The thing about Kipperlilly Copperkettle to me, is this. If you’ve ever been an emotionally neglected child, or a child that struggles significantly with mental health but is able to keep up a facade of normalcy, you often start to wish you had ‘real problems’ to justify the emotional turmoil that you’re in, or to receive adult validation and support. If I was really struggling, someone would notice. Someone would help.
Imagine being 14 years old. A freshman in high school. You are lost and you are angry and you may or may not be receiving any care or attention at home. Your grades are perfect, but you’re still not receiving the validation you so desperately crave. And you see him. The boy in your class, the only one on your academic level. And he is getting that recognition. And his problems are like ‘this giant dragon killed my dad’ and the solution is ‘I’m going to tear it up with my teeth’ and everyone applauds and affirms him as he destroys the thing destroying him
But you’re struggling, too. You want to tear with your teeth, you itch for the feeling of blood hot in your mouth. You are so angry. Your problems aren’t anything you can bite into. You are the problem. You’re 14. You’re so angry your skin feels too tight and no one sees and no one cares.
And then an all powerful force, a g-d dead and buried, kills you and all your friends. And she says…your problem, it can be a solution. It can save your friends. Come back. Come back to me. Tear with your teeth. Lie and cheat and steal and kill and be enough. Be enough because you’re angry. You’re 16 years old. You take the deal.

it really does drive me crazy trying to interact with any of the popular fantasy high posts on here. because people will say with their whole chest they hate and have got no sympathy for the rat grinders and that a) jawbone should've punched kipperlilly for coming to him with her Undiagnosed Mental Health Issues (you know, like the ones adaine used to have in freshman year?) b) the bad kids should take them all someplace to 6v1 them one by one and cold blooded murder them (??????) c) whole heartedly hate and make fun of them for being scared and alone and dead when they went on an adventure with a teacher and adult who was supposed to PROTECT them in a place they weren't prepared for.
the rat grinders were just. normal students. they are more like you than you could ever be like the bad kids. they were mid & they didn't want to be so they pushed themselves too fast too far and now all of them have got the worst survivor's guilt on earth on top of actively having to serve the rage incarnation of a dead god.
if you have the cognitive dissonance where one of the bad kids was in the plot line and you'd be drawing fanart making angsty meta crying about your poor baby forced into a bad situation and turn around and go 'lol nah shoot THESE guys in the head though' when it's an NPC I can only assume you've not understood narrative parallels or learned empathy past, like, a kindergarten level

ACTUALLY Laerryn's actions in episode 2 are not at all condemnable because they're the high fantasy equivalent of like. You've finished your super cool piece of code and it's actually passed all its unit tests this time, but when you try to run your first integration tests then it all works perfectly except it slows your system to a crawl. So you (a non-habitual Windows user) grudgingly open up task manager and see that some unrelated system file with all numbers in the name and a file extension you don't recognise is taking up a huge amount of your CPU and memory. You Google it and get no clear documentation, and so you check Stack Exchange and there's like 2 answers saying "don't uninstall this" with no good explanation. So you're like "well how bad can it be" and you kill the process, and your code starts running perfectly! You tell your friends about it! It's great! Then you find an ancient forum post that's like "hey don't do this it will brick your computer, here's why" and you find out the file you stopped running was actually a crucial, load-bearing component of your antivirus software
Anyway, the moral of Calamity is that you should be running your flying cities on Linux. What was I saying

I love how unsympathetic Kipperlily's backstory comes across, because like yes, the desire to be more "interesting" through trauma like Riz is awful, but also its her most private bad thought that she only shares with her guidance counsellor while trying to work through her rage issues, its selfish and in bad taste but of course it is, she was like 14. And so now that that desire has been twisted by literal deific rage into something actually malevolent, none of the bad kids are even willing to try to empathize with her. And like, tbc I don't really blame them for that, its a *lot* to ask them to try and understand the person who has been antagonistic to them for the whole year and apparently resented them for years before that, which I think honestly adds to the tragedy of it all. God, she's so interesting

