Ch.5 Repatching (Till We're Safe: AU The Maze Runner, Gally x FemReader)
“I have to say, I’m very disappointed in you. If I'd known this silly situation of yours would have affected your work, I would’ve-*sigh*.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t think it'd be this difficult.”
“I believe you.”
I woke up in the middle of the night, barely being able to hold on to whatever fleeting conversation that was. Was it a memory? It was the voice of another woman. But as quickly as it came, it quickly left, leaving me in tears.
Just as I realized daylight was pouring in, I heard the screeching gateways of the maze open. The dream would have to wait another time, I didn’t want to process whatever fleeting memory that might’ve been, it was entirely too painful to think about.
Breakfast was fine and went by with no trouble, then I got the news broken to me by Alby. Apparently I’d start med-jack work a day earlier than expected. All on Gally’s recommendation.
I started my day with Clint and Jeff, we went around the Glade and set up supplies and repatching Gladers up, tending to some colds and alleviating allergies, which provided a nice distraction, for a while anyway.
I realized I couldn’t help but feel upset, why the hell didn’t he let stay with them another day. Is a day with me too insufferable? Did I do anything wrong? If it was my lack of work, it wouldn’t have been my fault anyway, the prick shank didn’t let me work. And why the hell was I getting upset over this? It’s not like I wasn’t excited to do med-jack work.
While I wrestled with my thoughts, we headed to the Builders. I could hear my biggest source of stress mouthing off already. Something about how they needed to be more careful with handling the support beams amongst other things, who even cared. How the guys haven’t told him off already blew me, if it was me I’d hav-
“Hey Clint, we’re all good today.”
“Hey Gally, my legs kinda shucked up.”
“You’ll live.”
“I can take a quick look at it.”
“Since when are you quick?”
“You know what you are? You’re difficult. You are a very difficult man. Difficult to work with, difficult to talk too-”
“And anybody could say the same about you princess.”
“Stop calling me princess, was being difficult the reason I’m not working with the builders for this last day?”
“You slowed us down yesterday.”
A quiet “not true” chimed from a crowd of builders taking a small water break, and Gally shot them a look.
“Will both of you just shut up and kiss already, shucking hell it’s painful to watch!”
Jeff's irritated statement started an uproar of laughs, gasps and two very embarrassed, bright red faces facing his direction. I quickly finished up the builder I was helping and we left swiftly, and I couldn’t help but smile at Gally telling them to shut up in the distance.
After everyone ate dinner and decided to use downtime to relax, I realized I forgot to put some things away in the med-jack room. I walked in to see Gally struggling to repatch his hand wound from my second day. And I couldn’t help but notice he had some new cuts on his hands too.
“Why didn’t you say anything about the cuts earlier?”
He was startled not realizing I was in there.
“Fuck, don’t sneak up like that.”
“You need help.”
“I’m doing fine, just go relax, it's after hours, what are you even doing here?”
“First of all you’re in MY area and I came because I forgot to put some things away. Just let me redo it.”
Finally admitting defeat, he sat on one of the chairs and held out his hand. As I started cleaning his wounds, I noticed the many smaller scars he had littered all over his hands. I turned around to reach the aloe and he broke the silence.
“I’m sorry about Jeff earlier.”
Him apologizing was something new and almost uncomfortable.
“It was kind of funny.”
He shot me a confused but incredulous look that for some reason pulled on my heartstrings.
“It was embarrassing.”
“Why? Because somebody told you the truth?”
“What truth would that be?”
“You’re difficult, stubborn, irritating-”
“Watch it greenie. Just remember I went easy on you in the sand pit.”
I found myself starting to enjoy whatever game this was, sure he was still the bane of the Glade but of course someone has to tell him.
“So I’m not wrong?”
“*scoff* You think you’re any better? You’re stubborn, overconfident, dramatic and shucking irritating ”
“Please I’m a damn joy to be around, and you know it too.”
“Yeah Joffrey sure thinks so for some reason.”
He stood up from his chair as I rewrapped the new bandage on his hand, I didn’t notice how much closer we had gotten.
“Are you jealous?”
“Watch it.”
There was a look in his eyes that I couldn’t quite determine but for some reason I wanted to keep poking at it.
