Title: Who Are You?
Pairing: Agent JK/Bodyguard OC
Type: Drabble Series
“You know, you’ve been here 45 minutes and you haven’t even started your workout yet.”
Jungkook grunted, barely acknowledging his friend. “I’m warming up.”
Namjoon looked over to what Jungkook was looking at. The woman was barely 5 foot 5, no makeup, hair up in an ordinary ponytail. She was pretty, but not stunning. “Why don’t you go and just ask her out?”
Jungkook continued to lightly jog on the treadmill, without taking his eyes off of the woman.
“She comes in here most nights of the week, super late and punches that bag for sometimes up to two hours. Sometimes she spars with Jin hyung. She almost always wears some sort of heels when she trains. I’ve even seen her jog on a treadmill with them on.”
Namjoon just raises an eyebrow, but doesn’t interrupt.
“Any time someone has gone up to her to offer her advice or ask her out, she’s shut them down.”
“So you’ve just been watching her like a creep.”
“I have been observing her like the agent that I am.”
Namjoon laughed and clapped him the back. “So like a creep.”
“I’m just trying to gather intel.”
Namjoon shook his head and leaned on the treadmill, his back turned away from the woman. “She’s a bodyguard for one of the biggest pop idols in Korea. She lives by herself with her cat Mr. Mistoffelees and has adventurous hobbies like surfing and paragliding. She also goes to that cafe you “work” at before going to work”.
Jungkook’s eyes went wide as he turned to look at Namjoon.
“How do you know all that? And she DOES?!”
“I’ve also been observing her like the amazing agent that I am.” He paused. “Or I make conversation with her like a normal person would.”
And with that, Namjoon hit the speed button on the treadmill and walked away, as Jungkook stumbled at the sudden acceleration. He managed to avoid a catastrophic crash, but lost his footing and crashed down on a knee.
The gym goers looked over at the sudden noise, including the woman.
“I’m okay.” Jungkook said weakly, to no one in particular, and hobbled over to ice his injury.

Once Upon a Bracelet
Tumblr media
Pairing: Prince Jungkook x Sorceress Reader (Featuring Platonic Jin x Reader Friendship)
Genre: Fantasy • Soulmates • Enemies to Lovers • Fairytale
Word Count: 12.5K
Warnings: explicit sexual content • mentions of death • injury with a knife • passing mention of patricide • mentions of blood in relation to magic • literally none of this is graphic at all • I am just trying to be safe • loss of virginity • some hurt/comfort elements • social inequality and classism • pseudo-infidelity but not really •
Rating: Explicit (18+)
Summary: You were born to nothing, but your powerful craft caught the eye of a charming prince. However, his distinctly un-charming younger brother challenged your betrothal and is routinely challenging you. Jeon Jungkook is (probably) a former necromancer and (definitely) the wrong prince…
But the bracelets tell a different story.
Author’s Note: This story would not be here without the love, support and friendship of my incredible support system. You talk with me, you laugh with me, you listen when I’m crying, and you read my chaotic drafts when I am ready to pull my hair out of my head in frustration. I love you all. @ppersonna @xjoonchildx @untaemedqueen @underthejoon @lemonjoonah Special thanks to my lovely beta Hope @hobi-gif who keeps my work sharp and gives so generously of her time to help me. If I shine, its because you ladies are lighting up my life. And finally, shout-out to the lovely @wwilloww who read the very first version of this story year before we ever connected through BTS. I hope you like this new version–my brain clearly ran away with me…
Tumblr media
Content Note: In this universe a necromancer is defined as a magic user with the ability to drain and/or manipulate the life force of living beings to fuel their own power. Using life force magic temporarily grants them advanced abilities—most of which are forbidden or illegal in the Kingdom of Dionysia where this story is set. Most mages with the ability to use this type of magic do not elect to do so. Magic users in this universe are typically proficient in three to four varieties of magic generally determined by their genetic make-up (meaning you are likely to inherit the same type of magical abilities as your parents or family members).
Tumblr media
꧁ Prologue ꧂
It is said that the world of mortals contained three sacred wells where ancient magic rose up within the waters like springs from the depths of the earth.
One such well could be found in the Kingdom of Dionysia—a nation of great warriors and powerful crafters who served as its caretakers for generations.
The Dionysians called this place Sanguine Well and, as a reward for their devotion, the gods honored them with a remarkable gift…
Bonding Bracelets
—a set of unique magical artifacts used to join, identify, and empower soulmates.
