GOOD LUCK.
I have an orchestra concert tonight and I’m pissed, our orchestra is terrible, and this is not a “the artist always unfairly judges their work” situation. Our orchestra has not made any noticeable improvements from last year. Also, our orchestra is going to a local contest, one that nobody in our orchestra wants to go to because they know what the outcome is, they know we won’t do well, and it eats into our day after school. WE HAVE TO GO AFTER SCHOOL HOURS. We need to hop on a bus and go to another high school to compete in a contest that will not have any benefits towards our orchestra, one that won’t help us improve, help us be more confident, or help with anything related. I am considering so hard just “being sick” that day because I am not fucking doing this contest. Partially because IT WILL GO TILL AT LEASE 5:00 on a Friday evening, Friday! The one day of the week where you can be damn sure people have after school plans. Ones that they will have to postpone or something similar.
You may think “oh what about regular concerts, surely those are after school” and you’re right BUT THEYRE NEVER. ON. A. FRIDAY. They are never on a pretty much guaranteed day where people will have plan.
Also, with the contests you are judged by your orchestras etiquette, which is something our orchestra does not have. There are about 5/25 kids who simply have no respect for the class, kids who won’t stop talking, won’t stop playing out of turn, and are generally a nuisance to society. We will lose points because of them.