I think it was time to admit a growing problem, and it was getting impossible to ignore, while I had come to despise Gally, he was so fucking attractive. There was no way any of us had room for whatever this was going to lead up to, how could I even think of entertaining this?
And yet, these small interactions with Gally are sometimes the only things on my mind. I loved and hated it at the same time.
I should’ve stopped here but shucking hell, that look of frustration fills my heart.
“Why?”
And in a soft but frustrated tone,
“You know why.”
I didn't know how to respond, and in just the nick of time, I had finished repatching his wound. The smart part of me kept suggesting I end whatever this was, and yet another more louder part wanted to know more. But as Gally walked away he said,
“You shouldn’t come by the Builders for a while.”
No, I couldn’t do that.
“I’m sorr-”
“Don’t be.”
He walked away and I went back to whatever I needed to do originally, for some reason my mind was emptier than I thought possible.

Ch.4 Foundations? (Till We're Safe: AU The Maze Runner, Gally X FemReader)
After a Greenies first 2 weeks, they get chosen for whatever job they were best at during the rotation. However my 2 weeks aren't done till 2 more days, this morning Alby decided to keep the “best” for last. The Builders. I think it was pretty apparent that my first job Med-Jack was the job I was going to get chosen for, however to keep up the order you gotta go through all of them.
However after breakfast, I decided to find Gally to just ask what I needed to get started with and I found him talking with Alby near the hammocks, as I walked over, a person who I gratefully forgot about till a week ago and again today, decided to grab my shoulders.
“Hey Greenie.”
“Oh, what’d you need?”
“I can’t say good morning?”
“What’d you need?”
“Alright then, I’ll go straight to it, have dinner with me today. I know the builders aren’t going to be the most pleasant group today, least of all Gally, so what do you say?”
Yeah I didn’t like this guy one bit, and I’d rather stomach Gallys nagging over whatever the hell Joffrey was going on about. Since the first day he’s never sat right with me, thankfully he wasn’t somebody I’d have to interact with much as a med-jack.
“Sorry Joffrey, I think I'm okay.”
“Cmon y/n, what’s your deal with me? I’ve tried to be nice, listen I’ve heard the guys talking, they’re waiting for your routine to set in before anyone tries to “talk” to you, and there's no telling what any of them might do after that, hell even Alby laughed about it, let me help you. ”
I considered his words for a bit, there could’ve been some truth to what he was saying, but I remembered another important detail at this point. He was the only boy in this damned prison or wherever we were, that succeeded in making me uncomfortable beyond measure. I'm grateful I remembered what “red flags” were because Joffrey lit up every single one.
“Listen Joffrey, I don’t know how much clearer I need to make this for you. I don’t want to eat dinner or breakfast with you, and I don’t need your protection.”
“Careful y/n, you wouldn’t-”
“She wouldn't what?”
We both quickly turned to the side to see Gally walking up to us. A soft feeling of ease sat on my shoulders when I realized he was here, but as quickly as it came, I dismissed it.
“Go on Joff, finish it.”
“Just making sure she knows that we all need to get along”
“Yeah I think she got the point. Get to work.”
As he walked away, I wanted to wipe that smug smile off his face. I wondered if there was a 3 strike system for hurting another Glader. I found myself stuck in thought till Gally finally spoke up,
“Are you coming to work or are you gonna waste more time?”
That attitude of his was becoming a really annoying prick in my head.
“Hey, he came up to me and bothered me first, I’ve been trying to tell him to back off since day one! I probably could’ve made it clearer if you hadn’t butt in.”
“Yeah you're welcome now he won’t bother you again.”
“Yeah well if Minho couldn’t get him to shut up, I doubt he’s gonna stop because of you.”
“The hell did Minho tell him?”
“He just told him he was messing it all up on the first night, it’s not like there's anything to mess up, I don’t think anybody should be “trying”.”
“When did I ask?”
I shot him an annoyed look and I watched a smug smile appear on his face. That face of his made it really difficult to stay mad or annoyed at him.
