A little while ago Praphit Productions had two Mental Health Awareness meetings. We covered a lot of Q&A. Here's some of it.
1) Mental Health Def: a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being.
1A) Mental Illness Def:
1B) There are different types of mental illnesses/disorders and varying degrees of severity. Ex. Circumstantial or Clinical or even spiritual (based off of one's beliefs) OR more serious ones.
1C) The serious stuff
2) Taking care of ourselves
a) Times of personal checking/awareness - ex. If you had a third arm growing out of your butt, you might decide to get that checked out. It's not something that you'd ignore. So, don't ignore emotion/mental issues either.
b) Figure out what the problem is (might require professional help to do so).
c) Figure out a plan to deal with that issue (a method that's most comfortable for you).
3) Mental Health Awareness:
a) An Economic Crisis b) Social Media c) Overall Health
4) NAMI is a great place to start
5) What the crappity crap is "Deeply"?
Pretty much, It's Praphit Productions' Mental Health Support Community. The name comes from the bible (1 Peter 4:8) - that we would love another another "deeply".
The goal is to intentionally create a safe space for people to gather (online and in-person) to share life and serve/love one another. That's what the Church is supposed to be doing anyway, but… you know how that goes :) So, if you happen not to have that type of support in your life, the idea is that you could find it at DEEPLY.
6) People who believe that others mental health problems aren't real problems. Honestly, those kinds of people are a big part of the Mental Health Crisis in our country. Any medical professional IN THE WORLD would tell you that mental health issues are real, and need to be taken seriously.
So, at this stage in human social evolution, if one says that they don't believe in such things, then they're being willfully ignorant ("damned fools" as the bible might say:)
Scripture (one of many proverbs on foolery): Proverbs 10:8 -
"The wise in heart accept commands,   but a chattering fool comes to RUIN."
Stand your ground (wisely). Try to enlighten them (graciously and wisely) if opportunity allows. But, DO NOT partake in their RUIN.
7) Hollywood's responsibility?
I would say that they only have a responsibility to try to entertain us. It's our responsibility (every one's) to educate ourselves and then act and teach accordingly with that knowledge. BUT, if you find a Tv Show, Book, Movie, etc that is portrays those struggling with mental health issues in a good light, maybe pass those on. In the same way, if any shine a bad light on those struggles, perhaps send out a warning.
Maybe Hollywood could do better in regards to warnings.
8) Can religion help? - Depends. In some cases, religion births or assists in trauma leading to mental health issues. However, I can speak for myself in saying that without my faith in Christ, I would not be able to endure my own mental health battles. So, to answer the question - YES, but tread with caution.
9) Safe Work Places for Mental Health Struggles
Good luck with that. I mean that… perhaps you'll find a safe place like that. But, businesses are about making money, not the worker's personal well-being. Whether they should be or not is up for debate. This is why it is wise to take your mental health seriously, and to be diligent in managing it. If you don't, you might find that it's hard for you to keep a job, or at the very least to be as productive as you know you could be.
10) Creative ways to cope - There are a variety of ways. The best place to start though is with a support group. (If you can't find one, you can start with DEEPLY:)
Talking out your issues will hopefully lead to others being there for you and perhaps sharing some things that have worked for them or those that they know. Be patient as you try what works best for you. But, PLEASE KEEP TRYING. I believe that wise and earnest trying with equal succeeding.

“Smile” and Mental Health
We have had movies of which we may derive messages from  - some being clear:
"The Purge"
"Get Out"
and "Men" (never seen it, but I can imagine)
And some that aren't really there, but... you know... they could be:)
"Jaws" (which, it's time for a remake) - Take care of the ocean or the ocean will send a monster after you and devour you and everyone that you love.
"Nightmare on Elm Street" (also needs more movies) - Even if your fashion sense and jokes are as lame as Freddy's, there's still a place in society for you (in this case, the nightmares of kids).
"Saw" - if you're terminally ill, do something productive with your time left.
And now we have "Smile" - a film with all kinds of mental health talking points. The curse/entity of trauma is passing from person to person, as all of the victims struggle to cope with it.
2 questions:
#1 - What are the very real principles of trauma that are in this movie?
#2 - And why are we as a society so stubborn when it comes to facing our mental health demons?
1A) When we experience extreme horrific events we need time to talk it out and process it.
1B) When we don't process it properly, we are subject to a poison to our worldview, diminishing sense of self-worth, and or causing extra stress on our bodies due to grief.
1C) Pretending like everything is “ok” when it is not will only prolong the effects of the trauma.
1D) The stigma that surrounds people who are struggling with their mental health, and the loneliness that can bring.
2A) The stigma that we all consciously or unconsciously know all too well.
2B) Ignorance
2C) Insecurity
2D) Arrogance
2E) Laziness
At the end of the movie (spoiler alert) - the protagonist faces their trauma. This is a great mental health awareness moment. However, in the movie, things still end poorly for this character. This is great for a horror movie fans though :)
In real life, this deciding to face off with our demons is a crucial step in the healing process. To not merely say that "everything is ok" or "everything will be ok", but to decide it's time to change your thinking, and then acting on that decision. Then, one can say "everything will be ok".
Here's a vid on resilience that I found encouraging - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qELiw_1Ddg
Beliefs - to Feelings - to Thoughts - to Action.
Let's be resilient in our battle for mental health and strength. And let's continuously encourage others in their journey of the same.

Mental Health: Moon Knight
I, for one, am happy to see mental health issues more and more in my entertainment. One area that I did not expect to have these discussions is in the realm of comic books movies. But, if  you're a fan, and you look back, the topic is there to be discussed. Today, I'll focus on Marvel Comics.
Iron-Man (in the comics) has a drinking problem; while they did not get too deep into this problem, we see a lil bit of it in the second movie. Perhaps there will be another version of Iron-Man, who will show more of this side. I think it's worth getting into (while watching him beat up the bad guys). The Hulk, of course, has his anger issues, as well as (maybe) some level of personality disorder. We see (in "End Game") that Thor is struggling with his mental/physical health after failing in battle.
Wanda (Scarlett Witch) has totally fallen apart after a tragic loss. We watch as she unravels to the point where she is a totally different person.
All of the Avengers (and misc characters in the Marvel universe) have struggled with their mental health, due to "The snap".
The latest character to give us some mental health talking points has been Moon Knight. He is a character with D.I.D (dissociative identity disorder).
Some might say that they don't want such things to be focused on while trying to enjoy a movie or Tv show. I can certainly understand this notion. However, the numbers show an increase in mental health problems rising throughout the world (especially in young people). Perhaps we don't need to have Marvel docuseries', diving into mental health, but I definitely believe that keeping this serious topic that we've only stepped in shallowly, somewhere in our minds is beneficial.
In most stories that we watch, listen to, or read, the character with D.I.D. is the villain, or at the very least, the "crazy person" who must be tolerated. It is refreshing to watch the story of Moon Knight, and see that this character isn't made to be the villain, but even more so, that he is the hero. Some argue that the portrayal wasn't accurate enough, but I say, this isn't a story about D.I.D., but a comic book/fantasy story with a main character who has D.I.D. Personally, I thought it was accurate enough, and just deep enough into the condition, while still beating up the bad guy, in a show on Disney Plus. I just happy that the said bad guy wasn't Moon Knight.
Hopefully, Marvel will continue to tell these stories that include mental health struggles in which we all face, some more unfamiliar conditions, and do so thoughtful writing. Inclusion matters.
