Käsespätzle, the German version of Mac'n'Cheese, with caramelized red onions. It was basically a test to see how much cheese I could put in there before it became too much. The answer is “a lot”.

This was something that I literally cobbled together from things we still had in the fridge. It’s pre-made pizza dough with tomato, corn, red onions and sausage. Pizza meets Hot Dog! And it was very delicious. Even my flatmate, who had already had lunch, still ate two slices.

My family’s Christmas dinner this year. We got a big piece of deer from a nearby farm, put it into a mixture of butter milk and wine with herbs overnight and today we cooked it inside a crust of salt. It was really tasty, very flavourful and not at all dry. We even have some left, so we can eat it again :)

My mum has a secret recipe for Apfelnudeln, which is dough filled with apple pieces. Hers are so fluffy and juicy and just to die for. I tried to replicate them, but I didn't get them quite right. Still, they turned out pretty good and my flatmate was very happy ;)

I felt compelled to go into full housewife mode and make a fancy apple pie. With apples from the garden of my flatmate’s parents and lots of cinnamon. We invited a friend and ate almost all of it in one sitting ;) It was so good, especially still warm out of the oven.

This is one of my favourite recipes, although the first time I made it I just kinda threw things together. It’s a quiche with homemade pie crust and a filling of bacon, red onions, crème fraiche, honey and goat cheese. The honey and goat cheese really give it that something special and it’s the perfect food for crisp autumn evenings.

A few weeks ago I got the sudden urge to make stew, so we made a small fire in our garden and put on the kettle. There was a load of vegetables and meat in it and it took almost three hours to cook. But it was totally worth it, it was so delicious. And though it was a huge pot, it was all gone afterwards.

Occasionally I have a craving for waffles and chocolate, so I made these dark chocolate cake waffles with chocolate sauce and sprinkles. I ate them in place of dinner and it was totally worth it :D

Being home alone doesn’t stop me from cooking fancy things. So I made marinated chicken thighs, potato waffles and caramelized garlic and spring onions.

I used this recipe, just swabbed the pepperoni for bacon. An instant favourite, super easy and tasty. Bacon and cheese is always a good combination :)

To celebrate the end of another semester at uni, my flatmate and I had a big brunch the other day. We made baked beans from scratch, fried bacon and eggs and for afterwards we made apple rings baked in dough decorated with fresh fruit. We can’t wait for the next semester to celebrate again ;)

Whenever I feel very homesick for Wales, where I spent a semester to study, I make steak-and-ale pie. It’s quite hearty and takes a bit of time, but it’s totally worth it.

My flat mate and I decided to have a fancy dinner, so we made bagels with vegetable patties, goat creme cheese and caramelized spring onions, served with orange-and-red-onion salad and quinoa salad. Suffice to say, we were very happy campers that evening ;)

I had some left-over coconut milk, but no eggs, so I made vegan coconut  pancake scramble with caramelized apples.

My sister, who is a vegetarian, was visiting me so I had a reason to try this Indian vegetarian curry. I used barbcue cheese instead of Paneer, but it still came out delicious :D

I tried my hand at this and it’s really yummy. Had to make do without the cheese curds, since you can’t find them in Germany, so I just used normal grated cheese.