As we walked to the new building, it seemed like they were laying groundwork for a foundation. As the hours passed by, Gally stood beside me helping me. I got the hang of using tools pretty quick, they worked hard and fast, it wasn’t a bad job to have. Despite the jokes and banter, the builders weren’t as dumb as everyone said they were. Airheaded and stubborn? Absolutely, working with Gally for a few hours solidified that. The only bad thing the entire time? Oh, Gally not letting me fucking work. It’d go something like this…
“Watch your hand.”
“I got it.”
“If you didn’t I wouldn’t tell you to watch your hand, you’re gonna smack a finger.”
“Gally I’m using the smallest and lightest mallet you have already, I'd have to use my whole body weight to bruise my hand.”
“Okay fine break your finger then, matter of fact, let me do it.”
“Why would I let you do it?”
“Shucking hell just move, you’re doing it wrong anyway.”
If it wasn’t irritating moments like this, it was more. I went to carry some logs and a tool bag. We were getting more supplies for the foundation until…
“Lemme carry that.”
It’s not that heavy, I'm fine.”
“You're gonna get hurt. Just carry the bag.”
“You might as well be carrying half the shack, just let me do it.”
As he walked around to my other side, he grabbed the logs without asking again, leaving me only a light tool bag.
I hated how good he looked walking away with all of that, and just as that thought came, I shook my head and cursed at myself silently, this was becoming a regular problem.
I decided to think about the other jobs, I pulled in as much weight as I could, and that was fine, if anybody slacked off, that was a problem. But for some reason when I’m here with the builders, they don’t mind. At around the end of the day, my duties were reduced to handing things to them or holding certain things in place, if it wasn’t for the hot sun, I would’ve barely worked a sweat in.
“I didn’t work today Gally.”
“Yeah I know.”
“I got the hang of it at the start, why didn’t you let me do more?”
“You’re gonna be a medjack, so one, there wasn’t much point in you working with us today and second, you can’t really get your hands injured before being med-jack so…”
““So that's what you were talking to Alby about this morning. You know I could’ve been better at this job.”
“Yes and sorry princess, leave the building to me and the rest of these guys.”
“You’re not gonna let up tomorrow either will you?”
“Nope.”
The dinner bell rang and everyone was quickly dismissed. I stayed instead.
“What? Are you waiting for me?”
“Waiting for you, hurry up I wanna eat.”
“Alright Greenie if you wanna work, then help me so I can finish faster.”
It didn’t take us very long and we worked the rest in calm silence. As we walked to dinner I heard him softly say,
“If you want, you can eat with us so he doesn’t bother you again.”
He really didn’t like eye contact, it was either smart remarks in front of others or quiet comments that confused me, even after 2 weeks I still didn’t know what to think about him. Others would’ve said he was brash, blunt, or a straight up shank to the rest of them, there was some truth to it but that wasn’t all he was.
“Thank you.”
I ate my dinner and sat with the builders, who despite me not pulling enough weight, they welcomed me still. I didn’t say much and instead listened to the chorus of laughter and conversations. Sitting next to Gally brought back that feeling again, the feeling of familiarity and habit, and it almost made me forget where I was.
Once dinner ended and we went our separate ways, I decided to climb up a small tree close to Homestead. I figured maybe I used to like star-gazing.  Usually at this time of night, I would’ve found myself trying to remember my life or I would’ve repeated my name in my head till I went to bed.
But this time I found myself thinking of Gally, I wondered who he was, what his parents would’ve looked like, what did he do in his spare time, did he always like building? Did he have a favorite color or a favorite anything? Questions I asked myself, I asked about him.
But of course that was ridiculous, I didn’t know him, I didn’t know any of them. I don’t know where the hell we are or why we’re here. I stayed wrestling with my thoughts for a while until somebody else had the same idea.
“Oh heya y/n, see you found my spot.”
“Oh I'm sorry Newt, I can get down.”
“No it's fine, I like having company anyways.”
We stared at the stars for a bit till he chimed up,
“How’re you holding up?”
“It’s weird, when I'm with people, doing my job, I forget where I am, I feel almost comfortable with certain people. But afterwards the gravity of where we are just sets in and I'm reminded of whatever we could’ve lost out there.”
“Yeah you get used to it after a couple weeks. Wanna know the cool part?”
“Not sure if there's a cool part about it but go on ahead.”
