THE FOOD GUIDE PYRAMID
My pyramid is a plan from the U.S department of Agriculture designed in the year 2005 to help people choose the foods and amount that are right ,to balance with their daily physical activity .
My pyramid is meant for any healthy person.
From a broad base ,the design narrows progressively towards the top. IN the pyramid, the hierarchy and daily servings of the six food groups are as follows:
Six to eleven servings of bread, cereal and pasta .
Three to five servings of vegetables.
Two to four servings of fruits.
Two to three servings of milk, yogurt and cheese
Two to three servings of meat,poultry,fish,beans, eggs and nuts
At the apex of the pyramid and occupying the smallest space are the fats, oils and sweets which are to be used sparingly .

The following points are emphasized in MYPYRAMID
BE ACTIVE - be physically active everyday to be fit
VARY YOUR CHOICES - For health, it is essential to consume a variety among and within these groups to get the array of nutrients needed by the body. No one food or food group supplies all the nutrients, fiber and other substances the body needs. besides, variety adds flavours,interest and pleasure to eating .
THINK IN PROPORTIONS : the food - group bands differ in width, reminding consumers to eat more of some types of foods than others. these widths are just estimates and not specifically the amount that is right for a person.
CUSTOMIZE - MYPYRAMID is available for kids and also for vegetarians. they can be used according to a person's need.
IMPROVE GRADUALLY - Small steps should be taken towards healthier eating and active living. small steps add up to big benefits.
