Bram Krennic also strongly voices his opinion that information about Inquisitor Ameridan should be shared with his Elven relations and mentions the noble family claiming relation to him as if it would be absurd to give them the information.

Most underrated character Kenric Here’s why: -Smart (seriously dude tracked down the resting place of inquisitor Ameridan basically by himself with help from Colette of course with everyone thinking he was nuts.) -got puns for days buckling down 😂🤚🏻 -Starkhaven accents I don’t even have to say anymore. -Brave he goes into creepy caves. With big ass spiders So many points for the spiders -is 100% chill with receiving information from spirits and treats spirits like people -He doesn’t say a lot of stupid stuff when he finds out the last inquisitor was an elven mage hell he is cool with it. -ya boi got tenure from that sentence alone.

Dorian runs a touch over the beard on Vaxus’ face, well-kept and peppered white. “Look what happens when I let you from my sight for a moment. You go and grow this atrocity again. Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed your years with it.” The Archon swallows thickly, voice breaking and bravado falling away. “Is this real? If it isn’t I’m going to be very cross with you, again.”

Vaxus takes Dorian’s hand into his and kisses the knuckles. “I’m here. I’m sorry it took me so long to get back to you.”

Dragon Age Inquisition - On The Crossroads

I wasn’t completely satisfied with just phone wallpaper soooo I draw a bigger version for my desktop (feel free to use it if you like it btw)

For the DADWC: A question for your Inquisitor: Had your Inquisitor ever been in love before being sent to the conclave?

Aw this was a fun one to write, I used Drysi since she very open about her love and experience. For @dadrunkwriting That is a difficult question for me. I have loved and lusted quite a bit when I was younger. I grew up in Kinloch Hold’s circle, I was very close to a certain templar stationed there.  We shared alot of secret glances and quick and heated kisses in dark corners of the tower. Before my harrowing we sneaked out to see the moonlight on the lake. It was shortly before the Templars and the Chantry tightened down the restrictions on mages.  From then on it was harder to get alone to kiss and be with each other. During the Blight I wrote him nearly daily, and when we had arrived at the circle. I feared the worst that I would fight an abomination wearing his face or a demon keeping him in an illusion. However the truth was much worse, he had been starved, and tortured by demons using my likeness. Despite all that, despite him ordering I carry out the rite of annulment, and my refusal he came and brought me down  from the harrowing chamber. We clashed in anger and hurt over what to do about the apprentices. In the end his commander sided with me. I still loved him but he was hurting and afraid of a very crucial part of me. I was not myself for some time after it. Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir; I could start in so many places about him. He holds a different kind of fondness in my heart than what Cullen had. In many ways I became the woman I am today because of his influence and affections. It was hardly friendly at first; both of us have tongues that cut like razors.Looking back; I am honestly glad I went into the Landsmeet when I did. It was well after I had to scrape and struggle to make every alliance promised to the Grey Wardens happen. It gave me an understanding of what it meant to be a commander. Defending Redcliffe had given me a loose understanding of how tactics worked and paired with this I replayed the events of Ostagar in my head. Duncan had tried to get His Majesty to wait for the Wardens from Orlais. Instead of heeding both his advisers  he placed his army  into a valley and himself in the forefront.So when we entered into a challenge to the death, I rightfully should have lost in an enclosed area and only my staff to attack with. He was much more experianced but I won and he joined the Wardens. After that harsh combat drills turned into nightly talks trying to understand eachother. He and Morrigan saw the signs, my willingness to give my life away to save the world. I owe them both a debt that I could never repay not fully.Shortly after the blight I was summoned to Weisshaupt with my second, and it was on the journey there that our feelings of affection became more then just quiet admiration. It never was anything official. I did my best after Amaranthine to keep track of Loghain when he got sent to Orlais, but I lost him once he reached Val Royaleux. However when I arrived at the Conclave, he was the only one who fully knew the depth of my heartache. It had been ten long years since I last saw Cullen when I arrived in Haven at the Divine’s bidding. No one knew I was a Grey Warden, I was Senior Enchanter Trevelyan and he was the Inquisition’s Commander. It reminded me of words, that poured salt on a fresh wound. My mentor had meant to offer advice it had just been poorly timed. “Love is selfish, and Grey Wardens are seldom in a position that allows selfishness, for when the time comes we must with out hesitation or selfishness be able to sacrifice everything to do what must be done.The thing is, it has been ten years since she said that to me. I don’t think I took the advice to heart because I am selfish. I love Cullen, Loghain and Morrigan I will always hold a special place for and Sweet Kieran, he knows the depth of my love and how special he is to me. I can  do what must be done, not because I am selfless but because I am selfish, the people I love, the Men I have taken to bed. I want the best for them.