“We come up the Box with no memory and not a bloody clue who any of us are, so we have a clean slate. We can make our lives here for however long they keep us here, take it from somebody who tortured himself for a year about what I could’ve lost out there, we only have each other here.”
I heeded his words and as I thanked him for easing my anxiety, we stared back at the stars. I thought about what he said that night and all I could think about was how I just wanted to go back to work tomorrow and hear Gally complain again.

Ch.3, Names and Second Days (Till We're Safe: AU The Maze Runner, Gally X FemReader)
“y/n”
“What?”
“MY NAME.”
“IT’S Y/N”
We stopped pushing and everyone got quiet, Newt came up first and lifted my hand, introducing me again. “
“Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to Y/N!”
The Gladers cheered and congratulated me and I immediately felt much more at ease. I turned to Gally who then shook my hand and said
“Hello y/n, amazing that your name came up as you were losing. I wonder if you’ll remember something else next time.”
“Ah didn’t think you’d be a sore loser, maybe don’t stare so hard next time.”
The smile on Gally quickly turned to an annoyed smirk
“Just hope you’re not stuck with the builders tomorrow Greenie.”
“My names not Greenie.”
“Don’t care, I already forgot it.”
As he walked away I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment and guilt. The others didn’t seem to notice or care but I didn’t want Gally to think I chickened out. Sure he shouldn’t just negate my name, it’s the one thing we’re able to have in this godforsaken place but I couldn’t blame him, it was bad timing.
~
I followed Alby back to the Homestead and entered a small room with a makeshift bed in the middle. The Homestead itself seemed well built considering who put it up and the circumstances. Alby gave me a pack which included some blankets and a few other items,
“I'm gonna have you sleep here for a bit, or for as long as you want, usually no special treatment is given but since these are special circumstances, you should have privacy for whatever girl things you need to do.”
“Thank you for the room Alby and the bed too.”
“Oh don’t thank me for the bed, Gally volunteered. He usually likes sleeping in the hammocks anyway.”
I’m not sure whether shock or confusion was the word here, I didn’t know what to make of Gally and if I was being honest, maybe I was thinking about it and him too much. We were here to survive, not play.
“Oh he didn’t have t-”
“As I said, he likes the hammocks, you’re fine Y/N”
“Okay, oh another thing, is there usually someone else who sleeps in the homestead? I noticed more rooms and people in them.”
“Yeah, me, Newt, Frypan and Minho. Keepers sleep in here and the med-jacks work in here usually. Sleep well Y/N, you have a long day tomorrow.”
“Goodnight Alby”
~
I could barely sleep, the crickets themselves were comforting but it must've been my body responding to discomfort, in my last life I clearly didn’t sleep in conditions like this, it invited a melancholic feeling, it made me wonder what bed I used to sleep in, what my room looked like, did I sleep in a house with a loving family? Or did something more tragic happen along the way, it only brought me back to the questions that were on everyone's mind,
“Why am I here? Who was I?”
. About halfway through these thoughts, it brought me back to the present, and I couldn’t even blame the bed, it didn’t smell terrible like I thought it would’ve, and it was a halfway decent bed. The blankets were clean but the mattress itself almost smelled clean? Like freshly cleaned. Of course I could’ve been trying to delay myself from sleeping, afterall I wonder if I’d wake up in the same place.
I did end up sleeping, I could thank the crickets for that but of course I had to wake up to a heavy grating sound. I shot up immediately just to hear others also doing the same and Newt yelling,
“Rise and shine shaaaanks, what a wonderful morning to work!”
I giggled, a few others groaned. Yeah this would be fun. I noticed the pack that Alby had given me last night and I noticed amongst it that they were clothes. Clean clothes that looked almost my size, they must’ve come up the Box with me. I changed and got ready fairly quickly and I greeted the Homestead residents.
“Good morning Y/N, hope you got enough sleep, come with us to breakfast.”
I accompanied the Keepers to breakfast, where Frypan had whipped up eggs and some mashed sweet potatoes? I sat still with Newt and Alby and a few others enjoying the breakfast and getting to know them. I noticed that the Keepers liked to sit with their guys and sometimes sit together. I wondered which one of these groups I’d belong to later on. I was stuck in thought until Clint, Keeper of the Medjacks came up to me.
“Hey Y/N, do you think you’d know anything about patching cuts up?”
