Chapter 20
Warnings: Mostly sfw, slight nsfw (Mentions sexual assault and mental health), Slight Angst.
Pairing: Shouta Aizawa x OC (Mai Montoya, Pro Hero Zion)
If you want to read of the events before this chapter here is the Master List 😊
As I looked through the exam replays while making notes about how Aizawa should tackle their training during the camp, a small cup of coffee was placed to my left, with red painted nails over the lid. I look over my shoulder to meet with a ruby red grin.
“I figured since it’s a little chilly in here, I would get you something different from your usual. Mic and Aizawa mentioned you liked hot white chocolate mochas with vanilla sweet foam and cocoa powder. Said it tasted like tiramisu cake to you.” She gave a small shrug while I reached over for the drink.
“Why the treat giving all of a sudden?” I took a sip, and my lips were immediately met with the toasted coffee-flavored sweetness. I hummed a little in delight.
“You haven’t gotten up from your desk nor stopped looking at your screen for a good two hours. I figured you needed a small something to break you away.”
“Oh… thanks. I just wanted to review everything from the exams and make sure I got all of this to Aizawa before he takes the kids to the camp.”
“You’re not going?”
“Vlad and Aizawa mentioned it was best that the least amount of people knew the location of the training camp to make sure students were safe. To be fair, I would like a little break. Sometime in the week, I am expecting a video conference about my license status this upcoming Monday. I got an email about it earlier.”
“Well, that’s good to hear. It's been months. They should’ve been giving you an update sooner.” Kayama sneered in disapproval.
“Yeah… so I kind of need a break from the students for at least a day.” I looked over to Kayama, who looked a little worried. “I promise I won’t be worrying too much about it. Or overwork myself trying to get this stuff done.”
“That’s not what I am worried about. Isn’t Gemini supposed to be in the meeting since he’s in charge of the agency you were working with?” She bit her cheek nervously, bringing up Gemini.
I sighed, “I’m trying not to think about it right now. I just want to think about the fact that I am one meeting closer to having my suspension lifted.”
“I just don’t want him to humiliate you or do something that will prevent your suspension from ending, that’s all. He was already harassing you despite it being against the court’s ruling.” She rubbed my back comfortingly.
“And I changed my number to get it to stop, so it’s fine. I can handle it.” I gave her a smile.
“Oh, okay, but just know if anything happens, I’m always here for you. You can always just stay here and continue working in Japan.” She rubbed my shoulder and made her way out of the office. “I’ll be with Snipe. If you need anything, text me.” She winked and sauntered off.
I continued typing out my worksheet for a little longer until my eyes grew tired and strained. I switched from my earbuds to Mic’s headphones so I wouldn’t get any interruptions. Clearly, someone didn’t get the memo when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I swiveled around in my chair to see Aizawa and Vlad hovering over me. I took Mic’s headphones off slowly as I looked at them in confusion, “Yes?”
“We decided that it would be a good idea to have you help us train the students in the training camp,” Aizawa spoke up with his files in hand and a bored expression.
“That is if you want to come,” Vlad added with an apologetic smile.
I blinked and looked between the two. “You decided without talking to me?”
“We’re talking right now.” Aizawa pointed.
I pushed my glasses up my nose and sighed, “I meant that you should’ve given me a heads up. First, I was sitting for hours making a whole report about tackling the students’ training. If it was in question for me to come, I wouldn’t have been wasting my time. Plus, you both need to know whether I am free enough to even go in the first place.”
Vlad rubbed the back of his neck, “That’s what I was telling Eraser when he brought it up.”
“Your schedule is free all throughout the summer break. What could you be possibly-”
“I have a meeting about my suspension Monday morning.” I interrupted Aizawa. Annoyance laced in my voice. “Don’t assume I have nothing to do.”
Aizawa closed his mouth and tensed up his jaw. He always did that when he knew he messed up and looked like an ass.
I shut my eyes, “Where is the location? And does it have wifi?” I can always just work around my meeting.
Aizawa gave me a folder with the name of the location and the owners of the location. I looked at him, “The Wild Wild Pussycats?”
“They’re friends of mine.” Aizawa defended.
“I swear to God, Aizawa if they’re furries…”
“They’re not furries!”
------------------------------
They were low-key furries…
As the students were forced to get to the Wild Wild Pussycats headquarters on their own, much to my dismay, I was attempting to use Aizawa’s hotspot to connect to my meeting. Aizawa and his friend Mandalay and her teammates were silently and awkwardly watching me stress out refreshing my laptop.
“Please work, please work, please work,” I mumbled mainly to myself.
“Is she usually like this?” I heard Mandalay said to Aizawa.
“Eh… depends on the situation. With hero work, she’s pretty calm and collective.” Aizawa responded.
“I would be nervous too if I was about to miss a meeting about my license.” Ragdoll chimed in.
Ding “You are now in the chat!”
“Yes! Oh, thank God!” I squealed in relief.
“Ms. Montoya? Is everything alright?” An old masculine voice came out of my laptop.
“Oh, yes, sorry. I was having connection problems… How are you today, Mr. Malcolm?” I smiled brightly even though I was ready to implode.
“Yes, I am doing well, thank you. Um, where are you currently?” The man’s bushy grey eyebrows furrowed together.
“Hehehe, I am on a bus on my way to a training camp for my hero course students. I couldn’t get out of coming since I was their counselor. I hope you don’t mind this.” I scratched the back of my neck.
“No, it’s alright, just happy to see you were able to work this meeting in with your schedule. I hope you are enjoying your time in Japan. The rest will be joining us in a moment. If you don’t mind, can you wear any earbuds or headphones? That way, the meeting stays confidential.”
I nodded, “Of course, sir. Just give me a second while I find…” I shuffled around to my purse to look for my Bluetooth earbuds but struggled to find them. The next thing I knew, they were in my face. I looked up to see Aizawa holding them out for me. “Thank you. Alright, I have them now.”
Shortly the rest of the people showed up at the meeting. The last person being Gemini. He looked extremely pleased to be in the meeting, which made me nervous. Which was probably the point. I stayed silent as they read over my file and my case. It had everything from when I enrolled in U.A. to my internships all the way to my job right now as a counselor. “So, from the updates, we have gotten from your boss Nezu and your coworker and pro hero Eraserhead, it seems that you have been following the guidelines of your suspension, which is good to hear. However, there seems to be this information about these phone calls that Gemini wanted to address.” Oh no… it was hard to hear what was said. My heart was thumping in my ears. “It seemed to be located through the Gemini Agency and U.A., meaning there was possible communication between you and someone at the agency. Which does violate the terms of the suspension.”
That’s why he kept calling…
“So, I am sorry, Ms. Montoya, as much as I would love to lift your suspension early. We would have to wait until the beginning of next year to review everything again and see if you can work in the U.S. again. However, we will allow you to continue your counseling job at Cal A if you decide that you don’t want to stay your whole suspension in Japan. I hope you have a good day.”
“Thank you. Have a good day.” I attempted to not look upset, but who knows if I was able to mask it or not. I clicked the leave button once everyone started to leave and closed my laptop. I saw Aizawa and the Wild Wild Pussycats waiting patiently from the corner of my eye to see what happened. I chewed my bottom lip to prevent myself from crying in front of people I barely knew. I felt like that was a sign for Aizawa to come up and sit next to me, gently grabbing my laptop out of my hands. He then wrapped an arm around my shoulders and softly moved my head to rest on his right shoulder. He then looked at the team of heroes and gave them a sad smile, and shook his head to motion them not to talk about the meeting or ask anything.
I felt him stroke my hair and rest his mouth just an inch away from my head to whisper, “You’ll be okay, Mai.”
The rest of the bus ride was short but quiet, so it felt agonizingly long. I felt bad that I let the mood shift so low. But we did end up there before the students were even halfway through the forest. Aizawa helped me with my suitcase while we walked off the bus into the building. “Huh. I expected an actual camp. But that’s because Eraser didn’t give me much description about your headquarters.”
“Oh yeah, that’s mainly because it’s his first time here. He’s only been to our old location a couple years back.” Mandalay explained. “I hope you don’t mind, but you’ll be rooming with me. The building might look big, but most of the rooms are meeting rooms, tech rooms, or just empty.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it. I just appreciate that you made room for me to come.” I quickly waved my hands in front of me as she giggled at my reaction.
“She’s a cutie, Eraser. No wonder you used to like her!” Mandalay teased.
I just looked behind me at the man standing with my suitcase. “What is she talking about?”
Aizawa’s face was mixed with embarrassment and discontent, “Nothing, I’m putting our stuff inside, and then I’m taking a nap. The students won’t be here for another hour.”
“Awe, the poor grump is embarrassed.” Mandalay leaned against me, smirking, “We met around the time you were last in Japan a few years back. So he mentioned you and was annoyed by the fact that he wasn’t over you. I thought it was cute but stupid that he didn’t do anything about it.” Someone doesn’t mind keeping things to herself. “That’s actually the reason why we didn’t work out when we tried dating. I kind of felt that his heart wasn’t in it because he was still caught up in what could’ve been with you.” She gave me a genuine smile, “Don’t worry, my heart wasn’t in it either, so there aren't any hard feelings. I’m just happy to finally meet the one that got away.”
My mouth was left hanging as my cheeks heated. I didn’t know how to respond to that. How would anyone respond to that?
She laughed again, “You are so cute. C’mon, let me show you around the place. Maybe this camp will be like a week-long slumber party with us girls?” This was going to be an interesting week for sure. Why did I agree to this?
---------------
The poor students were exhausted and took about an extra hour longer than expected. I felt terrible, but Aizawa dropped this on me like he did them, so I couldn’t do anything but nag him about it. Luckily, their actual training wasn’t starting until tomorrow. I just continued to act as if everything was normal and try to push past the news I got early.
As the Pussycats were giving them a tour around the place, I was just unpacking my suitcase to get my training outfit ready for tomorrow. It wasn’t anything special, just some running pants and a sports bra. I was also getting my nightshirt and shorts ready for when I needed to change later for bed. The Pussycats also provided the students a meal since they felt bad for leaving them to work so hard to get to camp. I sat with Mandalay and her nephew, who was looking for an opportunity to sneak away from the room.
“Mai, can I ask you a huge favor?” Mandalay spoke up. I simply nodded in response, “Do you think you can maybe talk with Kota? I feel like he needs to see someone about what happened to him and his parents. But I don’t want to take him to a therapist yet since he’s so young.”
“Well, there are children psychologists, but I don’t mind helping you out. It's better than doing nothing.” I gave her a reassuring smile when all of a sudden, my phone vibrated. I looked down and saw it was an unknown number with a video message. “Excuse me for a second, I have to check this. We could talk about a time to set up a meeting with Kota when I come back.”
I got up from the table and into the hallway as I opened the message.
Unknown Number
It was nice seeing you again, my lovely flower. I just wanted to give you a little momentum for our time together. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Maybe now you’ll remember to never test me. I own your career. With one simple video, you can kiss your hero career goodbye. You can always just apologize for defying me and stay being my little flower.
