The Yagasuri Panel's Meaning + Gojohime and Sprituality
Hello, everybody! I know I've been gone for the past two years but I'm finally back. With the release of the latest chapter I've been incredibly devastated but it still won't stop me from being delusional! Since there has been a lot of talk surrounding Gojo and Buddha, I've been doing some research, and I think I found something that potentially draws us closer to the meaning of the famous Yagasuri panel :)
CHAPTER 236 SPOILERS AHEAD
As a quick refresher, the pattern displayed in the background of Gojo and Utahime is a traditional Japanese pattern called yagasuri. According to the sources I found on the internet, the arrows are related to archery, and thus were a common pattern on male clothing. The design represents the unwavering nature of an arrow because once it is shot, it will never return. Brides in the Edo period wore the pattern as a symbol of good luck, ensuring that they will not have to return to their families. Additionally, in Buddhism, the arrows embody the fight against evil.
There are a few interesting things I'd like to point out about the information above. For one, from all the pictures I've seen, the arrows in the yagasuri pattern are typically pointed downward, whereas in the cover, they are pointed from Gojo toward Utahime. Two, the pattern's relation to Buddhism and Buddha. Since there are many parallels to Gojo and Buddha, I went on a quest to research more about the story of Buddha (Prince Siddhartha) out of my own curiosity. What's fascinating is that supposedly in his early life, he won his wife, Princess Yasodhara, in an archery contest. They were married at an early age and had a newborn son when Prince Siddhartha was 29. Unfortunately, he leaves his family behind to embark on a journey toward enlightenment.
Aren't these details crazy?
Buddha's wife was a princess. Utahime means song princess/diva/songstress.
Both couples share a connection with archery/arrows.
Gojo is currently 29 years old in the manga and is theorized to reach enlightenment soon (assuming he truly is following the path of Buddha).
BUT THERE IS MORE.
Apparently, Yasodhara has been Buddha's wife for many lifetimes. While there are numerous stories of the two's history in their past lives, the one I'd like to bring attention to is from The Collective Sutra of the Buddha's Past Acts. The text recounts the first time Prince Siddhartha comes into contact with Yasodhara in a previous life as a Brahmin (Hindu priest) by the name of Sumedha, while she was a woman named Sumidha. As he waits for Buddha Dipankara to arrive to the city of Paduma, Sumedha decides to buy flowers as an offering. He then discovers that the king bought all the flowers as his own offering to the Buddha, much to his dismay. But in the corner of his eye, he spots a beautiful young girl with 7 lotuses in her hands and offers to buy one from her. The girl, Sumidha, vows to give 5 of her lotuses to him in exchange for being his wife in all of their next lives. In another version, Sumedha and Sumidha went to a city where Buddha Dipankara was expected to visit. He then asks her for one of her flowers to throw as an offering to the Buddha. She then asks him to throw another one in her behalf. Buddha Dipankara summons the two and reveals that they will remain connected for many lifetimes and help each other attain enlightenment.
In the latest chapter, we see a panel of lotuses. From what is visible, there are 7 flowers. 7 flowers? 7. Flowers. I also think it's a funny coincidence how Sumidha promises to give Sumedha 5 flowers due to the fact that we associate Gojo with the number 5 because of the kanji in his name.
Just like Prince Siddhartha and Princess Yasodhara, I believe Gojo and Utahime are connected by fate. In the manga, whenever Utahime appears, it is almost always in relation to Gojo. They are made to contrast each other in almost everything besides motivations. Their color palettes, the schools they teach at, their values, and positioning in the jujutsu hierarchy. These are not coincidences.
And yet, despite all these differences, there seems to be a mutual level of trust between the two of them that transcends their usual bickering dynamic. Utahime has no obligation to help Gojo, but she does anyway. She CHOOSES to help him because she understands they share a common goal: protecting and nurturing the students. On Gojo's side, he CHOOSES to request a helping hand from Utahime first. Out of all people, he wanted to reveal his suspicions to her first. While Utahime provides assistance when she can, Gojo looks out for her when he can.
He claims that it is a pain to look out for the weak, but he continues to protect her. Gojo and Utahime put their lives at risk helping each other because they TRUST each other.
If my theory is true and it turns out that they are connected by fate, it would explain the unusual direction of the yagasuri in chapter 34. No matter how many lifetimes have passed, the soul of Gojo will always return to Utahime, just like how Sumedha promised Sumidha that he will marry her in every life. And the soul of Utahime will remain assisting him toward the journey of enlightenment.
I'm not saying they're married or anything but their relationship honestly parallels Prince Siddhartha and Princess Yasodhara so well. Although both of their narratives appear to culminate in the man's quest for enlightenment, they nonetheless serve as compelling illustrations of the power of a relationship founded on mutual trust.
___________
I might add on to this post later on if I feel like I missed something, but let me know what you think! :D These reaches are my specialty so be sure to take it with a grain of salt and don't take it too seriously. It's all in great fun :3

Gojo and Utahimeās birth flowers + theory
this contains spoilers
i saw this post on Twitter about how a jujutsu kaisen characterās birthday can be used to determine what will happen to them by using the language of the flowers. for instance, makiās birthday is 1/20, and her birth flower is the calendula. this flower means parting sorrow. it suggests that mai and makiās parting was decided from the start. i wanted to see what flowers utahime and gojo have.
i have bad news for gojo LOLā¦
born on december 7, gojoās birth flower is the cyclamen. the flower can have multiple meanings. it can mean timid hope, shyness, resignation and goodbye.
i was praying gojo would have a flower that would mean peace and happiness, but i guess it would be too much to ask for š
now, goodbye can mean a lot of things. does being sealed in the box count as goodbye? or does it suggest that he will die?
resignation, although still bad, is a more comforting meaning, in my opinion. it makes sense in his case because the students will grow stronger and soon enough, he will no longer be the strongest sorcerer alive. he will have to step down from that title. unless something happens to him that strips him of that title (loss of his six eyes).
fortunately for you guys, utahimeās flower is a little more promising. her birthday is february 18th, which means her birth flower is the dandelion. it can mean loveās oracle, oracle, faithfulness, or happiness.
a common theme you can see in her flower is oracle. according to the dictionary definition of oracle, it can be defined as āa priest or priestess acting as a medium through whom advice or prophecy was sought from the gods in classical antiquity.ā
UGH YK WHATS SO COOL. i touched upon this in my other post, but iāll give a quick run down of it. so basically utahime wears miko attire. miko are japanese priestesses that were once thought to be sorcerers back in the old days. they could supposedly act as a medium for the gods and communicate their messages through possession. they get into a trance by dancing, chanting, singing, etc. akutami says utahime is great at singing and itās a huge part of her technique. also, her name iori can be short for ioriten. ioriten, or the part alternation mark, is used in Japanese songwriting to denote the start of a song or the beginning of an instrumentalistās or vocalistās part. it was used a long time ago, and it is not used as often today. from these little details, we can sort of piece together her technique. ć½ļø
by singing or chanting, she can become possessed by a god.
will the god give her powers? will she be able to control herself while possessed?
where does the oracle part come into play in her technique? how might that help her in battle? in the story?
what if she lost control and got her scar because of her technique?
how will the part alternation mark play a role in her technique?
I REFUSE TO BELIEVE HER TECHNIQUE IS WEAK.
āā
sorry if this is brief, i wrote this before going to bed. if you have any questions, ill be happy to answer them or elaborate further.

Gege will never give Gojo a romantic interest, he hates him that much, unfortunately
LOLLLLL this goes really off-topic so I apologize in advance
I just find it funny because I heard that Akutami acts exactly like Gojo. Maybe it's a form of self-hatred.Ā I don't see them giving Gojo a happy ending, but it's fun to imagine and fantasize isn't it?Ā I just want to see him happy.Ā I feel like he likes to hide behind this cheerful facade, but deep inside he's really lonely and exhausted.Ā He can't address these subconscious emotions because he has to be strong.Ā If he shows that he has a weakness, then it will be used against him. That's why I believe pseudo-Geto chose to stay in the shadows until the right moment.Ā The shock of Gojo seeing his best friend again left him vulnerable and easier to seal.