“I’m not sure, I didn’t think anybody could just join?”
“Well it's my lucky day because Alby said he’d let you try out. And I’m tired of running around from the builders to the slicers all day. With your running, maybe Jeff and I can get a break.”
“I don’t know Clint, maybe these shanks will start cutting themselves up on purpose if she’s a Med-Jack.”
“Yeah you think Alby would let that happen? They’re dumb not stupid.”
I didn’t want to have to get used to this, I understood being the only girl was something to be aware of, but if these comments were in store for me, I’d have rather taken my chance with whatever a Griever was.
~
Alright so the first day wasn’t so bad. Me, Clint and Jeff started our day in the Homestead, taking inventory of supplies and showing me around our “office”. They let me know what big injuries some of the Gladers have had and currently have. After that, we headed into the Deadheads, despite its name, small medicinal herbs and flowers grow there, while Jeff stayed in the Homestead teaching me to prepare some of the herbs. Clint went out for his rounds, seeing who had gotten injured today.
After a few hours of lessons, they decided to take me out into the field. They weren’t kidding when they said they run around from slicers to builders all day.
First it was bandages on a few hands, second it was bandaging cuts on legs. Next was a run to Homestead for some of the salves we use for infection and inflammation. After we were done with the slicers we headed to the builders.
We walked over to an unfinished building near the Deadheads, asking if anyone needed some attention first. A couple boys had scratches and painful calluses that needed repatching, after a couple minutes of work I heard a familiar voice speak up.
“I need a bandage.”
After I finished swiftly with the boy in front of me, I turned over to Gally who had a nasty cut on his palm.
“What the hell did you do to your hand!?”
With an annoyed look he said,
“I thought it'd be fun to scrape my hand on a saw. Could you hurry up?”
“Can you please be patient and not cut your hands on a saw so you don’t have to complain about ME being slow?”
“Or you could just hurry up and let me do my job so you don’t have to hear me complaining Greenie”
“My name isn’t Greenie shank.”
Clint decided to cut into what was becoming a heated conversation with,
“Alright now, Gally. It’s her second day man, take it easy, and Y/N, you can’t win with this guy.”
“I’ll take it easy when she - AH, what the hell?!”
“Relax brickhead, I just put alcohol and salve on it, it's a deep cut not just a scrape.”
“Don’t waste the alcohol on a cut, shucking hell it’s not that serio-”
“It is that serious and if it's just a cut, why complain to me about a bandage?”
As he was about to cut me off again, the dinner bell rang. Immediately he dismissed the other guys and he stayed silent as I finished up his bandage that took no longer than 2 more minutes, he looked away and said,
“Is there anything I should do to take care of it?”
“Well don’t use this hand so much but I have a feeling you won’t listen to that.”
“You’re right, I won’t.”
As we walked to dinner, part of me wanted to thank him for the bed, but another part wanted to chuck a hammer at his face-
“Thank you for the bandage.”
He didn’t look at me, he stared dead ahead for a bit till I just-
“Thank you for the bed.”
We glanced at each other but there was something else in his eyes that I saw when we met, during the brawl and now, and I didn’t know why it felt familiar.

Till We're Safe (AU The Maze Runner) (Gally X Reader)
Chapter 1: Entering The Glade
I woke up in a cold sweat, I didn't know where I was. It was a creaky rusty elevator moving very fast, I didn't know how I got there or even the events leading up to this, I remember boxes and crates of things around me. I barely had time to think before the elevator abruptly stopped, and 2 doors opened up. I remember the light blinding me at first, but my eyes adjusted to see figures all around me. I looked around in a panic to see dozens of boys staring at me, all whispering and saying, "It's a girl. Why did they send her up?" "What's going on?"
I looked around more, and it was true, I was the only girl. Suddenly a wave of terror and panic set in, I could barely breathe, and everyone was talking or yelling, I stumbled back into a corner and just then a tall burly blonde boy jumped down the elevator, offering his hand to help me up. And in a reassuring voice he said,
"Welcome to the Glade greenie."
He offered to pull me up which took a second for me to take but then I climbed out to a sea of boys surrounding me, the same boy who helped me started yelling at the rest.
"Back the hell up, you’re scaring her you dumbass shanks!"
