Guys just love to hang out by the whiskey barrels… 🥃🐠
Long time no see! Cove is doing well. He’s enjoying the newest decorations he recently got and loves when his tank gets refurnished after a water change!
One of my favourite things about having fish is seeing what their favourite hides are and seeing how excited they get when their favourite hide gets switched in. Cove is a huge fan of his heart log and curls up in it constantly! 🐠💙🥹
I really don't understand people who own fish but get obnoxiously upset when you try and tell them you need to care for fish.
I'm not talking about forcing someone from plastic or painted decor to a fully planted tank... I'm talking about people who don't cycle and then change water once a year. Or continually dump fist fulls of food into the tank to the point it's accumulating and decaying. Or the people who don't think fish need water conditioner or heaters or filters in general and are happy in a vase. Or flush live fish because they're bored of them. Or who stock carnivores and prey in the same tank and cry all their money got eaten overnight.
Bonus points if people post their stupid fucking opinion that vases are great and their vase fish is happy and thriving to actual fish groups and try and discredit actual fish care.
Like the same people so quick to rush any other sort of pet to the vet will also physically fight you to d e a t h if you even hint that a fish tank needs any sort of routine care.
I can't comprehend how people don't realize fish are alive.
As their skin is very loose-fitting on their body, they are able to easily squeeze through crevices less than half their body width. They lack true eyes, but make do very well with their senses of smell and touch!
Did you know that giant Pacific octopuses have roughly 2,000 suckers lining their eight arms?! 🤔🐙 The suction cups allow these inquisitive invertebrates to investigate their watery world through touch, taste, and smell. Watch aquarist Candace prepare a food enrichment for one of our giant Pacific octopuses and see how this savvy cephalopod shows off their super sucker senses.
Hip-hip-furray, it’s time to shellebrate Ruby’s birthday! 🦦🥳
At eight years old, playful Ruby is our youngest resident sea otter. She was found as a stranded pup in September of 2015, and at 1.9 pounds (0.86 kg) she was one of the smallest sea otters we've ever rehabilitated. Noticing her small size and fresh belly button, our Animal Care team suspected she may have been born prematurely and rescued her that same day.
Ruby grew up in our surrogacy program and after serving as an ambassador at Aquarium of Americas for a few years, she was welcomed back to our raft in 2022.
We’re pawsitively thrilled to sealebrate you Ruby! You’re otter this world!
I think it’s genuinely fascinating how much a betta fish’s colouration can change! 👀
I’ve had Cove for 2.5 months now and his colours have changed a lot since I first brought him home. It shows how much a fish can adjust to his new habitat and how much change they can go through in their life. He seems to be a completely different fish sometimes (except his personality is the exact same)! 💙🐠