I see what you're getting at.Ā It's not realistic to expect.Ā Hell, I think the fandom will have mixed reactions about Gojo having a romantic interest. You know there's always going to be one side that argues that shounen shouldn't have romance because it should strictly be focused on action.Ā I've seen it before in the Attack on Titan fandom.Ā Those fans that think Eren is a giga Chad who only desires to see the blood of the innocent splatter beneath his feet.Ā There are definitely some people in the fandom that view Gojo the same.Ā A powerful man whose character would be tarnished if he displayed any sort of romantic affection toward anyone.Ā I think they view it as a sign of weakness that destroys their perception of a Gojo that never lets anything get to him.Ā I know that some people just want to see cool fights or a complex and developed plot, but they shouldn't ignore the existence of the theme of love in Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan.Ā In chapter 0, when Yuta tells Gojo that he believes he is the one who cursed Rika, Gojo responds with something along the lines of, "I believe that love manifests the most curses."Ā He most likely came to this conclusion through his own experiences and observations.Ā Itās also reiterated a lot in the series.Ā Tojiās love for his family, Makiās love for Mai, Yutaās love for Rika, Mechamaruās love for his friends/Miwa.Ā I wonāt dive too deep but you get it.Ā Ā
I have a theory that since Gojo was the one who said that love manifests the most curses, his character will also apply to this statement.Ā So basically, what Iām trying to say is that even if Akutami doesnāt plan on giving Gojo a love interest, his character will still be used to illustrate a form of love (parental love, platonic love, etc.).Ā
----
Gojohime is the most comforting ship IDC YOU CAN TALK TO A WALL!Ā The other ships are so angsty, I am not mentally well enough to be invested in them LOLL.Ā I donāt know of gjhm shippers are the most mentally stable or mentally insane.Ā We canonically have only happy interactions between the two so that keeps us content and distracted from the bullshit thatās going on in the series right now, but at the same time, we have to live off of crumbs.Ā IDK YGS TELL ME...

Hey again. Gojohime can be canon... I think Gege has left bread crumbs. He may not formalize the couple, but he has definitely put a lot of effort into the little details. I've been submerged in AO3 for several days (lots of beautiful and sexy gojohime fics). If you're going to write a fic, please share it :D Also, can you develop your headcanon about the "you're weak" thing? I'm so curious. I always write to you here, I think there are PM, but I don't want to be rude haha Regards
Sorry for the late response! I started school on the 16th and I'm already bombarded with work LOLšš
BTW DONāT BE AFRAID TO PM ME ITāS NOT RUDE AT ALL!
There's a part of me that's convinced that gojohime will be canon. I know it's pretty unrealistic to expect because shounens don't focus on romance. I don't know why but shounen romance is the best romance LOLLL I think it's much more interesting when there's romance in a series that's not mainly about it. It really gives the audience a lot of room to imagine what goes on behind the scenes.
But there's also a part of me that denies this. It would be so cool to have those two be canon, but I don't think it's going to end well for Gojo. In order for there to be progress, he needs to be gone. That's why he's sealed right now. He is simply too strong for even Kenjaku to deal with. It's heartbreaking to think about, but in the end, it'll either be Gojo standing all alone, or everyone else standing without Gojo. Akutami has no mercy :(
At the same time, there are such intricate little details about Gojo and Utahime that I can't help but wonder where Akutami's going with all of this. Of course, I could just be a delusional fan that likes overanalyzing every useless detail. That's always a possibility...
I hate dealing with antis even though I'm also an ichihime, eremika, and sasusaku shipper šš
Even if they can't be together forever, I hope we get more gojohime moments in the manga :D
As for the fanfics, I'm really considering it. I'd love to write on ao3, but I'm afraid my schedule won't permit it. I actually have a draft on ao3 that I wrote over the summer. It was essentially gonna be a collection of gojohime moments--from their first encounter and all the way up to present day. I wanted to capture Gojo slowly realizing, "Shit, I really like her."
UGHHH I HAVE A BUNCH OF IDEAS IN MY NOTES APP THAT I MAY NEVER BE ABLE TO FULFILL </3
Lastly, I completely forgot what the headcanon was.Ā Iāll have to wait until it comes back to me.Ā I think Iāll write about it in my fanfic.Ā If I manage to remember it, Iāll let you guys have a sneak peek :3
I have a Toji and Mamaguro headcanon/one shot.Ā Let me know if anyone is interested hehe...

OMG thank u so much :3 I love how you analyze everything and understand the characters. There are no gojohime haters, only envious ones haha I thought Utahime could've studied in Tokyo cause her closeness to Gojo and Shoko (maybe the Goodwill Event made them meet and then they became close?), but what you say about her studying in Kyoto makes sense. I hadn't thought of Mei Mei working for Gakuganji. I need glasses!! By the way, I loved your theories about the Utahime's CT.
aw shucks, you are too kind šā
Donāt compliment me too much, my ego canāt handle it!!!!! š©
To be honest, I donāt think I have a solid grasp of a single character in the series. There are tons of panels I canāt quite comprehend just yet. Iāve been able to make these long analyses only because I love overanalyzing everything.
As for the gojohime antis, Iām absolutely terrified of them LOL. You can throw all the logic you want at them but it wonāt matter. Itās okay! People can ship whatever they want as long as itās not morally wrong šš I just wish they would accept that too. I donāt expect this ship to be canon but itās fun shipping them, you know? It takes away from the painā¦ā¦ā¦š
satosugu shippers are def masochists, iāve been avoiding all the posts bc itās too depressingĀ
OMG AND TWITTER IS SO SCARY!!! People need to find better things to do with their lives than complain about someoneās ship.Ā Ā
me: *gets doxxed*
I really enjoy being on Tumblr, though! The community is relatively non-toxic. Everyoneās just doing their own thing. If anyone wants to see more gojohime content/fanfic, I definitely recommend looking up äŗę on pixiv or searching the tag on twitter. Make sure to sign up for a pixiv account if you want to see 18+ works ;D
I thought Utahime could've studied in Tokyo cause her closeness to Gojo and Shoko (maybe the Goodwill Event made them meet and then they became close?)
I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS TOO.Ā They probably met during the Goodwill Event.Ā I remember theyāre supposed to do individual battles every year (Gojo changed it to baseball because he doesnāt like routines) so maybe thatās why Gojo keeps calling Utahime weak?Ā Perhaps her performance during the individual battles was amusing to him?Ā Ā
(I have a headcanon about how the wholeĀ āyouāre weak!ā thing started.Ā Itās angsty >:))
Itās also really funny how Gojo is listed as Utahimeās main source of stress even though they live hours away from each other.Ā It makes me wonder what he does to annoy her so much.Ā Constant calls?Ā Blowing her phone up with texts?Ā Frequent visits?
PLEASE AKUTAMI GIVE US GOJOHIME CRUMBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Their relationship is so weird I canāt explain it.Ā Theyāve definitely interacted a lot because sheās best friends with Shoko and Shoko hangs around Gojo.Ā Have their encounters dwindled as theyāve grown up?Ā Does he talk to her after staff meetings?Ā Have they ever had a genuine conversation?Ā Has their relationship progressed in the last decade?Ā Ā
teen gojohime when?Ā gojohime first encounter when?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āĀ
I have one more post coming up but besides that, I donāt know what to post about nowadays >.< I do have a buttload of headcanons, however, Iām not sure if I should share them or just write fanfic

Another one, sorry! I'm ashamed to admit it because apparently I didn't understand it Why is Gojo paying Mei Mei? I assumed it was to promote his students, since the panels are followed. Thank you so much!! Keep writing more GojoHime theories and content please
donāt apologize bby <3 iāll gladly answer all the questions you haveĀ
i always tag my posts under gojohime because i donāt want the haters to discover this account.......
Why is Gojo paying Mei Mei?
You know, I thought he was paying Mei to promote his students too.Ā But as time went on, I realized this most likely isnāt the case.Ā Of course, I could always be wrong.Ā Let me get into it!
Mei Mei is not affiliated with the Jujutsu High branches because she works on her own accord.Ā She is an independent sorceress.Ā In Gojoās point of view, sheās an ideal person to hire because she only works for the money.Ā Mei doesnāt care about anyone or anything, as long as cash is flowing in her bank account at the end of the day, she will carry out the job.Ā This aspect of Mei guarantees secrecy for Gojo because she wonāt spill the beans about the traitors.Ā Ā
Remember when Gojo told Mei that he noticed discrepancies in Yuujiās footage during the Kyoto event?Ā Mei makes the excuse that crows will always be animals so she canāt fully control where they choose to look.Ā Gojo obviously doesnāt fall for her lies so he asks her which side sheās on to which she replies withĀ āThe side with money, of course.āĀ Itās clear at this point that Gakuganji paid Mei to keep the crows away from Yuuji so Gojo wouldnāt notice that the Kyoto kids areĀ trying to assassinate his student.
Mei lies to protect her employer, Gakuganji.Ā As long as Mei is working under someone, she will always keep the mission information under wraps.Ā She wonāt even tell Gojo about Gakuganjiās scheme.Ā Ā
This probably seems off-topic but what Iām trying to say here is that assigning Mei with the task to unearth the moles would be a good choice on Gojoās behalf because she will always keep her private missions a secret, which is beneficial for Gojo and Utahime because they donāt want to let it be known that they are aware that someone is feeding intel to curses and curse users.