On the first day of their twentieth year, Dionysian youth traveled to Sanguine Well for the ritual creation of a bonding bracelet pair.
When the appointed hour arrived, a young seeker ventured into the depths of the well and held their breath beneath its waters till the currents receded—leaving a bracelet pair behind.
One bracelet formed fully clasped around their wrist. The other remained open and would only close for the seeker’s destined mate.
Naturally the people of Dionysia did not take the gift of bonded soulmates lightly…
All proposed matches were registered and approved by the Ruling Council before an open bracelet could even be tried on by a potential partner and both parties were required to present evidence of their commitment to one another.
If the alliance was approved, the betrothed pair participated in a public ceremony where the first seeker’s intended would activate the bond by placing the open bracelet around their wrist.
When an unclaimed bracelet united with its true owner, the open ends stretched and intertwined to form a rune.
From that moment on, the seeker and their soulmate were blood bonded in a supernatural union of their hearts, powers, and abilities that was—to all known craft—unbreakable.
Dionysia believed that this care and reverence honored the craft and the gods, thereby allowing the sacred tradition to continue.
In 900 years of recorded history, only five bonding ceremonies ended with a bracelet that did not close.
Now there were six…
꧁ Once Upon a Time ꧂
“Jin!”
Your voice echoed through the elegant corridors of Solemn Truth Palace as you chased after your betrothed. “I’m sorry! I—”
Jin whirled on you, shaking his head vehemently.
“None of this is your fault.”
“There are many reasons why this could’ve happened,” you offered breathlessly.
“There’s only one reason why this happens.”
He sighed and you rubbed your temples in frustration.
“I don’t understand… The Council gave permission.”
The Ruling Council was a sovereign governing body of three kings and three queens—one monarch from each of Dionysia’s six royal bloodlines.
“The Council isn’t all knowing…” Jin collapsed against a nearby wall. “This is a disaster,” he whispered.
And it was.
You had no family, but all of your friends and colleagues from the Academy were there.
Jin was technically an orphan as well, but his adopted family, the Jeons, were there.
Jeon Alaya was high queen of the Ruling Council, so half the kingdom was there to see the prince, her (adopted) son, bond with the craft prodigy from The Wastes.
Half the kingdom, but not her blood. Not her youngest son…
The two of you were silent for several moments as you struggled to process the shock.
“Do you think the rumors—what they say about me—is true?”
Jin’s head shot up in an instant.
“No,” he swore, “they’re absolutely not true.”
Your heart warmed at his fierce defense, but after today’s debacle you were beginning to question yourself…
Whispers that ‘Wastelanders’ like yourself were citizens of no nation and loyal only to their own desires had plagued the majority of your academic and professional career.
You were forced to work twice as hard as any of your peers for each of your achievements, relying on nothing more than your natural talent and a stubborn determination to succeed in spite of the prejudice you faced.
And you did succeed.
The gatekeepers of Dionysian society may have sneered at your background, but the powerful craft in your veins and the mastery with which you wielded it earned you undeniable respect and acclaim.
Yet—even then—you were still an outsider.
A strange girl with strange magic.

on the road (to you)
Tumblr media
— as a young adult, one of the strangest revelations is the discovery that peers of yours from past fragile college years are getting married. so imagine your shock and excitement upon receiving a wedding invitation. there are, however, two problems: (1) you are a poor early-20s recently employed adult just beginning to adjust to your 401k plan, and (2) the only available ride to the wedding comes in the form of Jeon Jungkook—friend of a friend, attendee to that aforementioned wedding, and your old college crush.
[ PAIRING ] :: jungkook x fem!reader
[ GENRE ] :: roadtrip au, strangers to lovers au + fluff/angst
[ WORD COUNT ] :: 27k
[ WARNING ] :: recreational alcoholic consumption, definitely not an accurate representation of how a road trip might actually be, mentions of anxiety + insecurities, very minor book reference to: The Night Circus, equally minor movie references to: Mission Impossible and The Princess Bride because I have a problem, light makeout sessions, talks of DTR (define the relationship), some angst but this is me so there’s a happy ending.
[ NOTE ] :: a birthday present for the one and only Jeon Jungkook, whom I love and respect so much and only wish the bestest of days for. Partly inspired by Taylor Swift’s song “invisible string” +  a love letter of sorts to my own old high school crush for whom my memory of him helped build Jungkook’s character. This also turned out way longer than I ever wanted it to be lol oops!
