IMPORTANT NEWS: ABL TITLE CHANGE
Hey there my lovely readers. As you all know, my passion project A Beautiful Lie has been going on for about 5 years now, with this current name being in use for around 4 of those 5 years. But lately, I've felt myself fall out of love with this name and am strongly considering a name change. But I wanted to consult all of you first.
The Chain
Would be the new name. And yes, I have considered how it'll fit into the story and I actually like its relevance more than ABL. But again, I wanted to get your opinions on this since you all have as big a hand in this story as I do.
Please share your thoughts with me! I love to hear from you guys!

So, if you’re here, then you probably already know about my passion project: A Beautiful Lie (ABL). And that’s what we’re here to discuss!
Now, I’ve been writing stories and publishing on Fanfiction for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always loved it! The community, the connectedness of the readers and creators, the welcoming and wholesome environment – it’s all been amazing. But I never really considered that I could make a living off of what I make. Until now, that is.
As many of my readers know, I recently got into nursing school, which is amazing! And sometimes not – specifically when it comes to the amount of free time I now have, which is basically zero. As such, it gets harder and harder to find the time and motivation to write.
I think this page can help with that.
Now, with my current schedule and the availability of some scholarships that I’ve acquired, I do not have a steady stream of income right now, which will become an issue later when I pursue graduate school. As such, I decided that I wanted to take the skills and work that I put into the world and hopefully get a little something in return!
Now, something important to note is that the addition of this Patreon will NOT take anything away from my readers. I will not cut off your access to any new chapters nor will I make you pay to read my story. I started ABL to share my ideas with all of you and that alone gives me a joy I cannot put into words. Instead, I will be adding incentives and rewards to any readers who decide to donate to me. All the money I receive from this page will go towards fueling my motivation to continue writing and putting out the best quality work I possibly can and hopefully even allow me to publish on a more consistent schedule.
After nearly 6 years of writing this story and providing you all with entertainment, I hope you’ll find it in yourselves to give a little something back! And if you can’t, then please don’t worry about it! Knowing that you all continue to enjoy my writings is sometimes reward enough!

"The girl was sitting on a rusted bench outside the pawn shop, legs spread and arms dangling between them as she rested her elbows on her knees. Her skin was dark, black hair tied up into twin braids that draped down her back and brushed against her stomach, the tips dyed a dark red. She reached an arm up, hand bandaged like a boxer, and pinched the cigarette in her mouth between two fingers, pulling it out before blowing a stream of long gray smoke from her lips. Her other arm, littered with tattoos that wound up her shoulder, reached for her chest. With a finger, she gently flicked her necklace: three bullets tied together by a piece of tattered black string. It jingled.
He hadn't noticed it two weeks ago...the first time he'd seen her.
If Johanna had issue with the fact that he was now staring at her, she made no moves to show it. She merely twisted the cigarette between her fingers, tapped out a bit of ash, and popped it back into her mouth.