Okay, now letās answer why I donāt think Mei was paid by Gojo to promote his students.Ā Ā
Before he deposited the money into Meiās bank account, he was on a call with Utahime.Ā He was bragging about how the three first-year students each defeated a special grade curse on their own--thanks to his spectacular teaching.Ā Itās clear that heās referring to Megumi, Yuuji, and Nobara here.Ā Ā
Then the two talk about Utahimeās progress with the investigation.Ā He ends the call thinking that itās a hassle having to be careful because he doesnāt know who could be listening in on his conversations with Utahime.Ā This is where Mei could be useful!Ā He has to be extra cautious with Utahime because sheās a teacher thatās exposed to both the students and the Kyoto school staff.Ā Itād be hard for her to investigate because she could be close to the suspects.Ā In contrast, Mei is not associated with anyone so she would not have a problem snooping around.Ā Hiring Mei would be more convenient and much less of a risk for Gojo.Ā Ā
After Mei receives the money and laughs, we are shown Mei and Todo recommending Panda, Maki, Yuuji, Megumi, and Nobara for promotion.Ā Ā
Mei recommends Panda and Maki while Todo recommends the trio.Ā Although Maki and Panda are close to Gojo, he is not their teacher anymore because heās in charge of the first-years.Ā Atsuya Kusakabe is the one whoās in charge of the second-years.Ā If Gojo paid Mei to recommend his students then she should have said Yuuji, Megumi, and Nobara instead.Ā I firmly believe that Mei and Todo were impressed by the feats of those they recommended for promotion, therefore their actions are sincere.Ā Mei did acknowledge Makiās abilities during the event, after all.Ā We also know that Todo is a genuine guy, he would not recommend anyone if he didnāt deem them to be worthy, even Yuuji.Ā Ā
In my mind, itās out of character for Gojo to consider promoting his students to Grade 1 in such an dishonest way.Ā Early in the story, Gojo reveals that his dream is to have strong allies that are willing to help him change the jujutsu system for the better.Ā As he is talking about his dream to Ijichi, thereās a panel of Gojo with his students standing alongside him to represent that him and his students are on equal terms.Ā They are as strong, if not even stronger than him in his dream.Ā He wants to foster the next generation of sorcerers to be exceptionally strong, yes, but he doesnāt want to take shortcuts.Ā Ā
Iām sure everyone is aware that Gojo is a super childish guy.Ā I find it funny because when he was a little kid, he was so serious.Ā I think all of the responsibilities that come with being the strongest stripped him of a good childhood so he made up for it over the years by acting like a complete toddler.Ā The whole incident with Riko, Geto, and even Haibara, once again emphasized to him that being a sorcerer is no easy job.Ā At this point, heās seen the death of so many innocent children because theyāre unfortunate enough to be involved in a system that not only fails to protect them but exploits their efforts as well.Ā He absolutely hates the higher ups for making it this way.Ā He doesnāt want the students to suffer like him and his classmates did when they should be out having fun and doing what normal kids do.Ā Ā
When you are a Grade 1 sorcerer, you are expected to adhere to the standards of perfection in jujutsu society.Ā You will have to make sacrifices you donāt want to make.Ā The death of those around you is inevitable.Ā Ultimately, being a Grade 1 sorcerer demands one to harden their heart.Ā In one of the light novels, Gojo follows Nanami to Hokkaido because Nanami was on a mission there and Gojo wanted to make a request.Ā Iām too lazy to go back and read it so Iāll just have to rely on my memory.Ā What I say is accurate but likely out of order.Ā Anyway, after they finished the job Nanami sought out to do, they have a conversation about sorcery.Ā Gojo basically admits that being a sorcerer never gets easier, even for him, because he, like many others, experiences traumatic events daily as a part of his job.Ā They then go to a bar and Gojo asks Nanami to take Yuuji under his wing because he believes Nanami has a lot to teach him.Ā I donāt remember much out of the conversation but I do remember Gojo saying something along the lines of,Ā āI donāt want to see Yuujiās smile fade--not even once.āĀ This statement suggests that he wants to preserve the innocence of such a pure boy like Yuuji.Ā Nanami thinks the same because he tells Yuuji that being a child is not a sin.Ā Ā
Gojo wants to protect his studentsā childhoods.Ā It is unlike him to pay Mei to promote his students to Grade 1 because he knows that would mean they would have to leave behind their youth to be another casualty in the cruelty that is jujutsu society.Ā He doesnāt want them to be exploited by the elders.Ā Like I said before, of course he wants them to be strong, but paying his way to his goal is not characteristic of Gojo Satoru.Ā Ā

Hey! I just read your posts: they're glorious. I desperately needed GojoHime content haha I wanted to ask some questions that I think you would know how to answer. Sorry if it's a bother! First of all, Utahime studied in Tokyo? And Mei Mei was her classmate? I assumed that Utahime is three years older than Gojo because in chapter 65 Utahime is introduced as a sorceress and not as a student. I also read that there are four courses at Tokyo's school, so I thought that she would already be graduate
hi! thank you so much for messaging me :) i'll happily answer any questions you have!
Utahime studied in Tokyo? And Mei Mei was her classmate?
I don't think it was ever revealed which school Utahime and Mei went to. I'm assuming Utahime went to Kyoto because she's a teacher at Kyoto right now. As for Mei, she seems like a Tokyo person.
Why?
I think Utahime's attitude matches the stereotype of a typical person from Kyoto. I know they're known as sophisticated and pretentious (no getting mad at me, this is what it said online!) but besides the pretentious part, it fits Utahime well. She's always screaming at Gojo because he doesn't use polite language when addressing his seniors. Assuming she grew up in Kyoto, his informal language probably throws her off since being tactful is something that was greatly emphasized to her growing up.
For Mei...IDK...she just seems very Tokyo-y to me LOL
UGGHHHH it'd be so cute if they all attended Tokyo together!!!
I think they were together because Utahime had to be accompanied by a Grade 1 sorcerer on missions. Can you recall the whole Grade 1 promotion process? First, a Grade 1 sorcerer has to recommend you for promotion, and then you must be accompanied by another Grade 1 sorcerer, who cannot be the sorcerer that recommended you (to avoid bias), to gauge if your abilities suit what they are looking for in a Grade 1 sorcerer. If the promotion candidate completes the missions to the Grade 1 sorcerer's satisfaction, they are then given a solo mission to exorcise a Grade 1 spirit. So Mei and Utahime being together on a mission doesn't really allude to them attending the same school.
Remember, I'm just making speculations D: My thoughts are not the truth. I have to be delusional because Akutami is not giving us any Utahime crumbs...
I assumed that Utahime is three years older than Gojo because in chapter 65 Utahime is introduced as a sorceress and not as a student. I also read that there are four courses at Tokyo's school, so I thought that she would already be a graduate.
Utahime is 2 years older than Gojo :3 I did the math and everything. Gojo's birthday is December 7, 1989. The story takes place in 2018. Since the Shibuya shenanigans already happened (October 31st, 2018) we can assume that it's November in the manga. This means that Gojo has not celebrated his 29th birthday. Utahime, on the other hand, is confirmed to be 31 years old. Her birthday is February 18. How do we know she's two years older than Gojo and not 3? Well, her birthday has already passed at this point, hasn't it? She turned 31 in 2018 while Gojo has yet to reach 29 because it's not December yet. From this information, we can conclude that Utahime's full birthday is February 18, 1987.
*Though Jujutsu High is a four-year school, the Goodwill Event is open to only third-years and below.
I checked the official Viz Media translation and this message was also there. This confirms that Jujutsu High is a 4 year school. Since Utahime is only 2 years older than Gojo, when he was a 2nd year, she was a 4th year. I don't really know why she wasn't introduced as a 4th year student. Perhaps it's to emphasize that the mission Utahime and Mei were on was for Utahime's promotion? Or 4th-year students aren't really considered students but soon-to-be fully pledged sorcerers.
YEAH SO WE DON'T REALLY KNOW UNLESS AKUTAMI EXPANDS ON IT
----
Thank you for asking some questions in my dry ass inbox LOL...it's never a bother so don't worry about it :D

analyzing every gojohime moment in the manga >:) pt. 3
more and more paragraphs ahead.Ā BE PREPARED!
iām also writing this at 3 am so please bear with the horrendous grammar and punctuation.
chapter 63
i know heās probably like this with everyone but i love how excited he is bragging about his students to her.Ā heās like a child telling his mother about an amazing adventure he had with his friends, making sure he mentions every detail.Ā in the anime, their conversation lasted for 3:41 :3 backwards 341 is 143 which means i love you.Ā Ā
1 letter = i
4 letters = love
3 letters = you
chapter 63
i loveĀ her fit!Ā i also like how both of them like to wear baggy clothing that accentuates their collarbones `w` itās like theyāre matching in a way.Ā even if she did tell him to cut the crap, she still let him run his mouth to his content LOL i feel like if he didnāt compliment himself at the end, she would have said something different. Ā UGH HE LOOKS SO HAPPY CALLING HER
Ā ah, let me translate the conversation just in case anyone needs it.
utahime: you wanted to talk about the investigation, right?
gojo: well, got any idea who?
utahime: i have no idea.Ā no one seems suspicious.Ā what do we do now?Ā should we ask the students for help?
gojo: yeah, thatās fine.Ā iām busy so asking the kids would be okay.Ā keep looking.Ā iām counting on you.
