The Chiori Wishing Saga
It's time.
31,022 Primogems. 1,860 Genesis Crystals. 41 Masterless Starglitter. And 42 Intertwined Fates. All combined: 255 wishes for Chiori. Current pity counter is 5. Let's do this.
Just for fun: I'm playing a wishing game as well. I roll two d10, and if the result is 94 or higher, I make a batch of 10 wishes. If not, I only wish once. Why? Well, hypothetically the odds of getting a 5-Star in any given 10 pulls is 6%.
Alright, first Chiori at 23 pity. Rolled a 95 and instantly got her. Off to a great start here, maybe I'm onto something with my dice shenanigans.
Tumblr media
Weapon banner: Uraku Misugiri at 16 pity. Easy game, wow.
Tumblr media
Second Chiori at 58 pity. Oh, we're eating good.
Tumblr media
74 pity: Jean'd. C9, by the way. Unfortunate, but this means I now have C2 Chiori guaranteed with just my freemogems. Speaking of which, I got her at 77 pity. 51 Intertwined Fates left at this point.
Ran out of free wishes, so now I'm buying my remaining double top-ups to restock. Unfortunately I get Mona'd at 78, then it takes me until 75 pity to get Chiori again. Pretty average RNG so far, except for the first few wishes, which were quite lucky.
83 to get Tignari'd, oof. Not winning a lot of 50/50s here, which is unfortunately the key to saving money, since you can rarely expect it to take fewer than 75 to 80 wishes to get a 5-Star. Well, I still have plenty of spare cash, so I'll keep on keeping on. It takes me 82 more wishes to get to C4, so even my soft pity luck is looking pretty rough right now.
C5 Chiori at 76! That's more like it. Coming into the final stretch here. Just one more 50/50 to pass and we're golden... except I get Diluc'd at 46 pity. Y'know what, I'll take that. At least it wasn't 80+ again.
So, in the end I get C6 Chiori in 80 more wishes, having made 768 total. A bit worse than average, but better than expected; the statistical average is 650 wishes for a C6 5-Star. But for a small sample size like mine, that's fairly unlikely. You'd actually expect a lot more in that case. All things considered, wishing for C6 Chiori and her weapon went very well, especially early on.
I am never doing this again though, lol. Chiori is the sole character to break the mold here. Of course, it's always possible that HoYo manages to create a character who appeals even more to me than Chiori, but I'm going to be much more hesitant to pull for them for a lot of reasons.
Now, I'm going to live life to the fullest with my Geo goddess. It's been fun writing about Chiori a whole bunch, but I need some time to relax and focus on other things.
Like Arlecchino. Just kidding, Arlecchino is mid.

T-minus one week until Genshin Impact Version 4.5, and Chiori's Event Wish.
It's been quite the agonizing wait this time around as I'm obviously really excited for this character. Not to mention I've been putting in an obscene amount of effort to get my funds up in preparation for her arrival.
I've got about 27,000 Primogems ready to go, and I'll probably get up to around 30,000 by the time of the update. Way more than I thought I was going to get, plus I've got some spare starglitter, Genesis Crystals, and more than 40 Intertwined Fates. All things considered I have the ability to make 240-250 wishes.
But I want C6. Which means I'll still have to spend an exorbitant amount of money most likely. Or do nothing but save for Chiori while I wait for her inevitable rerun.
Either way, C6 Chiori is something I'm committed to getting. R5... less so. Any refinement on Chiori's weapon is complete overkill at that point, but I suppose I'll consider it. Actually, if I wait long enough it'll eventually be on that new Chronicled Wish, which will make refining the weapon a lot easier. That seems to be the smartest way of going about it, since I doubt my enjoyment will be significantly affected by not having that extra 15% damage.
I'm curious how Chiori will be received by the playerbase as a whole once she's officially in the game, and how successful her Event Wish will be. She's not beating the sales of powerhouse characters like Kazuha, but I wonder how positive community perception of her will be in the end. She might just catch us off guard.