[ UPDATE ] :: i was actually able to do a writer’s audio tag on this fic!!! check it out if you want to hear about the behind the scenes process that went into writing this fic <3

New Chapter - It Was You - 5
<> It Was You
<> Jungkook x named reader
<> Kim Yuna was used to being overlooked in favour of her siblings, which is why she excelled at her job as a video game developer. When she meets Jeon Jungkook, it seems like they bond over the fact that they are living in their siblings shadows. But what can she do when he doesn’t recognize her from their one night stand? How can she let him know it was her?
<> in progress
Jungkook ran his hand through his hair for what seemed like the hundredth time that hour. Artists could be so indecisive, he thought to himself, as he tried to revise the floor plan yet again for one of the artists that they were going to showcase next month.
"You look so sexy when you're deep in thought." A voice came from the doorway.
He looked up and blinked, not expecting to be interrupted. His eyes grew wary. "Sora."
She straightened up from the doorway and came towards him. "I would have thought that you'd be happier to see me." She purred, going around the back of his chair. She ran a hand over his shoulder and came around and sat in the chair in front of him, crossing her legs.
"What do you want, Sora?" He sighed.
She pouted. "Is that how you greet an old friend?"
"Is that what we are?"
Sora's eyes sharpened for a moment before it was gone. "Of course." She said softly, coming back around. She gently nudged her chair and settled into his lap. He didn't push her away. "I had feelings for you." She let her voice hitch slightly. "I think that I might still." She dipped her head and nipped at his neck, finding a soft spot that she knew he liked sucked.
His hands remained on the arms of the chair he was in. He sighed and put his hands on her arms, firmly pushing her off his lap and guiding her towards the door. "I'm not interested anymore, Sora. I'm not going to fall for this again."
She got angry. "I know you still want me, Jungkook. We were great together. In bed, and out." She put her hands on his chest. "I realize that it wasn't Namjoon oppa that was the one for me. It was always you. I was just too dumb to realize it." She fisted her hands in his hair and crushed her mouth to his.
He put his hands in his pockets and fisted them.
"Ahem." Came from the doorway. Sora quickly let go and scooted behind Jungkook grabbing onto his arm. "I'm sorry to interrupt." Lucy said, not sounding very sorry at all. "But I have a few documents to go over with Mr. Jeon."
Sora turned to Jungkook, "I'll call you later, and we can continue our...talk." She said, picking up her purse.
Jungkook didn't move. "Don't call me anymore, Sora. We were done a long time ago and I'm not looking to pick things up again now."
Sora's demeanor changed right in front of him. "You're only rejecting me because your brothers have brought you into the fold, and now you think you're so great. They only want you because of your hyungs." She spat.
Jungkook looked at her sadly. "So did you."
Her eyes widened, and she stomped out of the room in her expensive heels.
Jungkook rubbed a hand over his face. He wasn't in love with her anymore, but the words still stung. He looked up at Lucy still at the door. "What do we need to go over?" He asked.
Lucy was watching the angry woman leave the building. "Nothing." She said with a smile. "I thought maybe you needed an excuse."
He chuckled. "Thank you, Lucy. I'm sorry that you have to run interference."
"Part of the job." She chuckled, and went back to her desk.
He sat down, unable to get Sora's words out of his head.
**********
"You're a hit!" Jungkook yelled, so he could be heard over the din.
"Always a team effort." Yuna replied, as he swept her up in a big hug.
"I'm so pround of you." He said, putting his forehead against hers. She gazed at his lips, thinking that they looked like they wer moving closer.
"We did it!" Someone yelled nearby, and the two were crushed into a bearhug. The body quickly went away to give more hugs and Hobi came up to them. He tipped his glass.
"We're up next."
Yuna nodded. She didn't noticed that Jungkook had interlaced his fingers with hers until she needed to pull away. SHe squeezed his fingers and pulled her hand away. He pulled her back in and gave her a peck on the lips. "Good luck."
She looked taken aback, and just smiled. She went to follow Hobi to the side of the stage, and Jungkook went to watch with Tae and the others.
A body came out of nowhere and knocked into Yuna. She went crashing to the floor.
"Omg, are you okay?"
