Well, yeah she wouldn’t want that. Hence why she wouldn’t be bothered by Sheith because Shiro and Keith, and the rest of the Paladins are all teenagers.

But you know what else Allura wouldn’t want? People bullying and harassing others over fictional people. She would be (rightfully so) horrified and disgusted with antis trying to justify insulting, threatening and suicide-baiting people, especially over something so damn trivial like shipping.

How about you actually listen to what I am saying, and don’t perpetuate that I condone the sexual abuse of children, or anyone for that matter, when I have only said the exact opposite. Stop making these things a social issue when they're a scientific one. When people allowed mental illness and sexual orientation to become a primarily social issue, look what happened.

 Their brain chemistry means that stimuli that usually evokes the need to parent in us, evokes sexual thoughts in them. Thoughts, it doesn't mean they act on them. They have a sexual attraction, not a sexual obligation to rape. Just because I find a woman hot doesn’t mean i’m now going to proceed to fuck her, because I have something called morals that restrain me. Only 10-15% of pedophiles offend. You do not have to be a pedophile to rape a child. 

You do not get to generalise people. I don’t care about your experiences, you do not get to use that to silent me. Oh are you pulling the gay card on me to make me feel guilty, well i'll pull out my pan card too, cause now apparently I need to be as disadvantaged as possible in order to have a valid opinion.  Pedophilia is a sexual orientation towards an age group, not a sex. They aren’t necessarily only attracted to children, they can be attracted to people of other ages. My link that is ‘bullshit’, is called science. You don’t get involved in the construction of high tech space equipment, so why are you entitled to get involved in the matter of psychology and how the brain friggin works, the most complicated organ of our body? The thing that is far more complicated than any computer or device that we have invented, with billions of neurons and networks that are a result of both our genetics and experiences combined? If your ears and brain are in the slightest bit open to the world, you’ll understand that no, pedophiles do not love their thoughts. Maybe some do, and they’re disgusting, but once again you’re being a prick to generalise. Many feel guilt over what they think, they want to talk but if they do, shitheads like you will shout “you deserve to die”, so they don’t talk. They feel guilty, they stress over their thoughts, they believe themselves to be the monsters you say they are,  eventually it interferes with their day-to-day lives. Strange, I swear that deviating thoughts that cause distress and disrupt a person’s ability to function, were mentioned in something called mental illness.

And when I touched on the subject with my friend the other day, her immediate response was “they deserve to die. I know they’re born that way, but they deserve to die.” She was as stubborn as you, and even though she accepts that they are born that way, she refuses to understand it because she as a bisexual person, doesn’t want the word pedophile and orientation to be mentioned in the same sentence. Which I can empathise with, why she is sensitive, but it doesn’t justify her attitude to me.

And when society is convinced that you are already a sexual predator, that is dangerous and deserves to be exterminated, what do you do? What do you do, when you are told to die for something you cannot control, especially when the control you can obtain over your health, your own state of mind is taken from you, as the law forces professionals to give your name, the moment you admit to simply having these thoughts, but never actually following on them, committing them. What happens when that name is found, and even though you have dedicated your life to being celibate, and maybe even avoided interaction with children at all costs over the guilt and disgust you feel towards yourself, you are a monster, and you deserve to go to hell. Your friends no longer understand or love you, you cannot get a job. You have no place in the world. While their tragedies don’t justify actions towards children, it’s a blaring light as to what makes them eventually do something so awful. Regardless of your gender, race, mental state, genetics etc, at one point, when society only wants you dead and burning in hell, is it realistic to think that a person is going to remain emotionally and mentally healthy? No. I’m not defending the act of pedophilia, but I am defending those who can’t help the chemistry of the brain, and are automatically believed to be sexual predators when they’ve never and never will touch a child in such a way. 

Regardless of your experiences, I am not backing down on this. To the people who read this, who have been affected by it, I apologise. But the worst thing is to allow ourselves to be ignorant. Because those statistics, the statistics that included you, are only going to go up if we don’t seek to understand why and how.

Because someone has dismissed the purpose of messaging, and has instead decided to not only discuss our conversation in public ( which is fine ) they’ve also decided to name me (not fine), I’m now making this post. Keith-against-sheith and I had a very unproductive conversation, in which I brought up that not all pedophiles are criminals, and that they need psychological help. They’ve since mocked the issue, and ironically enough, they’ve become detrimental to their own alleged purpose of protecting minors. To Antis, why Sheith really isn’t pedophilia

-First-and yes: official, reference to ages were “five teenagers”. Some of you say that this is simply because it sounds catchier, which really is a weak argument I find, as you are arguing against proof of Shiro being a teenager, even though that would actually make us, automatically, a healthier and safer fandom. Dreamworks and Netflix are all official studios/networks, what they say is what every consumer sees. They are involved in production and the airing of the show, thye allow it to happen, so if anyone gets to be official, they do. If you’re so for supporting a safe environment, you would’ve highlighted this option (five teenagers) in a heartbeat. But you didn’t.  Instead 25 is apparently uncontested law, and hence drama.