I THINK THATāS WHAT THEYāRE TRYING TO SAY.
OR it could mean that sheās asking if they should start investigating the students.Ā it would make sense either way because gojo says in the next panel that he doesnāt want to assume that the mole is a student, and in chapter 79, gojo sends the trio to utahime to help her.Ā Ā
chapter 63
these two love their students to death.Ā neither of them wanted to assume that the mole was a student.Ā in chapter 79, when utahime is talking to the trio about the mole, nobara points out to the group that the traitor must be from kyoto because utahime is the one whoās reaching out to the tokyo side.Ā utahime has a dismal look on her face, almost like sheās saying,Ā āi didnāt want it to turn out this way -- for this to be true.āĀ after mechamaru says his farewells to miwa on the train, mai tries to talk about what he did to which utahime says,Ā āit doesnāt matter, heās dead, after all,ā with a similar sunken expression.Ā i just love how her care for the students is one of the biggest aspects of her personality thatās been showcased so far.Ā itās also cool how it ties together with gojoās belief that no childās youth should be taken away.Ā i truly think these two have the capacity to understand each other to a deep level, down to the core.Ā seeing as utahime is also a teacher, itās safe to assume that she also wants to raise the next generation of sorcerers to be strong.Ā utahime and gojoās similarities and contrasting elements are so interwined, i really wonder if itās intentional.Ā like am i looking too much into this?Ā are utahime and gojo really meant to be this connected?Ā think about it.Ā similar motivations, care of the kids, contrasting palettes, the bickering, long history.Ā ITāS JUST TOO MUCH.Ā
also can we mention how their phone calls and meetings must be heavily planned out?Ā this means theyāve talked and interacted with each other A LOT behind the scenes.Ā she doesnāt answer his call withĀ āwhat do you want?Ā donāt bother me on my day off.āĀ she knows exactly why heās calling her and they even speak in code.Ā she probably meets up with him and tells him to call her on a specific day and at a specific time.Ā they must know each otherās schedules very well in order to execute this investigation in complete secrecy.Ā when he says,Ā āwe can never be too sure who is listening in around utahimeā it implies that they find calling a risk, so in order to guarantee that there is no one around, they have to meet up in person.Ā see where iām getting at?Ā they talk A LOTTT and most likely are aware of each otherās daily lives.Ā Ā
the fact that gojo is her main source of stress when heās literally a 3 hour train ride away from her is hilarious LMAOOOO.Ā you know what that means, right?Ā he must call and text her constantly about random things to annoy her.Ā Ā
chapter 65
ah yes, my favorite moment by far.Ā look at that smile on his face.Ā Ā
chapter 65
he loves saying her name.Ā he probably rushed over with the sole purpose of doing something like this to her LMAOOOO like i mean, mei was in there with her so technically they both needed to be helped but judging from his words and expression, he only wanted to help utahime.Ā notice how meiās not there in the debris.Ā could she possibly have suspected gojoās presence or an outside force?Ā or was she fast enough to avoid being in the debris?Ā either way, her lack of presence in this scene helps highlight the fact that this is a special interaction between utahime and gojo.Ā he refers to her in a very familiar sense.Ā the most formal way to address someone is by their last name followed by the honorific, -san.Ā in gojoās case, he should be calling her iori-san if they werenāt acquainted.Ā he doesnāt even bother to call her utahime-senpai.Ā granted, gojo is not the most respectful and socially competent person out there because geto points this out to him.Ā he isnāt even aware that she finds him annoying because he views her bad attitude toward him as her just playing along with him.Ā he probably thinks sheās flirting back LOLOL
since he asks herĀ āyou cryin?ā that definitely means that gojo witnessed her crying on one occasion or maybe multiple.Ā who knows, the old utahime could have been a very emotional person.Ā while this is happening, mei is close to gojo, she then asks him if he would console her if she were to cry in a flirtatious manner.Ā gojo dismisses her attempt at flirting with him and says she wonāt cry because sheās strong.Ā now normally, youāre supposed to face the person youāre talking to, GOJO.Ā he KEEPS his eyes on her even when more people come to join the conversation.Ā Ā
now, we can all agree that geto, mei, and shoko are better at picking up social cues than gojo.Ā they probably knew the vibe of the conversation and decided to play along with gojoās antics.Ā Ā
chapter 65
WE were worried about you.
pay attention to the order of the characters that show up.Ā gojo makes his appearance first, then geto, followed by shoko.Ā based on utahimeās reaction to seeing shoko, itās evident that these two share a close bond.Ā shouldnāt shoko be the one to arrive on the scene first?Ā sheās the closest to utahime and would therefore be more concerned about her condition, right?Ā i know shokoās technique doesnāt really allow her to do anything other than treat the wounds of others, but if you heard your friend was missing, you would definitely rush to the scene.Ā Ā
look at getoās reaction when mei says,Ā āyouāre the one whoās picking on her, geto.Ā you donāt even know it.āĀ i think itās mei whoās saying this because gojo calls geto āsuguruā.Ā but anyway, mei is aware that theyāre picking on her.Ā i donāt think sheās the type to legitimately bully someone for their strength.Ā her reaction to all of this is very playful and herĀ āheh heh hehā is proof of that.Ā when geto shows up and swallows the curse before it gets to utahime, he says,Ā āsatoru.Ā itās not nice to pick on the weak.āĀ by saying this, he pisses utahime off because he too, is joining in on gojoās joke.Ā i believe heās unaware that heās making fun of utahime because his reaction isĀ āgah!ā with a sweatdrop.Ā he probably thought gojo was making fun of weak people in general.Ā Ā
getoās usually a gentleman seeing as it is canon that he is more popular with girls than gojo.Ā BUT WHO KNOWS...you gotta be a specific type of person to be best friends with gojo.Ā maybe he aināt shit too...Ā okay, my point is that everyone is just playing along.Ā when shoko shows up, utahime is relieved to see her because shoko doesnāt tease her like this.Ā since utahime tells shoko to not become like those two, this implies that getoĀ teases her as well (probably not as much as gojo).Ā we all know geto is really big on looking out for the weak so he probably wouldnāt have insulted her for real.Ā Ā
verdict: utahime being weak is just a joke.Ā iāve mentioned this so many times, sorry if itās getting annoying and repetitive hehehehehe...
chapter 65
these three arenāt irresponsible.Ā geto and gojo are a troublesome duo for sure, but theyāre dependable.Ā seems unlike them to forget something so simple and essential to pretty much every mission.Ā Ā
chapter 65
hereās my headcanon.Ā they were hanging outside or in the car when their assistant manager got a call.Ā the assistant was informed that two days have elapsed since mei and utahime went on their mission (or last contacted someone).Ā Ā
gojo: thatās weird.Ā meiās with her so they should have finished exorcising the spirit sooner.
geto: you think something happened to them?Ā maybe itās a strong special grade.
gojo: utahime probably dragged mei down with her.Ā poor mei-san~Ā Ā
gojo gets upĀ
geto: where are you going?Ā Ā
gojo: going to save utahime!Ā itās fine iāll put up a curtain!
manager: gojo wait!!!!!!!!!!!
geto sighs
shoko: that idiotās always running off without us.