Yuna pulled herself up and took off her glasses. They were twisted beyond repair. "Well, these are done."
"Yuna, are you okay?" Hobi asked again, touching her elbow. She squinted at him. "Can you direct me to the washroom? I have to put my contacts in , or I won't be able to see anything."
They quickly went to the restrooms, and Yuna was relieved that she always carried backups with her."
"How do I look?" She asked, coming out.
"Great. Now let's go!"
They made it to the stage just as their names were called.
Yuna was a confident speaker. Years of travelling with her sisters and attending events, and later the success of her first game meant that she had lots of practice.
But she stumbled when she found Kook in the crowd. He was watching her with an unreadable expression. She pushed down her feelings of unease and continued. She'd have to decipher it later.
**********
Hobi and Yuna were stopped multiple times before they could get back to their group. Jungkook was off to the side, flirting with a bombshell in a red dress. She went up to him. "Kook?"
He didn't turn.
"Kook?" She said again, louder.
"Can't you see he's talking to me?" The woman asked her.
"It's okay." He said lazily. He handed her a keycard. "I'll see you in a little bit?"
The woman smiled and sauntered away.
"What was that about?" Yuna asked. "I thought we were..." She couldn't get the words out.
"Have sex? F***? I changed my mind." He took a drink. "How did it feel to make a fool of me?"
"What?"
"It was you. That night after Jin-hyung's engagement party." He casually reached out and took her wrist. He ran his finger lightly over the cuff and unbuckled it. Her tattoo came into view. A long sword with the initials DR, all within a circle of fire. Dragon Rider. In reference to her first professional success. "You have no idea how many times I dreamed of your eyes, with the blue contacts, and this tattoo." He put the cuff back in her hand and let go. "And all this time you must have been laughing at me."
"No."
"Are you saying you don't remember that night?"
"Of course I do." She said, frustrated. "When was I supposed to bring it up? When you showed up at work? Or at the tasting?"
He wasn't convinced.
"You knew I was looking for you!"
She felt defeated. "Did I? You only told me a short while ago. Besides, you didn't even recognize ME."
They both stood there, staring at each other.
Tae came up to them. "We're heading out."
"Me too." Jungkook said, his eyes still on Yuna. He nodded to Tae and headed to the elevator lobby, alone.
**********
Yuna absently rubbed her wrist tattoo. It was close to midnight, and with everything handed over, she finally had some time to catch up on paperwork. Her eyes caught the Doraemon sitting on her shelf, not moving, since the sun wasn't out.
"Look what I got you!" Kook said excitedly. "It's a dancing Doraemon! He gets his power from the sun." He had put the little figuring on her desk, and sure enough, it started wiggly back and forth due to solar power. He giggled.
"I love it! But you didn't have to."
"I wanted to. You spend so much time in this cubicle, I thought that you could use a few knick knacks to make you smile during crunchtime...
She picked up a double-walled glass, the inside glass in the shape of a cat's paw, so it looked like a cat had stuck its paw into your drink.
"You love cats, and since Namjoon hyung was clumsy and broke one of your glasses at home, I got you a replacement."
Slowly, other memories started crowding in.
"Where do you want to eat tonight? I heard that there's a new mixology bar that's open, do you want to try it?" He asked.
"But you hate those kinds of places."
"Well," He rubbed the back of his neck. "I do. But if you like them, we can go."
She cocked her head. "I think you know me well enough by now to know if I like those kinds of places or not."
He smiled shyly. "Okay, it's that little food stand on the way back to your place for a movie it is."
Late night dinner and a movie.
He had fallen asleep on her couch again. She considered leaving him there, but he had complained about being achy the last time he slept on her couch.
"Come on, Kook. Let's get you into bed. Come on." She coaxed him, like she would an unsure puppy. He slowly made his way to her guest bedroom, and she was tucking him in when "You should stay with me."
She stilled at his words, but caught herself and continued to tuck him in. "I'll see you in the morning." She replied, brushing some hair out of his face. His hand caught her wrist, "Stay." He said, not opening his eyes.
"I'll just be down the hall."
"Too far."
"Good night, Kook."
Even events that they would attended together to beat boredom
"You don't have to come with me, it's just a small fundraiser that I started doing with Jin-hyung. There's going to be no media there." He said, tying his tie.
"All the more reason to keep you company." Yuna said, helping him straighten it."
