A exposição “Enciclopédia Negra”, que ocupou a Pinacoteca de São Paulo em 2021, chegou no Museu de Arte do Rio.
Parte do projeto com livro publicado pela editora Companhia das Letras e organizado por Lilia M. Schwarcz, Flávio Gomes e Jaime Lauriano, a exposição inaugurada em São Paulo destaca personalidades negras que não foram representadas pela história hegemônica do Brasil.
Em 2022, a exposição foi remontada no Museu de Arte do Rio. Na exposição Coleção MAR + Enciclopédia Negra, os curadores Marcelo Campos e Amanda Bonan também criaram um diálogo, sobretudo, com a coleção africana e afro-brasileira do Museu de Arte do Rio.
A artista Panmela Castro participa da exposição com 5 obras: Catarina Cassange (presente no livro), Lourença Correia, Mathias Henrique da Silva e Faustino da Silva Paiva, Felipa Maria Aranha e Ana, Deolinda e Isabel, capoeiristas.

The exhibition “Black Encyclopedia”, which occupied the Pinacoteca de São Paulo in 2021, arrived at the Museu de Arte do Rio.
The “Black Encyclopedia” exhibition, that Part of a project with a book published by Companhia das Letras and organized by Lilia M. Schwarcz, Flávio Gomes and Jaime Lauriano, the exhibition inaugurated in São Paulo highlights black personalities who were not represented by the hegemonic history of Brazil.
In 2022, the exhibition was reassembled at the Museu de Arte do Rio. In the MAR Collection + Black Encyclopedia exhibition, curators Marcelo Campos and Amanda Bonan also created a dialogue, above all, with the African and Afro-Brazilian collection of the Museu de Arte do Rio.
The artist Panmela Castro participates in the exhibition with 5 works: Catarina Cassange (present in the book), Lourença Correia, Mathias Henrique da Silva and Faustino da Silva Paiva, Felipa Maria Aranha and Ana, Deolinda and Isabel, capoeiristas.

Durante o mês de junho, estive em NY produzindo novas obras para as minhas séries “Vigília” e “Residência”. Foi um momento de muitos encontros e novos aprendizados com o outro.
Uma das novas retratadas foi Kah Walla, um ativista camaronesa que, assim como eu, faz parte da Vital Voices, ONG fundada por Hillary Clinton em 1999 e que reúne diversas lideranças femininas do globo. A tela de Kah Walla participou da Frieze, uma das feiras de arte mais importantes do mundo, onde pude participar pela primeira vez com o apoio da Galeria Luisa Strina.
A viagem para NY também foi um momento de reencontrar antigos amigos, como o Miro Spinelli, e conhecer pessoas maravilhosas como Zinhle Essamuah e Zuzuka Poderosa.

In June, I was in NY producing new works for my series “Vigil” and “Residence”. It was a moment of many encounters and new learnings with the other.
One of the new ones portrayed was Kah Walla, a Cameroonian activist who, like me, is part of Vital Voices, an NGO founded by Hillary Clinton in 1999 and which brings together several female leaders from around the world. Kah Walla's canvas participated in Frieze, one of the most important art fairs in the world, where I was able to participate for the first time with the support of Galeria Luisa Strina.
The trip to NY was also a time to be with old friends, like Miro Spinelli, and meet wonderful people like Zinhle Essamuah and Zuzuka Poderosa.

No dia 5 de maio de 2022, a ex-primeira-dama e secretária de Estado dos Estados Unidos, Hillary Clinton, inaugurou a primeira embaixada global para mulheres, em Washington, D.C., EUA. O projeto da embaixada foi financiado pela Vital Voices Global Partnership, ONG fundada pela própria Hillary junto de Madeleine Albright, ex-secretária do Estado, e que tem como missão a promoção de lideranças de mulheres ao redor do mundo.
A embaixada consiste em um prédio em que cada sala leva o nome de uma liderança mundial, como é o exemplo da Biblioteca, que leva o nome da vencedora do prêmio nobel da paz Malala Yousezfai, e da galeria de arte que leva o nome da carioca Panmela Castro e de Samar Minallah Khan, ativista paquistanesa.
Panmela participa ativamente da Vital Voices Global Partnership há mais de 12 anos, graças ao reconhecimento do seu trabalho pela promoção dos direitos das mulheres através da Rede NAMI, ONG fundada pela artista em 2010 e que usa as artes para promover nossos direitos.
A Panmela Castro and Samar Minallah Khan Gallery, galeria de arte nomeada em homenagem à artista representada pela Galeria Luisa Strina e que em outubro de 2021 inaugurou a sua primeira individual em São Paulo, “Ostentar é estar viva”, será o espaço onde jovens artistas ativistas ao redor do globo vão poder promover seus trabalhos de arte.
A Vital Voices acredita na verdade universal em que mulheres são a chave para o progresso de suas comunidades, e que as nações só podem seguir em frente uma vez que elas ocupem espaços de poder. A ONG já investiu em mais de 20.000 agentes de transformação, passando por 184 países desde sua formação, há 24 anos atrás.

