Bryan Kearney (EOYC 2014) - On Fire (Aly & Fila Remix) vs. Revolution (James Rigby Remix)
Kearney’s EOYC mix was one of my favorites from last year, this mash-up being the highlight of it for me. I’m getting goosebumps just anticipating his next one.
I know I’m months early, but am I the only one extremely excited for the End Of Year Countdown 2015 on AfterHours FM??!

Faure - Pavane
I just had the most frustrating and strangest connection with a musical piece in the past week. It involved my attempt to ID the melody of this beautiful classical piece. You know that feeling when you hear something so amazing that you NEED to know what you’re listening to? Heh, maybe not. It’s pretty bad for me. I even avoid mixes and sets that don’t post tracklists. Well, I screwed myself over.
It started with the Trance Classics 10K Celebration on Afterhours FM on June 29, 2015. After tuning in for a few hours, Scott Bond was on with his exclusive 2 hour Classics set - probably one of the most unique I’ve ever heard with a rejuvenating combination of classic-mixed-modern-music and hidden oldskool gems. Suddenly, the toned changed, the tempo went up, the beat got harder.. and then the melody of Pavane smacked me in the face when I least expected it.
Here’s the trance mix of Faure - Pavane, by Tinnitus Project.
I was stunned, to say the least. Then I got extremely excited - the melody sounded So. Familiar. Where did I first hear this before? I’ve listened to it Multiple times. It sounded like it would be a great gaming sound track - it had to be! I dug around soundtracks from Final Fantasy, Layton, and all of my old gaming music - no luck.
Alright then. Fine. I’ll wait until the end of the event to see the tracklist. Yeaaah nope. He never posted it. It’s not his thing. After Scott Bond put up his set on Soundcloud, I tried to Shazam it and then threw the link around to my friends to ask them whether they’ve heard it... Still to no avail. I wanted to rip the walls off. I do get... interesting urges.
One week later after constantly talking about the track and checking the link on Soundcloud, I found that someone actually found it!! I can finally discover where I heard the melody before. Alas, I was horrified when I found the tracks on Youtube and yet nothing rang the bell. But for some reason, the melody sounded like it would go so well with another tune. I immediately searched for this mashup by The Piano Guys.
I wish I could explain the relief I felt; the weight that came off the shoulders. My mind is blown again by these interesting connections between my past and present music obsessions. I can’t believe the stress I went through for this track, haha, but it was so worth it. Music has always been a great source of connecting with stories. It makes it more personal. How special, that everyone hears and experiences the same track in a different way.
So now, I’m even more mind-fked, learning that Tinnitus Project is actually Tore Vatle Jensen, part of one of the most famous Trance duos today, The Blizzard. I’m done, I’m just done.

Journal Excerpt - Summer Ambition
“Summer has finally started, and as typical of myself, I'm more than ambitious to trample through as many of my summer goals as possible. I have the problem of having way too many goals that I can manage. So much, that I typically end up nowhere and with no progress with them. Truthfully, they're only unmanageable because I waste so much of my time on Facebook and social media, letting jealousy, envy, desire wash over me every time I follow a Facebook friend's story.
This summer, I'm more than ambitious to achieve my summer goals and activities. This summer, I'm going to plan a Realistic schedule. More importantly, my number one goal is to stick with it. This will only work out if I don't tirelessly pack my schedule. I'm going to allow myself plenty of "me-time" where I AM allowed to loaf around on social media, but I'm going to make sure I deserve it. It’s time I learn how to work hard to play hard.....”
“..... This summer will be worth my time. There will be days where my body will refuse to follow the schedule. It’ll try to make excuses, It’ll try to make up for lost time, with no avail.. it’s inevitable. But this time, I'm going to remind myself that this summer is going to be amazing. This is a summer of progress. It's time I pursue the mentality that vacations are not for unproductive time-passing, they're for personal growth. Nevertheless, I can't forget to have fun during the progress and be proud of where I end up in August. Let's do this.”