I regretted opening the video file. How can someone be so vile? I felt like I was going to throw up.
The video was of the night that would haunt me in my nightmares. The only view the camera had was of my face and body being violated. No one watching the video would never know who was the one filming or the one violating me. I was seventeen, drugged up, and influenced by Gemini’s mind control quirk. And it was all filmed. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the horrifying sight. I was trying to not be upset all day, and he knew it. He somehow always knew what I was doing. It was like once he got in my head, he knew my every thought and move. My privacy, my autonomy, were not really mine after him. I quickly got out of the conversation and put my phone away. I’ll just pretend it didn’t happen and sleep it off.
To say I was jittering the rest of the night would be an understatement. I felt uncomfortable like bugs were crawling all over me. I would jump whenever the students or Aizawa would try and talk to me. I even shrunk away from Aizawa when he tried to grab my shoulder to get my attention. He looked a little offended but didn’t press me. It wasn’t until Mandalay mentioned something that I had to explain why I was so jumpy.
“I’m just thinking about my meeting, I was trying to ignore what happened, but it sneaked up on me.” I shrugged.
“I understand. Do you maybe want to use the hot spring after the students to relax and wash the bad news and stress away?” I gave her a nod and a tight lip smile. “Cool, I’ll get the robes and towels then so we can get started.” Mandalay was really nice. And really pretty, I could see why Aizawa liked her. Such a shame they didn’t last. They would’ve been perfect.
When she came back to the living room, Midoriya came running in with an unconscious Kota. “What happened?” We both went up to look at Kota. I moved out of my spot on the couch to have Midoriya set Kota down.
“Mineta was climbing up the wall to try and peep at the girls on the other side, and Kota stopped him but fell. I don’t know how he passed out, though. I caught him before he fell into the water.” Midoriya explained awkwardly, standing in a towel. I went to grab another towel to wet it so it could be placed on Kota’s forehead.
“Eraserhead mentioned that one of you boys was a little girl crazy. So I posted Kota up there to make sure the boy didn’t do anything. I could assume that it was the fall that made him pass out. Thank you.” Mandalay spoke while I handed her the wet towel, and she placed it on Kota. Midoriya shifted around a little, worried about the kid. He then asked about why Kota was so inanimate about pro heroes. Since Mandalay already told me about it, I suggested that I leave them alone to talk while I check on the rest of the students and lecture Mineta.
I waited until all the students were in their rooms to go talk to them. All went well on the girls and with the rest of the boys. However, with Mineta, let’s just say my lecture went in through one ear and out the other. So, I opted to go disrupt Aizawa to talk to Mineta. Unfortunately, he was not in his room. I ran into Tiger in the hallway as I was walking out of Aizawa’s room, “Hey, Tiger, have you seen Eraserhead? I need to talk to him about one of the students.”
“Last time I saw him, he was heading to the hot spring after the students went to their rooms.” The large man was in his normal civilian wear now, a t-shirt with a cat face on it and some Capri running pants. He was wearing some kitten slippers to walk inside the building with. It was different from his uniform but not far away from the cat theme. And Aizawa used to wonder why I didn’t hang around cat people back when we were kids.
“Thank you, Tiger. Have a goodnight, bub.” I grinned up at him as I rushed to the hot spring. He chided a goodnight as I passed by and went into his room.
Sure enough, the grumpy slug was relaxing in the hot spring like he had nothing to do. I removed my slippers to slip into some sandals laid out at the entrance to the hot spring and quietly made my way behind the man hovering over his peaceful frame in the water. He was laying back on the rocks displayed at the edge of the spring with his eyes closed and arms stretched out. His hair was damped and was pushed back out of his face. His breathing was steady, with his chest slowly rising and falling. I couldn’t help but stare a little as I crossed my arms and waited for him to notice me.
“Take a picture. It will last longer, pervert.” The man leaned his head back and opened his charcoal grey eyes that reflected the night sky above us.
I raised an eyebrow at him and started tapping my foot, not amused by his comment.
“What do you want, Mai?”
“Mineta tried to peek at the girls while they were using the hot spring, and he didn’t want to listen to me, so I need you to scare him.”
“Right now?” The man started to close his eyes and moved his head back to its original position.
“Yes.”
“I never get to relax. Can I do it in the morning? Maybe I can make him do extra training as punishment along with the lecturing?” He suggested. I stayed quiet because I didn’t feel like that was enough of a punishment. Maybe it was my own personal feelings kicking in, but I really wanted this kid to learn to not be such a perverted creep. I didn’t want him to be doing the same shit Gemini was to his future women colleagues. Aizawa leaned back again to look at me, “Is that not a good punishment?”
“Nope.”
“Then what do you suggest?”
“Castration.”
Aizawa’s eyes widened, and then he stood up from his spot and turned his whole body in my direction. Which he shouldn’t have done. The water cascading down his body was a little distracting. How did I not notice his muscles like this when I was bandaging him up? Since when did he have body hair? And why do I like it? God, Mai, this is not the time… “Should I be concerned that you want to castrate a student?” He had a happy trail… and toned wet abs…. Jesus Christ, I’m acting like Mineta. “Mai?”
I looked up to his eyes as he looked at me, waiting, “No, it was a joke. That’s all.” I turned my cheek to hide the blush creeping up my face.
He folded his arms, which made both his arms and chest bulge and not helping me pay attention to his face, “Is there something wrong?” He raised an eyebrow at me and had a subtle smirk plastered on his face. Great, he knows that I was unintentionally checking him out.
“Nope, nothing’s wrong, just a student harassing other students.”
“Right, nothing else?”
“Nope.”
“You know when you lie, your voice gets higher, and your eyes start widening while you get pouty and raise your eyebrows.” He gave me a knowing smirk. I hate this. I would prefer not to get teased right now.
“I do know that. That’s why I choose not to lie. Because I am a bad liar.” I honestly said. Not budging.
We stared at each other with folded arms in silence.
“Fine, you can talk to him in the morning. Only because it’s really late.” I gave in, letting out an exasperated sigh and unfolding my arms.
“Okay. I promise I’ll castrate him while I’m at it.” He chuckled, making me let out a breathy one of my own.
“Alright, well, I’m going to go to bed now and leave you alone. Goodnight.” I had an effortless and genuine smile on my face. Leave it for the grump to get me in a better mood without even trying.
“Mai, wait.” I turned back to see Aizawa lean forward on the edge of the hot spring, his head resting on his forearms. “Do you want to talk about what happened in the meeting? Or maybe what happened in the hospital? Whichever is easier to tackle first. I kind of want to get things between us situated.”
I sat down on the floor across from him, “What did you want to situate?”
“Well, you seemed to be getting serious with Vlad, and well, we can’t ignore how we keep having certain moments with each other. I don’t want to string myself along, and I don’t want to hurt Vlad. And I’m sure you feel that way too.”
“This is the first time I’m having you talk about your feelings.” I joked a little.
“I thought I was over my feelings for you from high school. But I don’t know what’s been happening. I don’t know if my feelings are genuine or just me indulging in old forgotten feelings because I never got closure. It’s irrational. And I don’t act irrationally.” He looked at me seriously, “I think we need some sort of boundaries.”
Part of me agreed with him. Part of me also wanted to tell him that Vlad and I weren’t that serious. We were just new. Part of me wanted to jump into the spring and kiss his wet plump lips. They were just begging me to kiss them. Part of me wanted to ask him what he wanted to tell me at the hospital. But I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Most of me wanted to crawl into a hole and be forgotten.
I am not someone that Vlad or Aizawa should be with. It wasn’t fair to either of them if they were with me. So I made it up in my mind that I shouldn’t be with either of them. Though, something in Aizawa’s midnight eyes was telling me to not agree with him. Like he was pleading for me to say something else. “Maybe we should. It’s just juvenile to let old feelings dictate what we do. You’re right. It’s irrational.” I avoided his eyes. They tempted me, to tell the truth, which was buried in the pit of my heart. As I played with my fingers, my lips slipped out a question, “What were you going to tell me at the hospital before Midoriya interrupted?”
Now it was his turn to avoid my eyes and bury his face in his arms. It took him a minute to speak up. “I was going to say that I really wanted you to… I really wanted you to know that I loved you when we were kids. That it was never just a childish crush. I was just stupid and thought it was foolish to do something about it.”
“Hmmm… well, I guess I should tell you that I loved you too, I was just too naive to know that I was. So I just assumed I was misplacing my feelings because I never knew what love felt like.” Sadly, it took me dealing with everything I did after leaving to realize it was the real thing. “But I guess we were too late,” I muttered mainly to myself, not really wanting him to hear it.
“I guess.”
“Vlad and I aren’t that serious. He doesn’t even feel comfortable enough for me to call him by his given name. And it's been a little awkward since that. So, I don’t think we’re going to last. It’s probably better off that way. I shouldn’t really be with anyone.” I hugged myself while looking at my knees. “I like Mandalay. She told me about you guys. I think you guys would’ve been cute. You guys both like naps and cats.” I joked a little more to lighten the mood.
“She’s a furry.”
“I thought you said that the Wild Wild Pussycats weren’t furries?”
“Oh, so you’re defending them now?” A small teasing smirk broke out of his face.
“At most, she’s a catgirl. Which is right up your ally.” After a second of thinking, I started to burst into laughter. “Ally cat!”
Aizawa looked incredibly confused, “Huh?”
“Ally cat! You’re an alley cat because you're an underground hero!” It made no sense why I thought it was funny. Honestly, I would be confused too if I was in Aizawa’s position. But for some reason, it was funny to me at the moment. Maybe it was the sleepiness kicking in?
He still looked at me confused, but his eyes were warm, and he was grinning like an idiot. “You have such a broken sense of humor. I blame Oboro for that. He corrupted you with his stupid jokes.”
I pouted, “I think I have a great sense of humor. It’s a little on the dark side, but at least you know I can make light out of any situation!”
“Yeah, sure.”
“You think threatening students with expulsion is funny. You can’t judge anyone else’s humor.” I yawned. “Alright, I think now, I should go. Anything else we need to discuss before I hibernate?”
He looked at me with a soft boyish closed-lip grin, “No, go to sleep. You need to rest before training tomorrow. Have a goodnight, Mai.”
I yawned again as I got up, “Goodnight, Sho. Get some sleep too, don’t stay up too late.”
“I won’t. Lov…” I couldn’t hear the last part once I returned to the entrance of the hot spring. All I was able to hear was that Aizawa stopped himself before he finished it.

Chapter 19
Warnings: None, swf.
Pairing: Shouta Aizawa x OC (Mai Montoya, Pro Hero Zion)
If you want to read of the events before this chapter here is the Master List 😊
If I wasn't in the compromising position I was in right now, I swear my reaction to Vlad telling me that the hero course final's practical exam was being changed this year, I would be stomping over to Nezu to give him a piece of my mind.
