Kenneth Williams was executed on Thursday, April 27th 2017 at Cummins Unit, Arkansas for the murder of Cecil Boren. In 1998, Williams abducted Dominique Hurd and her friend at gunpoint, then drove them to several ATMs to make cash withdrawals before shooting them both and leaving them to die. The friend survived, but Dominique died of her injuries, and Williams was sentenced to life in prison for her abduction and murder. In 1999, Williams escaped from Cummins unit and came upon the home of 57 year old Cecil Boren, who lived two miles away from the prison with his wife Genie, who was at church. Williams broke into the home and fatally shot Boren, stole his truck and several of his guns, then drove to Missouri, where he engaged in a high-speed chase with police. During the pursuit, Williams crashed the stolen truck into a water delivery truck driven by a 24 year old man who died of his injuries. Williams was sentenced to death for the murder of Cecil Boren in 2000, and has been sitting on death row at Cummins unit ever since.
Williams was one of eight men who were scheduled to be executed in Arkansas in the month of April. Governor Asa Hutchinson made the nearly unprecedented move to schedule the eight executions because the state’s supply of Midazolam, a controversial drug linked to several botched executions, was due to expire. Four of the eight men received stays of execution. Ledell Lee, Jack Jones and Marcel Williams were executed after delays while their requests were considered and ultimately denied by the Supreme Court.
Williams received Holy Communion for his last meal. When asked for his last words, he stated:
“You won’t even understand them because they will be spoken in my spiritual language, in “Tongues”. Tongues are made mention of in the Bible: 1 Corinthians Chapter 14. If it be my fate to die on an execution table shaped like a crucifixion cross, my last words here on earth will be spoken to God above while the ADC and the State of Arkansas work to put my body to death beneath.”
Williams’ time of death was recorded as 11:05pm (CST). He was the fourth man to be executed in Arkansas in 2017, and the tenth in the U.S.

Candace Parrot looks on, deep in thought, as she tightly holds on to a jacket. To others, it may seem like an ordinary red jacket that can be found in just about any store, but to Parrot, it is something much more. It belonged to her younger brother, Jeffrey Trail. This jacket was his favorite, and after his death, in April 1997 it became one of Parrot’s cherished items.
Jeffrey, or Jeff to family and friends, was the perfect balance of serious and light-hearted. Jeff was protective of his loved ones and a natural leader. If a hectic situation was to arise, he would take charge with ease. These traits would line up perfectly with his career as an officer in the U.S. Navy. There were also many moments where Jeff would cut-loose, too. He had a good sense of humor, even if he was the butt of jokes. Jeff enjoyed singing and owned his own karaoke machine. One of his favorite musicians to sing along with was Frank Sinatra.
Jeffrey Trail was only 28-years-old when he was murdered by a serial killer named Andrew Cunanan. The men were once considered to be friends. Their relationship came to a head on April 27th, 1997 Cunanan beat Trail to death with a hammer following a heated argument. He became Cunanan’s first victim.
Despite his tragic ending, Candace Parrot refuses to let it overshadow her beloved brother’s life. “Jeff had a goodness to him, a sincerity you just can’t buy. Andrew took a lot away from us, but that is one thing he never will.”
Frances Glessner Lee, a millionaire heiress, revolutionized the study of forensics and crime scene investigation. She believed that crimes could be solved by a detailed analysis of visual and material evidence.
She used newspaper reports, and interviews with policemen and morgue workers to create miniture crime scenes(which were extremely detailed) such as suicides, accidental deaths, accidents as homicides and homicide, potentially, as suicides. Of the twenty she made, eighteen have survived and of those eighteen, eleven show violent deaths of women. Everything from the wallpaper to the presence of alcohol and drugs was added to the miniture crime scenes.
This helped investigators train to identify crimes and clues found at crime scenes and left a big mark on the field as we know it today. They were also used in Harvard Associates in Police Science (HAPS) seminars. She called them nutshell cases, a name that was inspired by a detective who told her this:
As the investigator, you must bear in mind that there is a two-fold responsibility—to clear the innocent as well as expose the guilty. Seek only the facts—Find the truth in a Nutshell.

“We were just cheering people on, and then, the blast happened.”
Patrick Downes recalls the day of the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013. He and his wife, Jessica Kensky, were newlyweds in the city, cheering on the runners, when the blast went off. Each lost a leg, and Jessica had to get her other leg amputated as well.
The couple worked through their trauma with the help of a service dog named Rescue. Now, the couple has released a children’s book featuring the beloved dog. In addition to the book helping children understand and accept physical disabilities, it has also given Jessica and Patrick a new purpose.
“We’re just starting to put pieces of a life back together,” Jessica explained. “It’s a good life, it’s a beautiful life, it just looks a lot different than either of us ever imagined.”