On May 5, 2022, Former First Lady and United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton opened the first global embassy for women in Washington, D.C., USA. The embassy project was financed by Vital Voices Global Partnership, an NGO founded by Hillary together with Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State, whose mission is to promote women's leadership around the world.
The embassy consists of a building in which each room is named after a world leader, as is the example of the Library, named after the Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousezfai, and the art gallery named after Panmela Castro and Samar Minallah Khan, a Pakistani activist.
Panmela has actively participated in the Vital Voices Global Partnership for over 12 years, thanks to the recognition of her work in promoting women's rights through Rede NAMI, an NGO founded by the artist in 2010 that uses the arts to promote our rights.
The Panmela Castro and Samar Minallah Khan Gallery, an art gallery named in honor of the artist represented by Luisa Strina Gallery and which in October 2021 opened her first solo show in São Paulo, “To Flaunt is to be Alive”, will be the space where young artists activists around the globe will be able to promote their artwork.
Vital Voices believes in the universal truth that women are the key to the progress of their communities, and that nations can only move forward once they occupy spaces of power. The NGO has already invested in more than 20,000 change agents, passing through 184 countries since its formation, 24 years ago.

Domingo, dia 1º de maio de 2022, aconteceu a abertura da exposição "Pertencer e Mudar", com curadoria de Priscila Rooxo. A exposição, que contou com artistas convocades a partir de uma chamada aberta e também com alunas que participaram do programa #AfroGrafiteiras de 2021, está em exibição no Museu da República (Catete, Rio de Janeiro) até o dia 29 de maio de 2022.
Na ocasião do evento, que aconteceu no feriado do Dia do Trabalhador, as alunas participantes do programa receberam seus certificados de participação, reiterando o compromisso da Rede NAMI em formar novos agentes que sejam responsáveis pelas mudanças que queremos.
As lideranças de mulheres negras, indígenas, com deficiência, pessoas trans e travestis, se fazem cada vez mais urgentes, e é a partir do entendimento da arte enquanto ferramenta de transformação que a Rede NAMI forma não apenas artistas, mas também educadoras, cientistas, pesquisadoras e inclusive políticas, vide o caso de Joyce Trindade, ex-aluna do #AfroGrafiteiras e que está atualmente como Secretária da Mulher na cidade do Rio de Janeiro.
Joyce esteve presente na abertura da exposição e foi responsável pela entrega dos certificados para as alunas, inspirando uma nova geração de pessoas a ocupar os espaços de decisão e poder.

Sunday, May 1, 2022, it happened the opening of the exhibition "To belong and to change", commissioned by Priscila Rooxo. The exhibition, which featured artists invited from an open call and also students who participated in the 2021 #AfroGrafiteiras program, is on display at The Republic Museum (Catete, Rio de Janeiro) until May 29, 2022.
On the occasion of the event, which took place on the Labor Day holiday, the students participating in the program received their participation certificates, reiterating the Rede NAMI's commitment to training new agents who are responsible for the changes we want.
The black, indigenous, with disabilities women and trans people leadership are becoming increasingly urgent, and it is from the understanding of art as a tool of transformation that Rede NAMI trains not only artists, but also educators, scientists, researchers and even politicians, as the case of Joyce Trindade, a former student of #AfroGrafiteiras and who is currently the Women's Secretary in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Joyce was present at the opening of the exhibition and was responsible for delivering the certificates to the students, inspiring a new generation of people to occupy the decision-making and power spaces.

Dia 3 de abril de 2022 participei mais uma vez da Revista ELA, periódico que acompanha o jornal O Globo semanalmente aos domingos. Desta vez, o jornalista Eduardo Vanini visitou meu novo ateliê, no Catete, e conversamos um pouco sobre minha vivência nas artes, minhas atuais pesquisas e sobre o calendário de futuras exposições nas quais minhas obras estarão presentes. On April 3, 2022, I participated once again in ELA Magazine, a periodical that comes with the newspaper O Globo weekly on Sundays. This time, journalist Eduardo Vanini visited my new studio and we talked about my life experience, my current research in arts and about the future calendar of exhibitions in which my works will be present.