At last, we have info on Chiori's final beta update. Or, lack of an update, rather, because there were no changes lol
(Beta was delayed from Monday for unknown reasons)
This is good though. I think Chiori is fine where she's at right now, which might sound strange if you read my last post. Truth is, I've changed my mind about a couple things after engaging in a bit of theorycrafting. And the math is quite interesting...
I believe I've mentioned before that Chiori's damage output is quite high, or implied it at least. But how high, exactly? Well, if you pair her with Zhongli, you're looking at upwards of 400,000 damage per rotation, or about 20,000 DPS if you're using a 20s rotation. And that's just a conservative estimate. My personal build for Chiori gets about 527k DPR.
Because of this, I don't think Chiori is locked to mono Geo as much as people think she is. Yes, mono Geo is still her best team, but it's far from the only good one. If you like Chiori, you can use her in a double Geo core and still have a good team.
I think people are far too hung up on what the absolute best team is for every character. Which is essentially like asking Chiori to be Furina, or Nahida, and I don't think I have to tell you that's a bit unreasonable. Not every character is going to be an upgrade in a bunch of different teams, and not every character has to be.
So yeah, go nuts. If you don't want to use Chiori in mono Geo, you don't have to. Force her in whatever team you want. After all, isn't that what you should do, if you call yourself a Chiori main?
As a side note, I also calculated C6 Chiori, and she solos the entire game. No, that's not a joke. She cranks out about 70k DPS on my build, which is more than enough to crush even the hardest endgame content. That's solo Chiori. No teammates, no second doll, and she still does that much.
Now all that's left is to wait until she's finally in the game, with newfound confidence that she will demolish everything.

Have another post from this Chiori-obsessed blog:
I've been looking into some of the criticisms people have of this character, since I'd been hearing things and I wanted to know if those concerns were really valid. Long story short: they are.
People are understandably upset about the nerfs she's been receiving. It's pretty frustrating when we get characters like Neuvillette who are insane monsters, but then the devs turn around and relentlessly scrutinize and tweak others, like Chiori.
Chiori was nowhere near as strong as Neuvillette is currently and she's seemingly getting hit with nerf after nerf. It really makes you wonder if HoYo is even trying to balance the game, or if they're just playing favorites. Which, needless to say, would be incredibly unfair. Or maybe they really are just that stupid and have no idea what they're doing. Hard to say.
Anyway, this is not a doompost; rather, it's an attempt at a rational analysis of what Chiori's shortcomings are and what they mean for her success as a unit. As I said, I find most criticisms of her kit to be valid, but that doesn't mean Chiori is weak. Far from it.
The general consensus is that Chiori is a stronger version of Albedo. She has pretty much the exact same role, but she deals more damage than Albedo does, and doesn't have to deal with the cringe of her primary source of damage being killed by bosses all the time. In this sense, Chiori is a perfectly good unit who has a place in the meta.
The primary complaint isn't Chiori's power level, it's her lack of flexibility and the fact that she's essentially a rehash of an existing character. People dislike that Albedo is being powercrept, and that Chiori wasn't given a more unique design that doesn't limit her to mono Geo teams. That's all very understandable.
Now for the actual nerfs: removal of DEF snapshotting for Chiori's dolls, and of course the decrease in the burst multiplier. Plus the changes made to her Constellation in earlier beta versions. Personally I don't think these nerfs change much, although removing Chiori's ability to snapshot was cringe and the burst damage nerf seems unwarranted. 30% reduction in damage dealt is a bit much if all they wanted to do was reduce her Energy needs and make C2 better.
HoYo going out of their way to nerf the output of Chiori, when her only real strength is being able to deal a lot of damage, feels a bit like a slap in the face. Especially when they're doing that instead of addressing some of Chiori's key issues, like the lack of AoE on her dolls' attacks, or the fact that she can't reposition them because of her skill's relatively long cooldown. Not to mention, once again, her team restrictions.
What this all means is that Chiori is not a particularly good pull if you're looking to add value to your account or just trying to 36-star the Abyssal Spire for the first time. She can be pretty strong for new players, due to her raw damage that will help you breeze through early-game content, but for the average invested F2P, she's not great.
But also: if you're willing to do what it takes to make her good, Chiori will be good. It's a matter of playing her in the right team and giving her enough investment to put in work for you. If, like me, you're undeterred by Chiori's blandness and limitations, don't worry about all the doomposting. You'll be able to make her work, she's not a bad character by any means.

