spoilers for seasons 5 and 6 of riverdale below
okay so at the end of season 5 Veronica's dad put a bomb under Archie's bed and it went off, killing Archie and Betty. the insane circumstances that created this event provided enough energy for the universe to split in two: riverDale and riverVale. all the crazy shit from season 6 with the ritual sacrifices and the whore of Babylon and shit is in riverVale, where this shit happens all the time
Jughead becomes acutely aware he is in a parallel universe one day and discovers that if riverVale and riverDale don't split and become independent universes, they'll both be destroyed. but if riverVale is separated, it will still die anyway as it will have no energy. only riverDale will live
then a second (technically a third) Jughead appears and tells the first (technically the second) Jughead that if he seals himself in an underground bunker and his imagination becomes the universe's battery and he writes the new stories of the town's residents then everyone can live as long as he keeps writing. so he does. this isn't even getting into the part where Veronica tries to fuck 2 Reggies, or how the old Archie comics are the afterlife for riverVale characters.
i assume next episode we will return to normal riverDale as though nothing ever happened. i love this show.