We were currently sitting on my couch with his bulldog perched up on my lap, snoring his little life away, and Vlad placing my feet in his lap while we were watching a movie. Vlad thought it was best to tell me the news after spending some time with his dog since he knew it would have me in a good mood. How dare he use my love for dogs against me?
"I can't believe this. Why didn't anyone tell the counselors? Wasn't Hounddog in the meeting?" I chastised while lightly caressing the dog's ear.
"You mean, you and Lily? The only two hero course counselors? Because you would both be against it, and Nezu didn't want to deal with the two of you." He said as he lightly massaged my feet.
"Well, he wouldn't have to deal with us if he treated our students like students and not soldiers," I grumbled. The bulldog started to rustle in his sleep, waking up slightly to cuddle further into me. "I think your dog likes me more than you."
"He's just a spoiled baby and likes when he gets attention. Have fun with her while you can buddy, I have her for the rest of the night." I couldn't help but laugh at how he acted with his dog. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you before the week off the exam. But I can't say I disagree with Nezu and Aizawa about upping the exams' difficulty. With the recent villain attack and how more and more villains are popping up. Or with how All Might is right now. I can see that we do need to train them more efficiently to be better prepared for the changing world."
"But they're only first-year students. It's a little excessive to me to be putting so much on them so early. I understand the need. I do. I just feel like the pace needs to slow down a bit."
"Midnight said that in the meeting. I'm surprised that you haven't asked what they wanted to do for the practical yet. I figured that would've been the first thing that came to mind." Vlad looked away from the TV to meet my gaze.
"What did they wanted to do?" I let my face fall in disgruntlement.
"They want the teachers to fight the students." He flatly said.
"THEY WHAT?" Vlad aggressively shushed me and pointed to the dog, who was scared awake. I quickly patted the little guy and cooed him, "Oh, I'm sorry, sweetie, I didn't mean to scare you. Relax and go back to sleep."
Vlad looked at me for a moment. His eyes were a little unreadable. He then shrugged and spoke a matter-of-factly, "I told you that we didn't tell you and Lily for a reason."
"What am I supposed to do now? Just sit and watch while grown adults fight students?" He nodded in response, "Vlad." No response, "Vlad?" Nothing. "Sekijiro?"
He finally went back to giving me his attention, "Yeah?"
"You really agreed to this?" I pleaded.
"You called me by my first name?" He squinted in confusion, then relaxed, "Yes, I did. They made valid arguments."
I simply hummed and nodded, dropping the subject, not like I can do anything about it. Then I looked at him while he had his attention on the screen in front of us. "Did I cross a line? Was it not okay to call you by Sekjiro?"
"Hmm? No, it's not that. Just didn't expect it, that's all. You rarely call me by it, only Vlad or my family name." He rubbed the back of his neck, he was trying not to show that he was uncomfortable, but the whole room felt different from a minute ago.
"I'm sorry. I should've probably asked first. I just assumed that since-- never mind. If it made you uncomfortable, I'd just call you by Vlad or by your last name until you want me to call you something else." I didn't mean to look so wounded, but I couldn't help the way my voice got quiet and the way I held my chin low. I didn't mean to make things so awkward. Since high school, we've known each other, and now we were sort of dating, so it was a simple mistake—no big deal.
"No, I get it, you assumed that we were close enough... which we are... I.. uh." Vlad struggled to find the words he wanted to say. He moved from his spot on the couch to stand and walk over to me and kissed my forehead, "We are close. I just didn't expect it." He said that, and he looked at me lovingly when he did. But it didn't feel like it was the truth.
I still leaned forward to give him a small peck, "Okay, let's just finish the movie and call it a night." We exchanged smiles and continued the night with the awkwardness hanging above our heads. Luckily I had the dog to distract me.
__________
Midnight was walking into the teacher lounge to find Lily and I waiting for her at her desk. She went from her normal sultry demeanor to a slow and bewildered one, "Yes?"
Lily spoke up first, "So the practical exam was changed, and you were against it but didn't warn us?"
"Who snitched?" Midnight scrunched her face in anguish like a shameless kid that got caught doing something they knew they weren't supposed to do. She slumped and leaned on one foot folding her arms. Her signature whip in hand. "I didn't say anything because I didn't want to look like a whiny, childish colleague to the teachers. Despite my seniority, I still have to pick my battles when I want to be voicing out issues during meetings."
"If it's because you are one of the few women on the teacher's staff, I could definitely whip the men into shape to take you seriously," I reassured her.
"I would've expected for you to have a lot more say than anyone." Lily mirrored Midnight's pose, "But I guess it's different when no one else is backing you up."
"To be fair, I think you guys will be amused with the way we teachers were paired off with the students, especially your students, Mai." Midnight brushed off the topic of the inequity between the men and women staff and moved on to explain how the exam changed.
"Let me guess. You are up against Mineta." I tried to stay serious, but the image of the little weasel being chased around by Midnight was too hilarious not to burst out laughing.
"Don't worry, you two. We'll be tough on them but not too tough. We're going to leave some leeway for them to pass." She put her hands on both of our shoulders in reassurance.
"You better, or you all will have hell to pay." We both glared at her, to which she responded with a giggle.
"Shouldn't you be getting to the examination room with Recovery Girl?" She raised an eyebrow and smirked down at me while I puffed my cheeks and started getting out of her chair.
"Yeah... I really hate that I wasn't allowed to give my students a pep talk before their exams, but Aizawa had them so nervous for this exam that they were more busy studying that I didn't feel comfortable taking their time away from it. Especially when some of them were in dire need of studying. On the bright side, they all mentioned to me that they formed study groups. So I guess it's good that they are relying on each other."
I grabbed my bag and waved them goodbye while walking out of the office to meet with Recovery Girl. The little old lady was waiting in the nurse's office on her little chair. Her feet dangled as she lightly kicked them as I walked in. She then motioned for me to help her down, and we walked off to the examination room.
"You look really comfortable today." She said, noting my outfit. I had some white sneakers on with a mid-length a-line white skirt with a collared shirt underneath my green UCLA sweatshirt. I decided to keep my hair in a fishtail braid with a few hairs framing my face. My glasses sat on top of my head.
"I figured since it was exam day, I wasn't going to need to do a lot of work today." I shrugged and put my glasses on.
"I haven't seen your necklace until now. It's charming." My necklace? My hand went up to reach the silver chain with the small lopsided heart. I've had it for years, rarely do I ever take it off. Sometimes I forget I am even wearing it. Ironically, it was a gift from Aizawa back when we were kids. Despite being detached from him for so long, I still kind of had a piece of him with me.
"Thank you. I wear it all the time, actually."
"You should tell me where you got it. Maybe I'll buy one."
"I wish I could tell you, but I'm afraid I was never told." I smiled wholeheartedly at the little old lady.
We made it to the room, and I opened the door for her, and as she walked in ahead of me, she decided to comment, "Oh, I'm sure Aizawa remembers, I'll ask him." Sometimes I hate her for knowing everything. But hey, that's part of her being the heart of UA.
Soon after we got situated, a few of my students came in to watch their peers during their examination. Specifically, it was Midoriya and Uraraka that walked in along with Aoyama and Bakugo. I'm guessing they were paired off with each other and were going to be tested later. I sat next to Recovery Girl and leaned back in my seat, swiveling side to side as we watched the screen waiting for the exams to begin.
"You seem as anxious as the students, Ms. Montoya." Recovery Girl mentioned as the first match between Sato and Kirishima and Cementoss was about to begin.
"Well, I don't think it was right to change the practical on them, so I am a little nervous. I want them all to pass." I chewed on my bottom lip as I switched to tapping my foot instead.
"If we don't pass, Mr. Aizawa said we don't get to go to the training camp." Uraraka mentioned as she noticed that we were talking about the exam and the students, "I don't know if he was really serious, but it definitely got us wanting to make sure we passed more."
I grimaced, "I really hate how Aizawa adds more pressure on you guys, and he knows it, so it pisses me more off."
"Yes, I don't know why that man is so hard on his students. But I am sure that it is just a ruse." Recovery Girl did her best to reassure the student. "Now, let's watch your classmates."
One by one, each round of fights passed by, poor Kirishima and Sato were the first to fail the practical, which made all of us watching upset. The matches with Tsu and Tokoyami and Iida and Ojiro were nerve-wracking to watch but ended with all four of them winning and meeting back here to watch the rest of the class.
The current match that was about to start was between Todoroki and Momo and Aizawa. I had high hopes for the team, but both Aizawa and I noticed the shift in Momo's confidence after the Sports Festival. So it was hard to see if she was going to trust herself when making decisions in the practical exam. With Todoroki, my main concern was his inability to work with others and strategizing, but hopefully, the two actually work together and beat Aizawa. Lord knows that man isn't going to go easy on them. He lives for these moments where he can strike fear into his students. Not like I am expecting him to purposely fail them though, he's not THAT sadistic. I looked over at the students in the examination room and noticed the worried look on Ochako's face. She was getting more nervous as it got closer to her exam. I couldn't blame her. I haven't seen her and Aoyama really discuss a plan for how they will fight Thirteen. Midoriya was mumbling strategies to himself, oblivious to his friend's silent mental turmoil. "Ochako, sweetheart, why don't you come over here and watch the round with me?"
She slightly jumped, surprised at my sudden suggestion, but then shuffled her way over to me with a nervous smile.
"You okay? You seem like the nerves are eating away at you?" I swiveled to face her and placed my elbows on my knees and my chin on my hands as I looked up at her.
"Honestly? I am not okay, but I don't know how I am going to make a plan when my partner doesn't try to communicate with me and just focuses on how their suit looks." She looked glumly at her partner, who was still focusing on his reflection rather than the screen.
I looked at Aoyama, too, with my eyebrows scrunching together, trying to find the words to help her. "To give you some advice, you just have to smack some sense to them, but verbally, I'm not saying to smack Aoyama literally, but tell him upfront that he needed to take this exam seriously just like it was a real-life situation. Only then can you guys can collaborate. And don't worry about not having a plan at this current moment. It's always good to get used to thinking on the spot because you will rarely have time to plan before dealing with villains on the field."
She nodded with a slight pout, which reminded me how Midoriya would listen to me. I was about to continue speaking when Recovery Girl's voice spoke up, "It looks like Yaoyorozu and Todoroki aren't collaborating well, Todoroki got tied up, and she's running off."
Once she spoke up, we decided to keep the focus on the screen, Ochako quietly saying, "I'll take your advice, maybe I'll be able to make up some last-minute plan with Aoyama as we walk to our exam. Thank you, but I think I'll go back with Deku if you don't mind." I waved her off with a warm, reassuring smile as she walked back to her spot next to Midoriya.
As we watched the match, Recovery Girl and I kept making quiet remarks about the students and Aizawa. "I think Aizawa is going easy on them. I think he noticed that their plan shouldn't work if their timing is off." I noted.