Spirits and Personhood in Dragon Age

I’ve been sitting on this idea of spirits vs personhood for a while now (i.e. months) and the way Dragon Age: Inquisition portrays the dilemma. I have a lot of frustrations with how spirits are portrayed in this game, so I figured I would take some time to look over the question the game posits: Do spirits qualify as people or not?

Full disclosure: I opted for Cole to remain as a spirit in the game and while I criticize the idea of making Cole human this isn’t a judgment on how other players are playing the game. It’s more a critique of how the writing addressed the dilemma to begin with. Also, this post meanders … a lot. It has kind of become a general post about spirits in Dragon Age. I haven’t read the books, so if anything here is completely misinformed or if there’s info I’m lacking, feel free to let me know.

With that out of the way let’s get into it! At a certain point of the game we have to help Cole decide whether he will be more of a spirit or more of a human. I really wish we’d gotten a chance to just ask Cole what it was he wanted at some point. Granted, at the time he really just wanted to murder a guy and he very well could have turned into a demon afterwards, so I suppose that wasn’t an option.

So instead of the ideal, we’re given two viewpoints on the matter to fill the void: Solas’s and Varric’s.

Solas, our resident expert on spirits, believes it’s important that Cole accept himself for who he is. This way the ideal he aspires to, compassion, won’t be corrupted.

Varric thinks Cole should have a chance at being a person and phrases it to Solas as such: “All right. I get it. You like spirits. But he came into this world to be a person. Let him be one.” It kind of makes it sound like Solas’s appreciation of spirits is akin to a fondness for cats.

More to the point, Varric sees Cole remaining a spirit as robbing him of any chance to be a real person. But why? Why would being a spirit automatically make Cole less of a person?

Dancing in the Fade. I spent a ridiculous amount of time making this, and still not completely convinced it’s done… Why am I like this?

OKAY I have been meaning to do this for MONTHS but hey, there’s no better time than the present so buckle up, here we go! THESE BOOKS ARE A GODSEND. I am ALWAYS on the lookout for writing aids that ACTUALLY HELP. If you’re like me, and occasionally venture out to buy books on, let’s say, showing vs telling - you will always get the same rehearsed speeches on what that means. -summons pretentious writer’s voice- You’ve got to shoooooow what’s happening in the scene, not teeeeeeell~~ BAH! What you NEVER get, however, is how to do it, or how do it better.

THESE BOOKS ARE THE STUFF OF DREAMS

Each of these is so freaking helpful, I can’t even convey. They all follow the same format as the pictures I’ve shown above, so you get one detailed page of descriptions followed by tons of more in-depth, thought provoking concepts. I’ll do my best to lay out the five that I have and if you are interested, hop on over to Amazon and buy these suckers up because they are AMAZING; I have NEVER used a writing resource more than I use these. Negative Trait Thesaurus & Positive Trait Thesaurus -gives you a definition of said negative trait -gives you similar flaws also found in the book -gives you possible causes of WHY the character might have this trait -gives you a list of other behaviors the chara might have -gives you examples of the chara’s thought process -gives associated emotions -gives positive aspects of the trait, as well as negative -gives examples of well known chara’s that have this trait -talks about how the chara might overcome it -gives traits that, when combined with this one, might cause conflict How I use this information: Chara building, or when I get stuck on what I want a character to do. Man, I just can’t decide what they WOULD do. Well, awesome, I have a little guide to help me think through the character’s possible motivations. Also, I get help building a potential backstory because I get a framework of which to think, why is the character this way? Urban Setting Thesaurus & Rural Setting Thesaurus -gives a whole lot of examples of sights, smells, tastes, and sounds -gives examples of textures and sensations (ie at an ‘antique shop’ you may encounter chipped paint, distressed wood, etc) -gives you possible sources of conflict (ie at a ‘hotel’ you might have noisy neighbors) -gives list of people you might expect to find at said location -gives related settings -gives tips on this type of setting -gives a setting description example How I use this information: IMAGERY IMAGERY IMAGERY Emotion Thesaurus (aka MY FAVORITE) -gives a definition of the emotion -gives physical signs and signals (ie chara may look pale, might fidget, etc) -gives internal sensations (aka, blood pounding in the ears, dry throat, adrenaline rush) -gives mental responses (ie fight or flight) -gives cues of acute or long-term impacts of the emotion -gives ‘may escalate to _______’ and directs you to other emotions -gives cues of suppression (ie cues of suppressed rage) -gives writer tips How I use this information: I love this book so hardcore, it’s so helpful with internalizing. It’s great because I get to step outside of that box of using the same five responses to a certain emotion and start really thinking about, what can a character do instead to show that they are feeling this, rather than me using adverbs or his adrenaline pumped fifty gazillion times. These books are all co-written by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi (bless their souls) and if this sounds of interest LOOK INTO IT!! I get such buyer’s regret after buying writing guides but these are legit the best ones I have found and I reference them so, so, so much. Hope this helps anyone out there looking for something life-changing!!