-The official ages everyone sees. I can give you that the SDCC counts as an official video, with official members and official information. But you’re being hypocritical when you say it’s official and then proceed to ignore other official sources. That my friend, is called selective attention. Especially when the sources referring to Shiro as a teenager outnumber and in fact, outweigh the sources that don’t. “Five teenagers” is stated on Netflix. You know the show website that everyone goes on to watch awesome TV?  I personally did not see the SDCC video until maybe the end of December. Yes, I have been on tumblr quite regularly, and on the voltron tag, yet I didn’t start hearing about age discourse until December, when I saw one of my gay ships once again being called pedophillic. Yay! But back to the point, is that if a regular tumblr like myself manages to not see a ‘really’ important/significant omnipotently official source, it can be guaranteed that many others don’t. Out of the 9 million viewers who watch Voltron, only a small percentage sees your ‘divine’ video, compared to everyone who sees “five teenagers.” So tell me again which age is more official?

-”Safe zone.” Tim Hedrick was the only staff member who was involved in the first discussion, then it was brought to the producers and him again. Dos Santos said ‘safe zone’, meaning that yes, that’s probably the oldest/youngest they can be. Important to note this video did not include multiple directors, nor fellow writer Mitch Iverson.  

-Kallura and Shallura. No ship hate, but I have noticed antis do ship this combination, which is very hypocritical to me, in that Shiro is an adult when you want to feel morally superior when you say I’m disgusting for shipping sheith and should go to hell.

In conclusion, the fandom part that does the most harm are the antis. Yes, there are a few Sheith shippers out there with uncomfortable ideas, but I don’t forgive you for being an ass and telling me I support child abuse when all I want to see is two teenage boys being in love. Literally, I’m not even here for the smut stuff, I’m here for the cute/funny/sad content, not your f’ed up hate shit. Please focus your energies on real situations and real problems, not on telling users (some who are ironically minors and survivors btw) to go kill themselves for shipping ‘pedophilia’, when both characters have been officially referred to as teenagers, and the ship has received support from staff members (including ones in the video) because it is so ‘unhealthy’. The drive behind Shiro is an adult is mostly (not everyone) fueled by the need to justify why you hate Sheith and why your interpretation is better than ours, and unfortunately for us , the writer was so innocent of fandom warfare as to give you ammunition. And I am sorry for all those who have been affected by this discourse, not just to survivors, but also people who aren’t being recognised for the distress things like this can cause them (those with anxiety, those who are sensitive to homosexual relationships being associated with such things, depression etc- the latter which I am easily drawn back into whenever i feel i have escaped), those who have felt the need to ‘verify’ an opinion by talking about incredibly personal things. I’m personally okay with admitting about my depression, and how discussions like these can unfortunately, influence my mood no matter what I or others tell myself. I literally became so distressed by all the encouragements of suicide and being told i was supporting abuse that i literally became sick for the rest of the week, and so not only was I emotionally miserable, but bonus, physically miserable, it was a really shit week that I was constantly surrounding myself in Disney and Harry Potter content to feel slightly okay. 

I just wanted to share my experience for those don’t want to share theirs, just so they can have a voice, about how your actions have probably been the most harmful thing in this fandom.

I'm sorry to hear about your unpleasant incident regarding ships and pedophilia. For what it's worth, my personal experience with trying to explain that pedophiles are mentally ill people that need help has always come to a dead end of me being accused of supporting child abuse. Guess some people just don't want to exit the echo chamber and try thinking outside of tumblr's herd mentality.

And I'm sorry for your experiences as well. It's a sensitive topic, but nothing will improve for anyone if we remain silent and block important information. (I know you probably understand this but I'm reiterating for people who will view this answer) Pedophilia is considered a disorder under the DSM-5 which practically all psychologists refer to. Even if it were no longer considered an illness, doesn't change the fact that people with an attraction are aware that it is wrong, and can stop themselves. They can receive help and advice, so long as we get out of that 'echo chamber' that says every pedophile (only 10-15% offend) should die. Ignorance as always, is incredibly dangerous, and harms everyone.
