For those unaware, Hasbro (the parent company of Wizards of the Coast, with the production rights over Magic the Gathering and of course DnD) are potentially developing NFTs around the two franchises.
I would advise everyone to not purchase any products from either franchise whilst this persists. I'm as yet unaware where the best place to complain about this might be - please do make suggestions.

why do people say fighters are boring?
I see people trying to add all these extra fancy mechanics to the fighter and other martial classes to “make them not boring” and I just can’t understand where these people are coming from?
like what DM told you that your creative ideas are bad and that a fighter can only move like an mmorpg character that stands there swinging their sword. Where’s your narrative flair? Your cool move ideas?
You don’t need a mechanic to tell you that attacking and killing a dragon looks cool, you (and your DM) just need to describe how cool the HP bar going down looks! You didn’t deal 38 damage, you cut through the dragons forearm and watch as it can only limp on its remaining 3 legs!
You didn’t deal 14 damage, you strode towards the goblin and thrust your sword through it’s abdomen, pulling it up through its shoulder causing a rain of blood around you.
like mechanically a firebolt and a longbow arrow are the same in 5e (save the type of damage), it’s just the way it’s described and implemented that makes them feel different.
and then at higher levels you get all your subclass abilities!
eldritch knights get additional spellcasting and weapon bond!
rune knights get cool runes that enhance their abilities within and without combat!
battle masters get maneuvers!
even champions, while mechanically lackluster, still get abilities that can make your character seem awesome!
I dunno, guess I’m just tired of seeing people complain about certain classes being boring and needing additional stuff to make them interesting.
sure there’s moments when mechanically you feel underwhelming, and that can suck. But whenever I see people say “fighter is boring” or “martial classes are boring” it’s because they want to do a very particular thing that isn’t even class specific!
I know I’m rambling, and this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, but I just wanted to get this out, even though it’s not very concise.
Maybe I’ll write up a concise version of all my gripes or make a video essay or something one day, but just, stop saying fighters are boring because you don’t know how to make your character cool.

Apparently one of my friends friends recalls a moment in the LOTR behind the scenes where a handful of the actors (she thinks the hobbits??) were (possibly joking) measuring dick size and then they started sword fighting?? Yeah lmao, I remember that, now barely anyone’s posting stuff anymore (including me 😅)
It's been 4 years.

I started this blog back on March 27, 2017 under the name Probablyadrpgideas during the early era of the RPGIdeas family. I made jokes about capitalism, pepsi, and sometimes rpgs. I started posting homebrew about 6 months later and have done so ever since!
I've come so far since then! About 6,000 lovely folks have joined me for that journey! Thank you all for everything!
