‼️FINAL DAY of pre-orders‼️
We've reached our funding goal, but there’s still time for a few more. Pre-orders will close at 11:59pm EST. Don't miss out!
Hey all, it’s been a while! Sorry for the radio silence. Our head mod had to step down, and I (Jay) have taken over. We’ve managed to get things back up and running, and the project is now live on BigCartel! Unfortunately I haven’t been able to share news here until now, so there’s only just over 10 days remaining for pre-orders, but there is still time, and we’re a little over halfway to our funding goal! Pre-orders will close on December 1st at 11:59pm. We have had to drop stretch goals for now, but we hope you will still enjoy the deck!

whats going to happen to the money that was spent on indiegogo? Are we going to get it back via refund or just rebuy it entirely on big cartel?
You will receive a refund from Indiegogo and have to rebuy it via Big Cartel. Unfortunately, we have no control over when Indiegogo will be providing those refunds, but we haven’t received any money from them. Because our project was a fixed goal, the only way we would get anything financially was if we reached our funding goal.
Since the project was shut down, we also have limited access to the information of Indiegogo backers in order to contact them about needing to repurchase on Big Cartel. On our side of things, Indiegogo explained that they had resolved the issue with the campaign by shutting it down, so any delays in getting your money back are definitely on their end.
We also want to take a second to apologize on the delay of the Big Cartel site! The Indiegogo shutdown was a huge setback and took a toll on both our timeline and our team. It also happened at a very busy transitive period for us in our personal lives, so we haven’t had as much time to work on it and get back on track timeline-wise as we would like. We promise everything is coming soon!

Any updates?
Yes! After quite a bit of back and forth with Indiegogo, they won’t remove our project from review so we can no longer host the project through them. Instead, we’re currently in the process of setting up a shop through Big Cartel. There will be some adjustments made to the preorder process that we will go over in more detail once we’re ready to release it, but we’re definitely still on!

By "a random company in texas" do you mean Remove Your Media LLC, Viz Media's authorized agent for US-based IP violations? Viz Media is well known for their flood of DMCA takedown notices and it has nothing to do with how much or how little money a project makes. If it's an IP violation and commercialized for profit, Viz or their agent will make you shut it down.
That is indeed the one; we're currently trying to sort out the "for profit" aspect of it with Indiegogo; the people making this project aren't making any money off of it (we're actually more likely to be making this project at a deficit, depending on what the end result is), as the costs are solely going toward contributing artists and production costs. Our work is also technically protected under "transformative work," so we are hoping that will be enough to get the campaign back up.

If this project was flagged by VIZ Media for copyright infringement, how is that something that can be fixed? Will we get our money back?
Our project is considered protected as it is "transformative artwork," i.e. we aren't using any official artwork trademarked by VIZ themselves. For example, we can use the Konoha symbol as long as it's not the official vector of the Konoha symbol, but redrawn by whomever is using it.
These things happen all the time to fan projects, and usually there is a third-party company working on behalf of the larger corporation; VIZ themselves were not the ones to flag us (our language in the original post may have been slightly misleading), but a random company in Texas. So, essentially, when we appeal it, if we provide them with proof of the work being transformative and, additionally, let them know this project is not ongoing and is a made-to-order, limited run project, we should be able to get it up and running again. A lot of the time, these things are done by middlemen as a scare tactic to get the project to halt, but we know our rights.
We have not received any money from Indiegogo and will not until the campaign is over, so if they remove the campaign entirely, you will receive a refund -- just like you would if we didn't reach our campaign goal. It's one of the reasons we had a fixed goal; with a flexible goal, we would be able to keep whatever we made, but we wanted to make sure people would get their money back if, for whatever reason, we couldn't make the deck!
That said, IF we cannot get the Indiegogo project back up, we will be setting up a website (most likely through bigcartel) to continue the run ourselves. We'll reach out to everyone who backed us on Indiegogo to let them know they can repurchase there and will reset the preorder calendar to make sure others interested have enough time to order, too, since we lost some time on the campaign.
A couple of things may change when moving (such as how long the preorder period takes, as we may need to extend it until we reach a certain financial threshold as opposed to a specific order count), but that will be addressed in more detail if the move becomes necessary.

Hi, everyone. Some of you may have noticed that our Indiegogo page is currently offline. We were flagged by VIZ because the project made over a certain threshold (enough to get their attention), but we are working on getting it back up as soon as possible.
We are also currently working on other options in the worst case scenario that we cannot get the campaign back up, but we are anticipating being able to do so without issue. If you have any further questions, please feel free to message us!

Hello 👋
Will there be overseas shipping for the decks?
Hey there! Yes! We are charging a flat rate for everyone, domestic and international, that is averaged in such a way that we will be able to make sure shipping is covered for everyone. It's not included in the price of the deck itself, but is added upon checking out with Indiegogo.
Provided there aren't any COVID-19 related shipping embargoes that are imposed before we are shipping out, we aren't anticipating not being able to ship to one specific country. If a delay like that does happen, we'll definitely be updating our backers ASAP.

NARUTAROT IS NOW LIVE ON INDIEGOGO!
Our campaign goal is $7,000. This amount will cover production and paying our 53 amazing artists a fair price for their work. Any profit beyond our goal will be used for our stretch goal perks, with the rest divided among the artists.
The past two and a half months have been a complete whirlwind, and we want to thank everyone who has participated, applied, boosted, and followed us on this journey. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
To read more about our campaign, the product, and our stretch goals, please check out our campaign page here.