It's Monday, and you know what that means: more Chiori beta updates. There's a surprising amount to talk about here.
First, Chiori's burst has been... nerfed. It now costs 50 Energy instead of 60, and deals 461.376% ATK+576.72% DEF damage instead of 651.456% ATK+814.32% DEF, which amounts to a 41.2% reduction in total motion value. That's no fun. Or is it...?
Well, a lower Energy cost means a lower cooldown. Not by much, but depending on how you do your rotations, it could make a difference. It also means you don't need as much Energy Recharge, so you can build more damage, which softens the impact of the nerf a bit. And to be fair, despite its high scaling, Chiori's burst wasn't a significant portion of her total output to begin with.
C2 and C4 have also been swapped, so getting C2 now gives you Kinu dolls when you burst and C4 gives them when you use normals after using Chiori's skill. This is slightly better for those stopping at C2 because the burst summons more dolls in total, and doesn't require normals to work, so it's a greater increase in output.
The burst nerf can also be advantageous because of this, because the lower CD means you get Kinu dolls even more frequently, which of course means more damage.
Lastly, Chiori's C6 got a pretty big buff. It reduces her skill CD by 12s instead of 14.5s, but it will now trigger regardless of whether you activate Chiori's Geo infusion or swap off of her. Additionally, the Bonus DMG for her Normal Attacks has been changed from 50% ATK+180% DEF to 235% DEF, with no trigger quota.
*DPS Chiori intensifies*
So, there's no CD mentioned for the new C6 effect, implying that you can spam the shit out of it. Your skill CD is effectively 4s, and you will never run out of Geo infusion time or Normal Attacks with Bonus DMG. You can on-field your Chiori for literally as long as you want.
Honestly, the prospect of this sounds so ridiculous that I wonder if it's a mistake and HoYo forgot to enter some key information into this C6 description. But it's also the kind of thing that's worthy of being a character's C6. So I hope it is actually as silly as I think it is, and that it doesn't get changed in another beta update.
Overall thoughts: pretty positive. Losing "Chiori do the big number" is unfortunate, but well worth the other changes made to the character. I'm even more hype for the day I get C6 now.

I'm a little late to the party, but I'd like to talk about the recent changes to Chiori in the version 4.5 beta.
Project Amber still doesn't have a page for Chiori yet, so again I'm relying on HomDGCat here. The changes made are to her Constellation.
C1 no longer increases the damage dealt by her doll's coordinated attacks when you switch characters. Instead, it gives Chiori all the bonuses she would normally get from the presence of another character's Geo Construct, without that construct needing to exist, as long as you have another Geo character in your party.
This is, unfortunately, a nerf, but it does increase Chiori's flexibility. With this new C1 you're no longer gimping yourself by playing her with Geo characters that don't create constructs. Which is... fine. I'm guessing they wanted to boost Chiori's synergy with Navia. Personally, though, I don't like it.
C2 has also been nerfed: the new doll summoned by this level deals 170% of the standard doll's slash damage, rather than 300%. Will have to crunch some numbers to see what I think about this one; 300% might have been way too much. Then again, we live in a world where Nahida's C2 exists.
Finally, C4 now summons the C2 doll every 3s for 10s after burst is used, instead of every 5s for 12s. This one's actually a buff; you get one more doll than you did before and you summon them faster. Could be this one felt underwhelming before and they wanted to make C4 feel more significant.
Overall, Chiori's peak performance has been nerfed somewhat, but it's not all bad. None of these changes have any effect on her baseline (C0) performance, and there are still some positives for those wanting to invest in her. I'm probably underestimating the value of her not being glued to Zhongli/Albedo with this new C1. But I still feel that Chiori's Constellation has been devalued for her hardcore fans, since the increase in output has been dialed back.