It’s so interesting and tragic that it is the violation of her mind- the memory wiping, the compulsion, the enchantment- that Suvi wants to (but chooses not to) resist. The plan is incredibly risky, insanely dangerous, and could easily result in Suvi’s violent death (or worse) at the hands of the most powerful witches in the world of it were to be found out by their divinations, but that does not bother Suvi. Laying down her life, her body, putting herself in harm’s way for the Empire, it comes naturally to her now. She has risked herself before and she will do it again. But her mind, her thoughts, her calculations, this is something most sacred to her, the thing she prides herself on. It’s what connects her to her parents, it’s what proves that she is a Citadel Wizard by merit rather than name. I really think that losing herself, losing a piece of her mind in this way, to memory loss, to compulsion, is the only thing (besides maybe Ame and Eursulon) that she finds hard to give up to the Imperium. So she resists, pulls back a slight bit, but not enough to be caught disobeying. And I wonder how she will feel about this event if she finds out prior to the planned explanation with Steel, like if young Yulia calls back to explain she sent a letter that Suvi has no recollection of requesting

The words "at any cost" really changed how I felt about that compulsion. Like yes, you asked for consent, but??? THERE COULD BE A LOT OF COST

Relentless direct action has secured another victory in the fight against Israel’s arms trade, as Elbit Systems are forced to sell their ‘Elite KL’ factory in Tamworth.
The company had previously manufactured cooling and power management systems for military vehicles, but was sold on after stating that it faced falling profits and increased security costs resulting from Palestine Action’s efforts.
After the sale was completed last month, Elite KL’s new owners, listed as Griffin Newco Ltd, confirmed in an email to Palestine Action that they will have nothing to do with the previous owners, Elbit, and have discontinued any arms manufacturing:
“Following the recent acquisition of Elite KL Limited by a UK investment syndicate, the newly appointed board has unanimously agreed to withdraw from all future defence contracts and terminate its association with its former parent company”.
This victory is a direct result of sustained direct action which has sought, throughout Palestine Action’s existence, to make it impossible for Elbit to afford to operate in Britain. Before they sold the enterprise to a private equity syndicate, Elbit had reported that Elite KL operating profits had been slashed by over three-quarters, with Palestine Action responsible: Elbit directly cited the increased expenditure on security they’d been forced to make, and higher supply chain costs they faced.
And these actions did, indeed, cost them. The first action at the site, in November 2020, saw Elite KL’s premises smashed into, the building covered in blood-red paint. Between March and July 2021, the site was put out of action three times by roof-top occupations – drenched red in March 2021, with the factory’s camera systems dismantled, before again being occupied in in May. Another roof-top occupation in July, despite increased security, saw the site forced closed – once again painted blood-red, and with its windows and fixings smashed through.
In February 2022, activists decommissioned the site for weeks – closed off after an occupation that saw over £250,000 of damages caused, the roof tiles removed one-by-one. After this, Elbit erected a security perimeter around the site – but to no avail. One month later, six were arrested after Palestine Action returned to Tamworth – again taking the roof and smashing through, preventing the production of parts for Israel’s military machine.
Elite KL is a ‘specialist thermal management business’. Since the sale, the company focuses on cooling systems for buses and trains, but it had, under Elbit, manufactured these systems for military vehicles. Until December of last year, Elite KL’s website was advertising its military and defence products, and it was known to provide parts for Israel’s deadly Merkava tanks, with export license records demonstrating its provision of ‘ML6a’ components for military ground vehicles to Israel. The company was also known to manufacture crew cooling systems, for the military vests of tank operators.
Elbit Systems itself provides 85% of the drones and land-based military equipment for the Israeli military, along with a wide range of the munitions and armaments currently being used against Gaza’s beseiged population. Its CEO, Bazhalel Machlis, has claimed that the Israeli military has offered the company its thanks for their “crucial” services during the ongoing genocide in Gaza
A Palestine Action spokesperson has stated:
“Each activist who occupied and dismantled Tamworth’s Israeli weapons factory did so in order to bring an end to Israel’s weapons trade, and to end the profiteering from Palestinian repression. Every defeat Elbit faces is a victory for the Palestinian people.
Kicking Elbit out of Tamworth shows once again that direct action is a necessary tactic. It is one which must be utilised and amplified in the face of the Gaza genocide.”