"It looks like they figured out that Aizawa needs longer breaks between moments he uses his quirk after his injuries." Recovery Girl pointed, and I nodded in agreement. Eventually, the two students managed to capture Aizawa and won the match, and the students with us were filled with joy and relief, watching them win. I couldn't help but giggle a little. I feel like they were happier to see Aizawa get his ass beaten than just seeing their peers pass. "My, my, I guess that man is a big softie after all." Recovery Girl gleamed out loud and then smirked at me, lowering her voice again, "Not like I am surprised, I remember how he was in high school."
I decided to tease the grump and texted him a congratulations message, not really expecting a response.

You sure like to give your students handouts for someone who likes not to give handouts to his students. Thank you for not failing Momo and Todoroki. They really needed the win. Counselor Montoya approves! 👍🏻💕

Shut up. I wasn't going easy on them.

Yes, you were. It's okay to admit you care about them. I won't tell anyone and ruin your reputation. Scouts honor! 😇🤞🏻

"Who are you texting that is making you smiling and giggling so much?" Recovery Girl asked as she tried to look over my phone. Is it an old person thing to try and see people's phones? Torino did that, too, at the hospital.
"I'm just teasing Mr. Aizawa, and he's taking the bait," I said, not looking up from my phone reading his messages.
Grumpy Caterpillar 🐛🐱
I'm not the one doing the flattering.

I pouted at my phone and stuffed it into my skirt pocket. "He left me on read, how rude."
"Maybe he got tired of the teasing. You can be annoying at times. Now let's continue with the exams." The blunt old lady bumped my head with her cane lightly, or at least what she thought it was lightly.
"Ow, that cane should be registered as a weapon." I rubbed my head.
"Don't take advantage of the attention that man gives you. You're smarter than that to string someone along." She huffed protectively.
"I am not doing anything, just being friendly, that's all."
"You should try being less friendly unless you actually want to pursue anything with him. But considering your relationship with Vlad, I don't think that's happening."
"I'm teasing, not flirting. Plus, it's not like Aizawa to catch feelings."
"You can't catch feelings when you always had them, sweetheart." I looked at her with furrowed eyebrows, not really understanding where she was coming from. "For such a smart young lady, you seem to be oblivious when it comes to love. Unless you're just denying the inevitable."
"And what is the inevitable, Ms. I Know Everything?"
"That you and Shota never got over your feelings for one another. So the feelings are rising to the surface once more, but that isn't any of my business." Recovery Girl mentioned not taking her eyes off of the screen. "And you can't deny it, Gran Torino and I like to talk, you know? He told me about you two at the hospital. And don't think I didn't see you guys in my office looking like you wanted to smash your faces together. You're not kids anymore, be mature about this, Mai, please."
Be mature... Yeah, right... If it goes both ways, then he should be doing something about it, too, not just me. It can't all be me. "Let's just watch the rest of the exams and drop this subject. Not like anything could happen. I'm leaving at the end of the year."
"And you're with Vlad." Recovery Girl felt the need to remind me.
"Eh, I'm starting to think it might not be as serious as I thought," I say, remembering how awkward Vlad got when I misunderstood how close we were. I still enjoyed being around him, and I enjoyed the attention, but after that, it made me second guess myself a lot when it came to him. Like, if I couldn't even call him by his first name, how could he and I be close enough to sleep together? It didn't sit right with me. I think he felt it, too, because we weren't really intimate after the name debacle. Recovery Girl then turned to me to see the serious look on my face while I watched Ochako and Aoyama go through their exam, and then she put her hand on my head as a way to comfort me. Nothing was going on between Aizawa and me, just displaced feelings. We'll eventually get to be just friends without the feelings of what if's and what could be's getting in the way.

Chapter 18
Warnings: None, swf. Implied history of abuse.
Pairing: Shouta Aizawa x OC (Mai Montoya, Pro Hero Zion)
If you want to read of the events before this chapter here is the Master List 😊
I was sitting on the ground while Midoriya was struggling with the exercises I gave him to do. They weren't extensive exercises by any means. They were just exercises that allowed him to put less strain on his arms and focus on other body parts, so he learned to utilize other fighting strategies that didn't involve his arms.
"Are you sure this is helpful? Shouldn't I just be focusing on ways not to break my arms when I use them?" Midoriya breathed out, irritation laced in his soft voice.
"You wanted me to train you. This is what you get." I shrugged. He huffed. It's been a few weeks since we've been at this, and he doesn't seem to understand that I want him to realize not to copy All Might's fighting style and find his own because copying isn't helping him. He needed to connect better with his quirk and his body before coming into his own fighting style. "Look, just because you are All Might's successor doesn't mean you have to fight like him. Look at me for an example. I know you have done your research on me, so tell me what I usually do when I am fighting villains." I leaned back on my palms while I waited for the boy to respond.
"Well, it's like a mix between Gran Torino and Mr. Aizawa's way of fighting. But it heavily depends on who you are up against. And then you also try your best not to have to use your full power because you don't feel like it's fair to anyone if you use it. It's very rare when you do." He continued thinking a little more. "You are a quick strategizer. And use your surroundings to your advantage."
"Do you know why?" I raised an eyebrow at the hero to be. He simply shook his head. I patted the spot next to me on my left, "Sit down and take a break." The boy sat beside me, grabbed a bottle of water, and looked over to me, waiting for me to talk more. "So I learned to distribute the energy from my quirk throughout my body so that way, I wouldn't overexert myself in the same way you end up doing. That's what you need to learn how to do. Another problem I had was that I didn't have trust in my own control over my quirk." I paused for a moment, looking across the sun setting on the campus and then at my hands. "I mentioned this to Todoroki. He told me that you knew about his family issues." I looked over at him, and he nodded with a grim look on his freckled face. "Well, for him to get more comfortable with me, I told him about my upbringing, which I don't mention to most people."
My lips tightened as I started to reminisce about my childhood. "Did you have a father like Endeavor?"
I let out a dry laugh, "I don't know if I wish that I did over what I had, or thank the universe that I didn't have a father like that around." I looked over to Midoriya, the sunset giving a darker forestry look to his eyes. "It was my grandfather, actually. I never knew my father. The most my mom told me about him was that he was a foreign exchange student in her program when she studied abroad in Japan for two years before moving back to the U.S. for medical school."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't worry. I've never been curious about him. Especially since he doesn't know, I exist." I sighed and went back, looking at the view of the campus. "I'm kind of the opposite of you. I was born with a quirk to a quirkless family, including my father, from what my mom told me at least. And my family wasn't so keen on the idea of quirks either. My grandparents grew up during a time where quirks were still new. So when the first grandchild ended up having one, it was horrifying to them." Midoriya listened intently to me as I continued to speak about my family.
My mom was a little naive and got in bed with a fellow student, that was only in Japan for three months. After the fling ended, she realized she was pregnant. She wasn't against terminating the pregnancy by any means. But something in her told her not to. She always said it was because when you grew up with the parents she did, you look at bringing up a baby that will automatically need you and unconditionally love you as a blessing. She decided to go with the pregnancy and stay in Japan for the rest of her abroad program. She got a little help here and there from my uncle and godfather Dave and his wife and her twin brother. She really didn't want to deal with her parents the whole time. Eventually, when it came to medical school, she decided it would've been best to go back to California and have my grandparents help her out, as they insisted from the beginning.
She regretted that after they all found out about what my quirk could do.
My grandfather was in charge of engineering weapons for the military in the United States. Part of the government's concern was the potential for people with powerful quirks creating an uprising and the country not having a way to defend themselves. He was a talented biomechanical engineer but struggled to find something that would help solve this problem that didn't exist. So, seeing his five-year-old granddaughter accidentally take the quirk of a maid while she was playing with her, it was like a sign from the universe telling him that he would have the answer.
"You're not telling me that..." Midoriya looked mortified. I didn't even get to tell him, and he already knew what my grandfather did. "How was any of that allowed? What about your grandmother? Your mom?"
"My grandmother was the type to just let my grandfather do whatever he liked because it made him happy. And my mom was in medical school, so it was hard to pay attention to what my grandfather was doing. But once she caught on, we both ended up being held in captivity." I shrugged. "My mom doesn't forgive herself for putting so much trust in him. She also feels like I have something against her because of her mistake, but I never blamed her."
"So, he used his granddaughter. He used you to build quirk erasing weapons. How did you get out?"
"I can't remember, actually. I just remember passing out in a hospital bed in a dark room and then waking up in a large bed with my uncle Dave holding a tray of food and water waiting for me to wake up." I remembered the worried but relieved look in his ocean eyes. He almost dropped the tray once he saw me open my eyes and sitting up, "I remember him telling me to slow down when I was sitting up, and he patted my head, nearly crying, telling me that I was okay and safe. Then he gave me the biggest bear hug filled with so much desperation and love it made me cry. I was eight, but I was so small and fragile and barely knew how to speak. But I was able to understand what he meant in his embrace."
"Where was your mom?" He bit his cheek.
"In another room with Dave's wife. She wasn't in a good state either. She was actually more traumatized than me, to be very honest with you."
Her parents always mistreated my mom. But after what we went through, it was a level so low that she was shocked to see them stoop that low. She became distant with me, but at the same time overprotective and refused to leave my side. It was confusing growing up with her; she would be cold one minute and then loving the next. I never knew what to do to help. We stayed with Dave and his wife Pamela for a while. Pamela loved having me around. She actually gave me a lot of the love and nurturing I needed that I wasn't getting from my mother. She didn't have a quirk, so for me, it was easy to get close with her without the fear of taking something away from her. She helped me catch up to my age when it came to my development and helped me learn to be a kid. Same with Dave, he saw my early interest in science and let me hang around in his lab and 'help' him out. He also spoiled me with all sorts of toys. But once I got too comfortable, my mom thought it was best to move us. And so the cycle began, where whenever I got too comfortable, we moved. She said it was because my grandfather was trying to find us. But I never truly believed it. Not until we moved to Japan.
"I begged my mom to let me go to school, and I don't know how, but she had some connection to UA, so she got me in, much to her dismay. She was paranoid about my grandfather, and I didn't take it seriously. So, one day, he found us, and I almost got locked back in that dark room." I paused to let the whole story sink in. Once I got a hint that I could continue, I finished talking, "I didn't want to be a hero, but Nezu and my mom talked about our situation, and he knew that I needed to train my quirk. I was mortified at the idea of using it or being around people that would want me to use it, so the hero course was a nightmare for me. But just like you, I got thrust into my quirk without prior training, and I had to learn how to use it to the best of my ability not to hurt myself or others."
"Did you keep your quirk a secret from everyone too?"
"I did, but it was my choice. I was too stubborn to use it. But one day, this dumb kid with fluffy blue hair told me his friend had a quirk erasing quirk, and I felt comfortable enough to ask him how he used it, and then the rest was history." I laughed a little, my shoulders bouncing lightly.
"So Mr. Aizawa knew about your quirk first? That would explain the similar fighting styles..." Midoriya mumbled.
"Technically, it was my friend Oboro who knew first. I actually accidentally borrowed his quirk without knowing, and I had to explain to him that I didn't have his quirk much to his delight to have someone like him." I smiled, remembering the exciting crooked smile plastered on Oboro's face when he saw me with his quirk. "That's why while I am training you, we are focusing on your mind and body and how your quirk needs both."