Chiori pre-farming progress:
I've finished getting materials to level up both Chiori and her weapon. Got all my Dendrobium, all my Specter drops, Coppelia drops, and of course, enough EXP materials and Mora to get the job done.
Also have a full Husk artifact set ready for her when she comes home. It's not crazy good, but it's a healthy amount of stats. Should have a 80.9/196.5 CRIT ratio, plus a fair bit of extra DEF and some ATK.
That just leaves Talents. Still need to grind up to 114 Philosophies of Light to triple-crown our girl. Should take about 9 full days of resin on the domain, which is easily doable within the now-to-4.5 time frame.
Narwhal materials are a different matter. Unless I get exceptionally lucky I'll be a few short of 10/10/10 Talents by the time Chiori arrives. So, won't be able to max her out right away, but that's hardly a big deal.
I still wanna write that theorycrafting post, but Project Amber is slow to update. Not sure if this is usually the case with them, or if they've hit some kind of roadblock. I'd just like to confirm that what I presently know about Chiori is accurate.

"Quick" Chiori Leak Analysis
Was going to wait until this stuff was up on Project Amber, but... nope. Can't resist.
This info comes from homdgcat.wiki, and it seems pretty solid, so I'll assume they're trustworthy until further notice. There's a lot to cover here, so buckle up.
Base Stats
Chiori has 11,438 HP, 323 ATK, and 953 DEF at level 90. She gains CRIT Rate with Ascension. Her HP is on the lower side, but she's got pretty decent ATK and very high DEF, second only to Itto's, which is 6 points higher than hers. As you might have guessed, Chiori also has DEF scaling.
Normal Attack
Chiori's normals are pretty... normal. Fairly in line with most other characters, but there isn't a lot of variation amongst Sword users in this regard. I would say hers are slightly stronger than average, though.
Elemental Skill
Chiori's skill deals damage and summons a doll that acts as a melee turret, periodically attacking nearby enemies. It attacks every 3.6s and deals a moderate amount of damage (147.7% ATK + 184.7% DEF at Talent level 10).
Assuming the doll attacks immediately after being summoned, it will attack five times over the course of its 17s duration. The ability has a 16s CD, so 100% uptime.
Also, if a Geo construct is nearby when she uses it, Chiori's skill summons two dolls instead of one. So right away, we have an idea of who she wants to be played with: other Geo characters who create constructs. I'm not sure if Chiori's doll itself is a construct, but if Ushi is a construct then I suspect it is.
Elemental Burst
A single-hit, AoE attack that deals a bunch of damage and costs 60 Energy. How much damage? 651.5% ATK + 814.3% DEF. Taken at face value, this would be the highest-scaling single hit ability in the game, excluding Eula's burst. In other words, Chiori do the big number.
Passive Talent: "Tailor-Made"
Chiori's first Ascension passive is where things get interesting. After using her skill, Chiori can activate one of two effects by either using her skill again, or performing a Normal Attack.
If she uses her skill, she will automatically switch out for the next character in your party. And, for 8 seconds afterward, any party member who hits with their normals will trigger an additional attack from Chiori's doll. It deals the same damage as Chiori's skill, has a trigger limit of 2, and has a 2s CD.
That's a sizeable chunk of damage: 268.7% ATK + 335.9% DEF, twice. I'm unsure if the trigger limit is separate for each doll or if it's shared between them. We'll see about that. The switching characters thing is completely unique, and I wonder if you could bypass the normal character-switching cooldown with this.
Now, if you opt to use a Normal Attack after skill instead, Chiori gets a Geo infusion. Not very exciting, I know, but this is still interesting because you can choose how you want to play Chiori. It's pretty clear that switching off of her is the optimal play pattern, but if you want to on-field Chiori, go for it.
Other Passive Talents
Chiori's other passives are much less complicated. The fourth Ascension passive grants her 20% Geo DMG for 20s when a party member creates a Geo construct. Always nice to get extra damage.
Then, her final Passive Talent: your whole party gets 10% Movement SPD as long as any character is wearing a non-default costume or a non-default wind glider. That's right: fashion is now meta.