3 other boys did the same to the others, all the less I was still panicking, I was backing up and trying to avoid all of them, a certain animalistic fear was taking over and I started to hyperventilate, I stood still for a moment when one of the darker skinned boys tried approaching me slowly,
"Hey, it's okay, we won't hurt you, just stay calm."
One boy from the crowd however decided to cut out all pleasantries and yank my arm towards them. Immediately with no thought, I sprinted and pushed through the crowd to run away, I didn't know where to go until straight ahead, a large dark opening. I felt as if I was running for my life until a group of 3 boys emerged from the imposing doorway. They quickly realized what I was doing, and I made a hard right turn. On my new route I saw a forest and figured I could lose the small crowd chasing me there, somewhere to hide for now.
As I ran towards the trees, I noticed one of the boys from the doorway very quickly gaining on me and as I got past the tree line when I was abruptly stopped in my tracks by the same boy who pulled me up, he backed me up into a tree, and with large, calloused hands he held still my wrists and shoulders. I started to try and fight but he spoke again, this time much more assertively,
"HEY calm down, no ones going to hurt you!"
As he spoke, I looked him in the eye this time, I didn't know how else to describe it but his eyes were a familiar shade of blue, they were beautiful stoic eyes. As I focused more on his face, he started to take deep breaths, encouraging me to do the same, I started to calm down and my wave of panic faded, replaced with a sense of familiarity and safety, I felt like I could trust him,
"I'm going to let you go, I promise no one here will hurt you."
I nodded and he slowly let me go and backed away with arms up, the other boy from the doorway who originally kept his distance, started to speak to the taller boy,
"Why the shuck did they send a girl up here?"
As he asked the question, the smaller crowd finally caught up.
"Shucking hell greenie, that was some run" said a blonde skinnier boy, and then one of the darker skinned boys spoke up still trying to catch his breath
"Alright greenie, now that we got that out of the way, let's give you the introduction, everybody get back to work.” To which the guys responded with groans and small complaints, all except the tall blonde boy who caught me. As he walked away he looked back a few times, I wouldn’t be able to tell if anyone else also stared back, I wasn’t paying attention to them.
“My name is Alby, now can you tell me anything about yourself? Any memory before the Box?”
As I stood still and thought it through, I realized I couldn’t remember anything. Earlier I had been so focused on getting away I didn’t think about how I got here.
I couldn’t remember anything, nothing, as if nothing else was there, sure I remembered concepts and things, like surely I had parents and a life before this, but why couldn’t I make out a face? The only thing I could remember was waking up in a sweat in a dark creaky elevator. And then my name, when someone gives you their name, you respond with your own, why couldn’t I remember mine?  I was starting to panic again when Alby said
“Hey it's okay, your name will come in a day or two, it’s the one thing they let us keep. Now come on, you aren’t gonna run again right?”
~
Shortly after Albys introduction thats when I really took it all in, and when I realized where we were, we were surrounded by huge concrete walls that I could barely see in one go, green vines crawling all around it, with the area I was in a huge patch of grassland, forest and wooden structures, everything so imposing to me. I looked around once again to see a group of boys staring and murmuring amongst themselves, whatever just happened with me was definitely an anomaly.
Alby let me know of the rules as we walked around, till we reached the watchtower. As we reached the top and looked around the entire Glade he spoke,
“I hope you're not afraid of heights, I’ll have you stay up here in the meanwhile, I gotta talk to some of our Keepers about the situation…”
“Is it really that weird that I’m here?”
“Yes and no, I just want to make sure you and the rest of the group are comfortable. If everyone respects the rules and does their share, then we’ll all get along just fine.”
“Well, I think me running earlier is about all the trouble and attention I wanna bring.”
“Ha, well you're already good in my book then greenie. Now just stay up here while I come back.”
As he went towards the homestead, and a couple others I noticed one of them was the taller boy. I wished I would’ve caught his name earlier but I thought back to when Alby asked if there was anything I remembered from before the Box. There wasn’t but when I got caught, and I was held by him, something seemed familiar. And I wondered if familiarity isn’t a memory itself.
~
Alby came back after what seemed like an hour, only he came back around with the skinner blonde boy.
