Alex sits, trying for a long moment to absorb it, and says, "I've...never I haven't been through anything like that," he says, voice rough. "But I've always felt it, in him. There's this side of him that's...unknowable." He takes a breath.

"But the thing is, jumping off cliffs is kinda my thing. That's the choice. I love him, with all that, because of all that. On purpose. I love him on purpose."

Bea smiles gently. "Then you'll do fine."

Reasons why I think the campfire scene should've been in the movie:

Alex's call back to their first ever hook-up after the White House party asking Henry if he really meant that he can't let anyone fall in love with him. This is Alex remembering their first night together. Alex thought Henry was being arrogant and presumptive. But, now he understands Henry's predicament better. He wants to know what if anything has changed. He wants to know if they can have a future together.

Henry basically confessing his love to Alex in a convoluted way with the story of the Prince to Alex.

No Wonder Alex was imagining a future with Henry on the pier and confessed his love to him.

Henry telling Alex at the campfire that the Prince wore the armor so that nothing could ever happen to him. And Alex calling back to this during the storming of the Kensington Palace telling Alex that 'nothing will ever happen to him' if he is locked up in his tower(armor).

Henry telling Alex that the Prince is trying to hold the last piece of armor firmly in place while the Peasant boy pulled and pulled at this piece of armor. This is Henry telling Alex that he HAS to protect his heart and he can never truly lose that armor protecting his heart to freely love Alex. This makes sense when Henry tells Alex during the storming of the Kensington Palace that he has done nothing but explained himself to Alex this whole year.

This scene gives an insight into where Henry stands in their relationship. He loves Alex but he can't/won't do anything about it. It is for him to endure. Not for him to share.

It would've worked. Because... it's a logical conclusion of their first day in the lake house... After the karaoke bar outing... Alex realizes he is in love with Henry at the bar. Then he asks Henry about how he feels about letting someone fall in love with him. Henry almost confesses his love here in his own way. Then the next day, Oscar gives Alex his speech about jumping off the cliff and then Alex is jumping off the cliff on the pier not knowing that it was Henry who was standing on the cliff. 😭

I will add more reasons when they come to me. What are your thoughts on this deleted scene?

I have talked in my other post that my favorite line from Henry in the entire movie was "I am learning" but for Alex, this was what takes the cake for me.

This line was so cold, it was full on desperation, it was a threat, it was also a plea. As someone who kinda resembles Henry in approaching anything that related to feeling by running away because I don't want to get hurt, this line

"Nothing will ever happen to you." Hits home, imagine a man that fight this hard to be in your life, to pull you out of the wall that you have build so high around your heart, because you have been so scared that nothing will work, no one could possibly meet you in the middle and make it work..

And Alex called Henry on his doubt, for diminishing their love to that extended and didn't want to give it a chance because something will change, and this words were a reminder that everything change eventually but do you want it to be something you actually can cherish or do you want things to happen but it didn't matter anymore because the world have left you behind and you have lost things that you should have fought so hard in the past to keep.

I think this sentence alone make chill runs down Henry's spines, like suddenly a cold water was pour over his head and it became clear that if he didn't take this chance with Alex then what other chance will he has in the future? Alex gave him a glimpse of a dark future where there's no Alex in his life anymore because Henry chose to abandon him.

This was a threat without reassurance because Alex was already at his last resort. ..because Alex know if he couldn't convince Henry that their love was worth it, his life will be destroyed as well, he had found his home in Henry and Alex knows that if he lost Henry he would have lost everything, he was so close to be on his knees begging.

(Seriously "nothing will ever happen to you." line still make me feel so restless but also motivated me? At the same time because I want something to happen to me, scarier to think you have no story to tell than being hurt but you have walked that road and learned from it.)

What I Love Wednesday

What I love is this beautiful shot of Alex's long, lean body, and the way you go from head to toe, his body line drawing your eye to where we see Henry on the tv in the mirror. How this shot was framed, and what is spoken during it. That there is reflection in the mirror and their thoughts. How Henry desperately wishes to be with Alex, and how difficult it is for him to keep seeing Alex do all this good while he attends mindless ribbon cuttings. Alex's facial expression shows he is thinking about Henry's words, and there's such longing and a deep ache to change the world for him to.

Such a tiny snippet of a scene, that means so much.

We’ve talked so much about Alex’s comfort with physical affection and how guarded Henry is with his affection. I think this moment captures Henry perfectly. His sister, one of his only remaining supports in this life grasps his hands, but that’s it. Even in this moment of unfolding horror, Henry only receives the barest amount of physical comfort (no shade to Bea, I absolutely adore her - and she’s clearly shook too - the whole royal family needs a hug). We see here how Alex is the only person that has fully breached Henry’s walls as you see a few moments later when Alex embraces Henry on the stairs.

I have whole head canons of Henry getting comfortable with casual physical affection.