Constellation
Finally, we come to the Constellation levels. The whale bait, if you will. Or the Rapifessor bait, same diff.
The first level increases the AoE of Chiori's dolls' attacks by 50%, and increases the damage of their additional attacks from Tailor-Made: from 100% of her skill's damage to 220%. Starting off pretty strong.
Constellation level 2 lets Chiori summon yet another doll when triggering the effects of Tailor-Made. This one attacks once, deals 300% of the dolls' normal damage, then disappears. You can summon it up to three times within an 8s window, once per second, whenever a character hits with their normals. Another good one.
Levels 3 and 5 are the usual skill/burst level boosts, with the skill coming first.
Level four is... more dolls. They're the same ones added by level two, but this time they're summoned by Chiori's Elemental Burst, once every 5s. Quite a lot of Geo spam happening by now.
So, what's the final level? Enabling DPS Chiori, of course. By going the infusion route after using her skill, skill CD is reduced by 14.5s (so you can use it again almost immediately)and her normals get increased damage equal to 50% of her ATK plus 180% of her DEF. Lasts for 5s or 5 hits, and you can do this once every 15s.
Usually when I really like a character, their Constellation either isn't crazy good or it's only really good up to a point. That is not the case with Chiori, and now you know why I want to simp for her so bad.
Signature Weapon
Speaking of simping, we got signature weapon leaks, too.
Chiori's is a 542 Base ATK, 88.2% CRIT DMG sword with the following passive: 16% Normal/Charged/Plunging Attack DMG while on-field, 24% Elemental Skill DMG when not. But when a party member deals Geo DMG, these bonuses are doubled for 15s. Then you get 20% DEF in addition to all that.
That is a lot of stats. 32% DMG to normals or 48% DMG to skills, plus 20% DEF, plus 88.2% CRIT DMG. I decided to compare this weapon to two of the best Swords in the game: Primordial Jade Cutter and Mistsplitter Reforged.
PJC doesn't even come close. It's like if Chiori's signature weapon just gave you DEF and nothing else. Mistsplitter, meanwhile, is actually somewhat comparable for an on-field Chiori. It becomes considerably worse off-field, though.
So the signature is easily Chiori's de facto best-in-slot. She's got some decent 4-Star options, but I'll go into more detail on those in a theorycrafting post.
The Verdict
With that, it's time to wrap up this way-too-goddamn-long post.
On paper, Chiori looks pretty damn good. I don't know if she's the savior of Geo or anything, but the element definitely needs more options, and more of an identity around constructs. Chiori seems to be a step in the right direction.
I'm sure there will be a handful of caveats to work around and some things Chiori will struggle with. Unfortunately, it's impossible to discern these things without hands-on testing. There could also be changes to her numbers and abilities before release.
But I'm feeling optimistic, and Chiori's shortcomings likely won't matter to me, especially since I might be aiming for C6 at some point. Looking forward to making her the most lethal beauty in Genshin Impact.

Yeah... I think I'm gonna start spending on Genshin again.
It was easy before, when I was completely apathetic towards the game and wanted to teach HoYo a lesson by refusing to spend until they showed that they cared by fixing their damn mistakes. But it's been a year and it's clearly not working.
Ironically, the recent drama surrounding CNY rewards (three Intertwined Fates. THREE) has caused me to come full circle, as I now feel that it doesn't matter whether I spend or not. And if that's the case, I might as well. That is, if I want to.
And I do, I admit it. Chiori has got me feeling some type of way, to the point that I legitimately want to C6 her. Not immediately, necessarily, but at some point. I've seen some leaks, which I'll talk about soon enough.
I'm not going back to collecting characters, though. Skipping 5-Stars that I don't really care for will save me money and I see no point in "completing" my account anymore. I'm going to focus on the characters I enjoy, instead of pulling for and building a character just for the sake of building them.
Apologies to those of you who may be disappointed by my... "relapse." But I'd like to enjoy playing Genshin Impact, and at the moment, F2P just ain't doin' it for me.