Have you considered the price of shipping not only out to customers, but from the publisher to you? Will contributors get a free deck and merch for their work? will artists hold the copyrights to their art works beyond this project. You won't make extra money selling prints or merchandise for your own profit later?
yep! customers will be responsible for the shipping of the decks from us to them, and we’ve factored the cost of the shipping to us as part of the overall price of the deck.
contributors will be receiving free decks and merch (should we end up deciding to do merch) for participating. they also have the rights to their work outside of its use in this deck, and can do with it whatever they please. we have no plans to sell anything outside of the deck (and potential merch going along with it as stretch goals in the campaign) at any point, barring if we end up doing another round of deck sales — if that is the case, we will be splitting those funds between participants the same way we will for the original campaign, as it will include everyone who is participating.

calling all naruto artists out there: if you're interested in being part of a fan-made tarot card deck, consider applying to narutarot!
applications to be part of the project are now open. for more information, send us an ask or dm, visit the twitter, join our discord server, or go directly to the app; there's also an applicant FAQ under the cut. apps close february 13th.
if you're interested in purchasing, narutarot will be available for pre-order in may!
how many cards will be in the deck? are the minor arcana stretch goals, or will they be filled from the start?
the plan is for all 78 cards to be accounted for when we begin production, which means all major and minor arcana cards will be a part of the deck. while it's not uncommon for people to do readings using only the major arcana, we want everyone to have the full deck experience.
how are artists chosen for specific cards?
there are a few ways artists are assigned to cards. because we want to give everyone an opportunity to potentially draw their favorite characters, our application allows each artist to list their top three characters and as many runner-ups as they want. the goal is to give everyone someone in their top three, however, due to the popularity of some characters, this won't be possible. as much as i, personally, would love to see a 78 card kakashi tarot deck, it's... somewhat limiting. the more popular the character, the bigger the application pool for said character will be, so the more obscure you go, the more likely you are to get your desired character. if you have runner-up options, too, it widens the pool for who you could be asked to do. artists will be chosen objectively based on application. depending on how many applications there are and each artist's individual character pool, some artists who said they would be willing to do two may only be asked to do one. if you offered to do two cards, only one of them can be from the major arcana, so make sure you provide options for both.
when will i know what card i've been assigned?
applications close at 11:59pm EST on february 12. all applicants will receive a message on february 13, whether or not they have been assigned a card (or two). artists who are chosen for the project will have one week to confirm their participation. if they do not confirm by february 20th, a new artist will be chosen. card assignments will not be discussed before applications close.
will there be other merch?
maybe! this completely depends on the amount of interest we have in the project, and we won't offer it until we have a significant amount. however, if enough people ask, we may offer bundles with keychains/bookmarks/maybe even an enamel pin (!), but that all remains to be seen as of right now.
will there be a kickstarter?
no. fuck NFTs.
is it okay if i don't know anything about tarot?
absolutely! you don't need to know much to be a part of this project, but this is a great way to learn. if you only want to draw your card, you're free to do so! for those of you looking to get into tarot or if you're already an experienced reader, plenty of resources, instruction, and inspiration will be provided.
what is the timeline for the project?
as of right now (january 5, 2022), the timeline is as follows: – january 5: artist applications open – february 13: artist applications close – february 20: artist confirmation deadline – march 6: withdrawal grace period ends – april 17: final pieces are due – may 1: preorders open – june 12: preorders close this schedule is subject to change due to a number of factors, but we are expecting more issues to arise on the back end of this when it comes to dealing with distributors/shipping times/etc than we are with the timeline for our artists! if you have a scheduling problem, please do not hesitate to reach out to a project coordinator and they will assist you.
is it paid?
100% yes. the plan is to mark up the decks by a certain percentage in order to make sure every artist is compensated for their work. amount of compensation will be divided based on how many artists are part of the project, whether an artist did one or two cards, if they helped design the frames/card backs, etc. we don't know how much it will be per artist until we are finished with preorders, but everyone will be getting something.
will i get a free deck?
hopefully. whether or not we can provide all of our artists with a free deck is going to depend on how many preorders we get, as distributing free decks will bring down everyone's overall payment. that being said, the plan is to make sure everyone gets one; if it doesn't end up being free (which it most likely will), all artists will be able to purchase their deck –– or any additional decks –– at the manufacturing price.

we've got just under one week until applications for the narutarot are closed! by this time next sunday, our artists will begin receiving their card assignments and the design process will start. we're so excited to get to work on the next phase of this project; we've received over eighty applications from so many wonderful artists and it has been such a pleasure getting to look at everyone's art during this process.
as a reminder, if you're still planning on applying (please do! it's not too late! check out our application walkthrough to help you through the process!), these are some of the characters we would love to see a little more interest in as we close in on our final week:
raikage (A)
tsuchikage (onoki)
kinkaku/ginkaku
hyuga hiashi
for those of you who have already applied and offered to do multiple/a wide range of characters, some of you will be hearing from us regarding potentially taking some of these choices, so be on a lookout for a dm from us before the end of the week!
thank you all for your interest, applications, and boosting of this project! we can't wait to get it into your hands in just a few months!

Do you have a tarot manufacturer lined up? A lot of manufacturers have a MOQ of 300-500
right now, our plan is to go with boardgamesmaker, who also have the specifications we're looking for for the deck itself; their moq is basically anywhere from 1-15,000 with manufacturing prices scaling down the larger the order. i can't imagine us going beyond the outside of that range, so unless we find another manufacturer in the time leading up to the campaign itself that somehow better suits our needs, that is who we'll be going with.
