know internet safety)
S: Bengali weddings are exhausting bro (my friend's brother is getting married. that's the context.)
SA: We tried booking a temple and they said august has more shubh din (this is hindi) so they decided august
Me: :0 in telugu weddings we just use horoscope
S: Ya it's the same everywhere.
S: Bhai reception tak mera ho gaya tha. (again, this is hindi)
SA: btw you guys are coming on monday na?
S: Haan maate (this sent me because it literally means 'yes mother' but the context is kinda like- 'yeah bbygurl' idk)
so like- when we chat, we just put words anywhere and everywhere. 'na' is like 'yes' but in the form of a question- you're affirming an action.
what's the difference between indian-origins, indians, and non-residential-indians?
indians are all those people who have the indian passport or other methods of identification (pan, aadhar, driver's license) and live in india (like me). indian-origin people are those whose nationality is not indian, but have indian parents. many indians you'd see in the united states/canada are indian-origin or non-residential-indians (NRIs), who have an indian passport but live abroad for work or education.
a few other things to remember (that I've seen in tv shows and movies)!
very few indians have an 'indian' accent. due to globalisation and most people moving out of the country for education and work, we have neutral accents when speaking in english. our accents mostly pop up when we speak our native tongue.
grammar rules go wheeeeee- we have no rules when speaking hinglish/telgish/tanglish or any other mix of english and a language. well, technically we just mix our language's grammar rules with english's, so all sentence structures are valid!

"No."
"Please."
"I said no, go away," he huffed, leaning up against the wall of the empty room in headquarters you dragged him into. If he didn't love you so much he would have knocked your lights out. In fact, he would not have let you drag him in the first place.
"Hobebe, please," you clasped your hands together and brought them under your chin, begging him and hoping that the use of the nickname would make him cave. But of course it didn't.
This exchange had been going on for ten minutes straight.
A crazy thought had popped itself into your head, and you decided to seek out your boyfriend to make that thought a reality. But he didn't exactly match your enthusiasm.
"Hobie, come on. It's just gonna be a second," you continued to beg, tugging at his sleeve and standing on your toes just so you can be slightly eye level with him.
"Just hang upside down real quick and I'll give you a quick kiss. That's it, please."
All he did was roll his eyes at your begging, he thought this was absolutely ridiculous.
"Why can't you just kiss me now love?" he moved away from the wall to lean down close to your face. Not only to stop you from almost jumping to meet his gaze, but because he knew how flustered you would get when he did.
"I kiss you like this all the time," you almost pouted, turning your gaze slightly away from him, not expecting his sudden movements towards you. This made his expression turn amused.
"I just want to try something new."
His smirk grew wider at your choice of words, and your chest began to feel a bit hot. You almost feared to ask...
"What?"
"Nothing," he simply hummed, raising his hand to run his knuckles against your cheek, and you felt the heat in your chest trail up to your neck.
"It's just that, this isn't the first time you said that."
And that was it, your face practically went up in flames at the reminder, making you turn away completely and hide your face in your hands.
"Hobie, stop," your whines came, slightly muffled now making him throw his head back in laughter.
The sound that came from him was deep and smooth, familiar even. That did not help your current state as you felt you were becoming more akin to a bonfire.
"Hey now," he softly whispered despite your current torment. He moved towards you once more, chuckling as he tried to pull your hands away from your face.
And you let him, absolutely melting in his touch despite your own temperature.
"Don't go hiding that pretty face of yours," he grinned as your eyes finally met him again. He gently took your chin between his fingers. He didn't want you turning away again, especially now when he had a little proposition for you.
"Tell you what," he said.
"If you can look at me for a minute straight while I do whatever I want, I'll hang upside down and you can kiss me all you want." He proposed, and it intrigued you. But the look on his face made you hesitate.
"You're not gonna do anything funny are you?" You quirked a brow, finding the courage to pull your chin from his hand as you finally began to compose yourself.
You look at him unimpressed.
"That type of funny, nah," he shook his head.
"Unless you want it to be of course, I'm a gentleman above all else."
"Hobart."
"Damn, so pissy," he tsked.
"But yes, nothing funny unless specifically asked for," he tilted his head towards you with a more genuine smile.
Fuck, he was cute.
"Fine," you agreed.
"Get ready to hang upside down, pretty boy."
"We'll see about that," he quirked an amused brow before taking your shoulders in his hands, completely taking you by surprise once more.
"One minute starts now."
Your breath hitched in your throat as you feel him backing you up against the wall. He did it gently, but it didn't stop you from tensing up in an effort to stand your ground.
Was this not funny business? You screamed in your head despite your thoughts beginning to get muddled as he leaned down towards you like earlier. Your heart was practically doing a number on your
"Why do you look so mad?" He cooed, hands trailing up to the sides of your face.
Now this was getting really funny. But you didn't say anything. Knowing that talking would only make things worse. You focused on looking him in the eyes with the best deadpan expression you could muster.
You were gonna do the upside down kiss with him, even if it killed you.
"Not answering me I see," he hummed, thumbs now rubbing small circles on your cheeks.
"You know, I don't understand why you want me to go upside down just for a kiss," he said simply, almost too simply for your liking.
Still, he went on. He moved his head a bit to the side, lips going near your ear till you could hear and feel his warm breath on you.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
"Quite unimaginative don't you think?" He whispered, voice seemingly going down an octave.
"I could think of a lot more fun things we could do upside down."
And that was it, the emotions you were hiding came out in a burst, and you practically yanked yourself from his hold to look away from him. You hid your head in your hands again, this time not only in embarrassment, but in defeat.
"You promised no funny business," you peaked your eyes out of your hands just to glare at him.
He was looking at you so smug with his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah, but you didn't specify what funny business," he shrugged.
"All I did was talk to you like I normally do, not my fault you could handle it."
You huffed at his nonchalant attitude, bringing your hands down to clench them at your sides.
"This isn't over."
He laughed at the determined look on your face, thinking how fucking cute you were. So cute in fact that he leaned in to kiss you on the cheek.
"It never is."

♡ Fair warning about my blog!
I am a black woman, so most of my writing will have a reader being a black woman. As you may or may not know, there is not a lot of rep for POC/WOC in fanfiction, I wanna fill that void. As for non women that view my blog, I don't mind writing for a non binary or gender neutral reader. However for men, I have tried writing for male readers in the past but I am honestly not that good at it. I don't feel comfortable enough in my own abilities to write in the perspective of a man because I am not one. I don't mind writing for trans readers (With the exception of trans masc.) as long as it is not specifically about the experience of being trans. (I am not trans and I know nothing about being trans so I don't want to misrepresent.) A/N: this came to me yesterday for no reason, i have bad hobie brain rot :(((