they pin the blame on gojo for saying that heāll put up a curtain and leaving the assistant manager behind.Ā you know what this means?Ā he ran and the manager couldnāt catch up HEHE... why the rush, gojo?Ā were you actually concerned about her?Ā Ā
tbh i donāt see gojo ever running to something unless itās urgent.Ā the fact that he ran to save her says a lot.Ā Ā
----
let me know if you have any thoughts or questions!Ā i forgot to add this but gojo had a more serious expression when he was explaining how they mustāve been trapped in a barrier that messes with time.Ā he then states,Ā āwe thought it was weird even though youāre here, mei.āĀ i know he was probably worried sick because if mei couldnāt be contacted then that means something mustāve happened to utahime too.Ā okay thatās it for now.Ā iāll be bringing up this little detail iāve noticed about utahime in the manga next :3

analyzing every gojohime moment in the manga p2
part 1 is here :3
this post includes more excruciatingly long paragraphs so grab urself something and enjoy LOL
chapter 40Ā
i know theyāre not interacting in this panel but i still want to bring it up.Ā iām gonna give some context to this scene in case someone needs to jog their memory.Ā so basically, meiās ability to command crows is what allows the staff to observe the students from afar.Ā however, gojo notices that thereās lack of footage where yuuji is and asks mei why thatās so.Ā she tells him that theyāre animals at the end of the day so she canāt control what they look at.Ā he doesnāt believe her so he asks her whose side sheās on (for yuujiās execution vs against yuujiās execution) to which she responds with,Ā āwhose side?Ā iām on the side with money, of course.Ā thereās no value in something that canāt be bought since you canāt exchange that for money.āĀ in other words, sheāll always choose the side that offers her more money because she doesnāt care about how morallyĀ ācorrectā orĀ āincorrectā something is.Ā itās not worth fighting for a cause that doesnāt benefit her in the long run which is why she views things that are unable to be bought (friendships, relationships, favors) as useless - they canāt be exchanged for money.Ā itās clear that gojo knows sheās not on his side because he replies with,Ā āspoken from experience!ā orĀ āi wonder how much!ā (translation varies).Ā he says it out loud to perhaps let gakuganji know that heās onto him.Ā i find it interesting how utahime is in the panel as well with aĀ ā?ā to express her confusion at his words.Ā letās overthink dissectĀ that.Ā why is she there in the first place? if the message was to let gakuganji know that gojo is aware of his ulterior motives then a panel with gakuganji and gojo would have sufficed.Ā why add utahime with a question mark?Ā
hereās a personal headcanon of mine that makes no absolute sense, but who cares? it makes me happy LOL.Ā so letās examine the panel.Ā gojoās face is more simplified and cartoonish with a grey background on top and some sort of white bubble surrounding the three characters.Ā gakuganji is staring at utahime and gojo.Ā in the official viz translation, he replies to mei with,Ā āi wonder how much!āĀ Ā
normal and logical explanation: shading the principal by asking out loud how much mei was paid by him to avoid monitoring yuuji.
gojohime brainrot explanation:Ā
mei: āthereās no value in something that canāt be bought since you canāt exchange that for moneyā
gojo: (in response) i wonder how much utahimeās love would cost if it did have a price.
utahime: ?
youāre probably thinking iām delulu (true) BUT HEAR ME OUT.Ā IT WOULD SOMEWHAT MAKE SENSE IN THIS CONTEXT...
meiās saying seems to be what she lives by.Ā relationships, love, friendships, etc. do not matter to her as this is evident when she ultimately abandons everyone in shibuya to escape to malaysia, selling all her stocks before japanās economy goes down.Ā she doesnāt care about anyone else.Ā she even takes advantage of ui uiās adoration for her.Ā she contrasts utahime.Ā utahime is loved by her students.Ā children, especially teenagers, are picky when it comes to choosing the adults they admire and respect.Ā while everyone trusts gojo, they do not respect him because of his childishness and overall absurdity.Ā itās refreshing to see how they always call him an idiot or have a -_- face when heās around.Ā when akutami says everyone absolutely adores utahime-sensei, it says a lot.Ā we havenāt seen her interact with her students all that much, but sheās obviously close to them because sheās frequently arguing with momo.Ā even a closed off person like mechamaru wanted to keep her away from danger.Ā she most certainly expresses a lot of concern and care for her students, and gojo and her students can pick up on this.Ā
iāve talked about this in every post LOLOL but thereās a reason why he went to utahime first to help him investigate.Ā utahime is a loyal person through and through.Ā she would never do something that harms the students even if she was offered everything in the world.Ā she values relationships above everything else.Ā besides her concern for the students, how else was i able to come to this conclusion about her character?Ā well, she got shoko to stop smoking because she was worried about how it might damage her friendās health.Ā from these two details, itās obvious that sheās the complete opposite of mei.Ā Ā
maybe thatās why he calls her weak.Ā sheās too selfless and compassionate in a world where every sorcerer is for themselves.Ā the world is cruel as a sorcerer.Ā no matter how hard you try to fight, in the end, youāll always die alone.Ā remember his talk with megumi after the baseball game?Ā after witnessing megumi pull a sacrificial bunt to help his teammates advance, gojo has a talk with megumi about his attitude and potential.Ā he says that being selfless and caring about others is not a bad thing, but in a world like this, where people always die alone, he is wasting his potential by being concerned with others.Ā itās okay to be selfish.Ā this is why we see fierce independence in a lot of the sorcerers like mei, nanami, and gojo.Ā they each have their own reasons as to why they work alone, but itās still a common characteristic.Ā i feel like utahime doesnāt have a selfish bone in her body.Ā i speculate that her selflessness is the exact reason why she is being held back.Ā during her mission to exorcise a grade 1 spirit by herself, the final task before being promoted to grade 1, she likely got distracted trying to help civilians out of danger and failed her mission.Ā heās right when he says she doesnāt have the guts to be the traitor, utahime doesnāt have it in her to do something so boldly solely for her own benefit.Ā Ā
after this long tangent, how does this relate to your headcanon, ootahime?Ā Ā
as you know, love is not transactional.Ā you canāt pay someone to love you.Ā what if gojo is asking himself how much it would cost to buy her love.Ā hence, her confusion because she is oblivious to what he really means.Ā it could be probable because gakuganji is observing not only gojo, but utahime as well.Ā so what gojo says must involve her too, right?Ā Ā
or she could just be confused because his words seem out of place because she is unaware of what gakuganji is doing behind everyoneās back.Ā that explanation makes sense for vizās official translation but it doesnāt make sense when he says,Ā āspoken from experience!ā because his words make sense in that context.Ā heās basically saying that meiās beliefs must be based on her past experiences so he understands why she feels this way.Ā thatās an appropriate response to meiās statement so i donāt see why utahime would be confused by this.Ā unless iām interpreting this whole scene completely wrong.Ā in that case, whoopsies!Ā Ā
let me know if youāre confused because iām willing to clarify.Ā idk why but i found this really difficult to explain.Ā maybe because iām reaching so hard haha
chapter 40
he finds any way he can to tease her.Ā they seem like a married couple watching a movie or something.Ā does he take pride in being the only person she doesnāt get along with?Ā i mean, she says it herself so he is aware she thinks heās annoying, but he keeps picking on her anyway.Ā he doesnāt even pick on his enemies this much LMAOOO i think the only other person he likes to make fun of is gakuganji but he does so because he doesnāt agree with his views.Ā with utahime itās different.Ā he trusts her a lot and even looks out for her.Ā Ā
chapter 44
why are there two separate instances of gakuganji observing utahime and gojoās interactions from afar?Ā nah iām just playing.Ā heās just looking because heās concerned sheāll run into the semi-grade 1 curse he had for yuuji.Ā OKAY BUT I NOTICED SOMETHING KINDA CUTE?Ā whenever utahime says something suddenly, he always has those 3 little triangles near his head.Ā itās like heās thinking,Ā āoh!Ā utahime is speaking, i must listen <3ā³Ā look at his face too.Ā heās looking at her like :O
this is also an example of her showcasing her concern for the students in front of gojo.Ā i feel like he questions why sheās so caring because if it were him, he would have left the student to figure it out themselves.Ā i really wonder how she would react if he answered her truthfully when she asked what heād do if she were the traitor.Ā Ā
chapter 45
thereās not much to say here...theyāre just cute.Ā i know itāll never happen but iād like to see them fight side by side one day.Ā iām aware that gojo works best alone but i just want to see how theyād work together, okay? š
chapter 45
see the little triangles on his head again?Ā UGH SO CUTE.Ā Ā
chapter 45
IS THIS NOT INTENTIONAL???Ā they share the same thoughts.Ā he even finished her thought.Ā mannnnnnnnnnnnn what is akutami doing?Ā giving us false hope and stripping it away just for fun?Ā making them work so well together for what??
chapter 52
cute how he looks out for her.Ā i have nothing more to say LOL
chapter 53
notice how theyāre sitting across from each other?Ā HEHE
chapter 53
yet another instance of her caring for her students in front of gojo.Ā in the anime she has the cutest expression when she says sheās glad the students are safe.Ā i bet gojo saw that too.Ā i also bet that she looks prettier from his point of view.
extra
from the manga and light novels, gojo and utahime are the ones that talk about sports the most.Ā he most definitely chose baseball to cheer her up.Ā itās not a coincidence people!Ā Ā
--
i feel like i had a lot more to say but i completely lost my train of thought while writing this, especially with chapter 40. iām once again writing this at 4 in the morning LOL........Ā please please please add on or share your thoughts!Ā thank you for reading and sorry for any mistakes.Ā Ā

analyzing every gojohime moment in the manga š
this series will probably have more than one part because tumblr only lets me upload ten images per post </3
warning: there are disgustingly long paragraphs in here and delusions
chapter 32
utahimeās first introduction!Ā akutami lets us know right off the bat that she thinks gojo is an idiot (so true).