And then this,
He sounded like a teenager who was told he could stay out all night for the first time. "We can...you know, hang out, after the release party. You know, just the two of us. I mean, if you want to. I got us a suite."
She laughed. "We hang out all the time."
"Yes, but I thought that we'd do something special. You know, since you're going to be a hit and we should celebrate that."
She thought that they were friends. She didn't dare hope that he had developed feelings for her, but when he mentioned getting them a suite to celebrate just the two of them after the release party, she couldn't suppress the giddiness. He was the first person in a long time where she could be herself, where she could let her guard down. She didn't have to pretend to be interesting, or beautiful, or worldly. She could just be her.
And now that was gone. Stupid, stupid for getting attached. It never ended well. She should have kept him at arms length from the beginning. She stared out the window at nothing. Part of her did feel slightly guilty that she had not mentioned it to him when he confessed to her that he was looking for her, and she kept turning over every encounter after that, thinking maybe that had been an opening where she could have told him, but nothing came to mind. They didn't have a chance to be alone since that day, and she didn't think it appropriate to let him know in front of others, even Tae.
She reached for her phone. Maybe there was one last thing she could do for him to ease her guilt, and then she could move on.
**********
Jungkook stepped into the apartment at 3am. He was surprised to see Namjoon up. "Why are you still up?"
"I was waiting for you."
Jungkook studied his brother. "You didn't have to do that."
"No, but you've been out every night since the release party." Namjoon poured himself a glass of water and waited, leaning against the counter. "You never go out that much."
Jungkook sighed and braced himself against the counter. "That girl that I've been obsessing over...It's Yuna."
Namjoon just raised an eyebrow.
Jungkook proceeded to tell his hyung about his revelation from the release party, and the details of their exchange afterwards.
Joon just listened and considered.
"I mean, she could have told me, right? We were working closely together and spending so much time in each other's company. She was probably laughing at me the entire time."
Namjoon looked up at that. "Do you really think so?"
"Why else would she not say anything except to make me look like a fool or use me to get to you?"
Namjoon shook his head. He knew that Jungkook had had a rough time of it growing up, but didn't realize that his brother still held onto some of those feelings.
"Sora also stopped by to see me at the gallery the other day."
Now some pieces were beginning to fall into place. "You shouldn't listen to what she says."
"I didn't exactly go looking for her."
"No, but her words effected you. And made you doubt Yuna."
The small thread of hope that he had been holding onto to validate his feelings were slipping away. He knew he was being unfair. He knew that he had let Sora mess with his head.
"The truth is you didn't recognize her, Kook. Maybe it was a blow to her ego too. And you said that you didn't mention this mystery girl you were looking for until recently. How in the world was she supposed to fess up at this point, so far into your friendship?" He started walking to his room and stopped when he got next to Jungkook. "Get some rest. Clear your head. Then you can think about how to fix this, if that's what you want to do."
Jungkook stood there alone in the dim lighting of the kitchen. Somewhere along the way, even though he had been looking for his one night stand, he had been slowly developing feelings for Yuna. He had denied it to his hyungs, and thought that saying it out loud would keep the feelings at bay, but he finally realized that he was an idiot for denying something right in front of him, while he chased a memory.
He rubbed his hands over his face. Joon was right, he need to get some rest and think about this more when he wasn't exhausted.

Taehyung fidgeted his hands and couldn't seem to focus.  Yuna knocked her knuckles on the side of his head.  "Are you even listening to me?"
He blinked and looked at her.  "Sorry, I'm just a bit distracted."  He muttered.
"I can see that."  She stirred her tea.  "How are things with Sooyoung?"
"They're good."
"Are they?"
He looked back at her.  "What do you mean by that?"
Yuna sighed.  "Tae, we've been friends since we were in diapers.  You know you can tell me anything.  What's going on?"
He sighed and looked at her.  He took a piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to her.
She looked at him quizzically, and unfolded the paper.  Her eyes widened.  She gaped at him.  "Oh my God, you're going to do it!"

It Was You - Chapter 3
*Please no reposting any of this story.  I don’t own BTS or any of their characters
"So you're back for good then?" Jimin asked, as the bartender put their drinks in front of them.
Jungkook nodded.
"I'm happy for you, Kook. You're finally being accepted."
Jungkook took a sip of his drink. "I guess."
Jimin rolled his own glass in his hands. "Your hyungs are fair. They're making things right for you."