“Greenie, this is my second Newt. He’s in charge when I’m not around.”
“And i’m glad he’s always around, that was some running you did earlier girl, you could really have the chops to be a runner.”
“Runner?”
“Trust me, you don’t wanna do it.”
“Newt, do me a favor and accompany her to dinner please, I have some things I gotta do.”
As I went for dinner I met Frypan. He was very sweet and one of the first to make me laugh since I got here. I talked to Newt and met some of the Gladers. A bell rang and Newt said that the workday was done.
Chapter 2: Brawls and Bonfires
The rest of the short afternoon was full of introductions and walking around and I noticed the sun going down. While new Gladers were sent in and given a place to sleep in the regular huts, the Keepers and Alby decided I'd sleep in the Homestead for now, everything else seemed the same, that is until the Greenie from a month ago decided to follow me around.
"Hey I'm Joffrey, I got here a month ago, now I understand how scary all of this might seem but don't worry I can keep you safe around these animals."
With the several boys I'd already interacted with, he was by far the most annoying one yet. I didn’t care for his annoying tone of voice he spoke with, I knew that I was a unique addition to the Glade but I didn't want them to think I was any less capable. For some reason, I wanted to prove myself to them, I'm not sure how but I'd need to find a way.
-------
Night fell and a bonfire was lit, Newt approached me and gave me a bit more information about this place, as he was talking the weird gateway in the walls slowly closed up and was followed with a horrible blood-curdling screech that came over the walls, everyone stopped for a second and went back to the festivities.
“What the hell was that?!”
"That's a Griever. That's what makes the Maze dangerous, no ones ever seen one and lived to tell the tale. That's why we have the rules of the Glade.”
"How long has everyone been here?"
"Every month, the Box sends up new supplies and a new Greenie, so that means someone had to be the first one here. That was Alby, he knows more about this place than any of us."
"Has anyone tried to escape?"
"That's why we have the Runners over there, they map out the Maze, the Keeper is Minho. But HEY, this is supposed to be a celebration, you're our guest of HONOR, the first girl of the Glade! Here take a swig of that, it's Gallys recipe."
It was a bitter drink that burned but the name caught my attention.
"Whose Gally?"
Newt got up and gestured for me to do the same, he smiled and pointed over to the crowd on the other side of the bonfire, he pointed towards the tall boy from earlier, one of the Keepers but for some reason, I never got his name. He was in a circle wrestling with anyone who dared to get in there with him, it seemed fun and heartwarming to me, the only part that seemed strange however were the fleeting glances he was taking towards me.
"He's our Keeper of the Builders, strong guys but not much going on upstairs... but him? He's always stressed and uptight, don't take it personally if he yells at you eventually."
I got a little disappointed for some reason but my intrigue still peaked. I didn't know how to describe it at the time but I was curious.
I listened to Newt talk and I walked with him as I was introduced to more of the Gladers, this time way less formal. I got the same reaction usually, all either excited or shy, but overall plucky and welcoming. I was starting to feel much safer and calmer, maybe even joyful. I picked up conversation with the runners and more specifically Minho,
"That was quite a run earlier, you almost outran me, if Alby didn't forbid me I would've nominated you for runner haha."
"I'm not sure, after that scream I heard earlier maybe I'll leave running to you guys."
We giggled for a bit until an annoying face came up. Joffrey had entered the conversation as if he had already been there,
"Hahaha, the first greenie joke. So, are there any guys here who peak your interest?"
I'm not sure if it's because he was still new here or if he was genuinely stupid, but I didn't care at all for his insinuations and neither did Minho.
"Dude, she just got here. You're messing it up so bad."
"I'm sorry but I'm not here to be anyone's interest." I got a bit more aggressive with my tone at this point. How dare he?
"Oh come on Greenie, you're pretty and maybe some of these guys are nicer looking to you? I'm asking what we're all thinking!"
Minho didn't have much to say after this, in a way he proved him right. I couldn't even blame him, I was after all the first girl and not a bad looking one at that, but I for sure knew that I would not be reduced to just that. I was put here like everyone else, I'd work like everyone else and just maybe, I'd belong like everyone else, in this weird constructed world of ours, I'd help us get out.