Chiori, eh?
Tumblr media
This lovely lady left quite the impression on me during the Roses and Muskets event. That bored yet cool expression, that sharp tongue, and now her official artwork. It evokes both beauty and deadliness.
This is one of those designs that's enough to make me excited for the character on its own, and I already liked Chiori. I am down bad for this girl. She even appears to dual-wield swords like Alhaitham does.
I love how she seems like she's tired of everyone's bullshit. She's a straight man in the world of memetic characters that is Genshin Impact, which is refreshing and very much needed.
Now I regret not logging in or playing very frequently over the past couple of weeks. I'm not sure if I'll have enough Primogems to wish for her when the time comes. Anyway, I will be looking at leaked details of Chiori's kit and preparing for her arrival.
HoYo, it seems, has made Version 4.4 a difficult patch for me. I don't want to give them any more money, but I also want the Ganyu and Shenhe outfits, and I may struggle to afford Chiori with freemogems alone.
This really do be an oof.

Navia First Impressions
Been using Navia's Test Run to get a sense of how her skill's damage scales with stacks of Crystal Shrapnel, and... it's a little wonky.
As you'd expect, Navia's skill deals progressively more damage the more shrapnel she has. It deals double damage with three or more shrapnel. But that damage is not double the amount dealt at zero shrapnel.
Once I crunched the numbers, I found out why: using Test Run Navia's stats, I got a much lower damage number than what her skill actually hit for. In fact, that damage number is pretty exactly off by a factor of 1.2. Then I realized the damage at three shrapnel was double the number I calculated.
So Navia's skill off rip hits for 1.2x its actual ability scaling for... some reason. I calculated it with one and two shrapnel as well, got 1.4x and 1.666x respectively. Again, I have no idea why it works this way.
But this means Navia hits harder than you might expect with fewer than three Crystal Shrapnel. Not that this matters much, as ideally you'll always fire her skill with three or more, and at that point the numbers stop being weird.
Putting that aside now, I'm finding Navia extremely satisfying to play. She doesn't have a proper build yet, but I've got her on some placeholder artifacts, level 10 skill Talent, and Sacrificial Greatsword (that weapon is lowkey really good on her if you have it R5, definitely check it out). It's really fun, dashing into enemy camps and utterly laying waste to them with a shit ton of frontloaded damage.
I wanted to get Verdict, but Navia ate nearly all of my 21k+ Primogems, leaving me with only 20 wishes to throw at weapons. Unsure if I'm willing to scrounge for primos just for her weapon, it's only slightly stronger than R5 Serpent's Spine.

After a week or so of grinding, I finally have my "Oops, All Skill Bots," also known as the All Archon Auto-Combat team up and running.
I would have liked to get another 5-Star Elemental Mastery artifact for the Raiden Shogun. I had to complete her Flower of Paradise Lost set with a 4-Star artifact, but honestly, it's good enough. Barring substats, you only lose out on 48 EM with a 4-Star artifact versus a 5-Star. And since my Furina has Key of Khaj-Nisut, she was reaching over 1,000 EM anyway, so the extra 48 wouldn't make a huge difference.
Team build is pretty simple. Zhongli is on max shield strength (HP stack + Tenacity of the Millelith), the Raiden Shogun as I just mentioned is on a full EM build, Nahida is on Deepwood Memories and max damage, and Furina is on Golden Troupe, again max damage.
As someone who just wants to fuck around and vibe while exploring, I can confirm that this team is absolutely worth it to build. It's also really funny to watch bosses die from you pressing E a few times.
Surprisingly, I still have things I want to do after this. Since I finally have a build for Itto that I'm satisfied with, I'm going to max out Gorou so I can play that Geo team. Beyond that, I guess I'll prepare for Navia.
