Falling Kingdoms part 1

This book starts with a glimpse into the past: blood magic, a sister's betrayal, the kidnapping of an infant and fratricide. A very chill and joyous beginning.

Wine trip

Princess Cleo, Lord Aron, and friends are traveling to the nearby kingdom of Paelsia to buy some exceptional and famous wine. These rich youngsters apparently don't really have much to do in their daily life except for partying.

Aron clearly being an alcoholic has some other behavioral problems: mainly arrogance and a lousy mouth. Oh yes, murder is on the list too. “I plan to cling to my youth and lack of responsibility,” said Aron

Cleo, the princess, is such a flat character (so far) that the Flat Earth Society is suing for copyright infringement. Apparently, Aron knows a secret that if revealed could destroy her. So she lets him do whatever his puny heart desires, including the murder of an innocent young man (which shook me) and later on, when everyone thinks he’s a hero that protected her against a savage with knuckles, she agrees to marry him. Cleo isn’t happy though and secretly loathes him.  If this secret isn’t huge or a hotdog-up-to-pudenda embarrassing, we are gonna have a problem. “Do you have any idea who I am?” said Aron “Do we care?” replied Jonas Jonas, the surviving farm boy, is set up as the revenge bringer. He always lived in poverty and committed petty crimes in order to survive and provide for the family. Hates the people from Auranos because of their easy lives. Probably will commit murder later on.

The Sister Lover

In the kingdom far north, Limeros,  lives a young man called Magnus.  He’s the prince, son of a despotic King. His father is perpetually displeased with him and his mother is perpetually cold. To top it all he’s in love with his sister Lucia.

His daddy issues are aggravated by this forbidden love, so he lives in angst and disinterest towards almost everyone and everything. I guess every normal human being would consider themselves broken and would hate themselves for having such a depraved mind. I understand his angst and dread. What he doesn’t know is that Lucia isn’t really his sister but the kidnapped infant in the prologue.  ( It isn’t directly stated yet, but it isn’t hard to put together ) The kidnapper is the King’s mistress, Sabina, who is a sorceress with dying magic.  Actually, the magic is dying everywhere and only the prophetized person is able to find the Kindred, objects (?) that contain the elementia magic (?). The baby, aka Lucia, supposedly was the one from the prophecy but her true nature is yet to be awakened.  I’m not into it yet, but it reads easily which is not bad at all. The names are funky. Paulo? Jana? Janos?  Limeros in my head is registered as Limsa Lominsa from FFXIV ---- to be continued

I’m currently reading this book and I picked it up only because of this gorgeous cover. Beautiful.