chapter 32
i love the contrast between miwa and utahimeās reaction to gojoās appearance.Ā Ā
chapter 33
NAH BC TELL ME WHY HE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO NOT GET HER ONE LMAOOOO!!Ā when he traveled overseas to meet with yuta, he picked up the tribal protection charms and thought to himself,Ā āletās get enough for the kyoto students as a gift since i am such a great and caring teacher, after all.Ā mmm, i should skip utahime to make her mad~āĀ this guy puts way too much effort into getting on her nerves.Ā his mind = utahime brainrot
chapter 33
sheās laughing at him here because heās getting disciplined for being a lil shit.Ā i wonder...what would he say if he saw her laughing at him like that?Ā Ā
chapter 33
this interaction between them is a little strange donāt you think?Ā Ā i feel like over the years heās learned how to pick up her mood based on the way sheās acting towards him.Ā Ā youāre probably thinking,Ā āwell any person can figure out how a personās feeling based on the way theyāre talking or acting.āĀ yes, thatās absolutely true, but itās kind of different with this.Ā sheās acting normal.Ā utahime has a rather indifferent expression on her face and what she says is spoken in a calm tone, but gojo still asks her if sheās mad at him.Ā itās likely that he knows her well enough to be able to notice these subtle things.Ā even if she wasnāt actually mad at him, he was being considerate for a split second, then he went and said, āof course.Ā i didnāt do anything wrong and all.āĀ what a guy LOLOL.Ā to me, this implies that maybe he made her genuinely angry in the past to the point where he realized that he went too far, and thus decided to be more careful of her feelings.Ā she has definitely gotten annoyed at him so many times after that so whenever she seems angry, he probably asks himself if he took it too far.Ā iām curious to see if he can pick up if sheās upset with something thatās not involving him.Ā would he console her?Ā how does gojo satoru console someone?Ā Ā
despite him always annoying her, sheās still courteous and brings him a cup of tea during their talk.Ā she didnāt have to go out of her way to get tea for him but she did.Ā thatās the kind of person utahime is.Ā a kind and caring woman who would never put her students in danger.Ā in the anime they were sitting far away and not facing each other like theyāre doing in the manga.Ā she also has her own tea cup.Ā i think that little panel of her placing the cup down on the table and him picking it up to take a sip is a nice little detail.Ā it just proves that her hating him most of the time isnāt actually pure hatred but annoyance because of his shenanigans and teasing.
chapter 33
i touched upon this a little bit in my previous post, but i wish to go more in depth about this panel.Ā first of all, he ends the sentence with her name twice.Ā two times too many, mr. gojo.Ā i like how they can be serious with each other too LOL.Ā i wish we got to see them talk about the traitors because they did figure it out together after all.Ā does it always end in bickering?Ā can they interact with each other like adults all the way through?Ā somehow, i feel like thatās not possible when it comes to these two.Ā furthermore, notice how gojo confides in utahime about his suspicions.Ā from what we know, she is the first person he brought it up to.Ā i mean, i guess he has to start investigating the schools and would need extra assistance to save time, but he could have done it himself if he really wanted to.Ā by deciding to ask for her help we know that he thinks sheās trustworthy, smart, and strong enough to face whatever considerable risks this task may entail.Ā Ā
i didnāt point this out in my other posts but see how he makes a hand sign in the last panel when she throws the cup at him?Ā gojo is manually activating his infinity.Ā why though?Ā about a year after the whole star plasma vessel incident happened, gojo develops the ability to keep his infinity up at all times by using the reversed curse technique to consistently heal himself to prevent exhaustion.Ā this means that it really makes no difference whether he leaves it on or off.Ā there are a few times where we can witness someone actually touching gojo.Ā for example, yuuji giving him a hug.Ā did he turn his infinity off, or was it able to deduce that yuuji was not a threat?Ā the erasers and pencils shoko and geto threw at him during his demonstration of his new ability arenāt dangerous normally, but is it the speed that makes them dangerous?Ā even if it did hit him, it wouldnāt hurt.Ā how does the infinity know when to allow an incoming object to touch gojo?Ā i believe it is up to gojo himself to let things touch him; his infinity restricts anything and anyone.Ā some people say it could just be the fact that water is not dangerous to him, so therefore, he has to manually put his infinity up.Ā i thought this was a reasonable explanation as to why he put up the hand sign when the tea was thrown at him, but then i realized that it couldnāt be.Ā remember the second opening?Ā itās raining and everyone is carrying an umbrella, then it pans to gojo with a bouquet in his hand and rain drops slipping off his infinity.Ā if he DID manually put his infinity up to prevent getting soaked then that implies that he chose to turn his infinity off.Ā you can argue and say that jujutsu high is a safe place with students so thereās no need to have his infinity there, but do you remember when he stepped on the ants in front of gakuganji and yaga?Ā the ants were perfectly fine after which insinuates that his infinity prevented his shoes from crushing the ants.Ā he most likely had his infinity on during the baseball game even though he was in a safe environment.Ā how does this long tangent relate back to utahime?Ā well, it simply indicates that gojo trusts utahime so much to the point where he can be vulnerable around her.Ā turning off his infinity symbolizes completely letting down his guardĀ in a way.Ā Ā
how about what happens next?Ā utahime throws the tea at him, he turns on his infinity to deflect it, and he responds with,Ā āscary!Ā hysteric women arenāt popular, you know!āĀ why would he even say that LMAO??Ā utahime doesnāt even try to deny what he said either.Ā she just hits him with the good old,Ā āi am your senpai!āĀ could it be that heās trying to poke fun of her relationship status?Ā maybe, maybe not.Ā doesnāt he like people a lil crazy?Ā he did say that all jujutsu sorcerers have to be a little crazy because theyāre willing to put themselves in danger constantly.Ā Ā
chapter 0 p.1
i wonder who heās thinking of when he said that.Ā could it be utahime?Ā it seems like heās reminiscing or thinking about someone.Ā he wears an amused expression on his face as he laughs - almost like heās seen his fair share of how scary women can get :>>
chapter 34
the pattern behind gojo and utahime is called yagasuriĀ āfletching,ā a traditional japanese design.Ā this design is inspired by arrow fletching.Ā it's a lucky charm for weddings and other celebrations since it's based on the Japanese belief that an arrow shot once never comes back.Ā brides were given kimonos with this pattern for good luck during the edo era (1603ā1868) to ensure they would not have to return to their original family home.Ā this pattern can have numerous meanings such as steadfastness or determination to achieve a goal, or a wish for the happiness of the bride.Ā there is a belief that a bow and arrow represent the fight against evil.Ā honestly, this meaning fits the narrative of the story.Ā utahime and gojo are unearthing the traitors that are feeding intel to the curse users and cursed spirits.Ā they are in the middle while the kyoto students surround them, which could mean that itās their job as adults to protect these children from the grasps of evil slowly making itself more prominent.Ā do you also notice that the arrows are pointed toward utahime from gojo?Ā from all the images iāve seen, the arrows are usually pointed downward.Ā what could this mean?Ā is gojo trying to protect her (in the future (?)) or does he have a big fat crush smh...
i think itās a good time to mention utahimeās clothing.Ā sheās wearing miko attire.Ā miko are shrine maidens who were once thought to be shamans (you connecting the dots?).Ā in their service to shrines, miko used to perform spirit possession and takusen (in which the possessed person acts as a "medium" (yorimashi) to communicate the divine will or message of that kami (god) or spirit; also included in the category of takusen is "dream revelation" (mukoku), in which a kami appears in a dream to communicate its will).Ā this was back in the old days, of course.Ā to become a miko back then (shaman), one needed to have potential.Ā neurosis, hallucinations, odd behavior, and hysteria (HYSTERIA HELLO???) are some of the signs that a person is being called to shamanism.Ā when a miko is communicating with a kami (god) or spirit by acting as a medium, she is in a trance-like state, and so she must learn techniques to control herself when this happens.Ā chanting and dancing were used to accomplish this, so the girl was taught melodies and intonations that were used in songs, prayers, and magical formulas.Ā all of this could give us insight about utahimeās technique and explains why sheās good at singing :)Ā maybe she canāt control herself when she uses her technique which is why she isnāt shown using it because it should be used for dire situations.Ā i imagine being possessed by a spirit or god must consume a lot of cursed energy.Ā it makes sense that utahime and gakuganji wear traditional clothing.Ā theyāre the staff of jujutsu highās kyoto branch.Ā in chapter 0, kyoto is known as the sacred land of jujutsu.Ā itās more traditional compared to tokyo.Ā if you want to learn more about miko, you should check out the wikipedia page!Ā Ā
chapter 34
i swear he tries to annoy her every chance he gets.Ā i bet he sets a goal for himself to see how many times utahime lectures him about respecting his seniors every time heās within the same vicinity as her.Ā at least he called her utahime-sensei!!!
chapter 40
this isnāt even a gojohime moment tbh...i just wanted to share a pic of them sitting next to each other HEHE.Ā why are they sitting next to each other anyway?Ā itās not like they have assigned seating.