He nodded and played with the water bottle in his hands, looking down slightly, "You've been through a lot, but you are so... gentle. It's heartbreaking that you had to live a life like that."
I motioned for him to pass me the extra bottle near him, "'Tis life. I just try to remind myself not to take my life too seriously, which is hard to do. But I appreciate the compliment. I don't meet many people describing me as gentle. Maybe stubborn, brash, and temperamental? But never gentle."
"All Might talks about you a lot. He says that you are extremely selfless but that you aren't a pushover. I guess that's your stubbornness. He says you're strong-willed and that you won't be easily swayed away from your beliefs. But he also mentioned that you could be incredibly kind and have this magnetic force that pulls people to feel safe with you. I can see that. I mean, you have only been our counselor for a semester, and the whole class trusts and adores you. You even have Class 1-B loving you too! So, I would say any negative thing said about you can be turned around to something that's actually good." He brightly smiled.
I couldn't help but ruffle his hair and pull him into a side hug, "I see all of that in you, Izuku. That's part of the reason why I think All Might chose right when he decided on having you take over One For All."
He held me tightly back, "You think you could tell me how you and All Might got so close? He practically brags about you like you were his kid."
"Maybe another time, it's getting late, and I'm sure your mom is expecting you home." Midoriya nodded and moved away to start getting ready to leave.
I walked him to the entrance gate of UA and bid him goodbye. I left out a heavy sigh. Sometimes it's good to talk about things you normally hideaway. I felt like a small weight lifted.
I began to make my way over to my apartment as I looked up in the purple clouds. They reminded me of the person I wish could be here with me. The one person who's embrace and words always made me believe that I was truly as Midoriya says.
"I miss you, Oboro. I hope you know that."

Chapter 17
Warnings: None, swf.
Pairing: Shouta Aizawa x OC (Mai Montoya, Pro Hero Zion)
If you want to read of the events before this chapter here is the Master List 😊
"I want you to train me to use One for All, especially since Gran Torino can't." Midoriya's words rang through like a gong.
"I don't have a teaching..."
"A teaching license, I know. But Gran Torino told me that it would be best if you trained me because of how much you struggled to control your own quirk. Plus, apparently, you can reverse any injuries I might get from training." The boy mumbled the last part. His freckles a bright hot pink as he bashfully interrupted me.
"He told you I could do that?" I raised my eyebrows and crossed my arms as he nodded. I let out an annoyed sigh, "I don't use it often because it drains me the most. It's pretty much Recovery Girl's quirk. I've had it since I was fifteen. But why she let me have it isn't that important."
"It's because she was afraid that one day you would be in a situation like All Might's, and she didn't want to worry about you not being able to heal." I am going to kill Gran Torino because of his big mouth.
"Is there anything else the old man mentioned to you before I continue to tell you no to training you?"
"No, not really. He said that I would have to pester until you said yes. And to tell you that you were the same way as me in high school, so it's only karma that I am in your life now." He let out a breathy nervous chuckle while shifting between feet and scratching his head.
My mouth was left slightly agape, "I was not! I can't believe he said that! I was a very responsible kid." I folded my arms and started mindlessly tapping my foot.
"You know your reaction doesn't help you, Ms. Montoya..."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. I am not training you. I already told All Might that I wasn't going to, and Gran Torino can't think I am going to change my mind because he said so." I turned my nose up, trying to stand my ground.
"Is that a bruise on your neck?" I opened my eyes and realized that Aizawa's capture weapon fell a little from where it covered my hickey.
I quickly went to cover it, "Nope. It's a burn from using my curling iron when I was getting ready for my date."
"Date? With who? Mr. Aizawa?" Midoriya gave a little mischievous smirk and crossed his arms in a cocky manner. This was a different light this child normally stood in.
"No, not Mr. Aizawa." I glared.
"Could've fooled me. You guys seemed really close earlier." His smirk grew once he thought of an idea. "If you train me, no one will know about your 'burn,' and I will never bring up your date to the class."
"You're not going to sucker me into training you by blackmailing."
"Okay, then I'll tell the class about your hickey and have Mina pester you about it when you get back on campus." He shrugged and gave off an innocent smile. This brat is evil. "And on a final note, my mom trusts you a lot, so who better person to have train me than someone my mom knows won't have me in danger?"
I can't believe I am going to let this boy blackmail me... I sighed and gave him a playful shrug while making a mental note not to underestimate the kid. "Fine, I'll do it if it means that it keeps your mom sane. BUT you have to do as I say, and we train before or after school hours on campus, so no one finds out that you are getting extra help from me. I can't risk getting in trouble training All Might's successor."
The boy gave me a gleeful grin with excitement in his eyes, "Thank you!"
He went for a hug, and I simply patted his soft forestry hair, still slightly annoyed, "Yeah, yeah, you're welcome. For a nice kid, you can sure be evil if you want to be."
"Gran Torino said it was the only way you would respond with a yes if I had something I can use against you. But I couldn't think of anything until I saw the hickey. Don't worry. I wasn't going to say anything anyway. Can I write all the information about your quirk in my notebook while we train?"
He pulled back from hugging me slightly to look at my face waiting for an answer, "All Might and Gran Torino hinted a few times that your quirk was a touchy subject for you, so I wanted to ask before."
"Let's train first, and I'll see what I think after the first few sessions, okay?" I pulled his hair back out of his face to see his emerald eyes.
He brightly smiled and nodded while pulling me in closer to show his gratitude more. "Thank you again. I am going to go back to the room with Todoroki and Iida, okay?" I simply grinned and nudged him that way as we started to walk back. Now how am I going to tell Toshinori that he got his wish? I can already hear him saying, "I told you that it was the best thing for you to train, Young Midoriya. I'm glad you came to your senses." Ugh...
_________
"I'm glad we came to an agreement about Young Midoriya. He was pleased to have you train him, Mai." My old mentor smiled brightly and pridefully as he went in for a sip of his tea.
"Yeah, did he mentioned that Gran Torino told him to blackmail me," I grumbled on the couch in the teacher's lounge while munching on some cookies.
"You needn't pout, sweetie. And yes, he did. He also mentioned the hickey." I nearly choked. I looked at Toshinori, mortified how all the wrong people know about the stupid hickey Vlad left. I was met with a raised eyebrow with the side of knowing sunken blue crystals staring at me. "I am not judging. I am actually glad to hear that you and Aizawa made amends and moved past what happened in high school..."
"He said it was Aizawa?!" I half shrieked half coughed because of the cookie still lodged in my mouth.
"Was it not Aizawa?" The skeleton of a man before me scrunched his eyebrows. He then leaned over to pat my back lightly to help with the coughing.
"No, it wasn't." I grabbed hold of his arm to let him know I was okay and wasn't choking anymore. "I went on a date with Vlad. We've been having a thing for a little while, so we decided actually to go on a date, and it almost went further, but then I had to go to the hospital. The hickey was just..."
"I got the memo. You don't need to explain any further. Please." He grumbled the 'please' part, probably hating this as much as I do.
"Can we just agree to never, and I mean NEVER speak of my love life or anything like that? I was already embarrassed enough when Aizawa and MIdoriya mentioned it at the hospital." I puffed my cheeks out and mumbled.
"Yeah, no, never again." And queue the awkward silence.
We were avoiding eye contact. Suddenly our cups of tea became the most interesting thing ever. "So, I heard that Nezu wanted to revamp the final exam... I hope he's not planning anything too difficult for the students."
"The teachers are supposed to have a meeting about it later today, so I'll keep you updated about what happens. Do you want any help with how to train Midoriya?"
I shook my head, "No, I have a few ideas up my sleeve. But thank you. If Nezu or even Aizawa, try and make the practical part of the exam harder than it already is, please make sure that the counselors and parents won't be happy." Toshinori simply just nodded.
Suddenly my phone kept buzzing in my pocket. I looked at it, and luckily it was just a video call from my mom and not any unwanted callers. I answered and immediately was met with, "Wow que milagro that the great Mai Montoya finally answered her mother's calls." There she was, the curly-haired doctor, Mia Emily Montoya.
"Hi, mom. Sorry I've been really busy with my students." I sighed as the woman on the screen did nothing but glare. "I'm with Toshi, see!" I moved my phone to show Toshinori to my mom, to which he reacted with a small blush and wave.
My mom's glare didn't subside. "Mai, I called you to see you, not Toshinori Yagi. Please move back to your face."
"That's a little harsh, not even a little hello to him." I gave a little playful pout, which made my mom more annoyed, "Okay, fine, here's my lovely face. What do you want to talk about?"
"Oh, nothing much. I recently got a new tv for the living room... What do you think I want to talk about, Mai. I want to know what has my one and only daughter has been doing since she doesn't respond to me ever."
"Well, I am at work right now."
"You don't look busy."
"That's not... you know what, nevermind. I have been counseling a class of 20 wonderful students that are aspiring to be pro heroes. I have also been sightseeing in the city since I haven't been here for years."
"Is that it?"
"Pretty much. Nothing too scandalous sorry."
"How are my boys? I miss Hizashi and Shouta." Why am I not surprised that she would ask about them?
"They actually work at the school as teachers. Hizashi teaches English." I gave a tight lip smile.
"And my pretty boy? What does he teach? He's always been so good with children." My mom's eyes lit up, just mentioning Aizawa. It was a little sickening.
"He's one of the homeroom teachers for the first year hero course students."
"So that means you guys work together? Since you counsel the hero course students?"
"Yes, I counsel his class specifically."
And with that, my mom had a Cheshire smile all over her face. "That's good to hear. You guys were always the pair. I don't know why you guys stopped being friends, but it's good to see that you are back together. Tell him I said hi and that I miss him, will you? I would love to hear from him. Is he still as handsome as he was when he was a boy?"
"I wouldn't know, mom. But I'll let him know that you still like him a lot. I'm sure it will brighten the grump's day."
"You're not blind, Mai. I am sure you can see if Shota was good looking or not. You just don't want to say he is." She pursed her lips, vexing me.
"That's not true. I just don't pay attention to people's looks, and he's a coworker, so it's unprofessional nonetheless. Right, Toshi?" I looked over to him and silently pleaded for him to agree and switch the subject when the topic of discussion walked in.
"Ms. Montoya, Sero taped up Mineta again, and I don't want to deal with it, so can you go tell him to take him down?" The man walked past us and went straight to the coffee machine.
"Was that my boy?" My mom perched up, "Shota, come over here. I want to see your face!" Aizawa stiffened and then hunched over, slowly turning to look at me with an annoyed face.
I gave him an innocent smile, "My mom called, and I wasn't doing anything, so I answered."
He blinked a few times before taking a deep breath and walking over to the couch, and leaned over my shoulder. He masks his annoyance with a charming grin, opposite to the creepy, sadistic smile he gives the students. "Hello, Dr. Montoya."
"Hello, dear! How are you? I hope my daughter hasn't been giving you a hard time?" Excuse me?