He couldn't argue against that. Even though his stepfather didn't acknowledge him, his stepbrothers had done what they could to help him along. He couldn't have asked for more.
Jimin smiled. "Maybe we can do some joint work between the dance academy and the art gallery in the future."
Jungkook smiled back. "That would be nice." He looked at his friend. "How are things between you and Rose?"
Jimin bit his lip. "It's complicated."
"We've all known each other forever, hyung. Why so shy?"
"She knows everything about me."
"Isn't that a good thing?"
"Yeah...or a terrifying thing. I don't know. We'll see." He brushed it off...again. Jimin smiled slyly. "That girl Rose and I saw you with the other evening is pretty."
Jungkook looked at his friend. "She's off-limits."
"Really? I didn't see any branding."
"I work with her. She's off-limits."
"That's never stopped us before." Jimin said thoughtfully. "Are you interested in her?"
"No." Jungkook said, perhaps a bit too quickly.
But Jimin knew him too well to have missed that. "That's too bad." Jimin said. He'd let that go...for now. "See those 3 girls at the corner of the bar?"
Jungkook didn't even look up from his glass. "The ones with the shimmery dresses?"
Jimin smiled widely. "One thousand dollars to whomever can take 2 out of 3 home."
Jungkook smiled wolfishly. He paused when a pair of blue eyes flashed in his mind. He downed the rest of his drink. "Two thousand to the one who can get all 3."
"Deal."
**********
"I'm so happy that you could come with me to the menu tasting last minute."
"Happy to help." Yuna said brightly. She adjusted her oversized sweater. "But shouldn't you be doing this with Jin-oppa?"
"He had a last minute emergency. Hence, the last minute ask." Celia explained.
The chef came out to greet them, obviously smitten with Celia. Yuna didn't mind. She had spent her whole life with people telling her how beautiful her sisters are, and they were. But Yuna also knew that being known for your beauty took a lot of work and
discipline, even if you were naturally attractive in the first place.
Yuna shifted in her seat when Celia brightened at someone behind her.
"I'm sorry, sweetie." A voice said, and Jin came around to give her sister a hug from behind.
Yuna immediately stood up.
"I thought you couldn't make it." Celia asked, holding his hand.
"Namjoon said that he'd take care of it for me."
Celia smiled. "Thank him for me." She looked up at someone still behind Yuna. "Kook. So nice to see you again."
Yuna's eyes widened and she turned around.
Jungkook looked as surprised to see her as she was him.
"What are you doing here?" They asked at the same time.
Celia and Jin exchanged glances. "Do you know each other?"
"We're friends. We work together." Jungkook replied.
"Are you serious?" Jin asked.
"What do you mean?" Yuna said, incredulously.
"Jungkook is my youngest brother."
"And Yuna is my youngest sister." Celia put in.
Jungkook and Yuna just gaped at each other.
"But...he's..." Yuna couldn't get the words out.
The chef came to the table with the appetizers to taste. Yuna quickly gestured to Jin to take her vacated seat. The chef waved a server over to seat Yuna and Jungkook at a nearby table.
"Oh no, that's okay." Yuna said, knuckles white as she picked up her purse. "This is their deal."
"But I made you miss breakfast so that you'd be able to do this with me." Her sister insisted. She caught her sisters arm and steered her and Jungkook towards the table. "Just sit, and enjoy. We'll take care of it."
Celia left the two of them. Yuna sat with her back straight, eyes wide. Jungkook fiddled with his watch.
"So."
"So." He returned. "This is kind of cool."
What?!?!?!
"You know, we'll be kind of related."
Yuna paled. Oh my God. And we slept together what does that make us? But we're not blood related, so it should be okay. OMGOMGOMG. Why isn't he panicking? Of course! He doesn't know. He doesn't even recognize that it was me. Wait...
"But your last name isn't Kim." She pointed out slowly.
He reddened. "It's a long story."
"I have time. At least 5 courses of time."
He fiddled with his watch again.
She pushed her panic away as she picked up her fork as an old news item came into her mind. "Jeon." She said thoughtfully. "The mining family." Her gaze sharpened as she looked at him. "You're the lost prince."
His face hardened at the reference.
She realized what she said and put a hand on his. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..."
He sighed. "It's okay. The media had a field day with that one."