that was so long and i apologize for the gargantuan paragraphs you guys had to read through.Ā iām writing this at 4 in the morning and iām feeling borderline delirious so i apologize if there are any errors.Ā iāll edit this when i have time <3

what is utahimeās role in the future? ā a prediction (manga spoilers)
part 2 (unedited)
part 1 is here!
letās continue answering the question: is utahime weak?
chapter 135
what preparations is utahime making? like iāve mentioned before, i theorize that she needs to charge up in order to use her technique. since momo and the other kyoto students are fighting on the front line to buy time for utahime, i believe that they trust that their teacherās ability can help turn the situation around.
what do the students think of her? do they think sheās weak?
chapter 128
mechamaru manipulates the circumstances in a way that allow him to keep the kyoto people away from danger. this has more to do with how much he cares about his classmates and his teacher rather than seeing them as incompetent sorcerers who canāt hold their own. notice how he says āEVEN utahimeā.
chapter 128
kamo thinks mechamaru doesnāt have that much faith in the Kyoto studentsābut this isnāt true at all! he knows who the enemy is and has a grasp of how dangerous they are. he just wants to keep his friends safe. besides, kamo is a semi-grade 1 sorcerer which means heās more than capable of defending himself against curses. but since heās being kept safe too, it suggests that this is not a matter of keeping weak people away from fighting :)
chapter 41
this seems a bit off topic but letās talk about the misogyny in jujutsu society. momo points out to nobara that the women from the zenin clan are expected to be perfect. the misogyny runs so deep to the point where some women arenāt allowed to even fight. you may think that this is just about the zenin clan but itās about society as a whole. thatās why nobara responds to momo in a more personal sense. she doesnāt care about the boys versus girls issue because she embraces all aspects of herself. she loves herself when sheās strong, and she loves herself when sheās dressed up and beautiful. if it only applied to the zenin family then nobara wouldnāt have responded the way she did.
in the chapter before, nishimiya explains, āeven if a girl has skills, if sheās not cute, sheās looked down upon. of course, if sheās only cute with no skill, itās the same. women sorcerers arenāt expected to be skilled, theyāre expected to be perfect.ā
some of the female characters in jujutsu kaisen apply to this. for example, maki and mai. theyāre looked down upon because one canāt use a cursed technique or see curses, while the otherās cursed technique is weak. in chapter 148(?) naoya says the only thing maki had going for her was her face, but itās ruined now so sheās nothing. the zenin twins fall under the ācute but not skilledā category in jujutsu society. before we can put utahime into a category, letās examine mei.
i promise this will all connect so please bear with me LOLLL letās move on to mei. we find out that mei has the ability to control crows. she deems this ability as weak because itās simple and doesnāt have much attack or defense power.
she convinces herself that a sorcererās worth doesnāt revolve around their CT. by following this ideal, she soon found herself at her limit because you can only hone your physical abilities to an extent. she said she was crushed because she thought that her weak CT would forever stunt her ability to grow as a sorcerer. but because of all the training she did in order to not rely on her CT, she was able to combine her physical prowess with her technique to make whatās best of her ability to control crows.
mei is an example of a perfect woman based on the standards the jujutsu world has established for women. although she has a weak technique, she makes up for it with adept use of weapons and physical prowess. she found a way to incorporate this āweakā ability to make it something strong. sheās beautiful and powerful so therefore, she was promoted to be a grade 1 sorcerer. she is what a woman is expected to be in order to be acknowledged by others.
what about utahime? why couldnāt she follow the same footsteps as mei?
i canāt answer that because we donāt really know much about utahime so far. i can only speculate why. being a grade 2 sorcerer at 20 is not bad at all. but why is she stuck as a semi-grade 1 sorcerer at 31? that surely proves sheās just weak, right?
semi-grade 1 sorcerers are sorcerers who have performed well on missions with a person accompanying them. i feel like when utahime was on a mission to exorcise a grade 1 curse on her own (the final step of the grade 1 promotion process), something happened that gave her her scar and made her unable to fulfill the mission. itās either that or she did complete the mission but her appearance is too unsatisfactory. can you recall what nishimiya said? if youāre cute and not skilled, youāre not good enough. if youāre not cute and skilled, youāre still not good enough.
in men, scars are a symbol of honor and strength. on the other hand, scars on a womanās face are seen as an imperfection. as a result, those who are scarred are deemed imperfect and unsuitable for marriage.
gojo hates the way things are run because the higher ups are so close-minded. they make decisions on a whim and have no compassion for sorcerers who are breaking their backs on their orders. he wants to change jujutsu society for the better by raising the next generation of sorcerers to be as strong as him. the old-fashioned and narrow-minded attitude of the higher ups leads me to believe that utahime is stuck as a semi-grade 1 sorcerer because she is viewed as imperfect. utahimeās scar is most likely the reason contributing to her being held back. who would want to promote a woman who isnāt beautiful enough to be a grade 1 sorcerer?
she obviously has a lot to offer because sheās a teacher at Kyoto. todo, a grade 1 sorcerer, has never shown any sign of disrespect towards utahime despite the fact that he surpassed her in rankings. he trusts in her and believes she has some things she can teach him.
can we additionally address the fact that gojo respects mei? he refers to her as mei-san and says that thereās no way sheād cry because sheās strong. mei has a weak technique though? š¤š¤š¤ controlling crows?!?!?! nah im jk, mei is strong with and without her technique, of course. since gojo respects someone like mei, a person who doesnāt have an out-of-this-world technique, i believe his view of someone strong isnāt solely based on their technique. when he calls utahime weak, he may not be insulting her CT. itās just all jokes because in chapter 65, geto and mei join in on the fun too and pick on her. mr. hot shot knows that utahime is a valuable asset to his plans so he entrusts her with the task of unearthing the traitor(s). if she was so incapable of such a thing, why did he pay mei to do the same job? š¤
*a lot of people think mei was actually paid by gojo to promote his students but thatās incorrect. it goes against everything gojo advocates for. he wants his kids to enjoy their youth because his was taken away. being a sorcerer is not a smooth job and no matter how many years youāre in the profession, it never gets easier. he doesnāt wish for his students to be thrust in a world full of hardship and loss, which is why he was so against yuuji and yutaās execution. he works hard to preserve the innocence of his students. he doesnāt want yujiās heart to break, not even once. why would he pay mei to promote his students to grade 1? that would automatically strip them of their innocence and youth and push them into a world full of burden and pain.
PHEW that was long. how does this all tie back to utahimeās future role in the story?
her CT will probably come in clutch in an important battle
she might be the one to help get gojo out the box (A REACH i know)
she will help gojo with his plan to overthrow and change jujutsu society as a whole
i donāt really have to dive into the first bullet point. as for the second one, look at what i found!
in the second opening, utahime is seen searching for something in a dim forest.
*i read an analysis about opening 2 and apparently this just symbolizes her looking for the traitors. that makes sense too.
in chapter 144, this scenery pops up right before they enter master tengenās base(?) the branches are thicker than in the opening but it gives the same vibes to me. i think utahime will be the one to break gojo out.
why utahime? well, gojo is their best shot at stabilizing whatever the fuck is going on right now. she knows itās a crime to unseal him, but she wants her students to be safe so sheāll probably risk it. plus, gojoās flashback starts with him breaking utahime and mei out of a building with a barrier. Ā i think utahime breaking gojo out of the prison realm will make a perfect parallel :3
that theory is a massive ass pull I KNOW. itās just fun to think about. itās likely that kurusu hana will be the one helping yuuji and megumi out with that.
if utahime isnāt the one freeing gojo, she will definitely come face to face with the other traitors.
ive read numerous Reddit threads and tons of users think sheāll play a small role in the storyānothing too significant. iām perfectly content with that as well. i never expected her to be gojo level or anything like that LMAOO. as long as we get to see her technique in action, i will be satisfied š®āšØ
āā
i feel like there may be a few things i missed but i tried to include everything i could think of. the organization of this post is quite off but im too lazy to rearrange it in a way that makes it more coherent LOL. thank you so much for reading. ill probably analyze gojo and utahimeās interactions in the manga and anime next :-)

what is utahimeās role in the future? ā a prediction (manga spoilers)
part 1 (unedited)
I WAS ABOUT TO POST IT BUT I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED IT AND I WAS SO HURT FR!!!!! I HAD REWRITE THIS ENTIRE THING </33
part 2 is here!