"No, she's been treating me well. If anything, I'm the one giving her a hard time. She's always working with the students because of me." He admitted, "But she and my students adore each other, so I don't think it's a big issue."
"I see you still have your hair in your face. It got so long! And now you have facial hair! You look like a grown man." My mom clicked her tongue.
"He is a grown man..." I pointed.
"I'm just saying he looks old. I remember him having such a bad case of a babyface. So it's odd to see him look his age." She defended. "You also don't look like you get a lot of sleep. You better be sleeping, sweetheart."
"I get enough sleep, but thank you for worrying." I couldn't help but scoff. Aizawa then glared at me, "Did I say something that amused you?"
"Yeah, you saying you get enough sleep. Mom, this man teaches, but he does patrols at night, so he takes naps in a sleeping bag at work. I'm normally the one that has to wake him up." Aizawa flicked my forehead, "Ow, what was that for?"
"No one likes a snitch." I stuck my tongue out at him, "Stop acting like a child. You're almost thirty." He shook his head and turned his attention to my phone, "Okay, maybe she does give me a hard time sometimes."
From the corner of my eye, I saw Toshinori looking at us with a warm grin. Both Toshinori and my mom began to chuckle after a few seconds of silence, "I'm glad you guys can get along so well." My mom finally said after catching a breath.
"This is them on a daily basis, Mia," Toshinori spoke up. "Your daughter tries to act like she's a mature adult, but once she's with her old friends, she reverts to her fifteen-year-old self. And then the rest of them start to do the same. It's contagious."
"That's cute." My mom smiled. "Well, I am going to let you go since you're at work. It was nice to talk a little finally. And Shota, you grew to be a very handsome man like I suspected. But please dress less like a homeless man."
"It's..." I moved my left hand in front of his face and shook my head, motioning him to stop before saying anything because I knew that it wouldn't stop my mom from calling him a hobo.
"I'll talk to you soon, baby. Please be careful. I don't want to see you getting hurt like Shota and your other coworker did when those villains came onto the school. I am grateful to see you are well, Shota sweetie."
Aizawa gave my mom a tight lip smile and put his right hand on my head, "Yeah, that's mostly due to Mai being on my ass 24/7 during my recovery. I have her to thank along with the doctors and Recovery Girl."
"Like I said, Mai. Always the pair. Toshinori, take care of our girl, okay? Don't let a thing happen to her while she's there! Bye te quiero, mi Sión."
"Love you too, mom." I breathed out a content sigh once I ended the call.
"And you kept complaining about not wanting to talk to your mom." Aizawa patted my head and went back to the coffee machine.
As he left me, it finally dawned on me what he came in here for in the first place, "Mr. Aizawa?"
"Yes, Mai?" His tone was mixed with a sing-song voice and an exasperated voice.
"SERO TAPED UP MINETA AND YOU JUST LEFT THE ROOM!" The six-foot-nothing man's eyes widened while Toshinori just awkwardly sipped his tea.
Aizawa then activated his quirk for some unknown reason, "Why are you using your quirk?" I tilted my head and scrunched my face in confusion.
"You turned on yours first!"
"No, I didn't."
"Yes, you did, Mai. Your eyes were blue, and your hair was starting to glow." Toshinori calmly said, still drinking his tea.
"Oh." I shrugged calmly, deactivating my quirk, "Oh well."
Aizawa looked astonished, "Oh well? You should have a better handle of your quirk by now!"
"Well, I can't help it if someone pisses me off and I let my control go. Anyhoo, I'll go help Mineta out since you won't." I got up from the couch, smoothed out my skirt, and started to make my way over to the class. Not without a final word to Aizawa, "I don't feel comfortable being the one that has to deal with Mineta all the time. He's always drooling and staring. You should be the one dealing with him."
"I figured one of these days you'll blow up on him the way you just did with me. But I guess not." Aizawa shrugged and sipped his coffee while heading over to his desk. Yeah, sure. Like that will stop the little pervert.

Hey so this his very important.
I live in Argentina. And it’s not very spreaded across media as much as Australia was and many other places (that don’t get as reblogged and shared and helped) but I really need y’all help. I need all of your support and donations.
There’s a lot of organizations trying to recolect medical supplies for the animals affected and trying to get some adopted or fostering and also rescuing.
We really need your help cause some assholes decided to start burning down the trees and forests in Córdoba mainly but a lot of other provinces too. Córdoba is one of the provinces affected by the fires, more than 3,500 hectares burned and thousands of dead species that cannot escape. Entre Ríos and Santa Fe and Catamarca are other of the provinces affected by these fires and situation caused. The media isn’t showing not even half of it as always.
There’s not a law that protects what’s happening from not occurring and there’s a go fund me to sign a petition to make the law to protect, it would mean the world to Argentina if you can help and sign.

Please share and reblog this and if you can please donate (look up the money currency difference and help) and spread it.

Here I’ll leave the info of all the organizations to donate to while as well too Green Peace is trying to get help. It will mean the world for me and the rest of people that live in Argentina and most importantly animals and nature.

Chapter 16
Warnings: Implied sexual harassment
Shouta Aizawa x OC (Mai Montoya, Pro Hero Zion)
If you want to read of the events before this chapter here is the Master List 😊
“Are you sure, Ms. Montoya? Is that allowed?” Todoroki spoke up, concerned if it will cause more problems.
“Yes, I am sure. There is no problem with me telling you a story.” I reassured them, “Now, like I said, even as a pro, there are times you cross the line when trying to do good.”
And with that, I told them.
It was the end of a week-long investigation and mission against a group of drug dealers and villains. Everyone in the agency was tired and finding ways to destress. On my way out of the building, I noticed one of the interns was being harassed by Gemini. She was a young girl at most seventeen, she had a quirk that wasn’t meant for combat, but her quirk allowed her to hack into any computer or technology we needed her to hack into. Seeing the way he harassed her, how small she was compared to him, her uncomfortable expression… it set me the wrong way because that’s how he made me feel. And to top it all off, he was trying his best to physically touch her skin to use his mind control quirk on her. To make her more compliant, as he would put it.
Anger rose within me. I couldn’t just let him get away with this. I couldn’t let him victimize her. So I put my gloved upon his neck and used my quirk on him to take his away. Afterward, I grabbed him by the neck and pulled him off of her, throwing him to the wall.
It wasn’t wrong what I did. It just went against my agency’s rules and contracts.
You can not use your quirk on colleagues.
It didn’t matter if he had done it numerous times. He was Gemini, the number one hero in the United States, and also my boss. So rules didn’t apply to him. But no matter my status, it did still applied to me.
“So yeah, I saved a girl from being a victim of sexual assault and harassment, but it ended up biting me in the ass because it was against my agency’s rules to use my quirk against a colleague. That’s why I got the license suspended for a year.”
“That’s not right. He was doing villainy. He’s not a true hero. He should’ve had his license revoked.” Todoroki spoke out quietly.
“It might be unfair, but it’s a lesson I learned the hard way that sometimes your anger can make you forget about the consequences of doing the right thing. Licensed or not. So I would highly suggest finding ways to learn how to think clearly when you are passionate, to avoid getting into trouble.” I paused for a moment to look at Iida, “And maybe we should have sessions about how you were more than willing to get rid of Stain because license or not, killing isn’t allowed. So don’t expect me not to be a little concerned about you intentionally wanting to murder a villain.” He looked shocked that I even suspected that he wanted to kill Stain, but then he thought for a moment to see that he never said that he just wanted Stain to be arrested or anything, just to be ridden of. I got up from the bed, “Alright, so I’ll leave you three to talk amongst yourselves and reflect on things. I’ll be speaking with the doctors that looked after you and will be calling your parents and caretakers with them.”
I left the boys to their own devices as I decided to text Aizawa what was happening. No response was given. He was probably busy patrolling. As I went to call parents, Iida’s mom was still in Hosu, so she could pick him up and take him home. Fuyumi was busy with her teaching job but assumed her father would take care of Shoto while he was in Hosu, so I had to leave Shoto under his dad’s watch again. Who broke my heart was Inko Midoriya, she was crying over the phone, and I couldn’t really do anything to stop it.
“I want him to follow his dreams, just seeing my baby get hurt over and over again is starting to really take a toll on me. And I can’t be there with him. I am very lucky to say that you actually do care about your students. Izuku speaks highly of you, so thank you for that. Please, stay with him over the weekend until I can make it to the hospital. I know it might seem like you’re favoriting him, but…”
I interrupted, “I have to stay with them until their parents arrive anyway. I don’t mind looking after your son. With his injuries, he’ll be here the longest, so if you can’t be here with him, I will gladly be here for you and keep you updated.”
There was a pause on the other line, “Thank you so much, Ms. Montoya.”
“It’s my job to care for them and help when I can. Don’t be afraid to ask anything of me. You won’t be overstepping.” I smiled, even though she couldn’t see me. I needed to let Midoriya know how this is affecting his poor sweet mom. “I know where you are coming from. My mom was a single mom and was always worried about me when I was in my hero training. So I will definitely advise your son to calm down and not push himself too much.”
“I don’t know how she did it.” The woman breathed out.
“Honestly? It was tough. She still worries about me.” I nervously laughed.
“Alright, well, thank you again. It’s nice to hear that you know where my worries stem from. I’ll let you go now to focus on the boys. Give them my support and let them all know. I hope they are all okay.”
“I will, Mrs. Midoriya. I’ll keep you updated on your son.” And the line was cut. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, and I was transported back into time, listening to my mom’s frantic yelling at Nezu after my licensing exam…
“I told you to put her in the general course, Nezu!” My mom frailed her arms, her onyx curls bouncing in response. “Now look, she almost died taking this stupid hero licensing exam!”
“She did really well using her quirk. It allowed her to pass. And look! She’s perfectly fine. Her costume is a little wet, but she’s fine.” Nezu responded.
“The other students nearly drowned her! She wasn’t moving for two whole minutes!” There was another pause followed by sobbing, “I can’t take this. I tried my best to keep her safe for fifteen years. You don’t understand the sacrifices I made… I know I might not be the best parent or that I might seem irrational. But I know I am right about one thing. Her quirk. It’s not something that will bring her happiness. She will always be targeted for it, and I don’t feel comfortable with her having a career where she showcases it.” It’s not something that will bring her happiness…
I couldn’t help but laugh. She wasn’t wrong.
I felt a handset itself on my left knee, and I turned to see Gran Torino, “That boy, is sure, a lot of trouble. It reminds me of Toshinori.”
“Yeah. It makes you better understand why he chose him. His mom is super worried about him, though. It reminds me a little about mine.” I looked down at my feet, a little ashamed of all the crap I give my mom despite everything.
“Eh, your mom was holding you back based on her own fears of not being able to control everything in her life. Otherwise, she wouldn’t show any disdain towards everything you do.” And then there’s Gran Torino reminding me why I don’t have a good relationship with her in the first place. “Still, I have to admit, you wouldn’t be the person you are without her raising you in the first place, so she is a decent mom.”
