CYANOBACTERIA
Tiny green cyanobacteria played an outsize role in Earth’s history by creating the planet’s oxygen-rich atmosphere through photosynthesis. Ancestral forms also evolved into chloroplasts, the cell parts that carry out photosynthesis in plants.

Because I haven't posted in what seems like years
So on the road again...to excellence. Making decisions to better yourself for med school seems like a never ending chess game. You make a move, adjust plans, and then just freak out. Nothing ever seems good enough, but I like to think of it this way. Deciding to become a doctor is a lot like deciding to be a hobo with only a backpack. You never know whats around the corner, there are no assurances, and most of the time you skate by on pure luck. It seems to make the life walk right out of you. Don't let this road control you. Damn, just breathe. You'll get there, but if you are hell bent on being the best, you'll fail. There is no doctor who is perfect. Any that you meet who claim to be perfect are lying to you. Make mistakes, live, and please keep marching on.

Interesting
Just read an article on recent research that stem cells exists in the matrix of nails. Scientist are looking to manipulate these cells in hopes that it will push them in the direction of limb regeneration. This is just freakin awesome.

Premed life
I don't think parents or friends of premeds understand us. They wonder why we are always up until 3 am, grumpy and irritable, or just stressed out. They laugh when we find delight in the little things, like a molecule with a funny name (cummingtonite) or the stem cell regrowth of a nose on a guy's arm. We are nerds to outsiders but together we are so much more. We are the people who will be paving new routes of healing for medicine. We are the ones who will be connecting with patients and touching lives. This determination makes me excited for the future, to see what we will all become in this crazy field. I am curious and I am hopeful.
For now, I will just close with this. Our end goal will be met and our patience will be rewarded. Let everyone be confused about us and our life choices. As long as we know why we are on this road, it is all that matters.

Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and therefore the fount of all invention and innovation. In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity, it is the power to that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared.

Organic Chem & Everything
I know most people would assume that I would start to complain about it this subject but...honestly my best days when studying for the MCAT are the days I am studying for Orgo. Thank the heavens for my kick ass professor. Making one subject not a worry for me. And now my mornings will start at 7am because of shadowing. Here is to the summer...that I do not have to myself, but hey, as long as I am a kick ass doctor someday, I don't really care how many hours I give up. Medicine is my life.
Maybe I should do a little writing before bed...Gotta love my hobby, it keeps me sane :)

Science is lovely but....
I feel like I know too much about the body. I can't have a normal conversation anymore without explaining the biological processes. Do you know how awkward a conversation can get when you mention how the penis erection works with neurons and the nervous system. Actually, it's not awkward, It's pretty fucking hilarious. Educating the world on their bodily functions, one human at a time.

MCAT and other rambles
I've just hit my month of studying for the MCAT. Although I feel like I have learned nothing, I am certain something is going to pay off. If not, I have plans of becoming a hobo and living in a box city. Maybe I'll plan for my box city to be by the beach, unless New Jersey gets another hurricane....then I'll keep my hobo ways on the mainland.
