Disney+ has many great series and full length docs
Meet the Chimps (very cute series that focuses on chimps living in a sanctuary. Chimp Haven is accredited and sets the standard for other sanctuaries that house chimps. One of my personal favorite primate docs)
Chimpanzee (Cute story about a young wild chimp. Some anthropomorphic language though. This is when one projects human emotions or reasoning onto animals. This is a pattern with Disney docs. Not entirely harmful just know we cannot know what an animal is thinking or feeling beyond their body language.)
Monkey Kingdom ( This documentary also uses anthropomorphic language. The same troupe is featured in Smithsonian's Monkey Island on Hulu+live Tv I have not watched this one)
Kingdom of the Apes
And many other behind the scenes at zoos, animal rescue organizations, multiple docs on Jane Goodall
Netflix:
Growing Up Wild
Expedition China
DO NOT WATCH/SUPPORT Tiny Creatures. The making of this put small animals in dangerous conditions. Plenty of resources for this online.
Honorable mention for Penguin Town. No primates but it was delightful.
Zoo and Sanctuary Social Media is a great place to see videos and pictures of properly cared for animals. Just make sure you are following/supporting reputable facilities. Here's a list of some pages to follow:
Sanctuaries:
Born Free USA
IPPL
Peaceable Primate Sanctuary
Pacific Primate Sanctuary Inc
Black Beauty Ranch
Primarily Primates
Squirrel Monkey Haven
Center for Great Apes
Koremonde Capuchin Rescue
NAPSA is the North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance and they share content from their accredited sanctuaries.
As for zoos, your local AZA accredited zoo would be safe to support. Zoos without AZA accreditation should be vetted before sharing their content.
Be very careful when consuming primate content on TikTok or YouTube. These platforms are flooded with exotic pet owners and problematic facilities/rescuers. Giving these people views funds their projects/exotic pet habits. Just click away and do not share.