“She’s not all bad.” I looked over at the old man who decided to sit next to me.
“Oh yeah, making your daughter feel guilty for using her quirk to help people because dear old mom and dad were going to come and find you. Even though you made friends with a long list of pros that would protect you. And then when you left for the U.S., she was angry, and even now, with the lawsuit and losing your license, she blames you for not standing by and letting everything happen. She’s nicer to others than you because she sees you as a little girl that doesn’t know anything about the world. Forgetting everything you ever went through... She doesn’t see you as a person.”
“She didn’t have the best upbringing herself. Plus, she was twenty in college when she had me, so it's hard for someone to be a parent when they’re barely an adult.”
“Doesn’t give her a right to be completely entitled and treat you like you’re lesser. This is why I chose not to have kids. I didn’t want to turn out like that and screw up my kids.”
Ding. Ding. DING. DING. I looked down on my phone to two text messages.
Unknown Number
I really wish I had you in bed right now, poppy. You were always the perfect little….
I didn’t bother reading the rest and blocked the number. It’s like he has a hundred phones.
Aizawa 🐛🐱
Are you with the students already? Gran Torino said he’d call you. Just wanted to let you know that I’ll be on my way soon to the hospital. I got stuck dealing with some villains. Hope this didn’t ruin your date with Vlad.
What a dork mentioning my date.
“You okay, Mai?” Gran Torino asked, trying to peer over at my phone.
“Yeah, I just need a new number. But Eraserhead said he’s barely on his way. Patrol got a little hectic.”
“I talked with Nezu about that. Is Gemini really still harassing you? Didn't leaving the U.S. become the best thing for him?”
“Why were you talking about that with Nezu?” I gave him a crude look.
“You don’t call me often, so I have to find some way to check up on you.” He matched my expression, “You’re my favorite kid I ever taught. Remind me so much of Nana.”
I took a deep breath. Nana Shimura. All Might’s predecessor, his mentor, his mother figure. He didn’t talk much about her to me, only little comments here and there. But with Gran Torino, it was different. Ever since the first day I met him, he always found some way to say I was like her. Unfortunately, I was never able to meet her. Sometimes I wonder if she would like me…
“You still wear your hair like hers when you’re too lazily to do your hair, I see.”
I chuckled a little as the old man ran his hand through the dark waves that didn’t fall into my bun, “I wonder if she would’ve liked me.”
Gran Torino looked at me, wholeheartedly, “With no doubt in my mind. She would’ve adored you, my little starlight.”
Time went on as I waited for Aizawa to come to check on the boys. Gran Torino got to speak with Midoriya alone before leaving himself. In the meantime, I was just with the two other boys showing them different movies on my laptop and talking more about either the incident or whatever came into mind. They seemed to calm down after a while and were finally able to relax, which made me more relieved.
We were in the middle of watching a movie when Aizawa barged in with his capture weapon in his hand and goggles on his head. “Alright, catch me up.”
I peered from behind my laptop screen in between the Todoroki and Iida’s beds, dumbfounded at the sudden intrusion. The boys looked just as surprised I was. Aizawa just stared at me like he was waiting for me to say something…. OH, RIGHT, I AM THE ONE HE’S TALKING TO, DUH! “Oh, me, sorry.” I uncrossed my legs and handed my laptop to Todoroki and let him and Iida continue the movie without me.
I walked out of the room and guided Aizawa to the hallway, “Everyone is fine for the most part. You know how our students are. Budding into things they aren’t supposed to because they want to be heroes. They ran into the hero killer, and they ended up injured, but luckily they are alive, so that’s all that matters. The police said that they’d make up a story saying that Endeavor took care of Stain so that the students don’t get charged with anything.” I mainly said everything in English and barely above a whisper to avoid eavesdroppers. I had Aizawa lean down to my level, his hair lightly tickling my lips as I whispered into his ear.
He then turned to look me in the eye. His grey eyes were looking strained and slightly redder than on most days. His face was inches from mine. “And their injuries?”
“Midoriya the usual, broken arms and was stabbed, Todoroki was the least injured, and Iida was paralyzed by Stain’s quirk and injured his left arm to the point that it’s possible that without the proper care he might not be able to use it again, but his mom is going to pick him up tomorrow and move him to heal at home with a private doctor, so I don’t think it’s a full concern right now.” His eyes were bothering me, so I instinctively went for his utility belt to grab his eye drops and handed the bottle to him, “Sorry, your eyes look really dry right now.”
My hand lingered a little too long as he took long to grab the eye drops in his palm, “Thanks. Did you come right away?”
I shrugged, “I came as soon as Gran Torino called me.”
“Did it interrupt your date? I’m assuming no because you’re not dressed up.”
“Excuse me?” I raised my eyebrows at him. I knew he didn’t mean anything by it. I just liked seeing his stoic nature get flustered.
“I… I … I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant that you look like you were just lounging around at home.” He avoided eye contact with me and then proceeded to use it as an excuse to put in some eye drops.
“I know I was just pulling your leg. Now I wasn’t really interrupted or anything. The date was over by the time Gran Torino called.” I waved my hand at him to metaphorically brush off the date topic.
“Then explain the bruise on your neck.” He grumbled, leaning his head back.
“The what?” My eyes widened in horror. I’m going to kill Vlad. I ran to a hospital window to check my neck in the reflection. And the hobo was right. There was a dark spot right on the left side of my neck. More specifically, where I had a mole. I turned back to Aizawa, embarrassed and holding my neck, “Please tell me it wasn’t that noticeable…”
“If I noticed, I’m sure other people did too.”
“Shota!”
“What?”
“You’re not helping.” I moved my hair to go in and cover the blasted hickey Vlad left me. God, Gran Torino probably saw it… MY STUDENTS PROBABLY SAW IT…
Suddenly a rumble of laughter rang through my ears like smooth waves, “I’ve never seen you so embarrassed. You’re a grown woman. Calm down.” I couldn’t do anything but glare at him, “You look like an angry tomato, come here.” He put his eye drops back in their spot in his belt and then reached a hand out for me. I reluctantly took it, and he pulled me in.
I was flushed against him and felt everything. His breath fanning me, his heart beating in between soft motions or rapid-fire speed, his fingers tight around one hand while the other hand landed on the small of my back, setting ablaze to the spot. His eyes were soft and warm… just like in high school… god, what is wrong with me? I was just on a date with Vlad and having a really, really, good time with him. But now here I am near Aizawa, and suddenly all the feelings Vlad gave me, I feel it times a thousand with the sweet nothing Aizawa is giving me. This is bad. Really, really bad.
Suddenly, I felt a weighted material falling along my shoulders. It was Aizawa’s capture weapon being wrapped around my neck, “Normally, I don’t like wrapping people I care about in this thing because it’s for solely work and to restrain villains. But I don’t have a scarf on me, so it will make due for now to save you some more embarrassment.”
Care about… My mind decided to wander to the one question that haunted me for years. “Shota…”
“Hmm?”
“You don’t have to answer me or anything. But there’s a question that I always wanted to ask you.” I held the weapon in my hand, feeling the material contrast with my skin, and looked mindlessly at the ground, “What made you not want to talk to me for so long? I tried for a year after I left, and you never responded. I remembered five years ago, you said you didn’t want to be a burden, but I feel like it wasn’t that… Because you said you cared about me then, and you're saying that now. And if you did, it wouldn’t have mattered if you felt like a burden because you would’ve still tried, you know? If anything… I always felt like I was the burden. So, I just wanted to know the real reason.” My eyes were slightly stinging because I wanted to avoid crying. This shit with Gemini is really hitting me. He always made sure that I was nothing and just a burden. Same with my mom, too, I guess. So, part of me always felt that I fucked things up with Aizawa like I was just a pity party…
I felt the weapon get tugged a little, and I was met with the warm grey eyes again, this time with determination and desperation. He lightly placed his hands on either side of my face, “You have never once been a burden to me, Mai. I am so sorry if I ever made you feel like that. The reason for our friendship being broken for so long was my cowardly self’s fault. Not yours. If I knew you felt like that, I would’ve done my best to be a better person for you than I was.” He wiped a tear away from my cheek, “You’re an amazing person. I shouldn’t have ever let you go. I consider myself lucky to have you back in my life.”
I couldn’t help the feeling that was coursing through me. I never wanted to kiss someone as much as I want to kiss the man in front of me… Maybe it was just my emotions getting the best of me? I'm pretty sure he felt the same way because I caught his eyes, switching their attention to my lips before back to my eyes. I looked at him with anticipation. But we both knew nothing was going to happen again. It would’ve been wrong.
I decided I would be the one to break the contact. I delicately took his hands in mine and took them off of my face, “I have to go back in there with the students. Gran Torino is with Midoriya right now. He’ll go more into detail with you about tonight.”
“Mai… I really want...” He switched our hands so that he would be the one caging mine.
“Ms. Montoya?” We were both interrupted by one of our students. Our eyes followed the voice, and it was Midoriya with Gran Torino following behind them.
Aizawa and I immediately dropped our hands, “Yes, Midoriya?”
“Sorry if I interrupted anything. Just Gran Torino and I got to talking, and I have some things I wanted to talk to you about.” Midoriya was blushing as if he caught two lovers in bed or something. On the other hand, Gran Torino had a more knowing look as his eyes shifted between the two of us.
“Oh no, it’s okay, Midoriya. Come on, we can talk on the way to the cafeteria, and we can get something before it closes.” I motioned the boy over to me and just gave Aizawa an apologetic look as he walked over to talk with Gran Torino. To be very honest, though, I am pretty relieved for the interruption. I wasn’t really prepared to hear anything that Aizawa was going to say. We love avoiding the inevitable, don’t we, Mai?

If you want to read the events before this chapter here is the Master List 😊
I wish I could say that was the only call I got from Gemini. But then I would be lying, and I hate lying. He started harassing me during random hours of the day; I felt dirty and disgusted with myself that I could let him get to me. Luckily, Nezu said that he’d get me a new number soon, so hopefully, that will be the end of it.
“Ashido, be professional and respectful. It’s ‘Yes, sir.’ I hope you don’t act like that during your internship,” Aizawa chastised poor Mina because she was happily cheering about the work-study about to start.
“Yes, sir.” She pouted and muttered in response.
I smiled and spoke up, “Remember now, everyone, I will be in contact with all the pros and agencies you are working with, so I will be aware of any problems or concerns that occur during the week. I will also be on-call anytime you need me. I will also be letting Eraserhead know about any concerns from your internships so we could work on different learning plans for when you come back.”
All of the students nodded and gave understanding smiles, well, except for grumpy Bakugo and stoic Todoroki, but it’s to be expected. The only other person who wasn’t as excited as everyone else was Iida, but I was already well aware of why. I didn’t have time to talk to Aizawa about Iida’s decision and how we should’ve encouraged him to take another hero. Luckily Manual will be able to keep Iida on track with his internship. I trust the hero is capable of doing that.
We bid our goodbyes to our students and wished them luck on their internships. Aizawa let out a sigh, “Finally, will have some peace and quiet.”
