Though he was thankful it was not a human muddling with his affairs tonight, he’s still rather disgruntled - as it seemed no matter what hour it was, there was always something always about - some entity always happening to be present and disrupting his evening. Then again, perhaps it was foolish of him to expect any sort of peace in this existence of his - after all, it’s not like he wanted to be creeping around a graveyard past midnight. But his persistent hunger was relentless, his reason long gone as animalistic instincts urged him to satiate his appetite (though he was aware, no such thing would ever occur).

He takes a moment to identify the other’s scent, a small grimace evoked as his gaze drifts elsewhere - disinterested. Human or yokai - it made no difference in how receptive he would be. He preferred to be alone.

“Take a guess.” comes his quiet response, tone flat despite and seemingly devoid of any particular emotion despite its clear sarcastic connotation. “I heard this is the only few places in the area where there is a practicing Nōkanshi. Is that true?” 

If so, it would save him a lot of time, money and having to go out of his way to bribe any officials - as it was much easy to snatch a corpse that was unburied. Nonetheless, it was an ugly ordeal - this condition of his. Oh how he hated it. 

            he squints at the first reply ,  rather annoyed and ready to leave the man to himself until he hears his question .  it takes him a few seconds to piece it together ,  but upon the other’s request his true nature becomes clear .  the idea of the man feasting on a dead body doesn’t sit well with him ,  but he supposes that’s better than causing trouble with the living .

           kohaku scoffs ,  deciding to return the favor ,  ‘ because a yokai would enjoy spending his time near a buddhist rite , ’  arms crossed ,  he stares at the other ;  it was well known that creatures like him despised it .  prayers and chants made the back of his hair stand up ,  so he tries to stay away from them .

           ‘ there’s one a few blocks from here ,  though . ’

     “ eh? “ a confused face as he stared at the other, then at his own hand. was there something wrong with it? or was there something wrong with himself? he wasn’t sure exactly. “ was i too forward possibly? i just wanted to get a big string off your shirt.. it’s stuck to the back and i didn’t think you had noticed yet. “ he pointed at the other’s back.

       a grunt  —  the other looks way too affected by his response .  ‘ you’re wet  —  i don’t want my clothes to get damp , ’  he clarifies ,  pointing at his hands as if they were covered in some disgusting substance ,  ‘ i’ll do it myself . ’  

        and he tries ,  but it seems like he cannot reach ;  his face contorts into a scowl ,  irritated and embarrassed at his own failure ,  ‘ ugh  —  ’

i saw someone mentioning that cats actually understand what head kisses mean and that they probably think they are nice so. guess which yokai enjoys them very much? yes, him.

       ‘ don’t touch me , ’  the yokai moves back on a reflex ,  nose scrunching at the sight of the wet boy  ---  he’d like to avoid getting any water on himself ,  thank you .  he can’t exactly pinpoint whatever creature he is ,  but his smell reminds him of seafood ,  which in turn makes his stomach growl ,  to his embarrassment  ( dammit ) .

         a sleepy eye opens upon catching an interesting scent ;  faint but undoubtedly present ,  the smell of a living dead lingers in the chilly evening air .  the cat lazily stretches ,  making sure there’s no other people around the graveyard before taking a human form and silently approaching the creature  ---  the spirits of those who come back from the dead tend to be chaotic ,  so he’d rather make sure the other is not here to cause trouble .