in this post, i will be analyzing the information weāve been given about utahime so far to form a prediction about her future role in the jujutsu kaisen series. if youāre as interested in utahimeās character as i am, please feel free to keep reading :3 (iāll also be talking about her relationship with gojo a bit too)
soukatsu_ on twt!
kaikaikitan on twt!
utahime iori is a semi-grade 1 sorcerer working as a student supervisor/teacher at kyoto jujutsu high school. she loves drinking beer and going to karaoke. sheās also close friends with shoko and sheās not particularly fond of gojo most of the time. what else do we know about her?
hates sweets (funny sheās the complete opposite of gojo)
sheās great at singing and itās a huge part of her technique
squabbling with gojo became a reflex :3
everyone absolutely adores utahime
loves watching soccer and baseball
a terrible drunk (worse than naobito zenin)
gojo is her main source of stress
letās dive into her personality and abilities!
chapter 65
before i get into it, i think itād be best if i were to explain the timeline because a lot of people seem to be confused about this one particular thing. utahime is born on february 18th, 1987. contrary to popular belief, she is not 3 years older than gojo. it is november 2018 in the story because gojo was sealed on halloween. if gojo was born on december 7th, 1989, that would mean that right now, he is only 28 years old. he has yet to turn 29.
the year is 2007. gojo satoru is a second year at tokyo jujutsu high school. the japanese school year begins in april which suggests that gojo is only 17 at the time (even if itās not april, it doesnāt look like winter yet so itās unlikely that heās already 18). utahime is 20 because it is past february. she is a 2nd grade sorcerer at the age of 20. thatās not bad at all!
chapter 65 introduces young utahime and mei on a mission together within a cursed site. in real time, theyāve been gone for two days which is a cause of concern for gojo, shoko, and geto because the two havenāt contacted anyone since the beginning of their mission. Ā the two begin to suspect something is wrong because the hallway markers theyāve set in place disappeared, and no matter how far they travel within the halls, the end is nowhere in sight. Ā mei theorizes that the cursed spirit is overlapping the space as they travel forward. Ā utahime agrees with this speculation and proposes a plan to escape the cursed spiritās grasp by moving erratically. Ā notice how she says that if one of them should escape, they can try to attack from the outside or call for help. Ā if utahime was not capable of inflicting damage on anything then she would have told mei to escape and attack if she can while she waited to be rescued. Ā however, she didnāt. Ā she included herself in the sentence which leads me to believe that she is capable of going on the offense if needed. Ā
keep in mind that at this point in time, mei is a grade 1 sorcerer. Ā she is knowledgeable about all things involving jujutsu because she is experienced and skillful. Ā we can see this aspect of her character illustrated when she theorizes that the cursed spirit is messing with the space theyāre in. Ā she chooses to go with utahimeās plan because she agrees that itās the best action moving forward. Ā this verifies that utahime is an intelligent girl thatās able to get along with pretty much anyone. Ā
her intellect is demonstrated once again in chapter 79. Ā she was able to deduce the possibility of there being more than one traitor and the fact that one is probably a higher up. Ā she also narrowed down the mechamaru as the mole of kyoto not because he was acting suspicious but by process of elimination. Ā she thought thoroughly of his technique and how easy it would be for him to manipulate devices small enough to be undetectable. Ā
sure you can argue that she should already know all her studentsā abilities and whatnot but you have to admit that itās hard trying to sniff out the traitor when no one is acting suspicious. Ā in addition to that, how did she know that there was a traitor in the top brass? Ā i would have never guessed that tbh LOL (maybe bc im an idiot).
okay, now that we have established that sheās intelligent, letās answer a more important question. Ā is utahime weak?
chapter 33
if gojo calls utahime weak, does that mean there is some truth to it? Ā well it is true that she is weaker than him because heās the strongest and all. Ā in my opinion, heās just teasing her. Ā he probably found that calling her weak is what really riles her up. Ā maybe iāll talk about why he loves teasing her so much in a later post. Ā but anyway, gojo calls everybody and their mom weak. Ā he even said jogo was weak and we know how powerful that guy is. Ā gojoās words alone do not indicate much about utahimeās power. Ā in fact, i donāt even think he has seen her use her technique yet. Ā heās probably only ever heard of how it works. Ā this is what i think their conversation about her technique was like:
gojo: hm?Ā ur cursed technique is singing? Ā can u show me?
utahime: what! Ā no way! Ā
gojo: why not?
*one of the classmates tells him that she can only use her CT once in a while because it consumes a lot of energy*
gojo: hahaha! Ā u have to conserve cursed energy to use ur CT? Ā why are u so weak, utahime?
utahime: i! Ā am! Ā your! Ā senpai! Ā respect! Ā me!
what iām trying to say is that gojo loves poking fun of people. Ā we should not believe him when he calls someone weak because compared to him, everyone is weak. Ā
this is a little off topic but letās examine him telling her, āand you donāt have the nerves, utahime.ā Ā i think heās trying to say that thereās no way sheāll ever do something like that because sheās not the type to put her students in danger. Ā remember the soft expression and relieved smile on her lips when she said that she was glad the students were safe after the kyoto incident? Ā gojo was directly in front of her so not only did he hear her say that, but he could have seen the look on her face too. Ā even if he told her that she didnāt have the guts to betray the school to get on her nerves, he knew that utahime simply cared too much about the students so he ruled her out as a suspect right away. Ā this is why he ultimately decided to confide in her and ask her to help him. Ā
iām a person who loves over-analyzing things. Ā i really enjoy the dynamic between gojo and utahime. Ā theyāve known each other for more than 11 years and although they always bicker, there is an unspoken feeling of trust between the two. Ā gojo can do anything and everything by himself because he is truly the strongest person alive, but he still knows when to rely on others. Ā him deciding to entrust utahime with such a job implies that he believes in utahimeās abilities.
chapter 52
sheās not using any cursed energy here--not to our knowledge at least. Ā this is just pure skill. Ā she was able to swiftly evade the swing from haruta. Ā he was surprised himself considering the fact that he was right behind her. Ā how do we know her CT isnāt speed? Ā after haruta swung at her, we can see that some of her hair got cut off. Ā if she was using her CT then speed should be her specialty. Ā she should have been able to completely avoid the attack altogether but she didnāt. Ā of course this isnāt a wow moment because jujutsu sorcerers should know how to dodge attacks, however, iām just trying to get the point across that sheās not a defenseless person without her technique or others. Ā letās not forget that semi-grade 1 isnāt a weak rank either. Ā you canāt simply be recommended to be a grade 1 sorcerer if you only can support others. Ā
chapter 48
i want to bring up this panel. it suggests that utahime and takuma are sorcerers who have not experienced black flash and therefore, do not understand the essence of cursed energy as well as those who have like gojo and nanami. Ā i find it strange how takuma and utahime were used to represent sorcerers who havenāt experienced it yet. Ā is the purpose to demonstrate that there is a clear difference in skill between adult sorcerers like utahime and takuma compared to gojo and nanami? Ā i could be nitpicking but the order of todoās statement doesnāt line up with the sorcerers being shown. Ā let me explain in depth. Ā todo starts off by saying, āfor those who have experienced black flash as compared to those who have not...ā wouldnāt it make more sense to show gojo and nanami on the right side to represent sorcerers who have experienced black flash? Ā that was mentioned first, after all. Ā gojo and nanami should appear when todo says āfor those who have experience black flashā while utahime and takuma should be shown right after to personify the second part, āas compared to those who have not.ā Ā iām just making it more complicated than it actually is LOLOL iām sure it really just means they havenāt experienced black flash yet, which is completely fine. Ā i also find it fascinating how they used utahime to contrast gojo. Ā with nanami and takuma it makes sense. Ā nanami is someone takuma looks up to, he wants to gain nanamiās approval before he deems himself worthy of a promotion. what about utahime and gojo? Ā whatās the purpose of comparing those two together when itās obvious that gojo knows more about the essence of cursed energy more than anyone else? Ā i might be delusional whoops
----
let me know what you guys think? Ā this is only a part 1 so i havenāt gotten around to answering the question. Ā iām pretty much done with the second part, i just need to revise it a little. Ā i think after i post part 2, iāll try to interpret all the gojo and utahime moments in the manga >.<

Uta: this is Gojo, my ex-boyfriend. Gojo: I told you to stop introducing me like that. Gojo: I'm her husband š
HEHE when i first read this request, this panel popped right in my headā¦uwu
Also, in Japanese culture, the pattern used in the cover of JJK chapter 34, Yagasuri (arrow feathers) is used in weddings for good luck. Some also believe that contrary to the normal vertical pattern of Yagasuri, the horizontal pattern used signifies the direction of affection from Gojo to Uta (but it isnt returned). read more here
