I'm pretty sure every time Edelgard shows up in Heroes I dislike just a little bit more. Like, in the winter set she's got a voice line where she say's "It'd be nice to have just one day not thinking about battle." Like this imperialist pigdog wasn't the main instigator of a war to conquer two countries that have both fought for their independence.

And of course she ate my first five-star in this banner in this banner. I've got every Edel except for her Legendary alt, and outside of Fallen, I've never try to pull for her. She just shows up.

Also, why is Yunaka here? Like, don't get me wrong I love the meme queen, but boy she feels super out of place here.

I hope that in future Xeno games they trim down the sidequests, because there’s so many of them and a lot of them just suck. I don’t mean ascension quests, or rare blade quests, but things like, “Oh, finglelgnif the Nopon lost 15 marbles, go find them and bring them all back for an accessory you’re never going to use.” They’re by far the weakest parts of the games and don’t really add anything.

NGL, after beating Xenoblade 3 and getting to Chapter 4 of Future Redeemed, my sympathy well for N is pretty fucking dried up. I’m glad he got giga-cucked.

I ain’t gonna lie, I forgot how completely unsettling December is in P4. The music being this oppressive droning rather than Japan’s top 40 pop songs, how batshit psychotic people are acting, people just collapsing in the streets, shit’s fucked up.

... Why the fuck doesn’t Roy have a battle convo with Hector? Like, obviously it’s not FE6 Hector, but come on now, not even Hector mistaking him as Eliwood or something?

Just beat Engage and have some thoughts. 

Pros: 

-The gameplay and maps are fantastic, such a good step away from 3H’s Wyvern spam for your units, and overall meh map designs. 

-The characters, while mostly pretty shallow, are still fun for me. Standouts include: Yunaka, Alcryst, Ivy, and Celine when she’s not talking about tea. 

-Music’s fantastic, as per usual. All the trial paralogue songs are great remixes. and Brodia and Solm’s battle themes in particular are real good.

Cons:

-The story’s... fine, I guess. It’s very by the books, bog standard which can be disappointing to those coming off of 3H’s more nuanced and gray story (minus TWISTD of course). I will say, it picks up steam after chapter 10, but even still it’s never great, just servicable.

-Unit balance is weird, especially on Maddening mode. The early game units have such a hard time keeping up with units you get later that it’s hard to justify using them. The easiest example I can think of for this is poor Lapis. Not only is she already competing against your Alear for sword user, but Diamant is introduced in literally the very next chapter, and two chapters after that you get Kagetsu.

-Lack of shared endings for non S-supported units fucking sucks dude. Hopefully they add this later on in an update, but as of right now it’s pretty sad that the relationships I spent the whole game building up don’t lead to anything.

My final team was: Alear (Byleth), Framme (Micaiah), Louis (Sigurd), Chloe (Roy), Yunaka (Corrin), Ivy (Lyn), Fogato (Leif), Timmera (Ike),  Anna (Lucina), Pendreo, the last two characters (Marth on V), Seadall (Celica), and Mirran (Eirika).

God damn, they make you work for that S-support in Engage. I don’t even want to think about that map on Maddening.

Also, got my first wake up animation, and boy howdy Rosado’s pretty.

The most basic summary of Engage that I’ve got is “Local god with mommy issues steals everyone’s livestock and pets, more news at 11.” And I vibe with that tbh.

It’d be cool that if, after you beat the game, Nemona hit you with, “Alrighty, now that we’re true and equal rival champions why don’t I use my real team?” and just busts out a competitive team of complete monsters with perfect EV/IV’s and movesets.

it’d also be a nice introduction to a battle tower/frontier/tree/whatever, but no we gotta get rid of features that people actually enjoy.

Because the players weren’t aware of the second moon until C2, I like to think that Percy’s like, “We have a second moon?!”
