Why is Tumblr so cringey?

Because there’s nothing wrong with being cringey!

There’s nothing wrong with being a teenager exploring your interests without restriction, finding a welcoming and energetic community. Where instead of the world rudely and uselessly bashing you down for your spirit, people engage in the wonderful passions you love. Where instead of finding rejection, you can find acceptance for your own identity and soul.

There’s nothing wrong with being passionate about stories about magical skeletons and goat moms, when those stories provide so much joy, happiness, light, and hope in your life. There’s nothing wrong with finding a place where you can ebulliently scream out all the things you feel, express out that sense of happiness and hope you feel. There’s nothing wrong with finding inspiration in any facet of our lives, and it’s truly a good thing for us to be able to engage with the things that are positives and dear to our hearts. Engaging in these things will make our souls flourish.

There’s nothing wrong with being a mother going online to draw anime girls, to create self-insert OCs, to write wish-fulfillment fanfics, because adding a few years to our lives doesn’t mean we still can’t enjoy creating art and fiction. There’s nothing wrong in watching a television show when you’re 15 or when you’re 50. All our lives are enriched through recreation and imagination.

There’s nothing wrong with being a young adult who’s finally coming to terms with your sexuality, your gender, your identity, and you can use a space to think through and grapple with everything you’re handling. Talk about it 24/7? Apply it to your favorite tv shows 24/7? You know, maybe that’s what you need to process it and feel proud of yourself and how far you’ve come.

There’s nothing wrong with being young and trying to figure out how to socialize. There’s nothing wrong with being an introvert and trying to figure out how to socialize. There’s nothing wrong with being non-neurotypical and trying to figure out how to socialize. There’s nothing wrong with being isolated and trying to figure out how to socialize. There’s nothing wrong with being a non-native [insert language here] speaker and trying to figure out how to socialize.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There will be mistakes. There will be conflict. There will be misinterpretations and there will be poor words exchanged. There will be fights over vastly unimportant things and there will be toxic call-out cultures where we immediately assume someone else is a devil, rather than give them the benefit of the doubt needed. There will be hate mail and trolls and bullying and bigoted anons. There will be people who are barely beginning to learn about politics making assumptions with absurd conclusions. There will be people preaching platforms that should make anyone’s eyebrows raise. There will be people who immediately turn someone into an enemy, rather than find an opportunity to exchange ideas and help someone who’d be capable and willing to listen.

But. In all this. Hopefully, there will growth. We all need a space where we can come in the journeys of our lives to learn how to interact with one another, to learn those social skills, and it might as well be here than anywhere else.

I always see human lives as a web of interactions. We’re going to make mistakes wherever we are. A highly international, diverse place like tumblr is going to have one of the most complicated webs because of the huge number of interactions that take place. The threads are like to get hugely tangled that way. There’s so many threads to work with and so many opportunities for a thread to snag. In an anonymous space where so many people can rub elbows, there’s bound to be drama. But the threads can also weave beautiful, glorious patterns. And with the number of threads we have online, we’ll get intricate and colorful patterns. Patterns we wouldn’t find anywhere else. Relationships, friendships, ideas, meaningful connections, creative energies, and human spirit we wouldn’t find anywhere else but this.

Sure, there’s going to be trash fires going on here, and I admit I roll my eyes a lot when something crosses my dash. But we’re all human. We all have done something to make someone else roll their eyes. Goodness knows, I am worthy of many eyerolls. I’m not going to judge the child for making a post about politics that, in four years, they’ll probably not believe themselves. I’m not going to mock the person drawing AU ship art for something I find absurd but they personally find emotionally stimulating. I might internally sigh at someone making a terrible, illogical jump to conclusions, but in the grand scheme of things, someone misinterpreting the use of the color pink in a television show isn’t something to get worked up about. And when there are bad fights, I’ll just remember: fights happen everywhere, and likely as not, this one will die in three days. Crapfests aren’t some tumblr-exclusive thing. Humans have been finding creative places and ways to bicker since we figured out we could move our big toes. There will be just as many happy interactions for me to get engaged in instead.

And......... even those trash fires can be beautiful. They can be points of mirth. I’ll laugh hard at a clusterfuck of interactions where everyone made wild jumps in logic. I’ll grin broadly and share the latest ridiculous meme. I’ll make my own shitposts because life is too short not to be ridiculous.

Humans are valuable and wonderful for our trash fires, too.

Sometimes, tumblr is about finding you’re not the only one... (I thought I was really weird on that subject, and this means something !:) I never stopped doing it though^^

When I️ was little I️ would close my eyes and press on my eyelids in order to see pretty shaped and star patterns. I️ would try to see exactly what they r but they would always shift into new things when I️ did that, so I’d sit for ages just doing that on a slow Saturday morning

I used to do that as well! Mostly when I couldn’t sleep :)

Fantasy LGBT

Les personnages principaux LGBT sont rares en Fantasy. J’ai rassemblé une (courte) liste, à compléter ! Les ouvrages sont tous accessibles en Français.