I turned to my left and looked up at him, “Hmm? Oh, yeah, I guess.” I lightly chuckled.
“You think they’re going to get into problems while they’re gone?”
“Is it even a question? I literally had Vlad set up a date on the last day before they all come back just to avoid having any interruptions.”
“Hmmm.” He started walking away towards the exit of the station, leaving me to follow behind. “So you and him are really something? I kind of expected it, but it feels off. I don’t know why.”
“Probably because of the size difference. The man is built like a tank while I’m just small and slightly tubby since I haven’t been doing hero work in a while.” I shrugged.
“I would say more because of the personalities, but I can’t really say anything. I hang out with Mic.” He took a small pause, “You seem physically fine to me. You were always a little curvier than most people.” I raised my eyebrow at him, “It’s an observation I’ve made knowing you. I wasn’t trying to be inappropriate.”
I squinted my eyes at him, suspiciously, “Right… Anyhoo, Vlad, and I are getting along well, just been busy with the students. Luckily after the summer, Lily takes over Class 1-B again so that I won’t be as busy. Not that I didn’t mind helping her out.”
“You didn’t need to be with Vlad dropping off his students here?” Aizawa looked down at me as we continued walking.
I shook my head, “He said that it was fine that I didn’t. He also made a comment about you needing the extra help, but I defended our class, and you so don’t worry about it.”
“I wasn’t, but thanks, I guess.” His response was short and a little tensed as if he was uncomfortable.
“Shota, are you okay?” I went to grab his arm to pull him in my direction to see his face.
He just gave me a confused and slightly offended expression, “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”
Face it, you guys still have feelings for each other…
I always felt you guys were the closest thing to soulmates…
I shook my head and let go of his arm as Mic’s words rang through my memory, “Nothing, just felt that something was off.”
“Well, I am fine. You got nothing to worry about.” Somehow I felt it was a lie, but I have no right to pry or anything, so I neglected to ask.
The week went by smoothly for the most part, which made me nervous. It’s just not in my students' nature to be so well behaved or have nothing happen. I had my fingers nervously tapping on the dinner table, anxiously waiting for some sort of update from one of my students. Not even Gran Torino was sending me anything about Midoriya, and I needed to update Toshinori about it. Iida and Manual said everything was running smoothly, which put me at some ease, but I still didn’t trust it. I mean, Iida is working in Hosu, where the Hero Killer Stain attacked his brother. He can’t just be okay… especially when seeing how so many people liked his ideologies.
I felt a large hand clasp over mine, and I looked up, meeting the ruby colored eyes, “You know if no one is contacting you is because everything is okay. It’s the last day. You literally have nothing to worry about, sweetheart.” Vlad held my hand and rubbed his thumb on the back of mine, reassuring me that everything was okay.
“I know, I just can’t help it.” I returned his affection by grabbing both of his hands and squeezed them before going back to eating. Trying to make sure to keep my mind off work and focus on the man before me.
After some light talking and dessert, Vlad decided to walk me home. It felt pretty nice not to worry over my kids, the city light cascading in the sky, giving a romantic feel to the night. It would fit for it, but I couldn’t get into the romantic mood for some reason. My mind was still subconsciously thinking about the students, like this sixth sense telling me I should check in on everyone.
“Mai?” Vlad tightened his grip around my shoulder, “You okay? You seem to be spacing out again.”
I chuckled, “Sorry, I just got lost in thought while looking around the city.” I sank into his side, “It’s really nice out tonight.”
Vlad hummed as we continued to walk back to my place. Once we made it to my door, it was like traveling back to when we were outside of Aizawa’s. The blood-red eyes twinkling, the closeness, the shallow breaths, the only difference this time was he leaned in for a kiss on my lips instead of my cheek like last time. His lips on mine tingled, but I couldn’t tell if it was because of the feeling of being kissed or because of the feeling of having Vlad kissing me. Either way, I returned it because I was tempted to feel more of that tingling feeling. I couldn’t tell how long we were connected like this, but eventually, Vlad broke away to catch a breath. He and I were breathless and staring at each other, dreaminess clouding his eyes, my eyelids fluttering between closing and opening.
I gulped and awkwardly looked between his eyes and his lips, “Do you want to come inside?” I met with a smile and was immediately pulled into an embrace as I opened the door.
We didn’t even bother to turn the lights on. We just stumbled into my room as we kissed and roamed our hands all over each other. Clothing was slowly left behind before we even made it to my bedroom door. It was quick and passionate. Almost animalistic.
Vlad paused to look at me if only to see what he was seeing. I must’ve looked like a mess right now. He laid me down slowly as he hovered me making his way from my lips to my neck. I closed my eyes instinctively, enjoying the feeling of having someone worshipping my body.
I was at least enjoying it while it lasted. By the time Vlad got any chance to go lower, my phone had rung. He briefly paused and looked up at me, “Do you want me to stop so you can get that?”
I groaned, “No, it’s probably not important. They could just leave me a message.” My mind went straight into thinking it was Gemini calling to bother me again, but I immediately pushed past it because I didn’t want him ruining the mood. Vlad continued kissing down my stomach when my phone rang out again… I swear I thought I had it on silent this whole date. I gently moved him aside and went over to grab my phone from the floor of my room. The name blasted on my phone made my heart drop in fear.
Incoming call from Gran Torino.
Shit.
I moved back to the bed and mouthed a sorry to Vlad as I answered the phone, “Hello?”
“Where were you? I called, and you didn’t answer!” The grumpy older man frantically chastised me.
I looked over my shoulder awkwardly, not really wanting to say what I was doing, “I was busy with something. I couldn’t really grab my phone right away.” There was no response. I can just feel the impatience soothing in the tiny man. “Can you just tell me what happened with my student already?”
“Students. Don’t worry, the three boys are fine. I also called Eraser to come check in on them before I called you. They had a run-in with the Hero Killer Stain.” My hand gripped my phone tighter. God, I knew there was a reason why I was so worried. “They’re in the Hosu hospital. I think Eraser might be on his way over right now, so I would head over here too.”
“Right, I’ll get there as soon as I can. I have to check the train schedule.” Gran Torino said goodbye and hung up the phone. I immediately rubbed my face in frustration and sudden fatigue. “I have to go to Hosu. Three of my students got injured, so I have to go on behalf of their parents.”
Vlad went to sit next to me and rubbed my back, “That’s fine. Do you need someone to go with you?”
I got up to quickly change into some comfortable running pants and a grey sweatshirt. Making a note to grab my glasses before running blindly into the city. “No, Gran Torino is there, meaning probably the other two pros that took in the other students are there too. Plus, Eraserhead was also notified.” I smiled at him while pulling my hair back, quickly moving over to kiss him, “I’m sorry that our date cut short.”
Vlad caressed my arm and gave me the same dreamy look in his eyes, “It wasn’t the date that was cut short. But you do not need to apologize.”
I gave an exaggerated annoyed face as a joke, “Stop being so understanding. It makes me feel bad for leaving.”
He leaned in for another kiss, “Sorry, can’t help it. You might want to fix your makeup before going over to Hosu though, I kind of ruined it.” He chuckled sheepishly as he got up from my bed and started walking over to grab his clothes. “You could always make it up to me later.” He gave a sneaky smirk that I couldn’t help but laugh at. It was too cute.
I rushed my way to the hospital entrance and was met with Gran Torino and Manual, along with a person with a dog quirk. He raised his hand to introduce himself, “Hello. You must be Ms. Montoya, Gran Torino, and Manual mentioned you would be meeting us. I am Chief Tsuragamae of the Hosu Police Department.”
“Chief? It is nice to meet you, sir, but if you don’t mind me asking, why are you here? Shouldn’t it just be a normal officer meeting with the students?” I swear, if my students got into some kind of trouble on purpose, I would bite their heads off.
“Ah yes, I told Gran Torino to not mention anything over the phone. Here let’s get you up to speed on the way to the students.” He hovered his hand over the small of my back and guided me to the hospital room.
Gran Torino trotted along by my right and poked me with his cane, “You could’ve worn something more professional, your meeting the chief.”
“Well, if you mentioned something, I would’ve taken more liberty to take my time getting ready even though my students are in the hospital,” I said through my teeth.
“Don’t worry, miss. It just shows your dedication to your students. I am very sorry to have bothered you.” The chief interjected.
“So, what happened? How did they come into contact with Stain?” I asked the men surrounding me.
“It was my fault, really. Iida and I were around the area, so Iida intervened to help the pro hero Native.” Manual confessed.
“Then Midoriya and I also ended up in the area, and he heard that his friend needed help, despite telling him not to go because Nomus broke out in the city, so we needed all hands on deck for it.” Gran Torino continued.
“And then the same with Shoto Todoroki, he went to assist the two boys as well. And as you may well know, doing hero work without permission or a license is considered vigilante work.” The chief started.
“And vigilante work is illegal…” I groaned and facepalmed. “I promise you, Chief Tsuragamae, Eraserhead, and I have instilled in our students that they must follow orders from their internship teachers and that going out of bounds is wrong and could get them in serious trouble. So this was just probably a huge misunderstanding.” We made it to the door of the room the boys were held in, and the chief opened it. Immediately my students zeroed in on me with a knowing look that they were in trouble. “I am going to try and be calm but stern with you three because you are injured, and I feel bad. But just know I am fuming.”
The chief patted my shoulder before speaking with the boys. Luckily none of them were in real trouble. The chief didn’t want it to go out that the students were the ones fighting Stain for all of the controversies it will bring. So instead, he decided to give all the credit to Endeavor, much to mine and Todoroki’s dislike, but it’s better than having my three students in prison for vigilante work. Gran Torino and Manual’s teaching licenses were suspended, so they couldn’t be allowed to take on any students for a while. As for the boys, they will have to stay in the hospital for a while until they fully heal, and any punishment that the school, a.k.a Aizawa and I want to give them, will be waiting for them when they come back to school. Once the pros and the chief left, they told me to go ahead and talk with the boys privately without them. All the boys looked glum.
“Okay, maybe I won’t lecture you after all. I just want you to be honest with me on how this all happened, and we’ll call it a day.” I went to sit down next to Iida, and Todoroki and Midoriya followed.
“I let my anger get the best of me. I went to Hosu with the intent to get rid of Stain… I shouldn’t have had that as my intention if I want to be a hero like my brother.” Iida looked down at his broken arm, “Now I might have the chance to never have the ability in my arm again. And to top it all off, I got my peers into trouble. What kind of class president does that?”
I sighed and put my hand on his head, and looked at the other boys. Maybe I should probably mention what led to my suspension to them. “Alright, I can’t be self-righteous and tell you guys that it's wrong and you should never do what you did. Which you shouldn’t since you have no license, but sometimes, there are times where you might cross the line and will have consequences despite having a license to do your job.”
The boys looked at me confused; Midoriya spoke up, “What are you talking about, Ms. Montoya?”
“I think I should tell you three about what I did to lose my license.” I gave them a warm, reassuring smile.