Mino Safy - When The Sun Smiles (ASOT Mix Cut)
It’s been so long since I last posted! I’ve bumped into NUMEROUS amazing tracks in the past few months, but seriously none more inspiring than this track as soon as I heard it. It’s been awhile since I tuned into an ASOT show, not because I didn’t like it anymore, but because I was never in the mood for the loud vigorous modern sound of trance around school finals and whatnot.
This one seriously stood out to me because of its creativity and uniqueness. How do I even describe that straange atmospheric almost animalistic sound responding back-and-forth with the guitarish melody.. it’s just pure feelings and instant goosebumps. My eyes want to close in slow motion every time I hear it. Funny what music can do to someone. Anyways, will be anticipating more from Mino Safy as it seems like he’s not popular at all.. yet.
This track is now available in the newly released A State Of Trance 2015.. but I’m going to wait and pray it comes out in the original extended... like ASAP.. or I’ll be driven insane.

Yahel - You Inside
This. Is exactly why. I have this... incomprehensible fear of going through old A State Of Trance episodes. It just seems like 90% of the songs Armin chose for his radio show would have me stop in the middle of the mix, look up the song, and repeat the song so many times that I can't even continue listening to the actual show anymore. What the actual hell. It's so frustrating when I find music SO emotional that I can't even express the emotion myself anymore. How can something be so beautiful?
My other unreasonable fear is that there is a limit to how many classic trance tracks I can discover, and if some day I discover them all, I'll feel like I'll have nowhere to go and my life is done. Dramatic, I know. I don't think it'll ever happen because this genre is VAST. I'm also enjoying a lot of the newer and more vigorous trance sounds, so I don't think my journey is ever really going to end. I just need it to be this way forever!
I found this track in ASOT 000. Oh guess what, it's the very first track in this mix. LOL.

LMFAO @ Timothy: "It's just craazy man.. just like the smallest most random thing can become this monster.." .... ;)
I think it's incredible how a single user staring into one of the billion computer screens in the world can affect a worldwide trend. Well okay TheOddOne isn't just any single user. He did it at the perfect time, with just the right amount of popularity, on the perfect game using the perfecting streaming site with the best followers for this to cascade into something this big LOL.
Though it's true more than half of the people in on this don't care about the history of the song nor its producer or its genre, the less-than-half of everyone have probably sparked a curiosity over it. Doubtless to say, I'm relieved that people in this day and age can still appreciate one form of the classic EDM/ trance sound ;)

Port Blue - Sunset Cruiser
"In my opinion, there is a huge lack of imaginative, unconventional music being created by artists today and what little there is, goes widely unappreciated by the masses. 'Port Blue' is my attempt at re-creating the music I want to hear and the emotions I want to feel." - Adam Young

Armin Van Buuren – A State Of Trance, ASOT 694 (Top 20 Of 2014) – 18-12-2014 by Djsesion.com LiveSets on Mixcloud
A.mazing. What a year for trance, I didn't believe it until I actually looked back on this year.
Anyways, I actually really love interactive mixes like these - where the artists get to share their stories, awe and appreciation with the audience. It's almost like the music is more relate-able or special in some way. Though, I also find it interesting that Armin van Buuren doesn't like to share his own personal association with the music he produces because he wants his listeners to create their own association with it. :O

Blank & Jones - California Sunrise
Oh gawd, I just realized that this is the kind of music you usually find on TV in those early 2000 years in the middle of the night when there aren't any shows playing and they just have a bunch of advertisements on the screen.
Nonetheless, ambient music is really the best for these heavily rainy days

Ron Van Den Beuken  Feat. Imogen Heap - Headlock (Club Mix)
Lucky to have caught this one on ASOT 691! I can't believe it's been out for awhile now. (Thank god Armin actually plays some relatively not-completely-new music haha). I'm not usually a fan of EDM remixes of classic songs, but I think this one has a nice atmospheric flow.
I'd forgotten what an Imogen Heap fan I once was :P It's not hard to be emotionally entwined with her music. Wouldn't have found out about her without watching a Doctor Who behind-the-scenes episode where they played 'Bad Body Double.'
(It's always weird when I realize how a bunch of things in my life cascaded into one another)