I looked over Joffrey once again to see Gallys fleeting glance, he had just thrown someone out and no one seemed to take his offer. So, in a quick movement I shoved Joffrey aside and walked to the circle.
------------------------------------
"WOAH WAIT A MINUTE"
"no way..."
"GALLY DON'T DO IT"
"GO EASY ON HER MAN"
"HE'S GONNA KILL HER"
Shouts roared amongst us as I took my shoes off and faced Gally, who was very clearly in shock. At this point everyone was surrounding us, I took a quick look around to see Newt and Alby trying to stop me and Minho hyping me up, Winston in utter shock and concern. Gally then spoke up and the audience quieted down,
"Hell no I'm not doing this Greenie."
"From what I hear it's tradition, too scared to do it now?"
"I don't wanna hurt you."
"You should be concerned about me hurting you." Ooohs littered the crowd with other side comments. Gally smirked and let a sarcastic laugh out.
"Alright but don't start crying when you get thrown out."
I smiled and got in ready position, the only thing I had to do was not get thrown out, maybe I could tire him out in time,
He charged towards me and I quickly jerked away, he didn't expect me to move so quickly and he tripped at the edge, he got up quickly and embarrassed, I smirked and gestured for more. This time he was quicker to charge, he went for one of my legs this time but in what seemed like a familiar manner, I wrapped my hand around his neck and swung around, my feet hitting the sand.
However he didn't get up immediately, he swung and used his legs to knock out my own, I fell hard on my back. Alright, I really got mad this time. I decided to stop messing around and charged at his stomach, all while grabbing the back of his knees and trying to flip him, which didn't work because he took both of us down with him, with me landing directly on top of him.
He swiftly pushed me off and got up again, as did I. We were both tired at this point and I knew I had to come up with something, Gally charged at me again, only this time much much faster, I didn't have time to come up with anything except duck a bit but it ended with him crashing down on top of me this time at the edge of the circle.
We both got up and I tried to just go ahead and push him, he did the same. Both pushing against each other's shoulders and for just a few moments we locked eyes and stared.
One word came into my mind at that moment...

This has been on my to-do list for ages and it’s taken even longer to make. I’m so happy with how it turned out! Which is your favourite colour on our Pedro boys? Any look you would've put in the matrix instead?
Commentary below the cut.

Red
Javier, Bro Pedro, Mr. Ben, Javi G, Mario
Three of the red looks came from SNL, and I'm not complaining. I am especially feral for Mr. Ben's red sweater look, he looks broad AF in it. Javier of course rocks several red shirts in the series, but this one with the arms crossed is iconic.
Yellow
Oberyn, Javi G, Javier, Frankie
Personally, yellow is probably my favourite colour on P. He just carries it so gorgeously - the marigold yellow on Javi G and Oberyn's sun robes are literally the golden standard.
Green
Javier, Dieter, Dave, Joel
We need more green in P's wardrobe! His emerald green velvet suit on Jimmy Fallon took my breath away, and I lament the fact that we don't see this colour often enough on him. I hope Joel's green plaid shirt is just the beginning.
Blue
Javi G, Jack, Dave, Mr. Ben, Marcus Moreno
Wardrobe loves putting this man in a blue office shirt. For something different, I adore Javi G's pale blue suit, and of course - Jack's iconic snowsuit.
White
Charlie, Max Lord, Javier, Marcus Pike
I was a bit annoyed to find out that we didn't actually get a frontal shot of P in the white t-shirt in the Sia music video, so had to improvise with a two Javier looks (yet again). I do love this man in a white shirt without a tie almost as much as in a simple white t-shirt. And also hospital scrubs.
Gray
Veracruz, Din, Frankie, Marcus Pike, Zach
I know, I know, Din's beskar is silver but it had to go somewhere. I do love this man in a gray round neck t-shirt, we get him in three!
Black
Dave, Dio, Nico, Javier, Marcus Moreno
Ngl, Dave's assassin look sends me... this man looks so sleek in black. As bizarre as Nico is, the black turtleneck is such a classic and he looks so good in it!
P.S. We need more purple on P! There was unfortunately not enough material for one row and my OCD didn’t let me put in an incomplete row 🤷🏻‍♀️ Shoutout to Javier's violet shirt and Dieter's washed out purple tshirt!