She started recalling parts of the story in her mind. She would have been too young to know, but she remembered her mother talking to her aunties about the high society gossip. She seemed to remember that Jungkook had been the only son of the eldest
son of a generations old mining family. Mega wealthy. When he passed away prematurely, his brothers fought over who would run the empire. The will had stated that Jungkook would inherit everything, but being 10-years-old, with uncles who had vulture-
like lawyers on retainer, Jungkook and his mother was kicked out with little more than the shirts off their backs.
His father had been close friends with the patriarch of the Kim family, whose money was made from hotels and other hospitality ventures. He had been widowed himself for barely a year when he married Jungkook's mother. That in itself had caused a
scandal, since the runour had been that he had wanted her for himself when they were young, but she had chosen Jungkook's father. Jungkook's stepfather was a prideful man, and even though he was never antagonistic towards the boy, he was not
accepting either. To try to protect her son from the media, she sent him away to school in Europe and North America, only coming home for the holidays.
Unlike Seokjin, Namjoon, and Mingi who had received money for all of the best education, this was not extended to Jungkook. So his mother saved everything she could so that he would receive a good education.
"It doesn't sound like he was particularly extravagant with your mother either."
Jungkook shrugged. "He was frugal overall. My mother said that it was because he was poor growing up."
"It must have been tough."
He nodded. "I would come home for holidays and summers, and at first, it seemed that everyone was welcoming, but I gradually learned that people only wanted to be my friend to get to my hyungs, who had taken the stance of being my protectors. Guys
and girls would try to make friends, and then ask to be introduced to them. That was a hard lesson."
"Yeah." Yuna said softly, thinking of her own childhood. "You must have made some friends who like you for you."
Jungkook grinned. "Rose? That girl that we saw the other evening? Her and Jimin and I grew up together. The three of us and Hanul, who's working in Paris at the moment." His expression softened as he thought back. "We got into a lot of trouble the
summers I was home. Because they were here all the time, eventually it got to the point where they would just tell me if someone was befriending me for me or my hyungs."
"How often were they right?"
"Often enough for me to believe them."
Yuna put her fork down as the next course was brought over.
Jungkook looked sheepish. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to dump on you. I don't usually tell people about my childhood, but you're really easy to talk to."
She smiled. "That's okay. I grew up to be a pretty good listener."
"I can tell."
Yuna tried one bite of the steak and pushed it away.
"Do you not like it?" Jungkook asked.
"It's delicious, but I'm getting full and there's still more food coming." SHe caught him eyeing the steak. "Would you like to finish it? If you don't mind that I took a bite of out it."
He smiled widely, showing his teeth.
She laughed and switched their plates.
"Thanks." He said sweetly, as he dug in.

Jin and Jungkook were riding back to their offices together after the menu tasting.
"So what did you think of the food?"
"It was delicious, hyung. Thanks for inviting me to tag along."
Jin glanced at the maknae. "Seems like the food wasn't the highlight."
"What do you mean, hyung?" Jungkook asked, confused.
"Yuna. You two seemed to get along really well."
He smiled. "We do! But it might be because we also work together. She's a developer at HopeWorld Games."
Jin looked thoughtful. "You know, I didn't even think to put two and two together. She's the prodigy that came up with that video game while she was in university, right? Something with dragons?"
"Yes, hyung. That's her! She's really great. For someone who got so much recognition when she was young, she's really down to earth."
"That's true. I heard that she also got the hard end of it being the sister of beauty queens too, though."
"How so?"
"Seems like she had a few boyfriends who actually had their eye on her sisters. One in particular that she may have had feelings for even."
Jungkook was silent. He knew how that felt. "Sounds like the three of them of really close though."
"They are. I don't know Yuna as well as Grace, but everything I heard makes her sound like a great person."
"She is, hyung." Jungkook confirmed, vouching for her.
Jin smiled. "Are you interested in her, Kook?"
Jungkook smiled shyly. "I do like her, but I'm not sure in that way. I'm still thinking of someone else..."
"Ah." Jin recalled. "The mystery girl from the engagement party."
Jungkook blushed. "Have your photos come in yet?"
"No, the photographer got sick so there is a delay in getting them edited. He also took a lot, so it's taking a while." He looked at Jungkook. "There were a lot of people there. She may not be in any of the pictures, and even if she is she may have been a plus 1." He warned, trying not to get Jungkook's hopes up.
Jungkook got a glint in his eye. "Maybe, maybe not. After all, she left with me, right?"