Les Hérault de Valdemar : On en a dans chaque trilogie, mais je partirai sur La Magie [Vanyel, Tylendel, Danselune, Etoilevent,…] et les Flèches [Sherill]. L’univers est très intéressant et complet.

Nightrunner : Seregil est, dès les premiers chapitres, présenté comme un personnage qui se soucie peu du sexe des personnes dont il tombe amoureux. Quant à l’histoire, elle est prenante, mature, et complexe.

Le Sang de l’Honneur : Il apparaît rapidement que Malone est intéressé par les hommes. On se retrouve mêlé dans une histoire politique et économique, agrémentée de spécificité de l’univers.

Pour ce qui est de personnages féminins queer, on devra attendre un peu malheureusement, quant aux trans, ils sont malheureusement inexistants des oeuvres que j’ai pu lire. Des suggestions ?

Autism Sundae Bar

As requested by @cold-and-analytical as well as many others I have created an autism sundae bar Please remember that I am not an autism expert, also you may have more than one flavor of ice cream on your bowl. If any other topics or flavors come to you comment them and I will add them!

FLAVORS

Vanilla

Basic Autistic- has trouble with social cues, doesn’t enjoy large crowds or increased sensory input

Chocolate

Sensory Star- Constantly needing sensory input, doesn’t understand why other people do what they do

Cookies and cream

Memory Muncher- Has an amazing memory but struggles with fine motor skills on a day to day basis

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Yes or No- Everything is black and white there is no grey area and has trouble with why others cross the line

Buttered Pecan

Constant support- These individuals are usually labeled as “Low Functioning” are usually non-verbal and have trouble with all fine motor skills. May depend on people throughout entire life.

Cookie Dough

Silent Aspie- Very quiet and withdrawn from social events but once you mention one of their special interests, they will talk your ear off

Strawberry

Repetition Addition- Absolutely loves routine, will only eat the same 10 foods, mayhem if thrown of schedule, everything HAS TO BE PLANNED

Moose Tracks

Talkative Tike- Always is talking about something and never knows when it is their turn to talk

Often talks about the same things over and over (Special Interests”

Mint Chocolate chip

Average Aspie- Usually not diagnosed because they have learned to fit into society by copying social behavior, Hates making eye contact

Neapolitan

Savage Savant- This is your standard Sheldon cooper type of autism, incredibly talented and smart but has a lot of trouble with social skills. Can function normally in society with some practice in communication.

TOPPINGS

Oreo- Special interests for life

Cherries- can memorize the periodic table but can’t tie own shoes

Reces peanut butter cups- my brain thinks it’s a good idea but when my mouth says it, it doesn’t sound right

I had a tantrum at work. Or a meldtown. Or a shutdown. Somehow, I don’t even know how to name it anymore because my family doesn’t believe I can be autistic so I feel like a fraud.

I worked with kids and I went inside to calm down and not frighten them (I did not leave them alone, there were my collegues of course), and then when my dutie was over, I talked to the headmaster, but...

I’m afraid they’ll send me back. I’m afraid they will think I’m not suited to work with kids. I’m feeling like a failure and an awful person.

Oh. I do that too. Isn't it something everyone does ? It's stupid to say you 're sorry, it won't help. I guess I 'll just add it to my autistic features list

People like to say that autistics lack empathy, but that’s just not true. Many of us are very empathetic and often capable of feeling things deeply, but our way of communicating it may be off.

Oh, thanks ! I am still waiting for a diagnostic and honestly, the fictional aspie stuff made me feel like I definitly wasn’t, event though I have plenty of caracteristics !

I have difficulties to cope with Aspie in fiction. They are super humans, and not realistic, it annoys me !

Neurotypical: There are 8 cows in the field.

Fictional aspie: There are 8 cows in the field, three are boars and five are female. Four of them have black patches, three have brown patches, and one is mostly brown with a white underbelly. I see twenty million blades of grass, and ten thousand spiders hiding in the blades. The grass is dry and it is exactly 37.245 degrees celcius. The brown cow has a poor milk supply, and a thirsty female calf with inherited AIDS plods next to it with dry hooves at 2 kilometres for hour—

Me, and other real aspies probably:

There are 8(?) cows in the field. It’s fucking hot so I’m in shorts but the grass is tickly. That one is funny, it’s a different colour to the others! AaaaaAAAAAA IS THAT A BABY COW I WANT TO PROTECT IT but it will sadly perish as this is a farm :( hey what was I doing again? Oh yeah, counting the cows. Ehh I’m bored I’ll do it later.

Belonging

Sometimes, it’s just like I’m never going to belong.

I have difficulties to stand hate. I don’t hate anyone. I think no matter what you are, LGBT+ or not, neurotypical or not, people can be nice person or arses. So...

Yeah, sometimes, seeing hate in communities makes me depressed. Like there is nowhere safe for me.
