Appealing to non-disabled people by telling them accessibility helps them too does not work because there is nothing a non-disabled person hates more than even a perceived proximity to disability. Non-disabled people will choose doing things the hard way every single time purely out of ableist spite.

Speaking more on 2017 Tumblr discourse, it was 'activism' that was heavily centered on performance, either of an identity or of suffering, while providing neither support or care for the identities that were being discussed. This kind of discourse isn't that popular on here anymore (not that I've noticed anyway) but that kind of unkind care(less) vibe is still present in leftist spaces.

I think that leftists are used to being the "right" person in the room so to speak, so when they are called to the table by others it's not taken well. Nobody wants to be the harm doer so we deflect deflect deflect until the very power dynamics that we were presented concern about are suddenly on full display.

It brings the question of why waste time discussing things with people who have no interest in changing and seeing the violence in their actions when we could just leave them behind so that we could safely care for others. Idk.