How did you get into Irondad?
I first got into Irondad in sophomore year of high school, when I was only 15 years old. We had a free day in my English class and my teacher put on Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now, I had already seen this movie and, yeah, it was good, but nothing spectacular. However, rewatching that movie, I felt…something. Something different from when I watched it the first time under the biased lens of “Ugh, Marvel? I like DC better.” In preparation for Infinity War, my friends and I binged all the movies, many of which I hadn’t seen. Perhaps it was this binge and the subsequent feelings of love and adoration that bloomed in me when watching that first triggered my love for Irondad. Whatever the case, watching this movie in my English class ignited some sort of passion in me. And I haven’t looked back since.
What is your favorite Irondad scene?
Hands down, the best Irondad scene in the MCU is (*****Endgame spoilers****) the reunion scene in Endgame between Peter and Tony. No words had to be shared in that scene. The facial expression on Tony said it all, encapsulated all the love and warmth that lives in this relationship.
When did you start writing and what made you sit down and write that first story?
I was only seven years old when I first started writing. It was so long ago that I can no longer remember the specifics of what made me want to start. But all I remember was writing on printer paper, drawing little pictures to go with it, and even stapling it all together to show my mother. She still has it in the attic somewhere, wrapped up in my baby blanket with my favorite stuffed bear.
What do you like about writing most?
It’s hard to pinpoint one single thing that makes writing amazing. But if I had to pick, it’s the sheer emotion that can be evoked through words alone. Characters are my favorite thing to write and scenes where characters are emotional and high-charged are incredible. The sheer power writers have to be able to create a visceral reaction in readers using nothing but letters and words is indescribable. To be able to share in a single moment together no matter where we are or who we are. Reading the same words, feeling the same things, that feeling of connectedness is why I write.
Which of your stories is your favorite and why?
Without a doubt, “A Beautiful Lie” is my favorite story of mine. To be frank, I haven’t written many, and a majority that I have aren’t even finished. Perhaps that’s why this story is so special to me. It’s been going on the longest. With my hectic life schedule, most stories breeze in and out within a year. However, “A Beautiful Lie” has been going on three almost four years strong now and I couldn’t be prouder of myself. It’s hard sometimes. It’s more than hard other times. But I can always come back to it. And something about that means a lot to me.
What’s your favorite trope to write?
Found family is without a doubt my all-time favorite. Family itself is very important to me. I personally am very lucky to have a wonderful, loving, supportive family that means the world to me. But I also know that not everyone is lucky enough to have this. Sometimes, blood is nothing but pain and suffering. “Found family” is a way to circumvent that. It encapsulates the very important lesson of: blood does not make a family. Love does. Family is what you make it. And “Found family” is just so wholesome and warm. Everyone deserves love. Even the misfits and loners.
What inspired the story, A Beautiful Lie?
The main thing that inspired this story is also what inspires almost every single other author of any book ever: I couldn’t find a story I liked, so I made my own.
Over the years, I’ve consumed many different shows, movies, books, etc that all played a role in this story’s creation, such as Criminal Minds, Law and Order, Euphoria, Behind Closed Doors, The First Child, The Girl Next Door, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, House of Leaves, American Psycho, etc.
Can you tell us a little about the experience of writing it - did anything stand out or was there a particular person that helped more than others?
As stated above, the main thing that inspired “A Beautiful Lie” was that I couldn’t find another fanfiction that completely fulfilled everything I wanted to see. There were plenty of knock-outs and absolutely stunning pieces of work that I still have safely tucked away in my ‘favorites’ section of the website, but I was longing for something more. That’s when I decided to create “A Beautiful Lie”
Abuse mixed with hurt/comfort was not a new idea for the Irondad selection. However, in my opinion, it was never done the way I’d always imagined. Plot lines were wrapped up a little too easily. Villains were stale and short-sighted. Stories were good but left me wanting more. With this story, I wanted to show the gruesome, hard to read side of abuse. The real-life horrors of living with a violent father and an inescapable hell. I wanted to write about love. More specifically, I wanted to write about how even pure love can be tainted and manipulated. I wanted to show people the darker side of family. The side nobody talks about.
How did you feel to be a winner of the awards last year?
Honestly, I still can’t believe I won. It still feels like “A Beautiful Lie” is nothing more than a pass-time or a hobby I occasionally dabble in and not something over 200,000 people tune into every day. I still have to look at the traffic graph on fanfiction to even believe that’s true! Honestly, I am so honored that people actually take time out of their day to read my stuff. It makes me feel like what I do matters. What I write matters. And the fact that people cared enough to vote for me? It makes me want to cry. It makes me so excited that these awards are happening again so somebody else has the chance to feel this type of joy and excitement. Maybe it’s nothing more than some dumb internet award that means nothing in the real world. But it meant a lot to me. And I’m sure it’ll mean a lot to someone else. And for their sake and everyone else who’s ever read or written a silly little fanfiction because they were bored or because they love a character, please keep doing what you’re doing. Keep writing. Keep reading. And keep voting! Our voices matter. Our stories matter. Our words matter. We matter.
